    Ooops!

Now that you are friends with Paris from those good times in Cannes, this could be embarrassing…

But really not so – I have always seen her as very Smart, with a lot of Brains.

She has just chosen to use them to promote a [vapid] and shallow image that a LOT of young people seem to think is cool, and emulate. Famous for ‘Partying’, looking hot, etc.

You Marina, on the other hand – show a cool, and INTELLIGENT, and sexy image that I think serves as a far better role model and example in world society. The reason ‘role model’ is important is because you communicate the ACTUAL things that are important in life – not the things you’ll be embarrassed about and want to forget as you get older.

She has bucks because her family does, then because she generated fame by promoting being vapid and selfish, and has been paid huge amounts of $ for acting so.

Every dollar you are getting is [EARNED] in an honorable way through being a decent person, being extremely professional, and working hard. Keep showing them how it’s done.

Paris seems to be changing a bit now from what I see.

Maybe knowing people like you will be a good influence on her!! ;-)

I have found a new word that seems to be one letter shy from your longest word. It is an ingredient in the shampoo I use.
    The word is:
    Methylchloroisothiazolinone
I am guessing it is an active ingredient and is some kind of cleaner. I am also assuming that there is a base of alcohol, but what else is in this? It doesn’t sound like some thing I want to be putting in my hair…

    • Not smart enough to give a bj and not on camera…that is not a camera Paris, that is a new lamp…say cheese

      • I think what our friend bobsully is trying to say is that though she is an heiress of a huge fortune, she seems to have amassed a fortune of her own by pretending to be stupid, doing foolish things, some intentional, perhaps others not so intentional, but still achieving some degree of success based solely on her own merit, or appearance of demerit…

      • or, the american public is too ignorant to raise their standards of television or cable viewing and makes her look smart making money off  stupid viewers :?:

      • My point exactly, just the opposite angle. Personally I have yet to view a complete airing of any of her performances (whether scripted or candid) – each time I do, I can actually hear the sound of my IQ falling and feel the need to change the channel or turn off the radio/tv for fear of losing too much. Still, I can’t believe that she can possibly be as stupid as she portrays herself, but rather that there are enough people out there to be entertained by it to make it a cash cow for her.

  60. What are the origins of the word “Insane” come from, and why do we have “in” before “sane”. Does “in” mean oposite?

  61. interpretty says: 89

    Privet HFW,
Why do you think bra is singular and panties are plural? ; )
Also, did you know that “nemets” in Russian first meant to refer to any foreigner not only Germans cos they didn’t speak much Russian and were like “nemoy” (deaf). Maybe you can do some Russian video just for your comrades, say, on the occasion of October Revolution?
I watch your videos at every chance I get. You are fantastic!!!It would be great if you could say a word about origin of accents some day. Would love to know your opinion. Could be a funny video too with you mocking at some accents.

  63. Philosophy. Philo = Love but what is sophy. so i want to know what the meaning of philosophy is.

    • Dezdkado says: 87.1

Philo is Greek for “loving”. Sophy comes from the Greek word “sophia”, meaning wisdom or knowledge. Philosophy is the love of learning and wisdom. Sophia is seen in other words, like Sophomore. Combining “sophos” (wise) with “moros” (foolish, dull) we get the paradox “sophomore”, the wise fool.

  64. shane says: 86

I’m curious about the origins of some idioms I’ve heard over the years:

Kick the Bucket – When did this start meaning to die?
Cold Shouder – Being rude to someone
Going Dutch – splitting the cost of something
Nook and Cranny – every possible place
Everything but the kitchen sink – huh?
Heebie Jeebies – giving me the creeps
In a jiffy – do something quickly

    • While she has already done Going Dutch

I am also curious of the others, particularly ‘kick the bucket’ – as a paramedic, I responded to several suicides by hanging, with a bucket or stool as support until the individual kicked it from beneath himself to complete the act, but I’d be willing to bet that Marina can find a more likely origin.

  65. Fianchetto says: 85

Can you please explain the origin of the word “Oligarchy”?

  68. m3v4n says: 82

    DOPPELGANGER ; DEAD RINGER
    ———————————-
Hi Marina, Can you please do the origin of the words “doppelganger” and “dead ringer”? do these two words mean the same thing, or are they different?

  69. tok-715 says: 81

    Dear Marina,

Don’t worry about zombies, my beautiful brainiac. My mission is to protect you.

Come with me if you want to live.

  70. tok-715 says: 80

Nice work on the word “Zombie”, even though I’m quite aware of where it came from already.

In reality, so called zombies are actually a variety of people. Some are just mentally retarded individuals, whereas those created by witchcraft are in fact created from otherwise normal humans with the help of puffer fish poison based potions.

Puffer fish, known as Fugu fish by the very people who “enjoy the taste of death” (Japanese cuisine), contains potent neurotoxins not created by their own bodies by rather through accumulation of neurotoxins from their normal dietary intake. Unsurprisingly, the deadly concentration of the toxin is in its liver tissue. Fugu connoisseurs are known to enjoy extremely small slices of liver (well calculated dose that’s well below fatal levels) for the extra “buzz” (i.e. the feeling of numbness) it gives.

Thanks Marina for another quality video. Still waiting for “Hitman”.

    • Dezdkado says: 80.1

Being made a zombie is a serious punishment among those who practice Voodoo (Vodun). The intake of TTX (tetradotoxin, found in some, but not all, species of puffer fish) is only the first step, and does not create the zombie all by itself. It creates the illusion of death. Persons who have been paralyzed through the punitive ingestion of TTX are then buried (as they appear to be dead)… unable to move, though completely alive and aware. After a few days they are exhumed and fed another potion which contains atropine (to partially counteract the paralysis) as well as hallucinogens to make the “zombie” delirious and disoriented… The victim becomes easily led, and is forced to perform simple menial tasks. The victim’s belief system, socialization, sensory deprivation, and subsequent hallucinations are what create the zombie. TTX is just the first step in zombification.

      • Yes, but zombification is a religious punishment. The hashish eaters were experiencing a religious recruitment campaign. Both involve religion, both involve a false death experience, and both involve drugs. However, the victim of zombification is usually voluntarily submitting to correction. The prospective new assassin is taken by deception.

      • tok-715 says: 80.1.3

Excellent work to you too Dezdkado, since I had didn’t have the time to give a more complete explanation as you do. Tetradotoxin is the active ingredient used to depress the neurological system to such an extreme level that the subject appears clinically dead but in fact isn’t. They’re just slowed down to an extremely slow state.

  71. Marina, it occurred to me that Paris Hilton is the utter antithesis of you in probably every way imaginable. Snide, elitist, egomanical rich bitch who was born into wealth vs. intelligent, charming, clever LADY who is obviously busting her ass to build something really special for herself. I admire you so. Would love to meet you one day. And for what it’s worth, that skanky wench doesn’t even exist in the hotness realm over which you preside. Love you and thanks as always.

  78. Dezdkado says: 72

Marina, what is the origin of the phrase “By hook or by crook”? A shepherd’s crook is a type of hook. Does this phrase come from herding animals? Is this from vaudeville, wherein bad acts were removed from the stage by a large hook-like device? Does it refer to hookers and criminals… perhaps saying that a particular mark will succumb to whatever means are necessary, be they flattery, feminine wiles or thievery?

    Dear Marina,

On watching this scary lesson again I observed Kobe waiting patiently at the door – apparently needing a quick walk outside – and then suddenly he vanished! Is he a zombie too?

Also, the second best Zombie movie of all time (in my humble opinion) is Zombies of Mora Tau with the truly great Bill “Tiny” Baskin. What’s you favorite?

    Thanks, Q

  114. Hey, I just noticed the Zombie Strippers ad above. And I’ve met Jenna Jameson, a few times at a strip club, a little over 9 years ago.
There isn’t much detail to brag about or anything. I was going through a really depressing phase in my life, so I was looking for anything to cheer myself up by attending her shows. But it really wasn’t anything worth remembering… just a lot of money wasted. (No, I didn’t cross the line or anything. I was like any other costumer.)
Motley Crue was also there visiting for one night. I walked past Vince Neil and his band members a few times.

Hey Marina. I was wondering, to keep up with the theme of Halloween, could you please explain to me ‘banshee’? I think it would be a good word for one of your videos, and a lot of people wouldn’t have known of the word before!

    Thank you!

  119. This is going to be a little creepy:
