Cats and Dogs is just an old-school exaggeration, what they really mean is ‘raining Rats and Frogs’ – this actually happens. Honestly!

  4. No… No, cats and dogs.. it means literally, raining cats and dogs from the sky. Because.. that’s how I always pictured it. Because, I mean, how HARD would it have to be raining for it to rain down cats and dogs? I mean, like, REALLY hard, right?

    Don’t mess with my heritage.

  5. Actually, I heard that mice were the predominant occupants of thatch. And whose job is it to chase them out of the house? You guessed it. So when it rained so hard that the roof became soaked through to the inside and the mice had to abandon ship, the cats and dogs went to work on them, causing quite a commotion, no doubt. But in order to exaggerate such an event to the proper respectability level, tall-tale tellers had to stretch it out to include the larger animals as well so as not to be outdone by all those who merely saw mice running out of their ceilings.
