  2. kinsa says: 97

My best weekend ever would involve you and hotforprofits along with copious amounts of liquor and chocolate cake … well maybe lemon cake. Or maybe just cupcakes.

  3. Miss Orlova,

I have yet to live a best weekend ever.

They always seemed to start at the end of a long week and then on Sunday I still had not done my homework. And now I don’t have a weekend because at work schedules change all the time. I’m actually working this weekend. I work at Walgreens BTW (God where is my Salvation?). At any rate, working on the weekend is more cool then anything I ever did with my young days’ weekends. I am still young so I am praying my life turns around.

    Your Student,
    TOF

Lets see….my “Best Weekend Ever” consists of me getting paid. Then inviting over a couple of friends, watching TV, playing Video Games, and Munching on some food. Yep, that’s about it! Well….sorta….I have a few others…but they require some Vodka….

  5. johneb says: 94

Hey, Marina, what was the horror movie you were watching on your weekend? And, should you call your video “Marina’s Wild Weekend”?

  8. prospero811 says: 91

Each registrant on that website can vote 5 times a day.

  9. wetsuit5 says: 90

    Marina,

    Shhhhh!
By publishing this lesson you may have violated the contest rules as well.

  10. lol agreed, best weekend of all time!

  11. protac6 says: 87

You Are Officially On Top Marina.

Took me about 18 accounts = 90 votes.

Ehh what the hell. I’ll keep going.

    Everyone else should too.

  12. swampwiz says: 86

Марина, I’d like to get the name of the song playing in the background (i.e., the piano piece), including the artist.

    • Capman911 says: 86.1

Hey Swampwiz. I tried to look through the music she uses now, it’s listed under the little music notes at the top of the page between “Downloads and TA / Pet” and under the “enter your e mail address” box just to the right at the middle top is another musical note that lists music she uses. Marina also uses music from Ronald Jenkees.Com. Listen to those and see if you like any of them. If you don’t find what you want get up with Captain Jack or me and we will see if we can find it if Miss M doesn’t answer you first.

    • Marina says: 86.2

I made it up on my computer.. I’ll post it in the music section soon.

      • BillyB says: 86.2.1

Now that I read this, I have good reason to be intimidated. My parents paid for 8 years of piano lessons with two years of music theory(for which I am grateful). All I end up with is good hands for auto repair & some ability to read & play music, with a minor amount of improv. I have & am thankfull for an appreciation of music & what goes into making it work, to convey ideas & emotion etc. No way… you didn’t just fling this little jem together, just like that, all cutesy & stuff… It’s brilliant for this little video… you aren’t human, are you?
Reminds me of Cinnamon Sun, which also reminds me, don’t be afraid to sing again in a vid, liked it.
You are human, you dance like my daughter, S N M.

  13. protac6 says: 85

Sorry for being a bit late Marina. But I think i may have found you a winner with the Best Weekend Ever. Well, I’d say its like the Best/Craziest Weekend Ever. If I remember correctly.. It all started after prom on Friday…..

Saturday: I woke up with my date and other friends in the hotel where we were staying at hungover (like your video) like there was no tomorrow only to notice that it was Mothers Day! I got a call from my Mom saying to go meet at this restaurant to celebrate for breakfast because I promised her that I would pay for breakfast. I was dressing up in a hurry to get there since I was being late already so I left my friends and date without saying a word. When I got to the restaurant everyone was there but I felt like I was missing something…After we all ate, I noticed the thing I was missing was my wallet. In panic, I quickly called my prom date for some advice. It just so happened that her brother was working there so he saved my life! My mom then announced that she was going to buy my car I was longing for since she was in a good mood. While I was driving home in my new car, I spotted my friend at the park near my house looking depressed. He was sad since his birthday was tomorrow and couldn’t get alcohol for his party. That’s when Sunday starts…

Sunday: I slept over my friends house on Saturday to make him feel better (No Homo) since I was going to help him. On that same day, I heard it was this other freshman guy’s birthday who goes to my school so we decided to crash it, freak on some random girls, and take some drinks. We did it. A bit similar to the movie Superbad. My friend’s party ended up to be voted as “Best Party” in the yearbook also. Also, while I was driving to a local 7Eleven, I found an unscratched scratch card on the floor. I ended up winning a good $30 dollars that night as well. Finally, after all of the dancing, drinking, games, we all ended up passing out on my friends living room floor to wake up the next day with a hangover to graduation practice.

I will remember that weekend the rest of my life. Please choose me. I wish I took some videos but I do have some pictures though. Hit me up if you want to see.

    Thanks Marina!

(We should party sometime when I slide through L.A  )

HOW DID ALX POST A REPLY TO A REPLY?? I thought only marina could do it (thats what i asked for a while back btw)

  15. When I was 16 years old my first girl friend and I were kissing passionately. Afterwards on our way home from the double date, I told my friend about the kiss with her tongue attacking mine. I was pleasantly surprised, but I had never heard of this. My friend laughed all the way home and told me that was a French Kiss. What is the origin of the name of this kiss, and in Russia, do people call this a French Kiss?

  16. Bob says: 82

I just can’t believe that Marina has got all you guys talking about the relative merits of different vacuum cleaners!
You’ll all be discussing Pampers next.
BTW, she just jumped eight places from 26 to 18 on the days most viewed pages. (I might have had something to do with it  )

I am interested in knowing more about the word “celebrity”. I have also been curious to know whether or not American’s are more star-struck than other countries. Do other countries have celebrities? Do they see American celebrities as their celebrities?

  21. pyrates7 says: 76

I would like to add the letter “Z” to your “Words Already Done List” … How about “Zombie”… I would love to know, please, where the word first showed up in history and why also, what does it really mean or is it just as simple as a re-animated human corpse that feeds on brains…LOL! THANKS!

    WORD REQUEST – ZOMBIE

    • James says: 76.1

I second that.. I requested it a while back

      • i third the zombie request. and why do they always eat brains. is itbecause theyre a bit… dumb?

well, traditionally, zombies are made out to seem unintelligent. they only care about surviving, so they only wanna eat.

in resident evil, theyre described as ‘only having the most basic of needs… the need to feed.’

i find it interesting that the need to nourish oneself is considered the most basic need. (in that movie anyways)

when in reality, humans have more basic needs programmed inside us. the need to nourish ourselves, and the need to reproduce, and the need to protect our offspring..etc

then we go further and become materialistic, ‘needing’ cell phones, ‘needing’ big houses, expensive clothing, etc.

 why did i type so much about that nonsense.. LOL

        summary:
        word request = zombie

  30. Bob says: 67

Best weekend ever? That’s difficult, as I’ve had more weekends than most other people here; so many to choose from.
There was a Christmas in the jungle, slap bang in the middle of Borneo, with lots of exotic Indonesian food and dancing Iban girls.
There was a weekend at a Thai Nature Reserve, where new bird species were appearing in my binoculars faster than I could look them up in my reference books.
There was a Fourth of July party on an ice floe north of Spitzbergen, alongside the research ship I was flying from, with a visit from two female polar bears and three cubs.
There was a couple of days, holed up with bad weather, in a remote hut in Greenland, with a party of teenage Eskimo girls. The snow melted on the roof during the night!

The weekend that started my wanderlust has to be a good candidate.
I was given the task of flying a young Formula 1 racing driver, later to become world champion, together with his girlfriend, from UK to Monaco, in the team boss’s helicopter, to take part in his first Formula 1 race. The trip involved several stops on the way for clearing customs and refuelling, and at each stop the two passengers would disappear for half an hour and return breathless and flushed of face. On one of the sectors, I taught him to fly the helicopter, which he picked up very quickly. Then he asked how many feet in a mile and asked me to climb to that height whilst he climbed into the back seat. The air must be thin at a mile high because the motion was quite erratic.
We arrived in Nice on the Thursday evening.
Friday I flew to Monaco and landed on the pier beside the team’s yacht and spent most of the day lounging on deck in the sun, eyeing up the topless tottie on the neighbouring yachts. This was interrupted only by a familiarisation flight with the Sécurité Civile helicopter, as I was to be the Ambulance standby pilot for the weekend, and a trip around the Principality for a certain well known female celebrity.
Saturday and Sunday were much the same, watching practise and the race from the after deck of the yacht.
It certainly gave me a taste for the sweet life and influenced me to buy a villa on the Riviera.
(Names have been omitted to protect the guilty and intrigue the innocent.)

However, the best weekend ever is yet to happen.
I shall pick up Marina at Marina Municipal Airport, California, and fly her in my private Dreamliner to BOB Airport on a pacific island. (Yes, it does exist. Look it up.)
Then we’ll board a helicopter to fly us to the helideck of my superyacht, moored at a remote atol. There I shall spend the weekend giving Marina her best weekend ever, pampering her and pandering to her every whim, cracking her crab claws, peeling her grapes, giving her back-rubs, applying her suntan oil and polishing her apples until she wriggles and squeals with ecstasy.

WTF?… What’s that noise? Oh damn! Bloody alarm clock again.

  32. I wouldn’t call this the best weekend ever, but one weekend YEARS ago, two friends and I went on a road trip to Greatfalls Montana. My friend, Aaron’s, Dad worked at a radio station there. When we got there he was still at work so we decided to head up to Canada, because Aaron had never been out of the state before. Well when we arrived at the boarder we were stopped by custom agents. They told us to park and come with them.
Inside their offices we were each separated and interrogated on our buisness in the great country of Canada. Aaron was called in twice since both Scott (the other friend with us) said that the reason for crossing the boarder was because of his not being out of the state of Montana let alone the country ever in his 23 years of life.
Anyway long story short (sort of) after 2 hours there we left and went up the highway till we came across some railroad tracks, got out, did some stupid things, Scott almost died, and came back.
Funny thing we had no problem getting back into the U.S.
Not the best weekend, but it was fun.

    Marina …

Having a day off is a smart move .. i think you should at the very least declare one day of your week to be a sabbath – where you’re not allowed to do any work for this site at all.

    {whisper}speaking as a suckup, i’d be content if the vid appeared every 2 days.{/whisper}

    • Speaking of Sabbath, I had requested the origins of that word. I’m sure it’s still in the queue.

When Marina does that video, then we can argue about controversial things like Black Sabbath, and what is the 7th day of rest. Check your calendar. Windows users, double click on your calendar. Saturday, the Sabbath is the 7th day, right? I think for the Europeans (and elsewhere?) the last day is Sunday? right?

OK, no fights until the video comes out. Ducks, and goes back to the corner…

      • Hey mijj, wouldn’t it be ironic if Marina did the Sabbath video on the Sabbath? Of course, Sabbath is the day for the bath, no? Can we guess what the thumbnail will be?

      • You know Karl I never really thought of it that way. The week should start on Monday.

      • aLx says: 49.1.4

i think sabbath is actually saturday. or was it monday? i don’t recall, but it was either one of them.

      • aLx says: 49.1.5

ah, sorry, you stated that in your comment, my bad. yeah, well, it depends on the calendar you’re looking at, doesn’t it. but that shouldn’t change the fact that it is actually saturday.

      • Hi aLx, yes Sabbath is Saturday and I think Marina could do a great video on that. The Seventh-day Adventists, which there are many here in my area, observe the Sabbath on Saturday. They observe it strictly. No computer meetings are held on Saturday.

      • The Sabbath is Saturday in Judaism.

In Catholicism it’s Sunday, and the Catholic Church says that it changed the Sabbath to Sunday because Christ rose from the dead on Sunday, although this change is not contained in the Bible anywhere.

Some Christian denominations observe Sabbath on Saturday (I think the Seventh Day Adventists are an example).

There is a lot of difference of opinion on the matter in Christian circles, because the Bible isn’t exactly clear on whether the Sabbath “must” be on Saturday, or whether it can be just any designated day. Some denominations are adamant about their choice of Sabbath and claim that it’s a big problem if one doesn’t subscribe to their view.

My own pet theory on the matter is that Christianity began as a Jewish sect, with most early Christians having been Jews and therefore they continued the Saturday tradition early on. As the religion grew, however, more and more Christians were living in the areas where traditional Jews resided, and hence there was competition for use of the temples on Saturday. Christianity, early on, did not have “churches” but as Jewish Christians they would be able to worship in the temples. Antipathy between traditional Jews and the newer but growing sect of Jewish Christians grew out of this, and they ultimately couldn’t be there at the same time, so they switched to Sunday because the temples were empty of traditional Jews.

That’s my own, unsupported, completely made up theory, but my experience tells me that practicalities more often than not determine what people do. And, the Bible is not clear that Christians should worship on Sundays and they didn’t originally worship on Sundays. So, there must have been some motivating force that caused them to change in the late 1st century or 2d century to a different day.

And, it seems to me odd that Muslims picked Friday…. I wonder when and where that practice first developed…. Islam is a Biblical religion and follows the Old Testament, so they have to keep some sort of Sabbath too. Could it be, that when the nascent Islamic religion took hold, they needed a day of worship when they wouldn’t butt heads against Jews or Christians — hence, Friday?

      • I was once friends with an orthodox hasidic Jew who told me about his Sabbath, which of course is from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. He had to be home before sundown on Friday, or it was a major problem with God. No work whatsoever could be done, which included everything involving labor – food pre-cooked, toilet paper pre-ripped, and no bathing or anything else – religious stuff only. No fires could be lit, so no incandescent bulbs and no driving of a car (because an internal combustion engine involves lighting small fires in the engine).

  46. david34tx says: 48

dear sweet marina!! would you investigate this word for me please? -YOGURT- thank you!!

  47. David says: 47

    Hi Marina,

    This happened a while back.

My friend and I decided to have a celebration named “the good-life! weekend”.
We packed the icebox with King Crab legs, New York steaks, lemon/garlic-butter, a bottle of tequila, some melon liqueur, limes, lemons, and other accouterments
Went to a semi-local resort in the morning to play on first-class tennis courts (we’re not exactly “first-class”). A good time, a few cold ones, then drove 45 miles to a sunny beach town and booked room at a nice lakeside hotel. Headed out to the beach with ice cold bottle of tequila etc, played Frisbee and slowly got “hammered”. Being a little bit overheated by the hot sun, we left to the car to get our cooler/icebox (”and everything else”).

Mumbling and stumbling, we carry up the stuff and start getting supper cooking. We forgot the blender to make melon margaritas… so we just “chugged” the melon liqueur. We were having a “hay-day” on the balcony of the 5th floor, tunes playing, and all the rest.

All of a sudden, some guys are banging on our room door! Hmmm… wonder what they want? It was the fire department!

Outside on the balcony was our Hibachi charcoal BBQ creating this huge smoke show and our steaks burnt. It was windy out and smoke everywhere.
It hadn’t dawned on us that “you are not supposed to be using BBQ’s on hotel balconies!”. The heat cracked the cement surface of the balcony floor.
    Oooops!

After things got settled/apologies, we ate the crab and “went on the town”.
Walking back from the nightclub after closing time, singing, we could barely stand up. In fact, we had bounced off a few store windows and cars along the way.
The cops stopped us and wanted to take us to the drunk tank. Our saving grace was that we were a half block away from our hotel.

As we got to the hotel, some guy in the parking lot was stealing a lady’s purse off of her arm. We pursued the guy, adrenaline now all pumped up, and tackled him. My friend, all dizzy, she puked on his head while had him pinned down. We gave the lady back her purse and she gave us $100.

The next day we went with our tent and camped out on the edge of another lake… no boozin’, mostly snoozin’.

  48. BillyB says: 46

Nice tour of the place, thanks. Neet & tidy (always). You can call me a freak, your tan is great (hope it’s not artificial) but you don’t film out side often enough. That little plantarium… with the wicked security (decorative) grating, if it’s big enough, would be a nice place to bang off a vid or too. I know, in keeping with the vampire thing… no long exposure to direct sunlight… enough outa me already, anybody else like outdoors stuff?
I’ll bet your best weekend vid. wouldn’t look a heck of a lot different from a best weekday vid. (not unlike mine) no complaints though.
Checked your stats. Y/T on videos watched  more than just surfing  I’m checking myself into a program for my youtube addiction… you know any good videos I could check out… to get some help.

  49. Hey Marina,
My best weekend is usually just time spent with friends and family. Since my weekend is on Monday and Tuesday It starts by going out on Sunday night to play darts (cricket none of the 01 games) and drink. Monday is the day to catch up on sleep  and bills  . Tuesday is lunch with my Dad
A weekend without friends and family is not a fun one  . I’ll end my homework with a butt load of smileys.

You don’t vacuum do you? That should be mans work. I do all of the vacuuming her at home. I have a Hoover self propelled. It pulls in forward and reverse. It pulls itself over the carpet with no effort at all. There is one catch though. I replaced all of my carpet with hard wood flooring except the bed rooms so I have only three rooms to vacuum.

Yep, with A Dyson even though certain people in this house fell over when they saw it was called “plastic steel” a very weird choice of words to describe a plastic vacuum cleaner but I do like it, mostly. It can be deadly on stairs, though, very imbalanced, worse than a Springer Spaniel we used to have when it comes to leaping on people unexpectedly or tipping over.

    • Capman911 says: 43.2

A Dyson is supposed to be the top of the line in vacuums. I like the bright colors they come in, plus it’s bagless not unlike the Hoover it still uses a bag to have to change.

      • jcr says: 43.2.1

It is a pretty decent vacuum. But the heavy old Electrolux was my favorite.

      • When I was little my step mother made me vacuum the whole house every day. She was a clean freak. We even had plastic on our future to protect it from people sitting on it. Theres clean and theres excessive clean. Best way to keep a house clean is not to live in it. Anyways, The vacuum was heavy and it didn’t pick up 2#!t. I spent many years in vacuuming stores just to go home and vacuum some more. I just vacuumed my classroom yesterday. Im beginning to love it now. Once I get started I don’t want to stop. I like the self propelled ones. Very nice. I’ve always wanted to get one of those iRobot sweepers.

      • “Im beginning to love it now. Once I get started I don’t want to stop.”
I hate vacuuming but i also can’t stop after i started  realy weird,at least for my room that is, if i have to do the living room i’m done real quikly…… :???:

    • Hi Jcr, it looks like Marina’s vacuum is a Hoover. You can see the red & white logo in the middle top of the vacuum. I have an older vacuum with a bag and I have an older bagless. I thought the bagless would be better. It isn’t. I prefer the ones with bags. I use them both. Even though they make more complicated bagless nowadays, I prefer the kiss simplicity and the ones with bags work great.

      • Mrs. Jcr said she used to have an Electrolux vacuum. I can remember when they were so expensive you would have to make payments on them. When I worked at Sears part time we would go and repo Electoluxes that people were behind payments on. I don’t know if the Ekectolux company still exists.

My best weekend ever was when our newly adopted 5 year old got here from Romania just days before they shut down adoptions there and they haven’t opened them up again yet. He got out of an orphanage and we got a wonderful son who is a blessing. He was so brave and now he is a fan of yours, many years later. The world is both larger and smaller than we think. :)

  52. I can’t remember the best weekend I ever had, but my friends say I enjoyed myself immensely, and even stayed conscious after my 5th quart of tequila. Now if I could just explain the name “Roxanne” I found tattooed on my chest the Following Monday.

I just voted until it wouldn’t take any more votes, but it would keep taking the views.
Miss M have you ever thought of doing T-Shirts with HotForWords.com logo on them. Sell them and it would advertise your site. Just think people running around advertising your site all over the world. I did this for a t-shirt I had made up for the fire service with a colorful graphic on the back. I paid $15.00 for the shirt and graphic and charged $20.00 to resell. It went into selling sweat shirts after that. With HotForWords.com on the front left above the heart and a picture of you with big letters HotForWords.Com over your picture on the back. They would sell like hotcakes. The prices may be higher in California compared to NC. Just an idea.

I can think of two great weekends I had.

First one is from about 9 months ago, when I went on a road trip from Brisbane to Melbourne, checking out some nice scenery along the way. After arriving at Melbourne, went to see the cricket Australia vs India Test Match, and plenty more sight-seeing and shopping afterwards

Second one made me feel just as tired  I went to a party on friday night, went to a LAN Party from midday to midnight on saturday, then on sunday, I went to see an Aussie Rules Football match

Sleeping is always good as well, you have my vote Marina

  55. For those who haven’t registered – voted, here is an image of the tally board of the top voted videos for the Best Weekend contest.
Marina is now in 5th position with 15 votes, with 1st position having 432 votes. The winner is chosen from top three voted-for videos.

  56. Marina,
Well that certainly looked like a great self-directed day…
I wonder about the show that made you cry.
You seem to have a thing about dogs. It must have been “Old Yeller”. It was about a old Yellow dog who did his duty(hence the name Yeller…he didn’t scream, it’s just a hick name for Yellow  ) Or perhaps “Where the red fern grows”. It was a book, as well as a movie.

My last good weekend was recent. I went to a graduation for a friend who has a doctorate in psychology (He’s actually fun! Apparently psychologists only suck as when they drink out of straws), slept in the next day (sleeping in beats waking up w/ an alarm  ). I ran on the beach and lifted weights. Finally, I got furnishings for my house. It’s nice to finally have a bed and a kitchen table.

It may not have been my best weekend ever, but the weekend of April 26 was certainly a weekend that stood out for me this year. I went up to Milford, Connecticut, to see a contemporary jazz concert that was hosted by one of my musician friends, Jay Rowe. I chronicled my experience on my blog a few days later:

I would like to request a word. My friend is having a baby soon and I was wondering who he and his wife were going to name as Godparents. Then I thought, “Hey I wonder why they are called Godparents?” HotForWords, can you investigate this?

  65. CaptainJack says: 26

Wow that was a fun video to watch Marina. I love your tea pot. I broke mine. I think it was something about mixing gravity, glass and a hard floor are a bad combination. Now I’m stuck with making tea one cup at a time. Oh well, at least that cup will taste even better.
I’m envious of your patio garden. Must be nice to pick your tea leaves fresh in the morning. I have all my teas in various tins. I like to mix teas to have a different flavor every day.

I notice fluffy walked across your laptop. My sister’s cat Axle would do that. Some times a legible word would be typed.

Boy do I agree with you on those hard core parties. I find them very boring also. There are many dance clubs in Kirkland but I just can’t get interested in them. I call them meat markets. Thats the only purpose they serve. Your lazy day at home sound like fun and it didn’t cost you an extra dime. Oh on your perfect weekend, I hope you were not waken by your alarm clock.

My best ever weekend? I don’t have weekends. I work when I need to and take a day off when I can. I try to blend my weekends with my work weeks. I don’t care to follow a schedule that is set in stone. That way if I have to work on a Saturday or Sunday, it no big deal because I can make Monday or Tuesday a weekend. I even prefer to have Mondays off. Its quieter. As for your request, I think I might do a video.
I think everyone will like it.

“Boy do I agree with you on those hard core parties. I find them very boring also.”

I fell asleep at a v. v. noisy hot sweaty thundering goth club … .. erm.. near kings cross station in london, it was (ages ago) – i still have my pass!!

      • mijj i know what your talking hard core parting lots trouble jail-hose you ask yourself why did i do that :?: :?:

      • mijj says: 26.1.2

yeh … some of us just like to sit around with a nice cuppa an’ relapse.

I gotta say tho, those goths, when they do themselves up, sure do look incredibly amazin’ – but you really need tons and tons of high energy for those clubs … and that means filling yourself up with druggy-wuggies – otherwise you dont stand a chance of keeping pace.

    • Cap’n Jack: try Dragon Well tea. It’s a Chinese tea that’s top quality…it’s like a better quality Oolong tea. Less bite, more tea-like goodness.

      • I think you mention that tea to me before. I forgot to stop by that new tea tasting shop in Seattle last time I was there. Im sure they would have it. I need to get my tins refilled. Im getting low. It cost me about $200 dollars to refill my tins. I guess Im a bit excessive. I have to blame Maria (co-worker from my cruise ship days) in getting me started in intermediate tea drinking. I was just using store bought herbal teas. Now I won’t touch the stuff. You don’t want to know how Lipton Tea is made. I have this large treasure chest I used to store my tea making stuff in. Maria used this old makeup case for her tea. Thats where I got the idea of using a treasure chest. So I guess Im becoming a tea snob as Maria puts it. Damn her!

      • Yeah, I don’t think I’ve ever told you about it BUT great minds think alike  Actually, people at a Chinese tea farm recommended Dragon Well to me, so you know it has to be good.

What’s this about blaming a coworker:shock: Surely you’re not going to blame your own tea-snobbishness
        (Pardonne-moi…Connoisseur wisdom & preferences  )
on an innocent bystander who merely exposed you to the tangy zip of great tea

How DO store-bought teas get made :?: Do tell

    • mijj says: 21.1

ok .. lets do this properly the Marina way by breaking it down and analyzing it …

Oth – ‘oth .. thoth .. egyptian god of writing
isis .. egyptian lady god of something or other
notare .. notary .. someone who witnesses signatures
alworditis … some kind of disease – fear of all words, perhaps
      just .. merely
anatt … an ant or gnat, perhaps
      emptto .. empty
      loo .. toilet
      ksm .. chasm
      art .. art

It looks like it’s a word describing the fundamental chasm between the god-like ideals of the written form and the tiny ant-like expressions of those who are emtpy of art

Dear Marina, you looked wonderful in your strapless blouse, and those other nice, colorful outfits during your weekend. I’m not too interested in the “College” movie. As an ROTC student, I wasn’t part of the “Fraternity System.” The Army had other work for us on weekends and summers.
For your homework, my best weekend ever was during a Signal Corps assignment to tour the high-tech movie and TV studios in Burbank. They had the latest and greatest in video and audio eledtronics, there! What was truly astounding was that the clerical staff in the major studios were all young, slender, talented, extremely beautiful young women! They knew how to type, take shorthand, manage paper, and they all could speak and act eloquently! They had perfect smiles and perfect figures and were happy to show this young Signal Corps soldier around. (Good thing I’d just got paid.) I remember a drive to a great dinner at Madame Wu’s Garden Restaurant in Santa Monica and a wonderful evening back in Burbank! I doubt if I now have the energy for another weekend as active as that!

Marina .. how come you don’t do a forum as well as the video threads?

Obviously, the thread associated with the video is the essence of your site … but a forum would be useful for related/tangential discussions that die because they don’t get lost in the thread or die when a new video turns up, etc . … and … a forum would be useful for announcements … and … erm … other stuff.

    … just wondering.

    • mijj says: 15.1

turn the hose on the dogs as it were.

      • mijj says: 15.2.1

oh .. yeh .. i agree that the video threads should run their natural course.

I was thinking more about when there’s a spinoff that gets people talking .. but it gets lost within the long long thread.

as well as the video word topic, there are loads of topics in language that some of us might linger on in a forum, … or a place to hang about in that doesn’t get in the way of someone looking at the video word stuff.

… if you see what i mean.

      • mijj says: 15.2.2

… or .. maybe you’re right .. maybe there’s not enough energy to keep a single minded discussion going for more than a day or so.

    • I’m actuality looking into something like that for the glossary page.

      • mijj says: 15.3.1

i guess it’s about effort as much as anything else.

It’d mean a new set of forum software and the effort to set it up, and people to administer it.

A load of headaches, i guess.

      • You hit the nail on the head with that one. Marina is already working 7 days a week on her lessons. Hence her latest Lesson Take a hint, I need a break video.

You should be ashamed .. standing round and watching poor li’l M struggling with all that hard work while y’all laff and point.

      • Oh that’s what those are for. I guess the do look like chains. I hear they are her boy toys. She just drags them around to play with. She keeps them locked up in the other room. I hear them claw the door late at night. Kobe is the only one that has free rein around the house.

Miss M does most of the work around here. Im a 98 pound weakling. I can’t even pick up Kobe.

Only so much work one can do being 1150 nautical miles away. Most of the time is spent on the commute just to bring her a cup of coffee in the morning which I’ve been slacking in the past weeks.

Oh I hear her cracking the cat of nine tails again. I have to go..

I was looking at it as a place to discuss Youtube technical issues with other YouTubers… and it might be good for you guys to continue your discussions.. but then I worry about it splitting everybody off into clicks. This un-moderated freewheeling thread is fantastic. As you say, it keeps things fresh and it is almost as immediate as a chat room.

woah!! .. yeh . i agree .. this thread is exactly right. This video based thread should not be replaced.

My suggestion was not for a replacement, but an extension .. like a coffee bar where you can get settled.

I get the feeling there are (to oversimplify) two kinds of visitor ..
.. hit and run – who are drawn principally by the vid and react to it
.. loungers – who like to hang n stuff

I think the loungers (i.e. me!) would appreciate somewhere where it’s a little easier to continue a spin off discussion and not get lost in the turmoil of a very busy thread. If i’m the only one though, it’s going to be lonely in that forum.

However .. would something like that undermine the current format? .. I don’t think so, because a new vid would draw out anyone hanging in the cafe.

Would a cafe-like addon forum type thing get enough attention to survive? … dunno …

I don’t want to provide a convincing argument for something that might be damaging for the site. Alternatively, I would like to suggest something that might be helpful for the site. I don’t know which this is.

note .. anything i say should be taken with a pinch of salt because i’m just a baby in this site.

I noticed the spurious apostrophe in “I worry that BBs are possibly passé” but i was skeered to mention it in case i was mobbed.

      • aLx says: 15.4.7

they’re not passé, they never will be. something like a forum is more or less the core of internet communication. there a billions of forums out there. for a good reason.
this structure right here on this site is a forum structure. so … no, they are definitely not “past heir prime”. if they are — all wordpress sites are, too.

if they are “past their prime” and blablabla … how come there are gamer forums (this is weird, they’re the ones with the most up-to-date stuff, right?) … even the new york times or avril lavigne have a forum. how about youtube? what the hell do you think you’re doing on youtube when you leave a comment? guess what — you’re using a forum!

      • The last time I used a BB was when everything was DOS. I think Windows 3.0 had just came out. I don’t know if you were asking for suggestions or ideas, but to me this is the best way to go is to stick with a forum. Now I am giving away my age.

… (not suggesting there should be a forum like these here .. just .. you know … {does the french shruggy thing} … showin’ they can be useful.)

[limp lefty UK newspaper site: Guardian Unlimited]

[extreme right US rabble rousing site: Free Republic]

        [english language pravda forum]

and .. just to throw it in the pot …

        [phpBB forum]

        - i think the pravda and phpBB ones have the most clear structure. … the other ones are too messy.

      • “They have forum software that I am looking into.. they haven’t updated it to work properly with my current upgraded website.. Oh well then I better stop. I was going to propose phpBB to you. I played around with it years ago. It has that Wordpress feel to it when your working on it. Its powerful and it has a good price.
I was thinking the same thing as you about that it might split people off from the lessons and form Cliques. I was going to post my thoughts on this for Mijj but I decided what the heck do I know. I could be dead wrong on this. We have so many off topic discussions on the lessons anyways that might help clean up that kind of chatter from the lessons. Some people have mention to me that our chatter is clouding up the page. Like what Im doing right now. Still the comments on the lessons are like a home base page for contacting everyone. So I think it might work out. Also you could incorporate a ‘glossary’ to the forum. Maybe you could do a 90 trial and see if it works or hinders the users.

The little colored dots are like indicators of rank or status.
      You are at level 1a-ss
no color box or colored dotted line
As you move up through the ranks,
Different color lines to colored boxes then to TA.
It’s the journey that makes you great.

    • 1a-ss no more I am a out cast. I am not ranked anymore.

Too funny, Marina.  Anytime ‘best ever’ is used it can/should be fun.  I have a friend who has the habbit of saying “best ever” all the time, i.e. “Oh, that was the best steak ever…That was the best concert I’ve ever been to…Best weekend ever” , and in truth it’s contagious & endearing & fun. No way am I (can I!) say best weekend ever, there have been too many, and the best is still floating out there somewhere in the future.

Wait, scratch that; there was one weekend when we were 19 and sailed to Catalina Island. We were total gentlemen & behaved with complete honor but still we drank all we brought, all we bought, and all we were given. Avalon, the Isthmus we lived to excess; and then, of course, there was the hat & the broken flip-flop. My friend’s dad saw one of the pictures & sold the boat 10 days later.

    • I was once called the best teacher ever. Of course, a first grader doesn’t have a lot of past teachers with whom I can be compared…..

    Marina
Got to love the way you make your bed, just like my
boy (21) just whip it up to the head board and good enough.
You poor thing, you need some pictures for your place.
Maybe a wall of fans. People could send you their
pictures and you hang them all over one wall in you Apt.
Tabasco is the best anyone that likes Tabasco is OK by me.
