I have a question. Which sex more attractive in getting attention for say advertising? I would guess a woman more than a man. I think a woman has more appeal to both men and women than a man.
Hi CJ, I guess there will be adverts one day with a beuatiful woman in the shower advertising cat food or something! When pulling pints of beer in a local pub a few years ago now, the landlord always claimed that boobs sell more pints over us humble blokes. Women are more attractive than us fellas in anycase so they get my vote! At a car show once, Citreon had a dozen girls on a cat walk leaning all over the cars. No guessing where most of the guys were, not even the usual super car manufactuers could get any attention away from there. Either that makes us blokes shallow or just red hot blooded cavemen or women somehow experts in selling, or both! Thankfully Marina has that beautiful way about her with tonnes of cleverness too. To think about, if Marina were to advertise cat food in the shower, I would probably go out and buy a cat on auto-pilot

my guess is it depends on the emotional response they’re tying to induce.
buzzword (i think) some time ago posted a link to a talk about love and how it affects the brain. In one part it noted that they way women talk to each other is different to teh way men talk to each other. Women look at each other straight on while they talk. Men talking: one man talks and looks at the listener, while the listener looks away.
My guess is that when men look at each other there’s a subtle domination thing going on.
So .. for ads where a man is making a point and a man is hte viewer .. the viewer’s moved into a mindset of aggression and challenge. – I guess this is useful for selling stuff where the angle is you buy the stuff to prove you[re a real man. – cars and .. erm .. power tools, i guess.
well .. that’s my wacky theory.

I guess that angle doesnt work for women because they dont automatically go into defensive or domination mood when looked at straight in the eye.
oh .. and maybe that’s why women do better when making vids, because they’re not handicapped by the challenge thing when looking into the camera .. maybe guys are nervous looking into the camera because their primitive instinct is they’re setting up a challenge mood.

I think there might be a lot of facts behind them. I think your right about the primitive instincts we still use today.
So a bunch of hunks laying on a car is not going to draw any attention or the wrong kind, but put women on it and it might draw much more attention.
Most commercials can be categorize under one of these three, Sex, Power or Motherhood and I guess we can add Humor. It’s these emotion they are appealing to. Test this theory next time you watch one on TV, find the heading to assign each one.

Advertisers depend on emotional ties to their product &/or logo in order to be effective, so they present emotional stimuli designed to make their product more attractive in some way.
The ONLY thing I would add is that there are many commercials based on evoking fear or anger as well…for instance, political ads, insurance ads, medication ads, etc. They might ALSO include the happy funtime moments, but there’s definitely that fear/anger that’s built on the front end

Many people say that McCain picked Palin because she is female. I don’t think it has anything to do with sex appeal, though.
Many people think McCain picked Palin to sway voters in the middle and those who were Hillary supporters because it gives opportunity to a woman…well, to be more precise, Palin is an Ultra-Conservative female politician.
Interesting enough, polls say that McCain’s approval ratings have improved, with a special increase in approval from Caucasian Females.
Does that mean that the strategy will “work” to sway voters who truly don’t like Republican politics? I’m hoping not, because I Republicans are driving our nation into the ground and McCain will keep on driving if we vote for him.
