Duh!
As you were gussing, so am I. The American west seems to be the leader in taking words from other cultures and twisting them to mean something else. My guess would be “Duh” is a WWII adaptation of either the German or Russian word for “Yes.” Qui? The French word for “Ich würde liebend gerne Ihr Kind.”

Oh, and I forgot a more modern variation:

As you indicated in the video, “Boob” or “Booby” meaning a stupid person was derived from the Spanish word “Bobo.” (A bit of additional information: Bobo was derived from the Latin “Bulbas” meaning stammering. The ancient Romans considered stammering to be a sign of stupidity. This type of word is called “echoic,” kind of onomatopeic, reflecting the repetitive stammer. “Bal-bal-bal-bus” says Clau-clau-claudius.

The OED notes that the word booby to mean dunce appears as early as 1599. (#1)

Hence, since this type of trap is generally very simplistic and meant to catch someone not paying full attention to detail ….. it became known as a “Booby-Trap/”

OK peeps, I think my intent was misunderstood here. Or, what is more likely is that I misunderstood the intent of the site. Was I credulous to think a 27 yr old blond bombshell who could sell encyclopedias to a blind man ….. well forget how hot I think teacher is. The point is I didn’t get why the piece deserved special merit. It was never my intent to dis the child. I was trying to find out why teach thought it was special. I mean …. like …. that’s how we ate before we evolved. Isn’t that what sets us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom? The use and mastery of tools? Except, I still haven’t mastered nailing Jello to a tree. But to be totally honest…. if I were him, I’d eat with my toes if I thought teach would like it. Hell, I’d eat my toes…………
