A Bridge is the raised platform from which the captain controls the ship. Originally (and still) meaning a structure carrying a road, etc., over a gap, ravine, river, etc., its current nautical use arose when steamships with paddle-wheels replaced sailing ships, in which the captain had commanded from the quarterdeck. Now, the platform bridging the gap between the two paddle-wheels gave a better all-around view; and this ‘bridge’ was retained when the propeller replaced them. In modern small sailing cruisers, the ‘bridge-deck’ is the transverse structure at the forward end of the cockpit forming the top of the cabin steps and often housing the engine.
From the Old Teutonic via Old Engish ‘brycg’. First attested in its nautical use in 1843.

Yea but I don’t think it would have been appropriate for the show. Mentioning to this website yes, but not the radio show. I didn’t bring up the word Poop Deck. Just lots of talk about the ‘Head’ from a few request by HFW people.

Poop, The raised aftermost deck of a ship; (of the sea) to break over the stern of a vessel, which then pooped. Poop lanterns are a flagship’s stern lights; the poop royal was a short deck above the ‘after end’ of the poop in French and Spanish warships of the sailing navies, known to British shipwrights as the topgallant poop.
From Middle English and Old French ‘pupe’ ( in modern French ‘poupe’ ) and hence from the Latin ‘puppis’, stern.
The colloquial [of or relating to conversation] (originally US) ‘pooped’, meaning exhausted, may be derived from the nautical expression, although the OED declares its ‘origin unknown’ [note: I don't have an OED, so I'm not sure on this].
