Difficult to answer without creating a discussion of writing ( purely symbolic ) and proto-writing with pictographs. Given that definition I’m not sure where Chinese ( and the Chinese derived Japanese ) would qualify. Surely Egyptian Hieroglyphics would be proto-writing. Mayan may be considered writing as would Rongorongo from Easter Island.

Marina, I saw Michelle’s blog about the 24 Podcasting Links and your comment. Her description of HFW was extremely acrid.

I don’t know if you saw my comments following yours on the other blog site regarding “10 Podcasts for Writers” by Dustin. I asked him a similar question as yours and he answered me. In short, he said that he wants to make his site amenable to all kinds of writers including Christian Ministers. Maybe Michelle is emulating Dustin? I am highly bemused.

By the way, I started a textual project many months ago regarding what might be called, “left handed compliments.” Progress is slow as I am researching lots of ideas. I’m sure that you will be pleased when I finish the project.

I’m with pedantickarl on liking the ancient historical references on this video :)

The word abyss made me think of the breed of cat known as ‘Abyssinian’, and its origins.

There is speculation of its historical origin. In appearance, this breed of cat resembled the paintings ad sculptures of Ancient Egyptian cats, where in those days, the Upper and Lower Egyptians had a religion centering the worship of animals, of which the cat became one.

Homework : My guess would have to be Eden. As soon as I heard the ‘lost paradise’ reference I figured that this is the most likely answer.

I was wondering about the origin of ‘Valhalla’. Valhalla was a place where vikings who died in combat (that were chosen by Odin) go upon death. They were then led there by Valkyries to to join the masses of the dead who died in combat. I always liked Norse Mythology for some reason.

Great video by the way

Wonderful video and rated it 5 stars on YT. I also enjoyed the ancient historical references and the homework assignment.

Homework: Eden (Heaven, Union with the Divine)

Extra Credit: How does one cross the chasm or the abyss to reach heaven or paradise? The abyss is the divide between individual ego and cosmic consciousness. In other words, the divide between the higher and lower states of existence.

The abyss is the abode of the serpent. The only thing that crosses the abyss is our consciousness where the soul must conduct itself along the narrow road leading to union with God through Love.

“For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life,
and there are few who find it.” (Mt 7:14; “The Dark Night of the Soul“)

Since Paradise is of Persian origin, it probably referred to The Garden of Eden.

However, Carl Linnaeus named the genus Paradisaea (Birds of Paradise) in 1758. Was it because of the birds’ location in the jungles of Indonesia? Or could he have named them because of the painting, Paradise by Jan Bruegel?

I would like to know where the word “movie” came from. I have a bet with my brother that I know.

The peoples of ancient Mesopotamia* also believed in an earthly paradise named Eden, located somewhere in the east. According to some ancient sources, the four main rivers of the ancient Near East—the Tigris, Euphrates, Halys, and Araxes—flowed out of the garden. Scholars today debate the origin of the word Eden. Some believe it comes from a Sumerian* word meaning “plain.” Others say it is from the Persian word heden, meaning “garden.”

Ref. http://www.encyclopedia.com - The Garden of Eden
Other cultures have other concepts of Paradise:-

Adiri, Ama-No-Hashidate: , Asamando, Asgard, Astral Plane, Avalon, Bralgu, Chalmecacivati, Ching Tu, Chinvato Peretav, Dilum, Djanna, Elysium, Fortunate Isle, Gwenved, Happy Hunting Ground, Hawaiki, Inkolwe, Isle of the Blest, Kevala, Khun-Lun, Ki-Agpga-Pod, Kotluwalawa, Land of the Moon, Lewu Liau, Limbo, Mizumu, Moksha, Mormon Heaven, Mount Kailasa, Mount Meru , New Age Afterlife, New Jerusalem, Nirvana, Otherworld, Sheol, Summerland, Tain, Tamoanchan, The Pole Star, Tlalocan, Tum and Valhalla.

    Ref. Global Oneness
But paradise refers to the place one is supposed to go after death, and not to the place where life is supposed to have started.

But what is life to Live with out Women? Hell is separation from God after all ;) or…not coming to paradise…hotforwords.com

nakedbullwinkle replied on October 6th, 2008 6:48 pm:

Hello there, I live near Eagle River, Alaska. Did you go up to hatcher’s pass to see the gold mine? You would have driven through Palmer, ak on your way. If you went to mount mckinley, you traveled through wasilla which you may have heard about in the news lately. that valley out there the matnanuska valley. I kayak often and have seen the best sunsets and sunrises since moving here in 2000. I took a bush flight around mckinley and was literally speechless. my pilot and her plane about a year and a half later was killed with several passengers on a trip up to mckinley. it is not uncommon for bush flights to crash even with the most experienced pilots. there have been about half a dozen at least of bush plane crashes since I have been here and have no plans to take another flight any time soon. To give you and idea of what alaska is like and drastically differenet from the lower forty, my neighbor suprised me yesterday standing in his driveway in the rain. I thought something was wrong and asked if he was okay. well, he was taking a break. I laughed and thought who takes a break in their driveway..gravel…in the rain. well, a car hit a moose earlier the previous day and he got a call on the moosekill list by the alaska state trooopersl. you can sign up and when a moose gets hit by a car, you are called and asked if you want to come and harvest the meat. well, he was butchering his moose in the backyard and half of a moose, head and upper body, hanging on a hook underneath his deck. he had already cut off the legs and the lower body was gone and was completely gutted out and just his upper half body and head with horns was hanging. it was quite a sight with buckets of meat and fat and guts. it was cool and there were no flies or bugs so was a perfect time to gut a moose outside. he was taking the meat to a local butcher to make burger meat and will donate it to the local church…good burgers. That was my sunday here in alaska. the heart was huge. so, hope you enjoyed the story…take care…

It was such a long time ago now, I was just out of high school. Thanks for the story… I remember going downtown Anchorage with my friend from the Okanogan, Jack. We were propositioned by hookers, met a pimp that looked (and dressed) like Grizzly Adams, asked by an Old man without shoes, to go get his shoes back from a Bar (saloon) that he’d been kicked out of (real rough crowd). I was surprised, back then, how much like a stereotypical American “big city” it was downtown… Got outa there as quickly as possible & went to visit with a girl that I’d met in Oregon, a year previous.
Just got back from our long weekend trip to Long Beach. I prefer the “out of the city” getaways, probably why I enjoyed so much, that trip, to the great state of Alaska. Too bad the Canadian gov. sold it so cheep… like the Avro Arrow , leadership had so little forsight, pity.

Dear совершенная Marina, That is the most beautiful video of yours! For your homework, we learned that the Garden of Eden was where Adam and Eve lived after they were created by God, from the Book of Genesis.
Shangri-la, a mystical valley in the novel by James Hilton in his novel, “Lost Horizon” printed in 1933. The people in Shangri-la live harmonious, happy, very long lives because they are so good.
It’s based on the Tibetan Buddhist concept of “Shambhalha, a hidden city of peace, tranquility and happiness.
In Josef Stalin’s Russian government, “the Worker’s Paradise” was used to describe the perfect society they were creating under communism (and if you didn’t agree, you were imprisoned in the gulags.)
In California, there is a town called Paradise, located in Butte County, north of us. Also, there’s a city called Paradise in Russell County, Kansas.
Some of us try to create our own paradise. I think that being with you would be a wonderful paradise, Your dear student, seesixcm6
