I read recently that dolphins (porpoises, that is) sleep with only half their brain at a time, so technically they don’t sleep at all.

In South Africa, the word is pronounced with a hard g, and the vowels are shorter. It sounds like gear-off. The accent is on the second syllable, too.

La Dolce Vita sounds to me like the sweet life. There is a Mexican (Spanish?) dessert or flavor called dulce de leche, which is sweet milk. It usually refers to rice or pudding, but is also a popular ice cream flavor.
In Costa Rica there is a popular phrase, La Pura Vida, which I believe means the good life.
