There seem to be some problems with this answer. Czekoslovakia in 1840? For one you could refer to the terrotory but Slovakia was in Hungary and the czechs were a part of Austria, and they certainly werent the same culturally, because it was the time of nationalism so they tried to be as different as they could be. Also the polish uprising was in 1846 and the Hungarian revolution (in which the slovaks supported us) was 1848-49 and we were fighting the imperial armies consisting of czechs as well, so there wasnt too much time for celebration or for them to bond.

Hi Marina!

Could you do an origin for me? The lovely божья коровка has two names in english. The british ladybird and the american ladybug. Why the difference? Is there an etymological reason?

WOW, thats like a really new meaning for this word then. I’m really amazed at how fast words are born and how fast they die out.
Let me just sum it up, cause I dont want to get it wrong.

It means bringing back ppl from someone’s past and use them in negative campiagns against him/her, am I right?

If we’re talking politics, or political etymologies to be exact I’d like to request the verb: “to swiftboat”. My reason? I dont know whatit means . I recently saw the funniest vid ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68NEc8EvV2Q ) and it has this word in it. It probably has an interesting origin to it as well.

I vaguely remember hearing about the Send Out Succor origin, but that doesnt mean its the real origin. Still I’ii pick that cause its sounds nice.
