I would like to know the origin of the word “hooray” as in “hooray for beer” for example….. but I am especially curious why it is sometimes preceded by “hip-hip” as in “hip-hip hooray!” What do you think….. is it worth investigating?

    Your student, Charlie.

I would like to request the work “MUG”
Why does this word have at least three meanings? and are they related?

    1) Someone’s face can be called a “mug” (mug shot) or he has an ugly mug.
    2) A kind of cup: “mug” of coffee
    3) To rob someone (attack with intent to steal for a person): Like the old man was “mugged” on the street for his watch.

    Thanks,
    DW

    Bone to pick with you
Feel the wind, and wind the spring [why two pronunciations?]
Boot, loot, shoot….foot [pronounced fut] why don’t boot and foot rhyme?
Colder than a witch’s tit [um, why are those particularly cold?]
