ASAP Word Request for “Admendment” to save America

Marina you are a financial genius. Your resourceful thinking to slash the national debt from 48 trillion to 48 billion is way better than the old fashion method of printing more money. It’s even better than when the USA went off the gold standard. It more than rivals using the tax revenue from Social Security to balance the federal budget. You have figured out how solve the national debt problem faster than inflation. Overnight, Awesome!

However I must inform you that you need to be born an American to become President and carry out your plan. But an amendment to the Constitution could change that. So let’s tackle the problem head on by changing the meaning of amendment. That could be done with one really good word lesson.

No doubt you are just the woman for the job. How many times we have seen you start with a word and by the end of the word lesson its meaning is changed entirely.

It’s an easy job for you. I’m so happy about this.

So let’s get started now. We have only a few months left before the election. I’ll start the research for you to speed you on your way.

Hmm. Middle English amenden from Old French amender from Latin émendāre “to correct”. Nothing helps so far. From ex- “out” + menda “fault, blemish”. Nope I’m stuck.

OK trying another approach and having a look at the Constitution. Article Two “…. The President must be a natural born citizen of the United States, be at least 35 years old, and a resident of the United States for 14 years …” dammit, two more qualifications neither of which you meet now.

Forget the whole thing. I’m really bummed.

    Hi dvorak,
The heck with the rules…. Marina is being recruited to be president… the only viable alternative to all the alternatives by popular demand. Check out the news. Marina 4 President

Hooray! The groundswell of Marinacrats is sure to get a majority of the votes in November.

We can get used to word lessons in pants suits if it will save the country.

And what to do about Article Two? Has anyone ran WhiteSmoke on the Constitution yet?

omg! this explains why Stephen Hawking uses the word thousand million instead of billion. He knew the billion was different for Europe and America. Thanks for this explanation HotForWords :)

    Billion=Milliard in german (Milliarde)

tedt replied on July 6th, 2008 1:32 am:

 In german there come the billion after the milliard, million-milliard-billion….

  6. danvonbose on July 5th, 2008 2:58 pm

One million = One thousand thousand
One billion (US) = One thousand million
One trillion = One thousand billion
One quadrillion = One thousand trillion
and so on by the Latin prefixes
    quintillion
    sextillion
    septillion
    octillion
    nonillion
    decillion
    unidecillion
    duodecillion
We’ve got some large numbers here, some not recognized by the spell checker!!

I like your hair in this one too, and you’re a bit shy which is cute…

    Wait, you forgot milliard.

    - million
    - milliard
    - billion
    - billiard

I know the French and the British use this as well where a milliard = 1000 million.

BTW, to make it even more confusing, french Quebec use the European form and the rest of Canada uses the U.S. form.

As far as I am able to tell, the original billion (a million million) is as good as archaic now in Britain.
