If “maverick” simply means “independently minded”, then I guess a lof of us would say we are mavericks. However, I’ve always thought of it as meaning someone who is not just independently minded, but a “bit of a loose cannon” as well, someone who a senior or other person in a position of authority would find difficult to trust. If that is a fair shade of meaning, then I guess a lot less of us would be happy with the title “maverick”.
