    Well – ‘La dolce vita’ is italian and means in translation. ‘the sweet life’

  5. ddull2000 says:

    La Dolce Vita sounds to me like the sweet life. There is a Mexican (Spanish?) dessert or flavor called dulce de leche, which is sweet milk. It usually refers to rice or pudding, but is also a popular ice cream flavor.

    In Costa Rica there is a popular phrase, La Pura Vida, which I believe means the good life.

    I like the Random Lesson feature, good for random review. The website always brings a little more sweetness to my sometimes sour life. So my responsibility would be to bring a little bit of sour to the website.
    BTW, love to see your live interaction with people, you put people at ease & they like your attention.

    The sweet life —–> often said to young girls/babys, also unborn life.

    Scusi cara mia, I have to play some games and will be back later for some more lesson, don´t get :mad: , please.

    It refers to the italian way of life, enjoying the good life, good food, without worrying. This phrase entered the language following the success of the 1960 film La Dolce Vita. This was written and directed by Federico Fellini and starred Marcello Mastroianni, Anita Ekberg and Anouk Aimée

    Was it love to hear the playpen with being proclaimed the destroyer and testing the playpen manufacture specifications it also came out “la dolce vita” except for a moment before “cleartype?” The playpen manufacure searched his records and they still have it in a backroom probably identifiable 925,000 is a consideration with cleartype trademarks. It is her word that brought coloration before time with engineers. If relevent a blown kiss is on which side of the monitor is a super? Pepporoni, where is her bottle?

  28. cesdavis says:

    Those are most of the sounds of Daily City, la dolce vita means with all those female cousins being changed and Marina’s “tit and title” after the playpen was repaired and guessing what warm milk felt like. The last we seen of her was palying in the lawn sprinkler, la dolce vita meant don’t turn off the sprinkler off if it was not a squirt from a the baby bottle nipple. Me and Jen bit the end of the nipple right off. Even after she vanished with all the enduendo’s how did the sound paparazzi seems to become an timed event to the day still frightened of the abduction. I was still lifting my female cousins in the air as long as they wanted too. Hungry, grrr, herger, grrrr, watch out there goes the lawn mower by the! save us! After all the those love affiars of being squirted with milk I never knew where the bottle was then with a look is all my cousin needed to know what they wanted, my turn or was it truth? Everything said still comes out a bottle except for Marina’s la dolce vita she is in the backyard in a towel when the world never had color? :???:

  56. Charles says:

    Hi Marina,

    • Captain Jack says:

      I thought she said she was working on that? She said she was working on many things. Hummm. I think she is taking on too many projects and not letting us help her out.

      Hey guys lets form a group of us that help Marina get projects done for her. You know like a teachers assistant(s). Btw I haven’t heard a thing from Jay. What the hell is he up to? Oh thats right training for the Olympics. Ok, so anyways I vote that we form a group and work on helping Marina do some of the leg work so she can focus on other projects. We have many talents and networks that can help the HFW school. We can gather information and propose it to Marina and if she says ‘Go’ then we make it happen. Marina will still maintain full control of the products and other things. What do you say guys? You think we could put our skills to good use and help HFW grow a bit more?

      • GREG says:

        I help by logging on to keep her numbers up. She needs to give Home work that is a little more engaging. A real ball buster. First correct answer in her post wins a ?? some stupid trinket or mention in a video.

        She could go to a University’s web site and get some ideas for questions. [like] : Give Me the tech/name for the center of an Atom and its root of origin. Sure You could Google it, but that would take time. There you go……Teach.

      • Captain Jack says:

        RR would you think the more new people that log on return make more sense in keeping the numbers up. Thats even if she is using them. I don’t know what her goals are so logging in might not be what she is looking for. Maybe new accounts might mean more to her. You don’t know.

        That sound like a great idea. If we had the word list that she is working on we could make question related to the current theme of the word. Or some drudgery work that kills much of her time.

        Microsoft was not built solely with one person.

  75. its not a word but what is the origin to the phrase to “take it with a pinch of salt”

  76. reiel says:

    Hi, HotforWords. ^_^ I’ve always wanted to know the origins of the word performance, but I’ve been stuck on square one for a lonng time. Perhaps you could look into this for me? It’d be appreciated!

  77. maheez says:

    also could we find the origin of the phrase “faux pas”? thanks, yay.

  78. maheez says:

    La dolce vita

    Meaning: The good life, full of pleasure and indulgence.

    Origin: La dolce vitaThis phrase entered the language following the success of the 1960 film La Dolce Vita. This was written and directed by Federico Fellini and starred Marcello Mastroianni, Anita Ekberg and Anouk Aimée.La dolce vita translates from the Italian as ‘the sweet life’ and this was used as one of the advertising taglines for the film. Of course, this phrase would have been commonplace in Italian-speaking countries prior to 1960 but only became part of English at that date.

  79. animalntaz says:

    :smile: Hi Marina, I have a word request : FETISH
    This may sound silly, but when I first heard this word so many years ago, it gave me the impression it meant ‘interest in feet’, because of its partial spelling. And since I have a bit of a foot fetish, I guess it would have been easy for me to think that.

  80. frederic2801 says:

    Oh yeah,
    La Dolce Vita means “the good/sweet life”
    If you know the movies from director/actor Roberto Benigni its easy

  81. frederic2801 says:

    Can you help me out with this one?

    Sincerely

  87. Hello HotForWords – Marina. I have a word request for you; I would to know the origin of Rendez Vous. I hope you can share the origin with us as I would very much like to know ! Hope you’re well, love, your new subscriber, LetsGoAndHaveSomeFun.

  88. Elementary, my dear Marina.
    La Dolce Vita is an italian phrase. It’s direct english translation is “The Sweet Life”. Maybe now they’ll change the show to “Le Dolce Vita of Zack and Cody”
    Interesting tidbit: Le Dolce Vita was a 1960 film directed by Federico Fellini and starring Marcello Mastroianni.
    It breaks my heart that you haven’t been naming teachers pets in your past 2 videos… if you’re still doing it, could I be the next teacher’s pet?
    Thanks

    • Capman911 says:

      Oh yea and by the way she didn’t do a teachers pet in this video did she. :sad:

      • Bob says:

        Because it’s an Ooooold video. No High def. version either.

      • Captain Jack says:

        Ok lets see if I figured this out. Marina makes dozens of these video in like a week. Then she post them like every other day or so for months on end. This leaves her months without having to do much other that a few random comments or so every day on her blog. Am I getting close guys? Which is kind of cool operation, making it easier to maintain and not to interfere with her daily life.
        She never leaves any comment about her personally, only directly relating to the lesson at hand or a complaint. She is a very business orientated with her blog. Its almost like this whole blog is a facade for some other kind of agenda. I’m still waiting to get a glimpse of the little green man behind the curtain.

  95. micheldiego says:

    The Paparazzo game: Where does the Paparazzo name come from?
    Option 1) Fellini choose this name because of the similarity with “papataceo” a mosquito as noise and painfull as a paparazzi on his vespa.
    Option 2) The co-author Ennio Flaiano found interesting a character named Papparazzo in the book George Gissing book “By the ionian see”. It was a friendly hotel-keeper
    Option 3) The script writer was from the italian Abbruzzo region in the local dialect paparazzo is a clam. The script writter made the conection between the sound of the word, the clap of the camera, and the clap of the opening/closing clam.

    • Capman911 says:

      Lets see now hummmmm. I don’t know———–I guess I will go with number 0. :lol: :lol:

    • Captain Jack says:

      Im going to go with Option # 1 because because I really really hate mosquitoes.

      • micheldiego says:

        If you like this one, certain sources have some more details. Fellini supposedly met a guy nicknamed Papataceo. It was at school the guy was very busy coming, going, beeing everywhere, so the school friends nicknamed him papataceo, an annoying mosquito. When Fellini thought about the papparazi name, he remembered the figure of his young years collegue, buzzing arround.

      • Capman911 says:

        I was in a tool store the other day and was talking about the coke video that someone put in their comments about farmers using coke for insecticide. The clerk told me if you sprayed Listeren around your doors or on you arms it will repell mosquitoes better that Off. I haven’t tried it but it might be good for the mosquitoes breath :lol: :lol:

      • micheldiego says:

        It’s funny you mentioned again the coke add, I was just thinking about this add after reading something from cap jack. Cap mentioned the fact that intelectuals have almost no children when low IQ people tend to have lots. This observation has been used in a comedy called “idiocracy”, where in 2400 or something like this everybody is retarded, acording to a kind of selection of the dumbest. Well the bigest problem they have is that crops are dying, and it’s because they don’t use water anymore, just 7-up or gatorade to drink but also to “water” the crops.
        Happily for now it’s OK probably because there is another “force” working in oposite direction: the Darwin award effect. You probably know the book the site or the movie, where guys eliminate themself in a self destructive stupid way.

      • Capman911 says:

        I wish she would put that towel up for auction :twisted:

      • GREG says:

        Right Diego , Its the Dem-ing down of America :lol:

      • Captain Jack says:

        “I haven’t tried it but it might be good for the mosquitoes breath :lol: :lol:
        Very funny Capman.

        Mich, Yea the Darwin Awards. I have a good friend that always sends me updates on this. Is so funny. I call it population control. About the comedy “idiocracy”. I should look that one up. I might enjoy that one.!

        Yea Capman, If Marina put that up for auction she would be able to fund her apartment for a month, maybe even a year.

      • geronimo says:

        Not just population control but cleaning out the gene pool. I have question about that movie, if everyone is so stupid in the year 2400, that they don’t even use water, who’s making the soft drinks? What are the soft drinks made of?

      • micheldiego says:

        Geronimo, it’s a comedy, not really logical. Apparently some factory going on by themself.
        Here the intro to the movie:
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upyewL0oaWA&feature=related
        The softdrink is called “Brawndo” look at the only “smart” guy trying to convince the others to water with water instead of “Brawndo”:

    • Warren says:

      Papa = father
      Razz = heckle
      Paparazzi = Photographer?

      • micheldiego says:

        You have to think in italian,for example:
        papa = pope
        razzo = rocket
        paparazzo = the fast car of the pope = papamobile, a fast and small vehicle where you can be photographed = a photographer vespa = a paparazzi

  96. Capman911 says:

    Marina is that a cast on your right hand and arm or just a towel :?:
