    Marina is definitely what we
    mongo-types call a “spinner”!
    lostforwords - good call!

    Marina,

This is one is really one of my favorites because you’re super cute in it, and because it’s fun to see how you dance–very fun. The way you did this video gets you out of the static head and shoulders thing also–you pop up into the frame from the bottom, and we get to see you almost from head to foot. Have you ever thought about doing more in the style of this one? (Maybe you have, I just haven’t watched all your videos, just picked some at random). Anyway, it’s great to see you in motion.

An idea: what about hotforwords goes on location in “Liberty City”? You could wear different outfits according to the season–summer, spring, fall, winter (more fun right there)–and you could shoot in the day or at the night at interesting locations. This would take-up even more time–just what you need.

This one isn’t working anymore!

I’ve made up my new years resolution a tad late (5 months) :P However, my resolution is to get myself fit again.

So far, I have lost 10 kilos in a matter of 2 weeks. All because of “exercising and eating right”. Which is not easy for me as i hate most fruit and salads.Speaking of which…time for my workout…looking forward to it

I always used to “give up smoking” as my New Year’s resolution and I would invariably fail. Then one year my New Year’s Resolution was to give up making New Year’s Resolutions. This is one resolution I have successfully kept for many many years and I also gave up smoking when I decided to stop one summer - perhaps it is the time of year that makes them so hard to keep?

    x for teacher x

I want to be open to more ideas about religion, sexuality, and generally how people are. I was raised that there is a certain way and all other ways are wrong, but I’m learning more and more about other ways of living! It’s so interesting!!
MURRON IS AWESOME (name similar to Marina)

take one day off from work a month to go visit an old friend and make it their special day. That would be 12 different old or long lost friends over a year. I would of course plan ahead of time that I was visiting so I could come visit on a day when they have the time.

I like helping people that don’t otherwise get the opportunity to be helped because of disease, war, or poverty. I’ve decided to try to help significantly, not just donating my $10 to whatever charity, so my friend and I have bought the domain for a website to help me raise and donate a million dollars to a charitable organization that will hopefully improve quality of life significantly for someone somewhere. The site is:

    http://www.HelpUsDonateAMillion.com

We’re about to start building the site now and we think we’re going to copy an older website idea: we’re going to sell each pixel as advertising space @ 50 cents / pixel. And old idea but some new twists, like we’re not keeping the money and we’ll be using newer technology so the site will be better than the original idea.

That’s my new years resolution. get this project on the road. I love your you tube lessons HotForWords. They are wonderful. Thanks for starting and keeping with it.

If anyone’s interested in helping / advertising with the donate a million plan, please email ads@helpusdonateamillion.com

Thanks again HotForWords, for all the effort you put into your work. I think of you as a great role model for my little nieces because you are proof that women can be both pretty and intelligent.

To write, illustrate, and publish at least 3 chapbooks. (I just finished writing and illustrating one … http://www.geocities.com/stanlobster/symmny.html … which I’ll be self-publishing later in the year.)

But that leads to a suggestion for a word you could investigate … chapbook!

    Thank you for your lessons!

All these resolutions are kinda spooky. And a few are downright bizarre. Mine was rather simple. This year I resolve to make no resolution I can’t keep. Wow. That was easy.

  29. kevinsanangelo on January 6th, 2008 3:36 pm

    I have resolved to enjoy life more by;

Continuing to exercise 3 times a week minimum.

Get out of the house more.

Work on my running stamina so I can enter the Air Force Marathon next September and finish without walking.

Last year I lost 31 pounds and developed good healthy eating and workout habits. This year I’d like to lose another 30 pounds before my 44th birthday in November.

I’m going to do my part to contribute to making this world a better place for every living being - now and in the future. I want my future greatgrandchildren to still be able to live in a beautiful world.

And, on a sidenote, being Dutch, I still want to know the origin of the expression “Double Dutch”.

I would like to start learning a new language. I love English but want to broaden my horizons a little bit.
I think it would be great if Marina could apply some of her exemplarary linguistics skills to teach us cultural(y) deficient ones in another way. I have a feeling that she might be an expert in more than philology. Maybe another “hotfor…” website, youtube, or Itunes podcast. You are an excellent teacher because you are sweet, thorough, and compassionate.

    Keep up the good work!

  39. pile_driver69 on January 5th, 2008 6:11 pm

Resolutions? As someone who strives for continual improvement, New Year’s resolutions are a non-event for me. Besides, what is the point of solving a problem again, anyway, right?

Ha! Ha! Ha!!! resolution –> resolve –> re-solve

Isn’t that kind of like re-running a marathon?

(Yes, English is a messed-up language)

I am so confused… Wait a second, no I’m not!

Sidedish replied on January 5th, 2008 11:37 pm:

My resolution is to be nicer to the people I love.

Early last year, I picked up the habit of making fun of my friends and family in a playful, kind of sarcastic way. The problem is that I started to adopt the things I was saying playfully into my every day vocabulary and it lost a lot of it’s playful tone to the point. Now I just seem like a jerk. :(

Anyway, Happy New Year! Thanks for all the videos. :D

  70. jwlnler on January 3rd, 2008 8:18 pm

Although I think keithanthony made some good points, I think this is why people traditionally made New Year’s Resolutions. Originally, Christmas (short for “Christ Mass”) was a time for reflecting on who Christ is, the 4 Gospels, etc… Having devoted extra time to that during Christmas, it made sense for people to make New Year’s Resolutions, seeing as they’d just spent time (ideally) reflecting on the basis of their Christian faith.

Of course, few people do that anymore. Personally, I simply made New Year’s Resolutions in line with things i’ve been working on on a daily basis: spending more time reading the Bible, volunteering at my local hospital, and such.

But hey for some people, NYR’s give people a chance to focus on what matters to them. But yes, for anything to work, you’ve got to take them one step at a time!

  99. veritanuda on January 2nd, 2008 4:12 am

Well I have a few very specific ones this year. Partly because it is my hope (ambition?) to go to Russia come May. So one of the tasks I have set myself is to learn to read Russian at least as well as I can speak it. And hopefully I’ll get to read (and understand) some poetry by Blok, Bely and Pushkin.

Along the way I want to start swimming again too. It has been far too many years since I have really concentrated on it and it has affected my health and mentality in more ways I care to mention.

I aim to be less distracted this year and begin to sort out the various threads of my life so they all complete rather than only partially.

And finally, I resolve to let my friends know how much they mean to me both now and always whenever I can.

Certainly enough to be going on with but well.. what is life if it is not full of dreams and ambition? On that dreamy note.. talking to you on the phone would be awesome

So what are you resolved to do this year Marina?

  100. pongman on January 2nd, 2008 3:57 am

I plan to read a book a week. Eat more fruits and vegetables and stay away from fast foods and exercise more.

    1. Continue my diet from last years resolution. I went from 225-160lbs, but the holidays kinda stopped my diet for the duration. Now I want to go from 160-145 this year!

    2. Try to work out, but I am too lazy. This one won’t prolly ever get started.

    3. Become a YouTube Superstar like Hotforwords

    4. Hopefully meet a girl and find love.

    What are yours, Ms. Hotforwords?

keithanthony replied on January 2nd, 2008 3:22 am:

225-160lbs that’ awesome and shows a can do attitude and I feel everybody here should join me in congratulating you for your achievement and also leave you messages of further support!

If you really want to work out? Then in the words of a very successful Scottish friend of mine just D’it! Don’t say what you believe you are, say what you aspire to be!

Turn it on its head by using the NLP technique of saying to yourself in the present tense, “I enjoy working out regularly, toning, looking after my body to maintain my target weight of 145, thus becoming more attractive to
    H  tForWords Marina!”

My resolution is simply but difficult. I am going to try not to fall in love with you this year. This is very hard to do because you are such a beautiful person in every sense of the word. You are amazing and you are right, smart is sexy and you are both, so that makes you Super Sexy!!

Have a great year Marina and thank you for the Xmas and New Years cards.

  108. cloaknbadger on January 1st, 2008 9:50 pm

Last year I made a bunch of involved resolutions and only managed to stick with a couple, which caused me to feel poorly. So this year I resolve to eat at least one slice of chocolate cake. Then I will celebrate the attainment of my resolution with a second slice.

I love your enthusiasm! With a couple more lessons you’ll be able to call yourself “hotfordancing”.

  109. crazyk on January 1st, 2008 9:46 pm

My New Year resolutions are to keep going to the gym atleast an hour a day, Im also going to quit drinking, and smoking cigarettes. But my biggest resolution is to start my music career now, to build my studio and get it going.
I know staying with resolutions are hard, but thats because people need to make realistic goals, you have to set small goals to accomplish, which lead to that bigger goal in the end. Just droppin some advice for the people who are seeking it. Well thank you and hope everybody has a good year in 2008!

    Peace!

Hi, it’s me RioB24. My New Year’s Resolution is to quit drinking coffee (gets me shaky) and drinking liquor. I have to smoke when Im drinking coffee or liquor, so if I could quit drinking these drugs, I know I could stop smoking cigarettes. But I know its all mind over matter.

Good data on resolutions. I want my news website newsconomy.com to get up to 10,000 registered users this year. It has 24 registered users so far! Thanks to you video, I’m breaking it down some tonight on how to go about doing that. I also want to get completely out of debt.

  114. BillyB on January 1st, 2008 8:59 pm

    wow
I resolve to show my wife more love & spend more time with her in “08″. Now 2 lessons in one day + homework, you’re giving my first test. If I skip class one day do I need a note? If so I hope to be naughtyfied when a new lesson is prepared, so I can catch up with your “A” students.

  115. keithanthony on January 1st, 2008 8:52 pm

New years resolutions are absolutely the worst plan since for things to get better you simply have to change, if you need to change you have need of change NOW!

It is 02nd of January so it is already too late for new year resolution however by making a decision to make a new year resolution, you are making an advanced plan for failure! You are deciding for TODAY that “I am not capable!”

When your appointed day arrives it will again, and always will be TODAY, which is always with us since the future never arrives, and the past is always lost to regret!

When I was in the aftermath of a Coma I did not say to myself when I was told I was now paralysed, that I would wait until new years day or the end of the month to show them they were wrong! I didn’t even start working on making my change TODAY!

I started working on it “IMMEDIATELY” with what I thought and believed and held to be true in my heart! I fixed my mind on a can do regime, and shut out any thoughts I had of failure while at the time I was not only paralysed, I had everybody around me in the hospital, well meaning people telling me to QUIT trying! I went from Paralysed to walking out after three months because I made a decision and focused on that decision in little bite sized pieces! When I started I had a frustrating nil result, after all I was paralysed! However I was not swayed and positive self talk instead of allowing myself to become demoralised was just a small step that I took each day!

I took me less effort to be positive than it did to be negative since it caused me no additional distress and eventually one day the sudden twitch of my left big toe signalled the fruits of my efforts that returned me to my feet!

If I can overcome not only a COMA, AMNESIA so bad I didn’t know what people were, and PARALYSIS, by making a decision right now to make a change then so can you, simply by deciding what it is that you genuinely want!

Then write it down where you can see it, believe it, and share this idea with friends and family so that they can give you encouragement and support! I had no support, nothing, Nada, Zip, Nil! Imagine how much easier it will be for you with support!

Always remember nobody fails an attempt they QUIT, so my advice is don’t quit! You may have set backs but they don’t matter if you stay on the road, and keep going always remember he who never made a mistake never made anything! Similarly he/She who Quit never finished anything!

I wish you not luck but your own resolve, the human spirit for I have been privileged to witness the awesome power of it!
