Later found out that was false. If I had to do it all over again I would have joined the Coast Guard. I once considered the Coast Guard at 17 when I was looking into going into the military to get away from home. they seemed to be the most nonviolent of the branches of the service. One girl I worked at the Pantheon with in 1977 suggested the Air Force since it was more techncal than the Army where I ended up. but the idea of working around those nukes made me squeamish! Seemed creepy to me then. They have a Coast Guard station about a mile or two from my home.
