Link to specific spot in a YouTube video!

YouTube just added a really cool feature that I think many of you will find useful.  That is the ability to link directly to a specific point within a video hosted on YouTube.

You do it by appending the following code at the end of the YouTube video URL: “#t=02m20s”

So, a url would look like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fZ5bYfErdk#t=02m20s to go to the spot at 2 minutes and 20 seconds in.

It’s important that you use two digit numbers, ie: 02 for 2, otherwise it will not work.

You guys and gals often link to YouTube videos in the comments section to make a point.. and this way you can be even more specific if there is a spot in the video that really makes your point :-)

So, give it a try.. I’m curious to see what you come up with :-)

    Check out this guitar solo:

  3. I have only noticed an issue using viewer plug-in’s that will not allow the jump to time indexing. By opening the YT link in a new tab, no problems have occurred.
The issue of using two digits in the place fields for the time index (eg t=02m08s vs t=2m8s) does not appear to be a problem. Single digits seem to work just fine.

  4. Marina, thank you for the wonderful technical update. To see how this works, here is a dialog between Marina and me.

The links should all open up in a new window. If not, Right Click on the link to open the video in another window so you won’t lose your place in the dialog.

Just listen to the first sentence of the video, then pause it, and then come back here to continue with the dialog.

    Marina asks:

    PK:
“Of course I do. Why do you ask?”

    Marina says:

    PK:
“I think the Munsters could adopt it, don’t you think?”

    Marina says:

    PK:
“What would you like to do about it?”

    Marina says

    PK:
“While you are thinking about it, what do you think about me as a student?”

    Marina says

    PK:
“That’s a nice. Say bye bye Marina.”

  6. Marina,

I assume this would be the start time. Is there a way to add a stop time, as well? Halloween song Witchy Woman?

Hey Ilikesexytime, you may not want to post your email address on a public forum like this. As companies have spiders or programs that find emails addresses and spam you like crazy. Just a little tip for you to help you in the future.

Is there any way to just get a range of time in a video? So far, it starts where you select, and then continues to the end. Perhaps all I might want is a 5-10 sec clip.

re: these useful ref threads of yours, Marina ..

.. is there anyway you can collect them them together in a way that’s easy to find? .. ‘cos the link to this thread is going to disappear from the “recent posts” list and it’s going to be hard to find.
