You still didn’t explain why it was Awful that began being associated with “bad things” and not Awesome. I bet there’s a reason for that. Maybe the fact alone that ‘awful’ could be used as an intensifier acccounts for that? Or people’s tendency to intensify only negative aspects of life at that time?

What I’m dying for is meeting you Marina in real life wondering how the hell I could’ve missed such a cuttie when visiting ННГУ in my old days in Нижний Новгород. I probably know some of you friends from there. Must investigate… - Love
So, is there a chance that the short form of the Russian name Lubov’ which is Luba actually comes from Old German and wasn’t developed so by the Russians themseleves? Or it is just a coincidence? - GTW Game XI
Oh, another request if the last one is too hard/boring. The word is douche
As a Russian you probably wondered already about its relation to the Russian word душ, which is pronounced in the same way but means ’shower’ so its semantic similarity to the English cognate is very high too. But what served as the original source: that would be interesting to know. - GTW Game XI
Marina, I have a word request. Actually a morpheme request: the prefix RE- as in rewrite, redo, etc. Is it a gramaticalized form of the preposition OVER? If so, what is the preceding form, a noun maybe? How far ago can you trace it and prove relation to Modern Russian forms, such as CHEREZ, PERE- (через, пере-) if there is any. I think everyone will be interested in how what we think of grammar developes from words and how even such distant languages as English and Russian have so much in common even on the grammatical level. - GTW Game XI
