i have a very good word request for you marina.
“chode”
i saw someone post a comment containing the word on youtube and i seem to remember hearing it somewhere before as well.
will you educate me please?
How did the Japanese come up with the greeting kon nichi wa? I know what it means, but who came up with it, when, why and what did it originally mean?
By the way, Homework: I am not voting either way because if I do, it won’t matter. Sorry folks. Believe me, it’s so dumb I wouldn’t touch one of those things and I wouldn’t even walk into one booth.
Love ya guys and I hope to see Bush out of the presidency soon,
Shawn Norris
Both good candidates. Nothing so bad about them that if they were facing different opponents who had scandals that Obama and McCain would shine above them. I think that John has had more bumblings though. I also believe that John would likely be worse in the foreign policy department.
Slap me down about it but, I was wishing that Hillary was still in the running. Just my vote. When are you running for president?
Perhaps your most educational investigation ever, Marina. Kudos, for that. As a middle-of-the-road voter, I am concerned about certain issues (in order of importance): National Defense (McCain wins), the Economy (McCain again), Energy (McCain and BO are neck & neck), Childhood education (not a word from either candidate), Health Care (hardly a word from either candidate), and Taxes (McCain). Adding them up, it’s McCain, so far.
Serving up double entendre? Perhaps the roasting will commence with the next admin. The dubayou duck is not the only fowl that can be hunted. His once brazen “attack geese” are sulking in the reeds and, by rights, should be stuck on a spit.
Well, Marina
Sorry for the late comment, But McCaine is by far the better Candidate, as well a the lesser of the two evils. I belive that there are a lot more better, and well qualified individuals out there. But this is what were stuck with.
Though Obama did say. If we tuned up the motor, and aired up the tires in our vehicles. It would benefit our fuel prices.
Then shure enough, I aired up my tires 2 weeks ago, and the fuel prices went down 10 cents a gallon at the Station! WOW
Now,that darn near had me submit to “Dirnking the Koolaid”, and being Assimilated into the Collective of the Obamanation.
Went to my first Koolaids Anonymous Meeting yesterday. Best thing I’ve ever done.
I know that Russia used to be a 1 party country, but you make it sound like this is a 2 party country.
Well itsnot. There are other choices other than the 2 u mention.
You ever think of majoring in poli sci?
I know some really hot poli sci majors. I know u would fit right in.
I vote for my hero, Ralph Nader.
I bet u even think we live in a democracy here in the good ole USA?
Don’t fall for all the propoganda you hear here in the USA.
I step off my soap box now and give it to you Marina.
Here’s a request, and I promise I’m not being perverted. I commonly hear the word: anal. But do people mean “anile”? You see, in America, when someone says “He/she is anal”, I think they actually mean, anile, not anal, as in near the anus. Can you clear this up? thanks!
Ahhh yes… that reminds me. I would like to know the origin of the word JINX, as in when you when you jinx someone or call it. It’s just such an unusal spelling word, I was just wondering how it came to be?
I’m honestly not sure if I am voting at all… If I do vote it will be for McCain though. Normally I always vote Democrat, but… I just don’t trust Obama.
TA’s are not just abettors and sycophants .
No woman is interested in a subservient male.
But none of my fantasies involve sexual activities…anymore
Joking aside She would be a good Mentor. ..Mentora?
I can think of one possibility for ‘unlucky 13′, but I don’t know if it’s true or not. It may have something to do with Jesus and His 12 disciples, which add up to 13. And since one of them betrayed Him, I guess some people consider it an unlucky number. And since some people also observe Good Friday, they don’t like to ascociate the 13th day with any Friday. But I’m not sure, since there are a few other possibilities.
McCain is center to the Right. Obama is 2nd fartherest to the left. I would not have chosen McCain for the selection for Republican, however, i do think Fred Thompson would have been a better choice. At least McCain tells us where he stands clearly. Obama has great flowery flowing speech, but where is the substance. I am concerned with Obama’s background. Has he ever stated his real current name? not during the DNC convention. Reporters dont use his middle name, even Republicans dont use his middle name. Go Figure.
The press has been love struck for Obama since the beginning, but why? What has Obama succeeded with that was good for our country? Hannity has asked many Obama supporters to name just one profound law that he initiated and helped get voted in to Congress. Never a straight answer. And voting “present” instead of yes or no? whats that all about?
In my book, McCain is by far the better choice. If Obama starts showing substance, i might change my mind. Oh, and Obama, use your own words instead of the teleprompter.
thanks,
neo
Wonderful lessons! I’m brand new to the site and I really think you found a cute and fun way to interest men in words. Glad to have you as my new teacher!
Hi Sirfrey and welcome to Hot For Words. It’s not just men here there are ladies present also, but its’ hard to tell by the nick names everyone uses. You’ll get used to them after a while and figure out who is who. Marina will see your word an add it to her list she has. It might be a while before she gets to your word as you can see by the many suggestions that she gets daily. Look around check out some of her other videos on the You Tube site. If you’ll look at the top of the page there is a lessons list of words that she has already done. Have fun on this site comment as much as you would like to others. Miss M. also does word games where we have to guess between three answers she gives us to a question. If you need any help ask Captain Jack as he is the Teachers Assistant or me or anyone else.
Mike
I hate that expression!
I first heard that about a year or two ago. Why add “beans” at the end? Are they saying that it is cool to pass gas or something? I think it is simply better to stick with the word “cool”.
As your neighbour, you Americans should vote for the party, leader, you feel is the least interested in running your life, We in Canada are involved in voting all the time, One of the latest polls conducted was by, I believe, Sports Net Canada. Asking who the Canadian people thought would win more Olympic golds…Canada or Michael Phelps, So far Michael is in the lead.
Our government underfunds or Olympians, they train full time and have full time jobs as well, at Tim Hortons, Mcdonalds…etc. The Government spends money on important stuff, like drug testing.
Hi Warren it’s been awhile… for some reason I thought you were a Canadian, could you possibly be? California has lots of them. I think the Canadian population in LA would make it the forth or fifth largest city in Canada (if it was indeed in Canada).
Facebook is an interesting phenom, people volunteer all kinds of personal info & post what they are up to & who their friends are etc.etc.etc… If’n i were a conspiracy therorist i’d say big brother is behind it. Since I’m the oldest of my parents kids (IE Big brother) keeping track of my siblings, now that we’re all married off, with families of our own, is virtualy Impossible. Even with phone calls, email, crackberries & all the communication technology, I simply don’t have the energy. Heck I can hardly keep up with the pace Marina sets with videos every day, plus some extras & voting… whew…
I hardly have time to work all day too.
Not from Canada though I do say, “Eh” alot “don’t ja know”.
Wisconsin is where I learned to sound like that, so maybe you picked up on my “accent” and the words I frequently use- good ear(eye?). Yes, Marina is working her tail off and I work too many hours so I can hardly keep up. I read all of the comments and folllow through with the references so that takes up more time- but it really is a pleasure so I don’t mind. I like to read books for fun but this is just as fun.
Take it easy
Sometimes the interjection, “oh” was spelled without the H but it’s generally considered archaic in these times. Older literature such as bibles, hymnals and works by people like Shakespeare, etc. used to use it, or at least some of the older print versions I have seen sometimes included it spelled this way. Hope that helps!
Have you seen The Story of O? it has the most erotic scene in any movie I’ve ever watched. In French, it’s called L’histoire d’O. And it has nothing to do with the Cirque du Soleil production of O at the Bellagio. That name of that water-themed production is a play on words, as “eau” means water in French and is pronounced like the letter O.
Eau Really? The Cirque Do So Lay? They do not! O I see, it’s in Las Vegas, Nevada. Well that’s different then! Hmmm. I’ll hafta czech ‘em out at the Fellagio, wink wink. Hey, don’t laugh that was just a legitimate typo! I can’t believe I didn’t proof this reply before I sent it. Dang.
I think the expression come from the process of making honey, which is sweet. So I’m guessing that’s an old way of saying “SWEET!” when we are impressed by something, but I’m not really sure.
If I recall, people like you kept saying the same thing in 2006, that a vote for a Democrat was a vote for Al-Qaeda. Come the end of that year, the Democrats controlled the House and the Senate.
And since they have contolled Congress, the stock market has tanked, mortgage interest rates are up, the housing market is almost non-existant, people are losing equity in their home value, gas went over $4.00 a gallon, unemployment is up, etc, etc, etc.
Why will people vote for Democrats this year? Because the Democrats are considered the lesser of two evils when compared to the GOP.
You are obviously a person who has strong conservative values. For about every one of you on the right, there is a voter on the left with strong liberal values. The bases of the left and right kind of cancel out each other come election time, and it is then the middle voters with no party affiliation that swing the vote this way or that. Because of Iraq, the economy, and Bush, there is a strong anti-Republican bias in 2008 among the middle voters. You may not like it, but it’s there, and it’s going to be a very decisive factor this year.
Perhaps the real reminder you need is that not a single Democratic incumbent lost in 2006. Not a one. The Democrats have won every special election so far this year,.. there were three of them so far, I believe, all in former GOP strongholds like districts in Mississippi and such. You tell me why those voters voted Democrat when they haven’t done that for many years.
“The lesser of two evils”? You failed to offer any response to what I said. Or maybe, that was your response. Silence.
Why would there be a strong anti-Republican bias this year because of Iraq and the economy? Congress voted to go to war with Iraq and Congress makes laws that effect the economy. The Democratically controlled Congress.
As far as the Dems winning in 2006, the same thing happened when Newt was in Congress and the Republicans won everything. Everyone was tired of the Democrats being in office. It’s cyclical.
Going out of your way to prove your bias is funny.
Do you really think they hit us because of Bush?
How differently would Kerry have handled this war?
Would We have just surrendered. Or do like Clinton
did when we were attacked? Time after time.
Maybe The same thing as Carter?
The new name for the left;
STRAW DOG DEMOCRATS.
And their moto is;
DON’T TREAD ON ME OR I WILL RUN AWAY.
Can any Liberal explain to me why gas prices have soared while Congress has been controlled by the Democrats the past 2 years? And yet they still refuse to allow us to drill for oil to reduce our dependency on foriegn oil….
My theory is that the Dems have perfected the art of doing nothing so that their competition ‘owns’ everything. Why get out of Iraq when you can make the GOP ‘own’ that debacle? Why do something about high gas prices when the oilman Bush and his big oil party will ‘own’ that issue as well? After the 2006 election, Democrats like Rahm Emanual and Chuck Shumer realized that they could play their same hand come 2008 to even greater results. So far, it’s working, with GOP losing three consecutive special elections this year in districts they used to fiercely dominate.
Where to begin…….You are correct about one thing, the Dems have perfected the art of doing nothing!! And as typical liberal, since you are short on substance, you resort to personal attacks.
First of all, the Democrats have no plan in Iraq, other then to run like cowards and demean our troops. Second, “oilman Bush and his big oil party”? When you grow up and get a job and start putting money into a retirement account, (you’ll have to do this because the Dems will have spent all your Social Security), that money will likely be in some sort of mutual fund. Since you are against make money in oil, are you going to ensure that your funds do not contain any oil stock?
By the way, Chuck Shumer is one of the biggest reasons to have term limits in Congress…….
Your side should actually be more concerned about how they annoy the independent voters.
It’s funny, even if you are fiercely partisan for a political party, you are still in the minority. If you are a Republican, there are more Democrats and Independents against you. If you are a Democrat, there are more Republicans and Independents against you. Same goes with religion… no matter what religion you are part of, it is a minority when compared to all the people that aren’t part of that religion.
I guess that’s why they say to not discuss politics or religion among polite company, because the odds are against you in actually finding somebody also in the same minority as you, whether it be a political minority or religious minority.
Why compromise principles to please other people. You should vote according to what you believe, not vote to appease others, or even yourself. It is what is best for the country.
The last I heard, the majority of this country is Christian, except maybe California. And I am not, as you say, “against” Democrats or Independents. I merely hold different views.”Against” is a word liberals use to divide people for their own gains.
I have heard the term Lame Duck as a do nothing person or group like “this is a lame duck congress.” I have heard that term on the news before and all of congress does not get voted out at once, unforgently. I don’t know who I will vote for I feel we need a strong third party, but with the choices I have now it will be Mc Cain.
One of the reasons I am an independent voter who is going to vote for Obama is because I feel that vote best sets up a possible strong third party in the future. The logic is as follows… one of the two major parties, the Republican party, is in shambles thanks to the last 8 years of Bush. After 2004, the GOP had all branches of government and took the country for a nosedive because of incompetence and corruption, among other things.
With 2008 shaping up to be the opposite of 2004, the Dems can end up controlling all of government: the House, the Senate, and the White House. Should that happen and our nation continues to take a dive under Democratic control, the stage will be set for a viable third party to occur, or for a lot of independent politicians to be elected with or without a third party.
Make no mistake about it… the two party system is in jeopardy right now. If Dems take control and fail further, the American voters will be heavily reluctant to swing back to the Republicans as a solution. I think both of the major parties know this, which is why they will be strange bedfellows no matter who wins in 2008, else risk 2010 and 2012 being the beginning of the end for the two parties which currently dominate the electoral process.
Do you even know what all branches of government” are? You are partially correct, there are 3, but the House, the Senate and the White House is not the correct answer…
What specific “incompetance” and “corruption” are you referring to?
Hello Marina! thank you very much for sharing with us! i really appreciate it! you are so nice! and a very good teacher i learned a lot out from your videos. i am one of your dear students! i would like to request a word i heart it last week and i have no idea what it means. so here it is “FUNAMBULIST” if you have time please investigate this word!! i hope to hear from you soon.

Voting for McCain. I’ve been reading both McCain’s and Obama’s websites since the elections began. I am less afraid of what McCain will do economically and in regards to national security than Obama.
I won’t be voting for either candidate, because the UK hasn’t become the 51st state…yet! (Mind you, I’m still puzzled about what benefits we derive from the “special relationship”).
From what I’ve heard over here, it looks as though it will be an interesting contest. On the one hand, you’ve got Obama, who seems to have been making up for his relative lack of experience in politics by globetrotting and trying to win the support of international audiences (the very people who can’t vote for him!). On the other, you’ve got McCain, who’s got bags of experience but could be prone to ageism. However, it’s interesting how many press articles regarding the former third candidate were very negative and vitriolic. Unfortunately, it seems some sections of the US media aren’t ready for a female president yet. (I wonder how you’d have coped if you’d had our Maggie a few years back…)
Anyway, away from politics. Wowza – there are many medical prefixes, suffixes and other bits of terminology – it’s a real hot potato of a subject.
Hang on – that’s an interesting phrase to define – “Hot potato”.
Took me all day to figure it out, but I’ve decided that my vote is going to be for President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho. I’ll probably have to write it in.
On a side note, I find it comical how demonized a politician gets by the other side as soon as they win their party’s presidential nomination. SUDDENLY (and quite farcically) everybody on the right thinks Barack Obama is the worst man on the planet, whereas everybody on the left has now decided John McCain is the worst man on the planet. Funny how it always works that way with partisans.
When it comes down to it, I’ll vote for whomever will take the hysterics out of modern politics. Too many people start acting like idiots when it comes to politics, demonizing their fellow Americans too easily. The adult thing to do is agree to disagree. Impassioned extremism and melodramatic histrionics need to become a thing of the past.
Labbatt is a Canadian brand of beer. So if I’m reading the clues right, it’s even less likely that labbatt78 will ever get to vote for Reagan since dead people (like Ronald Reagan and myself) can’t run for office in Canada like they can in the US..
There is a psychological component to the term lame duck. As Marina said, a second-term president is free from electoral pressure. If the president is popular then this power is amplified and is significant. If the president is unpopular then this enhances the negative aspects of leaving office.
Plus, all his male friends are asking how they can meet you and his teachers are asking if you’ll come to his school and give a presentation. I’ve unleashed a force beyond my power. Help!
CaptainJack – None of his teachers have the secret. They are mostly rather boring, unfortunately, according to my son. However, they find Marina most interesting, I believe.
Yay!!! My evil step mother said computers are useless toys. Im so very happy that you let your son use a computer and the internet to increase his knowledge.

Believe it or not Bush can do a third term. The constitution says no more than two consecutive terms. He can sit this term out and come back for another.
Before I get called on this I have researched this and talked with teachers of American Government/history and talked with Political science majors.
Try researching it by reading the wording of the actual amendment:
“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this Article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President, when this Article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this Article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.”
Says nothing at all about consecutive terms. It says no more than two terms per president. Pretty straightforward.
Ya, and the key word ‘consecutive’ is nowhere to be found in the 22nd amendment.
Dude, consult all the people you like, but you can also just read the damn amendment. It says in plain English that there will be no more than 2 terms for a president. It mentions NOTHING about this ‘consecutive’ qualifier you are so confused about. You can’t just take a Constitutional amendment and start pretending it has words in it that aren’t there.
If you want to proceed with this foolish obstinance of yours regarding your MISTAKEN take on the 22nd amendment, then show me where in the 22nd amendment it says the word ‘consecutive’. Until you can find that wording in there, you need to face facts that your research for this matter was flawed. “I talked to a bunch of people who know this stuff” doesn’t cut it. It’s about as effective as “my cousin knew a guy once who said so”.
On a side note, to me, this belies a very human factor when it comes to seeking the truth. All too often, people let their emotions and their pride get in the way of getting to the bottom of things and finding the truth of the matter. That’s what’s great about the truth… it is what it is, and remains so despite what a person may think of it. Indeed, those that think they can judge the truth often find that it is the truth that judges them. And yet, it goes to the very heart of human nature that many would rather believe a comfortable lie than accept an uncomfortable truth. Especially in creature comfort obsessed America!
As errin said, there is no mention of consecutive terms. The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution ratified in 1951 states that a president may not be elected to more than two terms. Aside from legal challenges, the 12th Amendment prevents a president from serving more than two terms. FDR is the only president to be elected more than twice. ref: 22nd Amendment
The idea of consecutive terms probably came from Clinton who favored repealing the 22nd Amendment in favor of serving more than two terms with an intervening term.
The 22nd Amendment says this: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once….”
It says nothing about consecutive terms. He can’t be elected again.
A friend mentioned a word her mom used, years ago, in referring to the wrinkly look her skin got after being in the bathtub too long: “whit-leather.” I looked this up on the net and got a disappointingly sparse definition. Maybe you could help me out?
in February 2004 Barack obama’s wife Michelle sent a fund raising letter with the alarming news that right wing politicians had passed a law stopping Doctor es from stabbing half born babied in the neck with scissors suctioning out their brains and crushing their skulls Obama is for that what has mankind come too
So what you’re saying is that Barack Obama and his wife are pro-choice. I think people already know this about them. Thanks, tho! Lovely imagery you conjure up there… and so maturely done too!
That is a very good question. No matter which one gets elected they will only have one term. There is too many problems to fix. Sorry to say I’m glad Hillary is out of the running. I just don’t think we are ready for a woman president, well at least not her. Now if Obama wins how long do you think he will last before some nutcase tries to assassinate him because of him being black. I guess one would have to look at them (Obama and McCain) both and decide which one is the lesser of the two evils. I, myself, am a democrat and will probably vote accordingly. Although it also depends on who they choose for running mates.
Like I have seen in earlier posts either one will be better than Bush. Hell Nixon would be better and he’s dead.
Now if I offended anyone with my views I do apologize.
Look who knows so much. Well, it just so happens that your only mostly dead. There’s a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Now, mostly dead is slightly alive. Now, all dead…well, with all dead, there’s usually only one thing that you can do. INIGO says “What’s that?” Go through his clothes and look for loose change.
I voted for Democrats for the midterm elections and will vote for McCain for president because quite frankly I DONT TRUST EITHER PARTY to have control of both the Legislature and the Executive. Sadly, I think Obama will win.
Mariana, a word request if you will: “Decimate”
most people use it incorrectly, and I would wager more than 10% of the time
mannydib, you have a very valid point. Having a full democratic control would not be good. No checks and balances. McCain would be a good choice to keep everything in balance.
I don’t see how we solve a lot of our big problems these days by creating the gridlock of a Republican president with a Democratic Congress. I too don’t like either party, and have some reservations about the impending shift to the left of this country, but the last thing we need these days is business as usual. Still, split your vote if that’s what you feel is best.
I would vote for Donald Duck before I vote for any man connected with George Bush in any way or would openly admit he would give a job to Dick Cheney (the true antichrist) in his cabinet. Hence this time around Donal Duck is named Obama. I just wish I knew what Obama stood for other than change… specifics would be greatly appreciated. But as Albert Einstien once said that doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is insanity. Hence voting for Bush the 3rd (McCain) is absolutely insane.
I will take the unknown devil over the known every time, least we might be pleasantly surprised… couldn’t be any worse!
hi marina that was a good one you have a way of explaining things sometimes you say something and bam i get it you looked so pretty in that pink dress or maybe it was just a top anyway you looked very nice today homework Obama or McCain i am not voting i know what is coming i just waiting for it to happen you are a excellent teacher thank you
Can you please do “Georgia” as in the Country. And since you asked us youtubers a question about politics by wanting to know who we would vote for, I would like to know what your opinion is on the Russia/Georgia conflict.
Hi prezleefun, many months ago, Marina made several comments where she said she would not comment on political issues as they are too divisive and that there are plenty of political issues when sorting out word origins. Here is what Marina said: (ref. barbarian video comments)
… it’s not that I don’t like politics.. I just don’t talk about them. That is not what my website is about. There are plenty of other websites for that. I talk about philology.. and believe me… there are plenty of politics in etymology! People argue about this stuff all day long!!!
Hi errin, why are you puzzled? Marina stated she isn’t against politics, just that this site is not her place for her to make comments about it. Marina has already answered the advertising selections on the “barbarian video” page.
When it comes to business, the money is green no matter where it comes from. I think only the most diehard left and right businesses segregate their ads. Sometimes, that can be as futile as saying I won’t
buy anything made in China. In the end, it’s all about business
hi if i was American i would vote for obama cause mcain seems a tad bit old. i’m not following the elections but that’s my opinion.
on a separate note i would like yoiu to do a video explaining where the term donkey kong came from. i mean why donkey and not monkey. also where does the kong in donkey kong and king kong come from.
i hope you do it and thanks in advanced. also sorry for not signing up to your website earlier i only signed up tonight
I hope you are a patient person because sometimes it takes a long time for Marina to respond to word requests. She gets quite a lot of requests every day, and also some that are requested by multiple students. In the meantime, enjoy our forum; we have a lot of fun joking with each other and the Teacher’s Assistant, Captain Jack. Feel free to ask questions of anyone. Most of us try our best to be helpful.
Almost forgot… lame duck presidents are actually incredibly weak political figures, even if they still have some power. The point is is that they are a shadow of what a real president with real political capital is. A lame duck president is also regarded as a failure, since a successful president is supposed to sustain their leadership and popularity throughout their entire term. Lame duck status is about as bad as it can get for a politician, especially a president.
You got it wrong here. A ‘lame duck’ is legislatively weak but in no way does that equate to being a weak political ‘figure’, and popularity has nothing to do with it–even though lame duckers usually enjoy a little lift in popularity.
Obama will be the next president. It’s really very simple when it comes to our two party system… Bush is so unpopular that the swing voters will decide that they’d rather have a Democratic president in the White House come 2009 rather than another Republican. Never in American electoral history has a deeply unpopular president of one party been followed by another president of that same party. The middle, independent voters decide American elections, not the Republicans of the right or the Democrats of the left, and the middle will be choosing Obama because they are tired of how badly the Republicans got things under Bush. It’s all fairly cut n dry.
I think the whole Katrina affair showed that NONE of the Bush crowd could predict hurricanes.
But Karl Rove is no joke when it comes to assessing elections. That map was put out by his consulting firm, which means it includes polling and other applications of political science in it. Sounds like you just don’t like the writing that’s on the wall when it comes to our next president Barack Obama.
The Dems have had Congress for the last 2 years only out of the last 8 years. And most of those 2 years has been the Repub minority and President Bush blocking the Dem majority from doing much.
Though Congress is held in low opinion, the question is which of the two parties is held in lower esteem by the voting public. The answer is the Republican party. In a two party system, all the Dems have to do is be more popular than the Repubs, and that is exactly what they have done.
And Capman is right on when he points out that most people are sick of the Republican BS of the last 8 years. That’s a fact held up by nearly all the polls.
Who are in these polls IQs of 66
What about the 30 years of dem rule of congress before the 80s
Are all the ills in the world on Bush. what a joke.
If you can give me some facts you can back up with true facts?
Who gave us the SSI we have to day
puplic schools
welfare and now black family’s are much better?? now
maybe read the fall of the Rome and see what your ideas are going to do here.
Can you tell me what you do not like about Communism? anything at all?
The people in those polls are people who hold Republican politicians accountable for their failures. They do not look the other way like a right wing partisan when it comes to the Republican party.
Seriously, you think the 2008 election is going to be about ANY of the antiquated notions you put forth?
After the 2004 election, Bush and the Republicans had control of government. They screwed up royally, and now most people don’t like them. Conservatives such as roadrunmch don’t get that, that the rest of us aren’t going to give the GOP such an easy pass, that we don’t excuse Republican incompetence and corruption out of some hysterical fear of the liberals destroying the world.
The people in these polls are the American electorate. They are your fellow Americans, and if you are pro-Bush, then you need to recognize you are in a vast minority these days. Save the hysteria of the culture wars for yesteryear, please. We need to move this country forward, not backwards.
I would have to agree with you Errin that Obama will be the next president. If the theory of the people wanting a democrat for a president. There is not a doubt in my mind. One could just almost skip the election and just make Obama the next president without to much rebuttal. But if the people are willing to over look what the republican party has done in the last 8 years then McCain will win.
It’s the ‘lesser of two evils’ dynamic of our two party system. Every 4 years, the swing voters decide which of the two presidential candidates are disliked less by them. McCain has a branding problem because of his association with Bush and the Republicans. Obama has quite the opposite, benefiting from being about as far from Bush and the Republicans as you can get.
What I find funny is that some wonder whether Obama’s race will factor in, that he might lose because certain white voters won’t vote for him. But the incorrect leap of logic that keeps being made regarding this is that such racist voters are going to therefore go out of their way to vote for McCain. Could be such voters just won’t vote Obama or McCain, and may decide to not vote at all. Race won’t be as big of a factor as it is getting trumped up to be, as ‘Voter A won’t vote for a black candidate’ is simply not the same as ‘Voter A will also go out of their way to vote for a white candidate instead’.
As the state I live in (Maryland) will overwhelmingly vote
for what ever candidate the Democrats nominate be it
Obama or Clinton, I most likely will vote for Ron Paul as
a protest vote.
I have been to Maryland two or three times for fire classes at the National Fire Academy. It was a beautiful place to just to site see the whole week I was there. It is an old nunnery and has a lot of history to it. We went to Gettysburg and visited the battle grounds and visited both the North and South sides of the grounds. Great place. Maryland.
Another vote in the electoral college for Obama!
Protest voting leads to regret. You’ll be happier
in the end if you vote FOR someone than to let
your tallied vote be counted for someone else.
A wise man once said, “Support your arguements (sic) with facts, please, makes a dialogue possible.”
Given this information, your statement presents a quandary that begs two questions:
1) How will we judge whether we would have been happier if things can only go a certain way? We can’t have both so no comparison can be derived, unless…..
2) Shall we measure the happiness we now experience against the happiness our alternate identities experience based upon an opposite outcome of events occurring in an alternate dimension or parallel universe? Hmmm.
See what I mean? There are no facts to support a conclusion that we would have been happier if…etc, etc.
So I take your reply to mean that to support one candidate or the other must necessarily depend upon the political party against whom one is compelled to protest. In other words, we don’t vote FOR anyone, just AGAINST someone. Seems a bit of a reactionary viewpoint to me. In the final analysis we select a candidate based on our personal motivations and best judgment, and live with it, no?
Wow! errin is dogging my every comment?
as if this changes the fact i have presented!
All your opinion doesn’t change the fact that
the electoral college elects the President.
The electoral college does not have a third
political party. Just two! no centrists, socialists,
or communists, etc – none! Your choice is “A”
or “B”. Choose “C”, “D”,”E”, etc. and it goes
counting towards “A” or “B”. If you wish your
vote to count as a protest, or against something,
go right ahead! My advice is that you make
your vote count for something. President Bush
won last time partly because of independent
“protest” votes going to him! The story then
was that the Electoral College should be
overturned by the Supreme Court, because
GW “stole” the election. Smoke, mirrors and
a lot of media noise later, what happened?
The electoral college decision remained.
A lot of voters were angry because they
thought their votes would not help elect
President Bush, but that’s not how it works!
My simple suggestion was this: Pick one,
and win or lose, you’ll be happier than if
you let the electoral college pick for you.
Hopefully, you understand what I said and
this ends your desire to continue picking
apart my posts so you can interject your
agenda of partisan politics. Not very
friendly of you. PT9? I think you got
way lost on your detailing to understand
what is very obvious, duh? Quoting my
words to induce me is one thing, but,
your other comments? Ridiculous..
Maryland!!! WOW I lived there till 1984 when we moved out west to Montana. It was in a small town called Sunshine, just about 5 miles from Brookevil. And about 50 miles from both D.C. and Baltimore.
Loved the Baseball games when I was a kid. GO Eddie Murry!!!!
There’s also an argument to be made that a protest vote is MORE valid than a vote for either of the two major parties. Just look at the state of the country. The two major parties have practically gamed the system so that they can promise anything and deliver on nothing, and the American voters just put up with that. Plenty of people put in protest votes or vote third party because they view the two major parties as a sham. Indeed, those that think a regular vote for a major party is the only valid way to vote need to start asking themselves what that mentality has gotten them in the last 8 years or so.
hello marina i thought of a phase i heard it is “winner winner chicken diner” what does that mean i asked my self that after seeing 21 so if u could be so kind to answer it would be !sweet! just like u
Hey, i hav a word/phrase request- where does the phrase “for pete’s sake” come from. And who is Pete:???: Thanks and I love your videos especially ur russian ones since im russian too .
Hey Marina
I am requesting a word. I was wondering where the word “ludicrous” came from. Thanks and i hope you can post the origin of the word “ludicrous” on youtube!
Dear Marina, It was nice to see you in that nice summer dress! For a while, I thought the weather was so cold in Southern California that you had to wear all those T-shirts! I hope you get more warm weathere there!
For your homework, I plan to vote for Sen. McCain. Did you vote for Dmitry Medvedev? I hope you won’t ask more political questions since it could reduce your audience by 50%.
Also, I notice that you sometimes bleep out an English curse word. Do you only use bad words in English now, instead of Russian ones? You’ve learned our language very, very well, obviously! Your dear student, Seesixcm6
no fucking way, you use fuck too! you forignors are pretty fucking smart lerning american real good. i did not know so many forignors know our word for fuck. the world is fucked up. ware are you from, you sound russan.
man, you russans are a pissed off people! you don’t speek good english. what you said has numbers in it and little letters that are for other words. thats not english you dumb forignor! you don’t know nothing about writing right. you should go back to scool and lern about langwedge.
seesixcm6, when I am speaking in English I might yell out “fudge” once in a while….. what? You thought I said something else?
As for asking political questions.. I was truly curious to see what percentage was going for each candidate. And, you are correct.. it’s probably 50% either way.
Dear Marina, Yes, I apologize to you. I’m sorry I thought you said…something else. You are so beautiful, exquisite and speak so well, that it surprises me when I think you say…”fudge.”
Always your dear student, seesixcm6
Obama was, of course, generalizing, Warren – always a dangerous thing to do, especially when what you say goes on record almost immediately. This is the quote, from an April 6th fundraiser in San Francisco [boldface mine]:
But the truth is, is that, our challenge is to get people persuaded that we can make progress when there’s not evidence of that in their daily lives. You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.
Um, now these are in some communities, you know. I think what you’ll find is, is that people of every background — there are gonna be a mix of people, you can go in the toughest neighborhoods, you know working-class lunch-pail folks, you’ll find Obama enthusiasts. And you can go into places where you think I’d be very strong and people will just be skeptical. The important thing is that you show up and you’re doing what you’re doing.
Frankly it stereotypes small-town midwesterners, IMO, as hicks. I grew up in a small Indiana town, so, yes, I took it a bit personally.
I’m from the midwest also and I went through the ‘82 recession-that was scary. Free trade, outsourcing make strange bedfellows. Talking about the loss of jobs doesn’t create new ones. Did he roll up his sleeves yet? I guess I’m a bitter too.
What the heck was I looking for in that link? Too much stuff, not enough direction. I hope it wasn’t the Nike ad that auto-starts when the page opens. I paused it immediately. Oh well.
How in the hell can someone ranking 8th get the grand prize! Why? Because they didn’t care who wins. They got all of us to visit their stupid site so they could push their advertising on to us like cattle to the slaughterhouse. You know whats even funnier. We, the consumers love to pay mega corporations to do this sort of advertising. What a waste of good money in this vicious circle we call the rat race.
I lost respect for Nike years ago when they were running sweat shops. One of my former bosses (Fawn) said it was pretty bad back in those days. Over the years I’ve seen mega corporations do some very bad things to consumers that really made me feel bad in the inside, because I was giving my word that what they were buying was the best product at a fair price. This is one of many reasons I left retail to get my captain’s license. I needed to go back and do something that would truly benefit people and not cheat them. Now I know my teachings are saving lives. I feel really good about my new job.
Hello Marina, you’re looking gorgeous as always. I think i’m voting Mccain this November. Its not like hes super awesome or anything but yeah. Heres some intersesting facts though, my Uncle is Obama’s Personal Life Guard at Sandys Beach today! As you alll know Obama is in Hawaii on vacay, and the secret service ask my uncle, whose the head life guard at Sandy’s, to be Obamas persoanl life guard. I thought that was cool, im not voting for the guy but come on hes the biggest celebrity in the world according to Maccains ad lol. Also my other Uncle who lives on Kauai made an Obama impersonation vid check it out: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZBuJiSyfCg

Ah dopey me.
I get what’s going on here.
It’s got nothing to do with the November election.
Here’s how I figured it.
It’s summer
You go to picnics
What do they serve at picnics
Baked Beans Fiesty Baked Beans
Beans, that’s the ticket.
This is a test to see if we have been paying attention.
HotForWords wants us to eat Old Greek Salads.
Ancient Greece, Black and White Voting Beans, Spill the Beans, See how the voting’s going. That’s it!!
And the duck connection is easy.
The spill the beans lesson ended with a slip up “Spill the Bill”
A Duck’s Bill Hence QUACK!!!! (Says the duck who’s foot has been stepped on) A Lame Duck.
Sister Words called and said so, so you know it’s true.
Hmmm. I have’t heard that expression, but it may be a reference to the fact that a griffin is a mythical beast, so it gives me the impression that whatever this thing is that’s supposed to be smiling doesn’t exist in the first place.
Morning Marina.
Well I’m voting for…. oooh shoot, I’m not allowed to vote! Iäm not even a Unitid State Citizen…. How boring…
Otherwise I’m voting for Moderaterna hehehe.
Awesome video As always tho, and do you know why americans uses pounds and foot and inches instead of the metric system that was made to be more efficeint and better then the old foot and inch one?
Well of course, how stupid of me! Where else in the world can you get arrested and thrown into a jailhouse designed by Frank Lloyd Wright? Talk about upper-crust…
Marina, why did your hair become suddenly mussed after you said “A lame duck cannot keep up with the flock and becomes easy prey.”??? Then it was fixed again!?!? Did some dastardly villain try to make you easy prey?
You’re opening a big can of worms by asking people who they’re going to vote for! I plead the 5th on this one!!!
Let me ask you: What’s going on with Russia invading Georgia? Whose side are you on in that one? And are you still a Russian citizen or are you an American now? (You can also plead the fifth if you want.)
russia was not invading georgia just like that. abkhazia and south ossetia were calling russia for help. russia is the only protecting power they will accept.
How did South Ossetia wind up being a Georgian bedfellow in the first place. My understanding is that this separatist region has a population more sympathetic with Russia. Maybe we should just let South Ossetia proclaim its independence? And if they fall under the influence of Russia, then so be it. That is where their sentiments apparently lie, anyway. I think the president of Georgia is just being politically manipulative. Is it wise for us to piss off the Russians when we will be relying upon their Soyuz to ferry our astronauts to the ISS and back between 2010 and 2015?
Technically there is no “South Ossetia” since that implies that the area is not part of the Tskhinvali region of Georgia but a separate republic. I keep reading about “Ethnic Ossetians” which I now understand is what the politically correct media calls the mostly Muslim area. If the facts I got are correct, the area is about 2/3’s Muslim. I am perplexed as to why the Muslims would ask Russia for help in their attempt to secede from Georgia when Russia killed so many Muslims when Chechniya tried to break away from Russia and establish an independent Muslim Republic.
South Ossetia and the Black Sea region of Abkhazia broke away from Georgia after fighting wars against Tbilisi in the 1990s. Both have financial support from Moscow, and the vast majority of locals have Russian citizenship.
[South Ossetia] broke away from Georgian rule in a war in 1991-1992 in which several thousand people died, and maintains close ties with the neighbouring Russian region of North Ossetia, on the north side of the Caucasus.
The majority of the roughly 70,000 people are ethnically distinct from Georgians, and speak their own language, related to Farsi. They say they were forcibly absorbed into Georgia under Soviet rule and now want to exercise their right to self-determination. [...]
Around two-thirds of annual budget revenues of around $US30 million come directly from Moscow. Almost all the population hold Russian passports. They use the Russian rouble as their currency.
[...]
Abkhazia is internationally recognised as part of Georgia but it has declared itself an independent state.
It fought a war in the early 1990s to drive out Tbilisi’s forces. The conflict killed an estimated 10,000 people and forced hundreds of thousands to leave their homes. [...]
Like the South Ossetians, the Abkhaz people are ethnically distinct from Georgians. They say they were forcibly absorbed into Georgia under Soviet rule and now want to exercise their right to self-determination. [...]
Separatist officials say over 80 per cent of residents in Abkhazia have been issued with Russian passports. Russia’s Government pays pensions to Abkhaz retirees.
Lol, I’m not perplex(ed) aLx. Just wanted to show Marina that the storm over politics can go two ways. FWIW, the Russians are still scared shitless of the Germans. At least when Stalin was in charge, everything was quiet as a grave.
Hmmm… no resolutions before the UN
by Russia regarding Georgia? Cool!
A new accepted precedent. Did y’all
notice that Condi Rice is on the diplo
tour RIGHT NOW? Shit’s going to fly…
HItler used the same pretexts to invade Poland and the rest of Europe. Taking back land where there are speakers of the Mother Tongue. If Russia is allowed to invade an independent Democratic republic under any pretense, then Ukraine and the rest of the countries of the FSU are in danger. Russia wants Georgia because of the oil pipelines running through it. They want Ukraine because it is the breadbasket of Europe. If they believe Obama will be elected and they think he will be a weak leader, then they will try to get away with whatever they can. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
The phrase first appears in print in 1531 where it describes a vessel which had safely cleared the coast, then later Shakespeare used it in Henry VI as a reference to visibility. Neither of these references touch on its true insinuation; it is a reference to smuggling … or some nefarious operation. My source: “Salty Dog Talk: The Nautical Origins of Everyday Expressions” by Bill Beavis and Richard G. McCloskey – Note: Im not a 100% sure if this is book is correct. Maybe Marina or some other philologist could shed some light on this.
hi Marina, first of all, i wanna tell u dat u r super cute.
anyways i want to reques diz word! PASSPORT??
where did it came from?? PASS-PORT
thank you take care mami
Welcome to HFW chriss1719. You just reminded me that I have some passport issues I need to get working on. I have to get my TWICs card, and some other damn expensive card. They all do the same thing but not interchangeable. It just another scam for the government to fund the mega war companies.
Company of Thieves – The Fire Song – Live from University of Illinois
….THE KINKS – VICTORIA…love you all
if i could i guess obama but mccain would be good too
1:36 LMFAO
i have a very good word request for you marina.
“chode”
i saw someone post a comment containing the word on youtube and i seem to remember hearing it somewhere before as well.
will you educate me please?
I’m proud to say that I voted for Obama. 8 years ago I might have voted for McCain, but not this time around.
Homework=Obama
Bush=LAME DUCK
or did he clip the ducks wings?: out for tea and KNEW ducks of quack policey…bees are good and have a good day, 007
Homework: After President McCain serves his two terms, President Palin can be the first female president, and serve both of her terms.
There is absolutely no way I’m voting for either McCain or Obama.
I’m votin’ fa Barry!
Marina,
You know how ducks fly in a “V” and how one side is always longer than the other? Know why that is?……..There’s more ducks in that side
I have to agree with muggins. Though neither candidate is stellar, McCain will get my vote in November.
Perhaps your most educational investigation ever, Marina. Kudos, for that. As a middle-of-the-road voter, I am concerned about certain issues (in order of importance): National Defense (McCain wins), the Economy (McCain again), Energy (McCain and BO are neck & neck),
Childhood education (not a word from either candidate), Health Care (hardly a word from either candidate), and Taxes (McCain). Adding them up, it’s McCain, so far.
I prefer roast duck over lame duck anyday…
Let’s get in the Olympic spirit here… how about Peking Duck?

McCain – Obama doesn’t have any experience and is too much of a Socialist.
Leaned towards Obama at first but now McCain. I think Russia’s actions brought people back to reality.
Obama preferred. (He went to my school).
Can you investigate “bungalow?”
MARINA-i’ll probably vote for mccain.but i consider “all” politicians lameducks.tom.staten island.
Hello,
Here’s a request, and I promise I’m not being perverted. I commonly hear the word: anal. But do people mean “anile”? You see, in America, when someone says “He/she is anal”, I think they actually mean, anile, not anal, as in near the anus. Can you clear this up? thanks!
I like to know the word mosin nagant
I have a request for you.
“Jinn”. It’s origin and meaning.
Ofcourse the response to this, must be done in full hijabi outfit
Yes.
I’m honestly not sure if I am voting at all… If I do vote it will be for McCain though. Normally I always vote Democrat, but… I just don’t trust Obama.
Go with your instincts this time……
What’s this deal Condi is delivering?

Joking aside She would be a good Mentor. ..Mentora?
Hey HotforWords! I was wondering if you could find the origin of the term, “Wrap it up” Thanks!
words request phrase, “my bad”
word request , overheat
word request, “Pepe”
That not a word, that my name!
I am going to abstain this election…
Why or how did the number 13 become associated with being “unlucky” or is it just me
Bush 50.5% Kerry 49.5%
With margins that close
history is made
and you want to sit on the bench?
cool
Ya, your right! He who straddles the fence soon gets a sore crotch…
I’m proud to be an American
I’m voting for Mccain
Don’t you wish Fred Thompson was still in?
We could’ve had a hot first lady…
Oh, and Obama, use your own words instead of the teleprompter.
thanks,
neo
OK, it’s hard to type after watching your video lessons. I meant this word:
CONCUPISCENT
Sorry for the typo !
Wonderful lessons! I’m brand new to the site and I really think you found a cute and fun way to interest men in words. Glad to have you as my new teacher!
How about this word: CONSUPISCENT
sirfrey
Mike
Word request: “uh huh” and “na uh” … how and why do these mean “yes and “no?”
i can’t spell it, but there’s also “i dunno”
I think it’s spelled mmMMmm. the MM is a higher pitch than the mm. But then again I don’t know
“I dunno” is just the lazy “i dont know” …
I always liked the single-syllable lunch question: “Djeet?”
not jet
Word Request: Cool beans! A term that one would say after something very…well…cool.
Yes, I would like to chime in again on this one!
My friend says this all the time. I would like to know too.
I hate that expression!
I first heard that about a year or two ago. Why add “beans” at the end? Are they saying that it is cool to pass gas or something? I think it is simply better to stick with the word “cool”.
Chillin’ with some chilly chili. Open a window quick.
The Government spends money on important stuff, like drug testing.
Our government underfunds or Olympians, they train full time and have full time jobs as well, at Tim Hortons, Mcdonalds…etc.
Hello BiilyB,
Here in California our Big Brother is very interested in taking care of us.
If I say a lot of people holding office are lame canards before they become lame ducks am I just driving in a circle
Hello okay4now,
very clever
the bloopers were hilarious
Where did you find this gif? I used it in the SOS answer.. but I am curious where it came from?
Hey Marina, thanks for using the ‘roflcopter’ in your clip. It’s awesome!! I am glad to see people enjoying the animation.
I just did a google search for roflcopter. I looked under the images section, and it popped up somewhere in the first three pages I think.
Here’s a link to one http://images.wikia.com/uncyclopedia/images/7/73/Roflcopter.gif
It’s a shame that there isn’t many ‘roflsaurus’ pictures around (apart from the one I posted here z while back).
BTW, how’s sister..as in..not the attention whore?
I’m voting for the old man.
Barack Obama gets my vote, and my wife’s vote.
hello my dear teacher:) I & A are the smallest words (least amount of letters) in the english language- can anyone think of any others?
1 – no letters

2 – again… no letters
4 – same thing
8 – same
Sometimes the interjection, “oh” was spelled without the H but it’s generally considered archaic in these times. Older literature such as bibles, hymnals and works by people like Shakespeare, etc. used to use it, or at least some of the older print versions I have seen sometimes included it spelled this way. Hope that helps!
Have a great day, dnafragment.

Good point, O wise one.
Dang.
The Fellagio! That’s hilarious! Good one!!!
Hey, I was wondering if you could investigate the origin and meaning of the term “The Bee’s Knees”
Thanks in advance
I think the expression come from the process of making honey, which is sweet. So I’m guessing that’s an old way of saying “SWEET!” when we are impressed by something, but I’m not really sure.
Give al-Qaeda a chance, vote for Barack Hussein Obama.
We have Al-Kaiba
One of my Favourite Family Guy Clips
So funny kaibanator, probably a little truth to the clip as well.. you never know!
I still laugh when I see this clip….One of the best!
Remind me again, why vote for the Democrats????
The new name for the left;
STRAW DOG DEMOCRATS.
And their moto is;
DON’T TREAD ON ME OR I WILL RUN AWAY.
I’m voting for Marina!! Finally, a President who’ll bring World Peace, jobs, and looks great in a Bikini! Well, lots better than Hillary Clinton!
She’s got my vote!!
Can I be her VP? Or maybe “Interior” Secretary??
Can any Liberal explain to me why gas prices have soared while Congress has been controlled by the Democrats the past 2 years? And yet they still refuse to allow us to drill for oil to reduce our dependency on foriegn oil….
Vote Democrat…It’s easier than working!!!!
Another Small town, Religion clinging, Gun toting American who’s voting for McCain!
Annoy a Liberal, support our troops!
I am going to vote for neither…..As I am an Australian
I love the new flash thing advertising your recent lessons/events that you put on your site marina. It looks cool
Thanks kaibanator! Took me all day to get that thing working.. I hope it works out! It looks cool at least
Take care, bye
John.

Last one out turn off the lights, the party over, nap time
Voting for McCain. I’ve been reading both McCain’s and Obama’s websites since the elections began. I am less afraid of what McCain will do economically and in regards to national security than Obama.
err the primaries. I did not begin to track their opinion pieces until after the first of the year. (and what a strange year it has been)
Does Obama know anything about National Security?
Btw when can i be the teachers pet
Hey Marina, I saw some pretty awesome graffiti last time i was in Greenville and I wanted to know the origin of the word “Graffiti”
thanks
If we would have had a woman running with just half of the integrity and honesty your Maggie had, we would have had a female president by now…..
Hey HotForWords, i’m curious where medical suffixes such as ..itus, …syndrome, etc. came from. Could you help me out? Thanks.

Defibrillate?
Yes, please!
No, I mean “Diffibulate”. Lol I’m sure Bob knows what I’m talking about.
Thank god Bush is leaving after this year. I know who I definitely vote for.
If Ronald Reagen runs for president again I vote for him.
dude, you do know Reagan is dead….
Labbatt is a Canadian brand of beer. So if I’m reading the clues right, it’s even less likely that labbatt78 will ever get to vote for Reagan since dead people (like Ronald Reagan and myself) can’t run for office in Canada like they can in the US..
Gosh, I forgot he died. he was a great president when I was a lot younger. Now it’s either Obama or Mc.Cain.
There is a psychological component to the term lame duck. As Marina said, a second-term president is free from electoral pressure. If the president is popular then this power is amplified and is significant. If the president is unpopular then this enhances the negative aspects of leaving office.
P.S My son started school the other day, armed with a much stronger vocabulary
Awesome jcr!
Plus, all his male friends are asking how they can meet you and his teachers are asking if you’ll come to his school and give a presentation. I’ve unleashed a force beyond my power. Help!
JCR, Next the teachers will be asking Marina for her secret.
I am not disclosing my preferred candidate at this time and am still weighing options. The bloopers at the end of each video are so cute!

I have never political voted and probaby willn’t this election year either.
Key word is consecutive. like I said TI talked to alot of people who know this inside and out.
Bear
If it were true Old Billy C would have been brought up to say the world.
I like the guy, but you can’t save the world on BJ’s and cigars
worked for 8 years
The 22nd Amendment says this: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once….”
I heard this condition as ‘PRUNING’ as in your hands and feet look like prunes
why do people kiss under the mistletoe during Christmas and why is it called mistletoe?
Check the “Horny” video under “lessons” in the menu bar at the top of the page. That should help answer any questions about why people kiss.
in February 2004 Barack obama’s wife Michelle sent a fund raising letter with the alarming news that right wing politicians had passed a law stopping Doctor es from stabbing half born babied in the neck with scissors suctioning out their brains and crushing their skulls Obama is for that what has mankind come too
So what you’re saying is that Barack Obama and his wife are pro-choice. I think people already know this about them. Thanks, tho! Lovely imagery you conjure up there… and so maturely done too!
I think he meant in vitro embryonic stem cell research.
no i did not conjure anything up he has voted on it three times but you dot what see it because the truth hearts liberal
Hey, I’m dead and I resent being tossed on a heap with Nixon!

Hello pennsyltucky9
Are you a poltergeist?
Is your keyboard the same as an Ouija Board?
Not Obama
I’m not that liberal either.
Everyone that can vote, should,, and to keep our republic democratically strong http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Ihjb3Z3O1Lk
Maybe I’ll just cast My vote for a write-in called “The Work Ethic”,without it We would All be “sunk”.
Fortunes come and go,Rulers rise and fall,in this place We work,to help Us through it all.
Dunno Who I just quoted but it sounds kinda cool to Me.
tryant
Canadian so I can’t vote, though if I could it would be Obama. A third Bush in the White House is a scary thought.
I doubt McCain could ever be as bad as Bush
McCain ftw
Lame Duck = Awesome definition!
Can you define = Pork Barrel?
that is a good one
earmark
hi marina that was a good one you have a way of explaining things sometimes you say something and bam i get it you looked so pretty in that pink dress or maybe it was just a top
anyway you looked very nice today homework Obama or McCain i am not voting i know what is coming i just waiting for it to happen you are a excellent teacher thank you
I’m waiting for it as well. Shouldn’t be too much longer.
You do realize if you don’t vote you have NO right to camplain about the politics f the country.
The Apathetic Party gets quite a few of the votes.
Can you please do “Georgia” as in the Country. And since you asked us youtubers a question about politics by wanting to know who we would vote for, I would like to know what your opinion is on the Russia/Georgia conflict.
I second this word request, with a specific request to find out why the country of Georgia and the state of Georgia have the same name.
Hi prezleefun, many months ago, Marina made several comments where she said she would not comment on political issues as they are too divisive and that there are plenty of political issues when sorting out word origins. Here is what Marina said: (ref. barbarian video comments)
And yet she cross-promotes FOXnews, which is highly political. Go figure.
Welcome to the class, kofi246!
See you around the campus!
thanks a lot i’ll go to the forums right away
Even Karl Rove projects that Obama wins by around 80 electoral votes:
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/07/25/1223199.aspx
Uh huh – can he predict hurricanes, too?
I think this will be interesting after November
when the actual votes are counted.
Excellent comment. You are right on, the whole out look of the American people being tired of the Republican BS we went through for 8 or 10 years now.
Capman911
Time out! Resorting
to generalities?
Who controls Congress?
Support your arguements with
facts, please, makes a dialogue
possible.
So much for my opinions.
Organized labor seems to be the problem and they only vote for money!
heh heh – cut and dried?
You assume much that is not true,
but, to be fair, let’s wait and see…
No, I’m right. That others are too confused to see I am matters little to me.
I spent all of 2006 knowing that the Dems were going to sweep the House and Senate, and I was right. Pretty much same dynamic going on this year.
Wait and see, and you’ll see I was right come Election Day this year. I am THAT confident in my assessment.
Did you really say just skip the election and make Obama Pres.
You’re taking this Russian thing a little far comrade.
errin
Who is your favorite Black Governor?
What do you think of Miss Rice?.
How many Republicans own slaves?
how many Democrats did?
As the state I live in (Maryland) will overwhelmingly vote
for what ever candidate the Democrats nominate be it
Obama or Clinton, I most likely will vote for Ron Paul as
a protest vote.
And a five star video as always
I have been to Maryland two or three times for fire classes at the National Fire Academy. It was a beautiful place to just to site see the whole week I was there. It is an old nunnery and has a lot of history to it. We went to Gettysburg and visited the battle grounds and visited both the North and South sides of the grounds. Great place. Maryland.
Another vote in the electoral college for Obama!
Protest voting leads to regret. You’ll be happier
in the end if you vote FOR someone than to let
your tallied vote be counted for someone else.
Maybe you have no clue what his happiness is about or what he should vote for. It’s his vote, and it still counts, even as a protest vote.
I am reminded of a quote:
Even conservative talk radio hosts in Maryland have
conceded the election in the to the democrats
and that there is no way Mc Cain will win the state.
The old stadium was torn down, they didn’t even
save the memorial to the vets.
And who is Pete:???: Thanks and I love your videos especially ur russian ones since im russian too
.
Your dear student, Seesixcm6
uh. i use “fuck”, too. it’s kind of a universal curse word or something.
no fucking way, you use fuck too! you forignors are pretty fucking smart lerning american real good. i did not know so many forignors know our word for fuck. the world is fucked up. ware are you from, you sound russan.

Fuddle Duddle
How cute is it when Marina drops the ” A ” out of her sentences.
Russian does not use A as a preposition or ?
russian has a lot of prepositions. anyway, are you talking about the article? russian doesn’t know articles as far as i know.
seesixcm6, when I am speaking in English I might yell out “fudge” once in a while…..
Marina
The rule of thumb is this;
Republicans vote for the one with the biggest stick.
Democrats vote for the one that squats to pee.
I laughed at the long F************ck
I agree with Gelyon, im with Paris!!
No question, I’m gonna elect neither the changey-guy nor the old guy but Paris Hilton.
Cheers,
Gelyon
I’ll vote for her too. Nice vid. She has calmed down a lot from what she used to be, wild.
Bush’s presidential library is said to warehouse the lame duck tapes. Sounds ducky to me.
keeping his ducks in line takes alot of duck tape.
here’s a surprise – i’m voting for McCain, for REAL change, not promises…
Obama simply scares me – but he thinks i’m “bitter” anyway…
annudder
You must have coulrophobia…
Obama scares a lot of people.
Hello anuddermale,
“he thinks i’m bitter”- personally or in general? I missed the speach, I guess, I’ve been busy.
As Tolstoy once said: “Peace, Warren, peace.”
Obama was, of course, generalizing, Warren – always a dangerous thing to do, especially when what you say goes on record almost immediately. This is the quote, from an April 6th fundraiser in San Francisco [boldface mine]:
Frankly it stereotypes small-town midwesterners, IMO, as hicks. I grew up in a small Indiana town, so, yes, I took it a bit personally.
Your mileage may vary.
annudder
I’m from the midwest also and I went through the ‘82 recession-that was scary. Free trade, outsourcing make strange bedfellows. Talking about the loss of jobs doesn’t create new ones. Did he roll up his sleeves yet? I guess I’m a bitter too.
speakin’ of lame: the seven-million dollar man got robbed

What the heck was I looking for in that link? Too much stuff, not enough direction. I hope it wasn’t the Nike ad that auto-starts when the page opens. I paused it immediately. Oh well.
How in the hell can someone ranking 8th get the grand prize! Why? Because they didn’t care who wins. They got all of us to visit their stupid site so they could push their advertising on to us like cattle to the slaughterhouse. You know whats even funnier. We, the consumers love to pay mega corporations to do this sort of advertising. What a waste of good money in this vicious circle we call the rat race.
Where did he go? I can’t find him anywhere.
Jay?…first vid on the left side just under the winners…
complete with his #1 rank…
annudder
Yeah.. when I saw that, I lost all respect for Nike and their campaign.
Also my other Uncle who lives on Kauai made an Obama impersonation vid check it out: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZBuJiSyfCg
oops heres the link for the vid its funny: My Uncles Obama Impersonation
I think Ted Kennedy should have been asked to serve as Obama’s personal lifeguard.
lol I think he’d find issue with the no drinking on the job policy. That might fly in congress but not in the water! haha
marina pls do video on the word ===> “oops a daisy” or its spelled “ups-a-daisy”

Ah dopey me.

Fiesty Baked Beans

That’s it!!

Hence
QUACK!!!! (Says the duck who’s foot has been stepped on) A Lame Duck.

I get what’s going on here.
It’s got nothing to do with the November election.
Here’s how I figured it.
It’s summer
You go to picnics
What do they serve at picnics
Baked Beans
Beans, that’s the ticket.
This is a test to see if we have been paying attention.
HotForWords wants us to eat Old Greek Salads.
Ancient Greece, Black and White Voting Beans, Spill the Beans, See how the voting’s going.
And the duck connection is easy.
The spill the beans lesson ended with a slip up “Spill the Bill”
A Duck’s Bill
Sister Words called and said so, so you know it’s true.
Muhaaah!!!
Hahahahahaha!
Yes, instead of The Gallup Poll we have the Marina Poll.
Re: Marina Poll- 100 million (and counting) views means people are counting the votes and listening to the opinions from her sites.
what the h*ll is a
GRIFFIN GRIN
i heard on the news referring to something a politician does
You can still vote in Idaho!
I’d a ho once, but then I got married.
Hello Marin
County?
Well of course, how stupid of me! Where else in the world can you get arrested and thrown into a jailhouse designed by Frank Lloyd Wright? Talk about upper-crust…
Hello lividemerald,
I get a kick out of your comments. Don’t stop.
Peace, peace I like it.
It seems that I can’t spell- speech.
–> moscow times article.
–> abc news.
so, you shouldn’t be too perplex.
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
mhm.
barack obama
Hey Marina could you find out where the expression “The coast is clear” comes from
The phrase first appears in print in 1531 where it describes a vessel which had safely cleared the coast, then later Shakespeare used it in Henry VI as a reference to visibility.
You mean it doesn’t refer to a bar of see-thru soap? I always thought the real meaning was transparent, but this definitely clouds the issue…
Funny you should mention that soap. Its the same brand I use. Im thinking of switching to something else.
Where did the word “Filibuster” come from?
I’m voting for Obama…McCaine looks just like every pain in the neck boss I’ve ever had.
They say he can be an SOB sometimes.
yeah, but he folds every hand…
Helsinki complex, maybe?
hi Marina, first of all, i wanna tell u dat u r super cute.
anyways i want to reques diz word! PASSPORT??
where did it came from?? PASS-PORT
thank you take care mami
Welcome to HFW chriss1719. You just reminded me that I have some passport issues I need to get working on. I have to get my TWICs card, and some other damn expensive card. They all do the same thing but not interchangeable. It just another scam for the government to fund the mega war companies.
i always wondered that since HORRIBLE and TERRIBLE are
synonyms
why is it HORRIFIC and TERRIFIC antonyms?
Bush went from Same Duck in 2004 to Lame Duck in 2008. The Bushes and the Clintons are wannabe Reducks.
My Dear Teacher, speaking of politricks, could you investigate the origin of the phrase, “politics makes strange bedfellows”. Thanks.
You mean like Bush and Kennedy on immigration? When was the last time you saw a teddy and a duck in bed together?
You’re right, I guess Mary Jo Kopechne could be referred to as a “bird” but she probably wouldn’t have drowned had she been a duck.
usually the term includes two partnerships that produce interesting results such as, “politics and religion makes strange bedfellows”
I wonder want the out come would be religitics.
Thanks for the correction Buzz.
