HI ! MARINA
I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND THE ANSWER TO THE FOLOWING QUESTION FOR THE LAST 30 YEARS !!

Here is a good word, I’d like to hear Marina pronounce this one. I also believe it is the only word with five, (count them), 5 vowels in a row. Less hyphenated words.
I was actually hoping to avoid that one – for fear of offending her, as I look at these vids as a gift of herself that she gives to us as she pleases, rather than as we beg for them… but perhaps she might enjoy our pleas for more…
Hey I have a word request……I want to know where the term “shenanigans” comes from. I use it all the time and don’t really know anything about it. If you could investigate….that’d be cool.
hi marina, i watch your beer lesson & i was wondering beer comes from the latin bibier (sorry if my spelling isnt correct) but in spanish a latin language beer is cerveza so where does cerveza comes from?
Hello Marina i must start off to say that there’s not one video of you on YouTube that i have not seen ever since i have subscribed to you’re page. One word i see that’s not in the W list is a term i use a lot and people also. Where did the term Woke up come from unless that is the correct form. Thank You in advance and keep the words coming.
HI Marina could you please investigate the phrase cold turkey. Like when someone gives up a addiction. Sometimes people say it for bowling perfect game
I request Acetylseryltyrosylserylisoleucylthreonylserylprolylserylglutaminylphenylalanylvalylphenylalanylleucylserylserylvalyltryptophylalanylaspartylprolylisoleucylglutamylleucylleucylasparaginylvalylcysteinylthreonylserylserylleucylglycylasparaginylglutaminylphenylalanylglutaminylthreonylglutaminylglutaminylalanylarginylthreonylthreonylglutaminylvalylglutaminylglutaminylphenylalanylserylglutaminylvalyltryptophyllysylprolylphenylalanylprolylglutaminylserylthreonylvalylarginylphenylalanylprolylglycylaspartylvalyltyrosyllysylvalyltyrosylarginyltyrosylasparaginylalanylvalylleucylaspartylprolylleucylisoleucylthreonylalanylleucylleucylglycylthreonylphenylalanylaspartylthreonylarginylasparaginylarginylisoleucylisoleucylglutamylvalylglutamylasparaginylglutaminylglutaminylserylprolylthreonylthreonylalanylglutamylthreonylleucylaspartylalanylthreonylarginylarginylvalylaspartylaspartylalanylthreonylvalylalanylisoleucylarginylserylalanylasparaginylisoleucylasparaginylleucylvalylasparaginylglutamylleucylvalylarginylglycylthreonylglycylleucyltyrosylasparaginylglutaminylasparaginylthreonylphenylalanylglutamylserylmethionylserylglycylleucylvalyltryptophylthreonylserylalanylprolylalanylserine.
That word has appeared in the American Chemical Society’s Chemical Abstracts and is thus considered by some to be the longest real word.
Two chemical terms (3,641 and 1,913 letters long) have appeared in the Guinness Book of World Records. They were withdrawn because they have never been used by chemists, and there is no theoretical limit to the length of possible legitimate chemical terms. A DNA molecule could have a name of over 1,000,000,000 letters if it was written out in ful
Actually: pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism is the longest known word in the english language.
Although: pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis was once thought to be, but it has been since found to be a hoax.
I have a request – although its more of a phrase than a word (if thats okay?) – anyway: Tell me about the phrase “Knowing him (or her) in the Biblical Sense”
Now, I gather it is a way of stating that two people have had sex – but I’m puzzled about the “Biblical Sense” part. When and where did such a phrase come into being?
This has nothing to do with anything on Marina’s site, nor does it even need to be re-posted by a normal person, but I am not normal…
I was looking up surveys and this is the crap that is online. LMAO.
Penis Length Survey
Men are notorious liars about their penis length, so I have devised the following foolproof test.
Disrobe and stand by your keyboard. Rest your left testicle in the rounded hollow on top of the “1″ key. Rest your right testicle in the key immediately below that (the Q key on a standard keyboard, probably something different on the Dvorak keyboard. You lumberjacks may have to use the A or even the Z key).
Grasp your thing in your right hand and slap it firmly across the number key row on your keyboard. (For instance, my result is “1234567890-+” the backspace key removes the `.)
Place a copy of the June, 1981 Playboy open to the centerfold at a distance of 2.5 feet. Rest your thing on the keyboard and stare intently at the girl pictured for five minutes or until your feet leave the ground. Repeat the above test.
Please post your results to net.general and I’ll summarize to everyone on the net by personal mail.
Cautions
Do not attempt this test after swimming. You will skew the results.
Black men may wish to use a special extended keyboard; or place two keyboards end to end.
If you try this test on a public keyboard, you may want to swab it down with alcohol first.
On some keyboards, severe sparking may result. Be sure to keep a fire extinguisher handy, and DON’T BE AFRAID TO USE IT.
Remember, Larry Bud Melman is not an attorney.
Incidentally, this test can also be used to diagnose some genital disorders:
Test Results Diagnosis
1 You suffer from Short Penis Syndrome
12367 You have a strange gap in your penis
12efgbn Your penis has a right hand bend; sometimes called Jerker’s Lean.

Hey Animalntaz click on your monster Gravatar you have now. It will take you to http://WWW.Gravatar.com. There you will use the same email address as you used on Marina’s site to subscribe. Once you have registered at Gravatar they will guide you rest of the way through the process of uploading your picture to make a gravatar. It should show up after about fifteen minutes. If it doesn’t then you’ll need to clean out your cache. “ie” history, cookies, old files, etc. Refresh your page a few times and see if that will bring up your new picture. If you need more help let me know.
Now if you want to attach you YouTube site to your name so it will turn blue like mine then go to the dash board at the top this page. Open it and go to your profile. Under your gravatar name will be a place for a web address. Just put in your web site or utube site in that box and it should work for you. Just copy and paste to that section of the dashboard.
Hey Marina,
We’ve been enjoying some glorious Indian Summer days here in New England lately, which, naturally, brought up the question, why is it called an Indian Summer? We (everyone in New England) did a little research online but couldn’t come up with a satisfying answer. It’s gonna take someone as hot for words as you to unravel this little mystery!
oh .. you just subbed … … i was all paranoid that you hadn’t subbed because i wanted you to sub in return and you were all huffy about it .. etc etc .. so .. maybe i was jumpin to conclusions … sorry
Just a funny, (albeit morbid), internet site that kinda fits the subject; RIP.
Thou Shalt Not Steel
2008 Darwin Award Nominee
Confirmed True by Darwin
(8 March 2008, Czech Republic) Steel is valuable, especially the high grade alloy used in steel cable. Scrap metal dealers do not ask questions. They pay in cash. And a good supply of cables can be found in elevator shafts.
This particular goldmine was a towering shaft inside an empty grainery near Zatec, 40 miles northwest of Prague. The cable was tightly fastened, and the far end of it disappeared into the shadowy distance above.
After substantial wear and tear on a hacksaw, our man finally cut through the strong steel cable. At that instant, the counterbalance, no longer held in check, started to move silently downwards, accelerating until it reached the bottom of the shaft.
Result: one proud winner of a “terminal velocity” Darwin Award.
R.I.P. [Oops, I meant "Requiescat In Pace"]
http://www.darwinawards.com
Named in honor of Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, the Darwin Awards commemorate those who improve our gene pool by removing themselves from it.
Your very good at these, keep them up as it adds to the liveliness and fun to the site. Mijj does his games and you come up up with good little articles.
woah! .. let’s not get ahead of ourselves!! {.. is skeered …}
we’re talking baby steps here .. i just figured how to create filenames including “000″ “001″ “002″ .. “032″ “033″ .. etc,
instead of “0″ “1″ “2″ ..”32″ “33″ .. etc.
so now i can save files from in psp script that can be read in in an orderly manner into other progs.
still havent done any pic processing … long way to go yet.
Horror pictures aren’t my “bag”, although in my stoner years, i appreciated “Night of the Living Dead”, and the “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” series, of which the TCM2 with Dennis Hopper was my favorite. But, the most eerie film would be, “White Zombie” (1932) starring Bela Lugosi. You don’t have to be afraid.
For me, it would have to be ‘The Omen’ with Gregory Peck and Lee Remick. (I was 16 when I saw it in the theater in 1976.) I came out of the theater waiting for the earthquakes to start.
In answer to your question – Exorcist – also Phycho was good.
But reactions to this vary a lot with the individual and also your age and changes in your perspective on life. Things that I would have scared me in the past don’t now.
My two oldest sons when they were younger had widely differing reactions to potentially scary films. One would be freaked out by ghost stories – but the other just though it was great to be allowed to stay up late and liked the story. However, the one that wasn’t scared about ghosts was freaked out by things like Alien while the other just thought of it as a good sci-fi movie.
well … seven will be tomorrow … (cos i have to figure how to use Python scripting in Paintshop Pro … i wont be doing anything complicated .. but those first little steps are always time consuming)
+ frosty Enumerator ..
… well .. originally i wanted to call myself zOz .. but YouTube wouldn’t have it … so i tried Enumerator .. cos that’s what i would be doing .. and YouTube didn’t like that .. so i stuck “frosty” on the front (as in the opposite of hotfor) .. and it finally accepted my offering
i have the “music” for 7 done (cept for level mixing) .. so that ent strangling the process .. tho this time i will test the low bandwidth version of the output to avoid embarrassment this time.
python “brackets” together chunks of code, not by brackets, but by how far it’s indented.
… well .. “that’s fine” you might say .. all you have to do is look at it and you can see how it’s chunked up ..
.. however .. python distinuishes beteen tab indentation and spaces indentation.. so .. even though they look the same, they’re not treated the same .. so if by some chance you had spaces and tabs mixed up in the same doc, it all messes up, even though it looks identical!!
While watching the Exorcist a Tornado hit he building I was in.
It was during the part of the movie when the peacher was walking toward the bedroom and the door was jumping up and down. .
I can remember thinking; Holy cow!!!, these special affects are really somthing. It nearly scared me to death.
Hey David that sounds about like when I was on the fire department and one of our rescue squads was going on a call emergency traffic. The driver turned a corner and had to dodge a car in front of him and hit a mobile home and knocked it off the foundation or cinder blocks. The funny part is that the couple inside was having sex and felt the world move. The man in the home flung opened the door naked and said WTF is going on. We all got a big laugh out of that cause we figured he would sue the city in nine months for a baby he didn’t want.
can you do the fruit orange. why is it called by its color and no other fruit or vegtable is. is it because there were no other orange fruits or vegtables when they named it. Or did htey discover the orange after they named allthe other fruits and vegtables and were too lazy to think of a name so they just called it by its color?
I came out a while back, but I forgot about it. I picked it up off of a friend’s site. It was very funny, and way over the top. Thanks for looking around in the cob-webbed recesses of my playlists.
I am making some desktop/wallpapers of Marina. For now, I have them posted in ‘PhotoBucket’ but am going to get them all together and ask Marina to put up a small section for them on her site.
This is just a test wallpaper, and they will only let me place them at 1024X768 but they will work fine on most screen resolutions.
This is the first of many, let me know what you think. MARINA WALLPAPER
My avatar is actually a picture of Pauley Perrette from the show NCIS. I used that picture when I was blogging on all these political sites, “Think about it”, (pointing to the brain).
I was just too lazy to get another picture. And in case anybody is interested, my screen name, ‘qtrtilldawn’ was chossen long ago when you were only allowed 10 characters for screen names and while goofing off online, I noticed it was about “fifteen minutes till sunrise”.
Fairly dumb, but thats my story and I am sticking to it!
Hey Qtrtilldawn, I have the Gimp program to make photos from videos. The only problem is I can’t figure out how to get rid of the frame around the picture. Could you give me any help?
To be honest, I don’t know the Gimp program. I looked it up and will check into it, but no guarantees.
I had a form of Abode photoshop from a web hosting company, ( a freebie), and a while back my hard drive smoked. I lost everything, and it doen’t work now unless I re-install it.
Now, just recently, I installed some video players to play around. One was this: http://www.veoh.com/ for a friend of mine that wanted to watch TV online. BTW, thats where I found “Hot For Words”.
It is a HD player, (at least as high as my monitor), and as “Alex” above said, it really is just a screen shot. Notice the letterbox lines on top and bottom of the pic’s.
It seems to be safe, but it does run in the background and tries to take over all videos and even some flash ads, so it will lock up on some web pages. Just turn it off before you surf.
I’ll play with that Gimp program and see what it’s all about.
I had to change the transmission fluid on my van yesterday.
It’s a messy job.
That video was like looking into a mirror when I was done.
(Unfortunately not the tight and toned Marina part)
Homework
I’m not a fan of horror movies, but the scarest one that I saw was the Birds by Alfred Hitchcock! When I see a sea gull I always think of that movie!
HI,
I have a request.
Could you do a video on the meaning and origin of “clusterfuck”. I’ve seen it used on blogs, and in videos, as a noun and a verb.
So, by my understanding, I am to click the coComment thing before submitting my comment in order to be aware of replies. OK here goes:
Hey, mijj, perhaps somewhere in your story line, could you find a way to ressurrect me, so I am not a chost any more…. take your time, I think I can last until Halloween…
Hola teach … With all these advertisements for president and other political offices airing I was wondering where the phrase “My name is [so and so] and I approve this message” came from and why the candidates started stating this. and where does “so and so” derive from to mean someone???
Thanks Love!
ok guys .. i think we need to invent a back story for Video-Marina and her sidekick, Kobe .. we need to prepare for the animated tv series which, i believe will be done in the visual style of Scooby Doo.
Alright… idea failure #1… Nemesis: Marina’s evil twin sister, who, with her criminal genius has built a time machine and gone back in time to destroy the English language… word by word. But to taunt her good and virtuous sister Marina, aka Hot For Words, the Protagonist accompanied by her faithful word-sleuthing clue-hound Kobe, she leaves clues to the word she is attempting to destroy. Finding the final clue and correctly choosing the right word will recall said evil twin to the present.
In her rage and jealousy of the fame and affection she feels was hers by right, Marina’s evil sister (yes, played by Eddie Izzard) has kidnapped Marina. Her purpose is to dispatch her sister and take over as the “real” Hot For Words. But to add insult to injury she taunts Marina by doubting the efficacy of her role as teacher. She will release Marina… IF… a team of her best students, an elite cadre, can use their logical, etymological, and other skills to discover a series of clues and solve a word origin that will reveal Marina’s location… but there’s a time limit. If the origin is solved, but late, Marina perishes in anguish. Also, notifying the authorities will also spell doom for the fair Russian lass. They will have to do this alone. This evil sister doubts such a team can match her criminal genius, but does keep tabs on them, just in case. Unknown to the students, the evil sister has no intention of releasing Marina… I mean, come on… she’s evil.
The team’s core consists of five students: Captain Jack: Leader of the team — move aside Captain Morgan Capman911: Fellow TA, with fire suppression and life saving skills, and Captain Jack’s right hand man Miss Cupcake: Espionage and Infiltration — Wigs, false teeth, doggie socks, and acting and voice skills make her a woman of many disguises (besides, every team needs a token babe) James: The junior member, armed with a digital camera, an MP3 player with a crappy headphone cord, sarcasm, and a rapier wit
and Pedantic Karl: no one’s been brave enough to ask what he does, but he’s been around forever
Assisting the team is a Special Guest Student — to be determined later (Teacher’s Pet, First Post, Bribery, whatever) and that loyal companion, the before mentioned word-sniffing clue-hound, Kobe — armed with whimsy, playfulness, and a catastrophic “cuteness overload”
i think an exciting story would be if Cartoon Marina and her sidekick travel the country giving lessons to children (such as ourselves). And everyone thinks she does such a good job that she gets a medal from the President.
Thanks Kaibanator… and yes, we do have a bit too much time on our hands.
Now… like in the Olympic games I watched in my youth, I’m worried about what we’ll get from the Russian judge.
I don’t know for sure which movie is the scariest. I had dreams about two of them, one was when I was little. It is an old movie called “The Island of Terror” today it probably isn’t scary but when I was little it kept me up most of the night. The other one was “Jaws”. I guess the idea of being eaten got to me. “Nightmare on Elm Street” was scary but I didn’t have dreams about.
I wouldn’t say I’m scared by any horror/slasher movies, but the sound effect for the chick ghost from The Grudge haunted me for weeks!
American horror doesn’t phase me anymore. Is not being afraid of the ghost stories from ones culture a bad thing?
Japanese ghost stories scare the living bejebus out of me though. These Ju-On are not like American Ghosts. American ghosts are merely disturbed resonances from the past. Japanese ghosts, on the other hand, are vindictive spirits with a vendetta to unleash. Not only do they murder those who come into contact with them, they will follow you wherever you go. Unlike American ghosts who are ’stuck’ in the structure they are trapped in, the Ju-On have no such boundary.
It’s quite something when you need seek from another country and culture to find that which strikes fear.
Word Request: the word Vendetta, it’s such an interesting word!
Coming up on the spooky time of year…
Election time! Update: McCain used
the “false splitting”, by saying the USA
needs a new direction – OY!
I called that one…!
Homework : A movie that scared me…
…thats easy… Jaws
i have a [version 2 of the 6 six vid]
.. i cleaned up the audio cos it was so horribly muddy .. i hadn’t allowed for the difference between the quality of sound from within my music prog and the result of compression when up in youtube.
Since I see that I am becoming so active in commenting, I decided to give the coComment thing a shot. Still is like a pair of uncomfortable shoes, but I’m hoping it will be better than constantly refreshing the screen and checking for replies to my posts. Will let you know what comes of it
actually … i think you’re right .. it wasn’t that bad before .. the difference is more aesthetics than awfulness. .. but still .. the brighter simpler sound version suits the visuals better.
Oh Yah… The Night Stalker TV series where Darren McGavin stars as hard-nosed reporter Carl Kolchak who investigates all kinds of spooky stuff… I was young… it freaked me out!
Maybe that’s her sister’s name… Marijuana Orlova
hehe… sounds like I spilled gonja on the floor…. “Aww man, now there’s marijuana orlova the carpet… damn!”
I guess the scariest movie is a scary one seen at the most impressionable time of life, i.e. childhood. As kids, my sister and I buried our heads in the back seat of the car in a drive-in showing of 1951’s “The Man from Planet X.” One of the actors in the trailer will be widely recognized for his long career in TV.
I saw a movie once after school called Trilogy of Terror. Three short stories, one of which was about a real scary looking “voodoo doll” that a lady brought home. It came alive and started chasing her around the house and it moved extra fast. The doll even got a small knife from the kichen and tried stabbing her through the space underneath the bathroom door. I can’t recall how it ends but I’m sure it wasn’t good. What I do know is, I’m not looking under the bed before I go to sleep tonight.
Ok, I found a clip (part2) if you want to see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rhe2OeUiQ1Y , part 1 and 3 are also there if you want to watch the whole thing….ok, I just got goose bumps and freaked myself out. I gotta go!
Yeah, Pagedoll – that was one tenacious little guy! I tell you what – I am a ghost, so I can fit into places only a vapour can go, so…
{performing a thorough sweep of Pagedoll’s residence, strategically placing sprite traps, just in case…}
OK… I found [THIS GUY] messing about under your bathroom sink, but no sign of voodoo dolls or any other creatures of goose-bump-inducing reputation. Sleep well!
Anyone ever been to the London Dungeon? I visited this attraction when I was 16 and it gave me the creeps.
Hey Marina, where do we get “dungeon” from? As a historian I usually see this word in reference to a tower. How did it become associated with an underground prison and torture chamber?
Homework: I first saw ‘The Wizard of OZ’ when I was 2 or 3. Gave me a phobia of winds, cyclonic storms and vortices. I learned to step out of the bath before draining the water, and to close the lid before flushing the toilet. Then I saw ‘The Omen’ series of movies…
I came to enjoy experiencing the irony and horriffic twists of sci-fi and fantasy shorts like ‘The Twighlight Zone’, ‘The Outer Limits’ and ‘Night Gallery’, but never the gory ones or ghost stories like ‘Poltergeist’ or ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ and the like.
Those freaky flying monkeys from Oz disturbed me… Hey, maybe Buzzword could dress up as one for Halloween… a seasonal avatar, er gravatar.
Here we have a pic of Marina’s evil sister commanding her maniacal monkey minions to assault Marina’s Library Fortress and Keep in the capitol city of Etymologia… by the sea. Proof indeed of that nefarious sibling…
funny – they had little if any impression on me. I instantly recognised the ‘human form in a funny costume’ even at that young age. It was the stuff I didn’t understand that got me. Interesting how different things affect different people in different ways.
I notice a lot of people listing ‘Jaws’. This one I really don’t get. I didn’t care for the movie, never even watched it in its entirety, but still cannot muster up fear of something so easily avoided as a shark.
Correct, Che, I would certainly be scared in that situation, but my point is that I would never have the necessity to allow myself to BE in that situation.
I was watching an advertisement on tv, which featured waffles. So I was wondering why if the word waffle is meant to be a food, then why does it also mean to speak or write in a vague and wordy manner?
When I was like 9 years old, American Werewolf in London scared the crap out of me. But now I love Werewolves, soo much so, that I’m designing a back peace tattoo of a Werewolf…
Yeah, those “dream” sequences and morphing scenes were intense. The lead man talking to the corpse of his dead friend is morbidly funny to me now, but was sure scary when I was young.
Agreed, now as an adult it’s more of a comedy. But the crackling of the bones and the detail of the morphing, at least for the times technology, was too much for me at that age. Now I love films like Van Helsing and Underworld.
I like them for a certain actress… va va va voom! Amazingly, the first film I ever saw her in was a Shakespearean play (Much Ado About Nothing). That aside, I appreciate it when a playwright or screen-writer has a story to tell, not just a series of special effects and splatter scenes. In this Underworld does well for me.
There is no violence shown. The mood and atmosphere are structured in actors’ raw ability to convey terror and in the bleak color scheme of the visuals. Definitely not for the faint of heart.
May he rest in peace…….My random on this day of rest and onto work…OMG…Are movies nothing but [propaganda]; and I believe that we write our own lives like a scary movie

Cervaza comes from a bottle, can or draft barrels, some like to put a lime in it.
i would like to request the phrase “cat’s game”…like in tic tac toe, when nobody’s wins. a lot of people call it a cat’s game..why is that?
Hi Marina, I would like to know the orgin of the halloween can hot for words investigate? Thanks
She may still do it but Halloween’ is a condensation for the ‘Eve of All Hallows’. November first is All Saint’s day, or All Hallows day.
I have never seen the exorcist but the exorcism of emily rose was pretty scary.
Sometimes people say it for bowling perfect game
come on, Marina .. it’s time you presented a vid wearing an overcoat.

Yes it is a word.

Hello!

Thanks!

My penis, as measured tangentially along the center lateral location, from tip to trunk is about 130 mm fully erect.

Okay, I definetly need help with my gravator. I got the image I want, but how do I activate it to this site?
Help!
I mean I have it for my own e-mail address… but what EXACTLY do I have to type in for this site.
Does it matter if I’m using the public library computer? Because I’ve already selected an image for my e-mail address at that gravavtar site.
No, it doesn’t matter if you us another computer. The two sites are listed under your email address your gravatar looks good.

Марина, it seems that my governor is also an excorcist:

That example above is good enough reason, but it really pays off when you use it on a web site to stop spiders from searching your site.
They also have one like that for your email addresses, same reason, keep the spammers from finding it.

Named in honor of Charles Darwin, the father of evolution, the Darwin Awards commemorate those who improve our gene pool by removing themselves from it.

Requesting the word “areola”.

Soooo we’re waiting for number seven
what up wit tat, Frosty
& why Frostyenumerator?
well … seven will be tomorrow … (cos i have to figure how to use Python scripting in Paintshop Pro … i wont be doing anything complicated .. but those first little steps are always time consuming)
+ frosty Enumerator ..
… well .. originally i wanted to call myself zOz .. but YouTube wouldn’t have it … so i tried Enumerator .. cos that’s what i would be doing .. and YouTube didn’t like that .. so i stuck “frosty” on the front (as in the opposite of hotfor) .. and it finally accepted my offering
i have the “music” for 7 done (cept for level mixing) .. so that ent strangling the process .. tho this time i will test the low bandwidth version of the output to avoid embarrassment this time.
i tell you what tho ..
i hate Python….
python “brackets” together chunks of code, not by brackets, but by how far it’s indented.
…. grrrrr …
Why is YT censoring your names unless they have already been taken?
i dont know .. i dont think it was taken .. maybe it was a restriction on common words or words of a certain length.
I don’t trust Tiny url. But if you have a Ford truck they are built tough.

That’s a good idea Chev Olay. Just like Marina did the 200 videos on the dogs.

Now, here’s a scary movie about how Marina keeps so fit.
If that’s detention then I want to be there.
That is not fair. No way he can loose
I’d say that is more enjoyable than scary.

How is it that you can just get hotter every single day?
I think the scariest recent horror movies include the Saw films.
Back in the day, I thought Phantasm and Evil Dead were great horror movies. But, I wonder if they’d have the same effect now?
Oh, I’m a fan of the Evil Dead series. I posted a few of my favorite links of the second movie on Marina’s “Halloween” lesson.
Phantasm was disgustingly creepy.
If you love looking at Marina,
I am making some desktop/wallpapers of Marina. For now, I have them posted in ‘PhotoBucket’ but am going to get them all together and ask Marina to put up a small section for them on her site.
This is just a test wallpaper, and they will only let me place them at 1024X768 but they will work fine on most screen resolutions.

BTW, what did you think about the wallpapers?
That actress is quite pretty. I love the character she plays on NCIS… very funny, her interplay with Ducky.
I don’t know how to rate the work. The subject is beautiful, but far too distracting to be my wallpaper
i wouldn’t call it “wallpaper”. more like “screenshot with ‘hotforwords’ on it.”
Here are a few more; MARINA screenshot with ‘hotforwords’ on it3, MARINA screenshot with ‘hotforwords’ on it4

Hey Qtrtilldawn, I have the Gimp program to make photos from videos. The only problem is I can’t figure out how to get rid of the frame around the picture. Could you give me any help?
Mike
Hey Capman911, saw you over at YouTube today.
Thank you for the help. I love your Garvatar. I like Pauly on NCIS one of favorite shows.

I had to change the transmission fluid on my van yesterday.
It’s a messy job.

… With all these advertisements for president and other political offices airing I was wondering where the phrase “My name is [so and so] and I approve this message” came from and why the candidates started stating this. and where does “so and so” derive from to mean someone???
Thanks Love!
Dear teacher
i have a request.. .TO WELSH ON A BET….where does this saying come from because im WELSH….thank you
It’s “to welch on a bet”; nothing to do with racism at all.
ok guys .. i think we need to invent a back story for Video-Marina and her sidekick, Kobe .. we need to prepare for the animated tv series which, i believe will be done in the visual style of Scooby Doo.
So she’s Daphne?
noooo … she’s not a character from Scooby Doo .. i mean the animation’s done in that low-skill style they have.
Idea Failure #2: Eddie Izzard plays the part of Marina’s evil sister.
Idea failure #3: Scratch the time machine…
The team’s core consists of five students:
Captain Jack: Leader of the team — move aside Captain Morgan
Capman911: Fellow TA, with fire suppression and life saving skills, and Captain Jack’s right hand man
Miss Cupcake: Espionage and Infiltration — Wigs, false teeth, doggie socks, and acting and voice skills make her a woman of many disguises (besides, every team needs a token babe)
James: The junior member, armed with a digital camera, an MP3 player with a crappy headphone cord, sarcasm, and a rapier wit
and Pedantic Karl: no one’s been brave enough to ask what he does, but he’s been around forever
Assisting the team is a Special Guest Student — to be determined later (Teacher’s Pet, First Post, Bribery, whatever) and that loyal companion, the before mentioned word-sniffing clue-hound, Kobe — armed with whimsy, playfulness, and a catastrophic “cuteness overload”

jeez .. has it been going that long?
O yeah… long time.
Dez, you should patent that “idea failure #1″; it would make a brilliant idea for a Hotforwords boardgame.
Well, I went with the simple and cartoon-ish motif…
i think an exciting story would be if Cartoon Marina and her sidekick travel the country giving lessons to children (such as ourselves). And everyone thinks she does such a good job that she gets a medal from the President.
I don’t want any president meddling with Marina. Especially not if he’s like
ClitonClinton. Can I make a valid point in question? With out lowering the tone but, who gets to be Shaggy?
The Australian judge gives you guys a 9.5 for imagination. Deducting the .5 for having a bit too much time on your hands
Thanks Kaibanator… and yes, we do have a bit too much time on our hands.
Now… like in the Olympic games I watched in my youth, I’m worried about what we’ll get from the Russian judge.
Believe you me: there are no flies on you!
Thank you, goddess.

That was a really well put together video and request marina.
Now.. What could I requests as for halloween to be done in that vampire voice??? hmm…… What about………. Witch
& for scariest movie, Shutter, the THAI version.
Asian horror is really frightening.
Hi Marina! Loved it. I think you’re great!!
How about why some people call a spiderweb a cobweb? Where does that come from?
It’s also a Halloween-type word and since it’s close….
Hope you have a great week!
What about American foreign policy, or American economic policy?
I thought vendetta was an Italian motor scooter.
I had a ride on the back of one once. Now that was scary.
It is a great movie also V for Vendetta. I watched it the other night an it was a great film. I still haven’t figured out who played the part of V.

i hadn’t allowed for the difference between the quality of sound from within my music prog and the result of compression when up in youtube.
[version 2 of the 6 six vid]
.. i cleaned up the audio cos it was so horribly muddy ..
we live an’ learn!
I didn’t think it bad at all before, but note the significant improvement.
yeh .. i think on the original, because of the way the compression works, the bass was flooding everything out, especially towards the end.
good learning experience for me .. i need to take into account the foibles of the compression processes when producing stuff. (both vid and audio)

Hi Marina,
My blonde girlfriend thought RIP meant Real Icky Place!
Scariest movie was The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.
Oh Yah… The Night Stalker TV series where Darren McGavin stars as hard-nosed reporter Carl Kolchak who investigates all kinds of spooky stuff… I was young… it freaked me out!
Hey Dave, on the post below I though you said Narco Chips not Narcho Chips
Don’t forget … Kondom des Grauens aka Killer Condom
Hi Marina: Where does the phrase “as sure as eggs is eggs” come from?
Reefer Madness
Scary government propaganda film on the evils of Marijuana
I know what you mean. At one point, I dropped my joint right into my bag of nacho chips. oooohhh!
surely you mean …
Scary government propaganda film on the evils of Marijuana
Maybe that’s her sister’s name… Marijuana Orlova
hehe… sounds like I spilled gonja on the floor…. “Aww man, now there’s marijuana orlova the carpet… damn!”
Boy you guys are witty, must be a contact high
I guess the scariest movie is a scary one seen at the most impressionable time of life, i.e. childhood. As kids, my sister and I buried our heads in the back seat of the car in a drive-in showing of 1951’s “The Man from Planet X.” One of the actors in the trailer will be widely recognized for his long career in TV.
Oh, and don’t forget RHIP, widely practiced in the military and naval services of all nations.
I gotta go!
*WORD REQUEST*- Goosebumps
Yeah, Pagedoll – that was one tenacious little guy! I tell you what – I am a ghost, so I can fit into places only a vapour can go, so…
{performing a thorough sweep of Pagedoll’s residence, strategically placing sprite traps, just in case…}
OK… I found [THIS GUY] messing about under your bathroom sink, but no sign of voodoo dolls or any other creatures of goose-bump-inducing reputation. Sleep well!
It’s JAWS!
Salem’s Lot with David Soul….think it came out in 1973 or so
Couldn’t sleep with the lights off for days after…
That was a good movie.
I’ll add to that list with:
The Exorcist
Nosferatu
I saw both of those fairly young.
When I was a little kid the theme music for the Twilight Zone gave me the creeps.
Anyone ever been to the London Dungeon? I visited this attraction when I was 16 and it gave me the creeps.
Hey Marina, where do we get “dungeon” from? As a historian I usually see this word in reference to a tower. How did it become associated with an underground prison and torture chamber?
Word request: Fly-by-night
Halloween related words:
Tomb
Mausoleum
Spirit
Spook
Yea, those monkeys scared me also
funny – they had little if any impression on me.
@Fianchetto’s Ghost, when you’re out on a kayak and a 20 foot great white swims next to you….you only wish you could avoid it.
…now that’s scary
Correct, Che, I would certainly be scared in that situation, but my point is that I would never have the necessity to allow myself to BE in that situation.
I’ve heard the word Init b4, but idk what it means OR where it comes from
…do u know
I was watching an advertisement on tv, which featured waffles. So I was wondering why if the word waffle is meant to be a food, then why does it also mean to speak or write in a vague and wordy manner?
Hi Marina could you please investigate. The saying hey that guy is a flim flam man. Or that woman is a no good rip

Dear Marina,
My vote for best horror movie goes to “Blair Witch Project”.
http://www.blairwitch.com/
There is no violence shown. The mood and atmosphere are structured in actors’ raw ability to convey terror and in the bleak color scheme of the visuals. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

Can you tell me the origins of the names Rachel and Rae?

You got me thinking of TV personality, Rachel Ray.
