Dear rijk. Super Wow! I count myself as one who goes the extra mile for do something, and you have been a great help for me. Because of my misspelling of the Dutch word onbeshchoft, I just did the best I could to guess at it’s meaning. Wow to think that I was such a bad boy in my grandmas’ eyes, ….ouch! Oh well, she is fine in Heaven right now, and I grew up quite a bit straighter since then. Hey, you have helped quite a bit, rijk, because now when someone goggles umbellskuff, they will get the correct answer, HERE! Your intuition on how to spell the word correctly, or your general knowledge has corrected this matter. The only other Dutch word that comes to mind is Oliebollen, the donut with raisins and powdered sugar. My grandma told me I was Dutch, I told her no, I’m an American, born and raised here, don’t know how to speak Dutch, and it took me sooooooo long to figure out the story of the little boy who stopped the dike from leaking water into Holland to save his country. Same story as the folks that should have known better that live in New Orleans. Live below sea level and EXPECT trouble. Thanks again and best wishes to you rijk!!! P.S. That botaletter tastes great. I just got it, I pronounced it to myself with an English pronunciation, i should have use the Dutch. The “boataletter” put me on the right track. The word in Dutch is onbeschoft.
And that does mean: rude, offensive, insolent, indecent, impertinent, impolite, ill-mannered, discourteous, oafish, loutish, arrogant, presumptuous, impudent, overbearing, shameless

Looks like we found a strange word in Umbel. I never heard of it before. Did you?.

That’s ok, i need word to correct me too, and i think i have used bee instead of be on this site already.

I have tried to dig a bit deeper, but Umbell doesn’t produce any hits. Umbel does, but not in Dutch. What i can find is that in English the translation to Dutch would mean something like Umbella is the way in witch certain flowers grow. All the flower-stalks erect from one point. The flowers that are mentioned are: Calochortus macrocarpus, Mariposa tulip
It also says Cascade Mountains from the south of British Columbia to Northern-California

My 50 cents would be your grandma called you a flower.

Maybe its time to get our favourite tracker-dog and let here hound this one down .
Are you gone give here the scent so she can work here way down to the scent-trail?

Ps “boataletter” in Dutch is boterletter, can’t find a translation as a whole, but boter= butter
And Letter=type. Its for “Sinterklaas” and most of the times its layout is an S.

Hi rijk! Hmm… I wanted to check my word “umbellskuff,” but I couldn’t find it in the Dutch to English translator on line. Well anyway, here is the story, when I was about eight years or so, I remember my grandma saying that I acted unbellskuff, but never knew what it meant. I am 56 years old now and about ten years ago I was in an airport in Amsterdam and asked a Dutch speaking person that could also speak English, what does that word mean? He said that it basically means not well behaved, a little on the wild side, not as disciplined as my grandmother wanted. I forgot why she said it, maybe because I wanted another slice of that tasty homemade, “boataletter.” Anyway, it is wrong to ask for more than one pastry at a time, because of the thrift of some Dutch folks. Sorry about my incorrect spelling on these Dutch words. Hope that I’ve been some help to you.

In Dutch, Double Dutch also has a different meaning

‘Double Dutch’ wil zeggen dat het meisje de pil slikt en bij het neuken ook nog een condoom wordt gebruikt.
