Hmmm
Well Marina,
there is also another saying or meaning to Dope as well.
Although it is along the same lines as the dipping sauce.
many people I know refer to Flux and or a grease as pipe dope.
Its used to Solder joints in copper pipes as well as put together older iron Pipes in Barns etc.

just some food for thought
