The Georgian lobby’s carefully orchestrated media campaign to spin the Georgian invasion as a heroic act of self-defense is now coming completely unraveled. OSCE monitors, assigned to watch the volatile region, report that the Georgians fired first – and that the alleged “shelling” of Georgian villages that was supposed to have provoked the all-out Georgian assault on a civilian target did not in fact occur. Ryan Grist, the senior military officer in the OSCE group, testified:
…
“It was clear to me that the [Georgian] attack was completely indiscriminate and disproportionate to any, if indeed there had been any, provocation. The attack was clearly, in my mind, an indiscriminate attack on the town, as a town.”
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has obtained evidence suggesting that documents which have been described as technical studies for a secret Iranian nuclear weapons-related research program may have been fabricated.
… surely the US govt would never stoop to fabricating evidence in order to start a war .. would it?

“Marri was whisked to a Navy brig in Charleston, S.C., where he has spent more than five years. His case raises a question with vast implications for presidential power and civil liberties: Can the military indefinitely detain, without charge, a U.S. citizen or legal resident seized on U.S. soil?”
It’s times like this that I’m glad that the US Constitution was amended with the Bill of Rights. History tells us that many in the Constitutional Convention believed these explicit rights (like the right to a speedy trial) to be “self evident” and that adding them to the Constitution was unnecessary. Others argued that without these explicit rights the state would oppress its people.
As I recall, the military cannot hold a citizen unless the alleged crime was committed on specific federal property (a base). Even then, the defendant has Constitutionally protected rights and is usually handed over to the Federal Police, such as a Federal Marshall. The only way to remove such rights is to remove citizenship. A legal resident, who is not a citizen, has no such guarantee.
Doug Thompson, publisher of Capitol Hill Blue, says he’s talked to three people present last month when Republican Congressional leaders met with President Bush in the Oval Office to talk about renewing the Patriot Act. That act, passed by legislators who hadn’t read it, in the immediate aftermath of 9-11 (when most people were shell-shocked and lawmakers in particular disinclined to use their brains), has of course been criticized as containing unconstitutional elements. All three GOP politicians quote their president as saying: “Stop throwing the Constitution in my face! It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!”
Petrolia is an isolated little town in Northern California, this area is one of the strongholds for hippie culture.
Make perfect sense that a liberal journalist would live there.
I got to hang out there some years back and it is wild, beautiful, rugged, just as nature intended it to be.
I found it amusing one day in the general store the hairy leg mothers would call their children with names like, Moonbeam, Morningstar, Sunshine & Cosmic Ray.
Obama plans to bring the Guantano detainees
to the US. I guess they’ll be freed to live here.
It’s ok with me – I am prepared. As for the rest
of you (infidels); best get ready for the jihad!
Here comes the change we were all promised
my bet is, it’s the step needed to get the detainees some kind of investigation and court that’s not politically directed towards getting particular results.
Yes. This is a particularly ugly situation. US military personnel that undergo a military tribunal are protected by the US Constitution as well as the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice). The Gitmo detainees are protected by nothing… even the Geneva Conventions seem to have been circumvented by defining the captives as non-military.
You’re all missing it. When they are tried
and convicted and sentenced to execution,
Obama will pardon and free them here in
the USA. Grant them asylum. My view is
that each state should pass laws now to
prohibit participants in unlawful combat
against th US from living there. The only
place they should be allowed to live should
be limited to the Washington D.C. area
Better in his neighborhood than mine, or yours.
UCMJ and Geneva do not apply to these
guys. They are not eligible for protection
under any US law, as they are not citizens.
Any attempt to do so will result in mistrial,
and they will be immediately released on US
soil. Past detainees released from Gitmo
were killed later in combat, having returned
to the fight against US forces.
Dirka dirk! Jihad Jihad! Be prepared for
messy show trials. And who will pay all
of Obama’s expensive attorney friends
for this? I guess the schools won’t be
getting any more money for awhile…
The mistake Bush made was capturing
them alive. Oh well…now it’s Obama’s
turn to make even more! And he PLANS
to do it. I wonder what other plans he has?
“A committee of the Continental Congress met at Tun Tavern [Philadelphia, PA] to draft a resolution calling for two battalions of Marines able to fight for independence at sea and on shore. The resolution was approved on November 10, 1775, officially forming the Continental Marines. As the first order of business, Samuel Nicholas became Commandant of the newly formed Marines. Tun Tavern’s owner and popular patriot, Robert Mullan, became his first Captain and recruiter. They began gathering support and were ready for action by early 1776.”
“The United States Marine Corps is a direct descendent of the British Royal Marines, who were founded in 1664 [October 28]. Many Americans served in the ranks of the British Royal Marines before the American Revolution. In 1741 King George II ordered the formation of several British Marine Regiments; four of those regiment were formed from men of the colonies. They were commanded by the governor of Virginia, William Gooch. For this reason, they were known as “Gooch’s Marines.” They fought against pirates and in Britain’s wars with Spain. These Marines were also often used to settle territorial disputes. Although Royal Marines and American Marines were to meet in opposition on the field of battle, close ties remain as we often serve together throughout the world.”
With all of its faults and all of its blessings, I love my country and countrymen… but much more those who have served, be they military or civilian. But it is a respect for shared history, not political beliefs, that led me to give tribute to the Royal Marines.
Being a Navy Veteran and serving on a battleship, I have a very close connection with the Marines. They are like brothers to me. Neither force could exist without the other. Happy 233th birthday!

We live our lives dependent on others, for companionship, for Love, for happiness.
If we are to be happy, we must be happy with the person with whom we already live – US.”
This goes back to what BillyB was saying on the “My Calendar” page.
However, I believe that the intent of the verse in the Samurai’s Creed is to preach self-sufficiency and interdependence.
Remember the words of the song Wandering Star, that Lee Marvin sang in the film “Paint Your Wagon”,
Mud can make you prisoner,
and the plains can bake you dry.
Snow can burn your eyes,
but only people make you cry.
If we live our lives being dependent on others for, not just companionship, Love, and happiness, but also to help us complete out work and fight our fights, then sooner or later we will be disappointed by someone letting us down.
Mijj will confirm an old Yorkshire proverb, “If tha needs owt doin’, do it tha-self”, or in current language, “If you want something done well, don’t depend on the standards of other people”.
That is what the item “I have no friends” in the Samurai’s Creed means in my opinion. It warns against dependency on others to achieve your goals, but it doesn’t mean that we cannot have friendly social interaction or productive co-operation with others – we are social animals after all.
My best friend is my little dog Sammie, she is a good reliable and trustworthy friend I Love me some Russian woman ha ha ha ha there is your Russian woman
YO stokesjakoff relax! what is your problem? Why are you comparing my pet dog to a beautiful Russian woman or any woman of any nationality? Are you into bestiality or something? I think you owe our teacher, me, my dog, and all women across the world an apology. Man up and lay off the vodka!
chickenh0use YO I don’t owe anyone any apology since your the one trying to pass the dog off as your best pal. Women aren’t dogs and dogs aren’t women although you would like to think they are.
Dear Teacher, I ordered your calendar last week and can’t wait to get it, I hope I am one of the first 100 but I kinda doubt it!
My best friend is my little dog Sammie, she is a good reliable and trustworthy friend. That is hard to come by! Oh well,

Hey there labbatt78. I know the Chicago Blackhawk team looks good. But how about Bobby Lu (aka Borat on skates) Three games in a row , no goals allowed & going for more.
Did you do the “Elvis thing” for halloween?
Oh yes 3 and counting. No I did not even dress up for Halloween. I wish I did.I also had to work that day also. And yes I saw the blackhawks douse the flames earlier tonight.
Dear HotForwords. While out for breakfast with friends this morning, one of us used Tobasco sauce. As Dennis used it, he said “I wonder how that word Tobasco originated”. I immediately thought ah, could there be a hotter word for HotForWords?
I used to make “Chernobyl Wings” at a golf course pub…
take a box of Habanero… ( habañero” [1]) is one of the most intensely spicy species of chili peppers) and boil them until soft… then puree them into goopy sauce… mix with freshy fried chicken wings… THEN WATCH THE TEARS FLOW!
Dear Marina,
I have read a very interesting academic article about definition of “friend” by Anna Wierzbicka. (Do you know her? She is a very famous linguist)
The definition of “friend” is quite different from culture to culture. According to her, the definition of “friend” for Americans is so broad while that of Russian is so narrow. So if you think you have many friends in America, most of them are not really considered as friends in Russia. Funny huh?
When you need a friend they are hard to find when you don’t need one their thy are you can easel judge the carrotier of a man on how he treats someone that can’t DO anything for him
I was considering applying myself a couple of years ago, love the ‘Bob’ images and all, but only recently learning the joy of slackdom, will apply once I get my speech-recognition software back up so I don’t have to exert as much effort in filling out the application…
Perhaps then we could have a double wedding, taking turns between groom and minister. I propose we choose who goes first by coin toss. Then after our initial ceremony, decide who’s next to marry by multi-round Russian roulette – “winner” to be married posthumously, of course…
Thanks for the free beer. My slaves drank it all and left before the duties were performed. Now I’m free to beg for work. Free friends has no number. Good job
@Che, I do not actually make anything; I stock overnight and sell electronics. I know, It is a sellout to “corp. America”. it does pay the bills. Oops, gotta be there in 32 mins. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fu-CZugsQQ&feature=related
Time to make…
I have made the acquaintance of many people on friendly terms in different worlds, however, given the continual unexpected “gypsy moves” along my life’s path, I have only a few true friends. This is just right.
Actual friends, the ones you can count on for almost anything, I guess only two. I also have 3 other really good friends, but I don’t think I could count on them for anything. Everyone else is just an acquaintance.
@capman, right now it is chugging along at about 2 min per page. I’ll not mess with anything until it finishes this print (I’m finally on the flipsides). I guess I will check the drivers in the morning after work. Any suggestions, pls reply to one of my many comments, and I will check them in the morn’. Thx.
That was what I was going to suggest was the drivers. Go to your printers web site and see if they have a newer driver for your printer they are free for download. My Windows Vista will loose the driver for my HP printer ever so often. I’ll delete the printer in the printer section and Windows will reload another HP driver for me. Could be your printer is just getting tired.
Driver issues? DriverMax4 is out. It’s free.
You can scan your system drivers and update
fairly quickly. It also is able to ferret out any
unidentified devices and provide drivers for them.
Works very well with XP and Vista
Hey my father inlaw is a door greater at Wakmart where I live. He has done it for about 15 years now. He is retiring from there in January so he can keep his health care benefits.
well .. i’m not too bothered about seeing the person. I watch vids with a friend near Boston and we text chat through them and we dont need to see each other.
the weird thing is the sense of ghostly alienation you (meaning “i”) get with the twitter observation of Marina .. very nerve jangly.
“I would like to have everybody recall mijj’s comments about twitter from the last couple of days. Flopping like a ‘Merican politician, ‘e ‘is.”
oh yeh! .. no way am i consistent .. but .. i can’t remember what my comment was a couple of days ago? .. somethign like .. “i wouldn’t touch twitter iwth a barge pole”?
plus .. dont forget .. i wont be on this site for another couple of weeks yet because i said that i’d be absent for about a month.
Skills? I do not even understand the question. I can’t even come up with a clever response… I’m just trying to make my printer spit out a page in less than five minutes.
whoah! .. even a question like “what the f#@% are you bothering to do all that for?” is a damned useful question.. sometimes i get carried away with the nerdiness of it all and forget if it actually achieves anything.
so .. i guess “skills” includes .. erm .. that word i can’t put my finger on right now .. that means .. hmmm … you know.
really love your channel and a follow it really often. am a big fan.
I don’t know if this is too rude but I figured, most of your fan base being male, could you do a video on the word “penis”. Where does it come from? Also, why is it that in roman times all the statues were made with small penises and nowadays it’s all about bigger being better. Is there some history/reason behind it?
I wouldn’t know what to suggest for homework on this one. Well, that’s up to the teacher anyway…
Sorry I can’t do a video request but I don’t have a camera of any kind.
Hope you decide to do this word. It puzzles me a lot.
That’s the thing. If you look at all the naked statues they are not all that well endowed, in modern terms that is. I was wondering if there is any reason to it. Was the original meaning of “penis” something short? Am I completely on the wrong track?
really hope Marina helps me/us out on this one.
Ever look at the rest of an old statue? Very large and athletic regardless of penis size, the farther back in time You go the better it was to be big/strong,good for working/fighting.
Guess #2- If the statue is of anyone other than Royalty, then,it might have been *dangerous* to be depicted with a bigger penis than the Royalty possessed/displayed!!
Maybe the olden day sculptors and the folks that commissioned them were sending a message-”You can be a Hero no matter Your penis size,so keep working/fighting for the State!”
Since propaganda also existed then,it might be a combination of all the above.
Also to note, the average man isn’t built for LARGE WOMEN or SMALL CATTLE(yep, pussy size),so,when Ya get a chick in the sack, just make a go of it and decide later wether to keep Her(if she’s willing of course),or,turn Her back loose to the field! After all,She’s doing/thinking the same for You.
Homework: How many friends I have? I have no idea. I couldn’t count them all. I have many friends I have not met yet (online or in person). I have friends all over the world. Which makes this planet a very small world for me.
That reminds me of an old quote a made many years ago about friendship. Let me see if I can remember it. I had it posted on Yahoo but it has been deleted.
"Spend as much time as you can with your friends as if were your last. For in time all you will have left is just the memories." Jack Richards - 1998
I wrote this because over time I have lost contact with very close friends. I had wish I could have spent more time with them before we moved on. There is much I have to say to them like how much their influences and suggestions have affected my life. I also wonder the same. I want to tell them that “It worked as you said it would!”
Now I ask, Where are they now? Are their lives better now than before? Did the get the new _____ that they tried so hard to get? Do they miss me as much as I miss them too? So as you can see. Why I try to make time with friends and do things today with friends and not put it off for too long for it may never happen.
Funny. I hacked my mac many times along with some other macs that were not mine. My first hack was on an Apple II computer. It was also considered in todays terms (but I didn’t know it back then), a virus. To kill the virus all you had to do is turn off the computer or reboot it. Oh what fun it was. Since my close encounter with the Secret Service, I have since retired from that hobby. Hackers are not all that bad. Some of them become very successful and well known. You might know of one. His name is Steve Jobs.
Yes your very correct! I was going to add Woz to my statement but I didn’t think most people here would know who he was. Jobs did do a bit of tinkering with Woz. They both worked on the blue boxes together. Later on through the years Jobs was more focused on the marketing and Woz did the software/hardware work.
Woz kinda got lost in history, didn’t he.
I remember reading up on the Xerox .. erm … Star(? i think it was?) project with the Smalltalk OS providing the Windows Icons Mouse interface and the Local Area Networking, when along came Jobs and pinched the idea for the interface and the LAN. he sure knows how to spot a good idea. … pity he didn’t pinch Smalltalk too.
Speaking of “Powerful Woz”, I got the
word from him about the next phase
to look for from Apple. The Ipod will
be made obsolete by the new product
under developement. (shades of
Dick Tracy!). Steve Jobs is happy
about the new laptops coming out.
The case is machined aluminum, a
heat sink designed to minimize all
the heat issues inherent in laptops.

Homework: My family is so big, they make up all my friends. I have four kids, eight grandkids, Mom, sisters, nieces and nephews. Comes out to about 40.
Homework: How many friends do I have?
ok – not counting family, associates, acquaintances
and casual fraternizations – or HFW buddies…
around 30-40 I can think of, off the top of my head.
My list of “not my friends” is a MUCH lower number

Number of friends is a difficult question to answer; I think everyone has different levels of friendship with various people. Some you’d drop everything to help, and some you’d help if you could.
Sorry bsomebody! I actually made the video right before you made the request and didn’t upload it until just now! I was going to add your name in as a subtitle but forgot to include it in the final version.
yes, and isn’t it nice since in one of my previous incarnations on annudder site my nick contained the word free and my friends (of which i have several, some even good friends homework submission) came to call me “Free” instead of the full nick…

High Court May Consider Legality of Detention

Bush and the Constitution
http://www.counterpunch.org/leupp12142005.html

Be prepared for

turn to make even more! And he PLANS
to do it. I wonder what other plans he has?

The United States Marine Corps
Happy Birthday, Marines! 233 years of service
A tribute to our Corps
A tribute to the British Royal Marines and those who served in Flanders Field (Armistice Day – Nov 11)
ha .. you mean you’re not friends with that population of the United States?
do you hate america?
With all of its faults and all of its blessings, I love my country and countrymen… but much more those who have served, be they military or civilian. But it is a respect for shared history, not political beliefs, that led me to give tribute to the Royal Marines.

This goes back to what BillyB was saying on the “My Calendar” page.
However, I believe that the intent of the verse in the Samurai’s Creed is to preach self-sufficiency and interdependence.
Remember the words of the song Wandering Star, that Lee Marvin sang in the film “Paint Your Wagon”,
If we live our lives being dependent on others for, not just companionship, Love, and happiness, but also to help us complete out work and fight our fights, then sooner or later we will be disappointed by someone letting us down.
In the US we say:
“If you want something done right then you got to do it yourself.”
Well Lee Marvin, all said and done ….

what about the word masterbashon?
Dear Marina,
I have read a very interesting academic article about definition of “friend” by Anna Wierzbicka. (Do you know her? She is a very famous linguist)
The definition of “friend” is quite different from culture to culture. According to her, the definition of “friend” for Americans is so broad while that of Russian is so narrow. So if you think you have many friends in America, most of them are not really considered as friends in Russia. Funny huh?
I only have as many friends as I require, no more, no less.

ps. I’ve paid my $3 and applied to become a Minister in the Church of the Subgenius.
When i’m ordained i’ll be able to marry people to Marina.

“marry people to Marina” ……sounds like bigamy
bigamy implies two .. i wouldn’t be so presumptuous as to put a limit on the number of Marina’s indentured lovers.
polygamy then
the state of Utah was created just for this purpose
erm … i’m afraid i’m not referring to the actual physical Marina, but the conceptual Marina – the one we worship on twitter and the YouTube vids.
a state of mind was created just for this purpose
here’s a [promotional vid for the Church of the Subgenius], btw.
I wonder how much wealth Marina would amass from inheriting the estates of the dearly departed?
Thanks for the free beer. My slaves drank it all and left before the duties were performed. Now I’m free to beg for work. Free friends has no number. Good job

Actual friends, the ones you can count on for almost anything, I guess only two. I also have 3 other really good friends, but I don’t think I could count on them for anything. Everyone else is just an acquaintance.
Marina is eating chicken with rice:
that’s funny cuz in Mexico I feed broken rice to my chickens
Well lads, time to make the donuts. G’nite (G’day to mijj) all.

it would be nice if we all had web cams a could dine together
well .. i’m not too bothered about seeing the person. I watch vids with a friend near Boston and we text chat through them and we dont need to see each other.
the weird thing is the sense of ghostly alienation you (meaning “i”) get with the twitter observation of Marina .. very nerve jangly.
i guess that’s what’s at the root of my aversion to being a “fan” (in general). The weird sense of ghostly alienation you get if you’re a “fan”.
i wonder if “alienation”’s the wrong word. .. i don’t mean there’s any hostile component .. just the sense of disconnect.
After a while being a ‘fan’ is not what’s important. (for me)
We are all here in a playground which Marina created, so it’s like going to a park named after someone of merit.
I would like, at this time to thank Marina for creating such a wonderful place to play.

Skills? I do not even understand the question. I can’t even come up with a clever response…
I’m just trying to make my printer spit out a page in less than five minutes.
whoah! .. even a question like “what the f#@% are you bothering to do all that for?” is a damned useful question.. sometimes i get carried away with the nerdiness of it all and forget if it actually achieves anything.

Hi Marina,
really love your channel and a follow it really often. am a big fan.
Thanks,
John Black
i agree, it would be an interesting lesson…
but i don’t think most of Marina’s admirers are interested in penises (penii?)…except their own…(-;
Well, they should be!
Or is it that the pen is mightier than the words?
Was there something about in the roman times it was good to have a small penis or something?
That’s the thing. If you look at all the naked statues they are not all that well endowed, in modern terms that is. I was wondering if there is any reason to it. Was the original meaning of “penis” something short? Am I completely on the wrong track?
really hope Marina helps me/us out on this one.
I’ll give a guess or two,or three.
After all,She’s doing/thinking the same for You.
as i wait for this lesson in slow speed, see my comment later<<<<<<<<<not funny or free

That reminds me of an old quote a made many years ago about friendship. Let me see if I can remember it. I had it posted on Yahoo but it has been deleted.
Why I try to make time with friends and do things today with friends and not put it off for too long for it may never happen.
alternatively, if you cant be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.
I guess that also can be true, all though I yet to experience that.
have you been loving on you Ms. Handy wife and what about the daughters?
just a little quote from Woodstock
I didn’t get to see Woodstock. Im still just a baby. I still have vivid memories of when I was 3 years old. Possibly even earlier.
I missed it, too, Captain – I do remember my friend’s t-shirt, though – a dove on a guitarneck with the words “Three days of peace and music”
ah yes .. woodstock .. i remember it as if it was yesterday ..
.. in fact .. it was yesterday! … on youtube!!
this bit, in fact!! ..
[ten years after - i'm going home]
LOL … a normal intel box running a hacked Macintosh OS is called a Hackintosh!
Downpressor Man – Peter Tosh
the “oppressor” ……de man
His name is Steve Jobs.
my info is that it was Woz who was the software/hardware wizkid and Jobs was the marketing wizkid (tho, i guess, with some tech skills).
Woz kinda got lost in history, didn’t he.
he sure knows how to spot a good idea. … pity he didn’t pinch Smalltalk too.
I remember reading up on the Xerox .. erm … Star(? i think it was?) project with the Smalltalk OS providing the Windows Icons Mouse interface and the Local Area Networking, when along came Jobs and pinched the idea for the interface and the LAN.
why don’t you guys use his full name http://ei.cs.vt.edu/~history/WOZNIAK.HTM
Steven Wozniak
Speaking of “Powerful Woz”, I got the
word from him about the next phase
to look for from Apple. The Ipod will
be made obsolete by the new product
under developement. (shades of
Dick Tracy!). Steve Jobs is happy
about the new laptops coming out.
The case is machined aluminum, a
heat sink designed to minimize all
the heat issues inherent in laptops.
Those guys are always thinking up
new stuff and raising the bar for the
rest of the industry
Melika, Oh yea! And I thought I was on top of everything. Damn Im slipping.
One of my goals in life is to go out to lunch with Steve and Steven.
(i don’t keep an enemies list – like Nixon & J Edgar Hoover did)
Outstanding!!!
‘Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose’ ( Kris Kristofferson from ‘Me and Bobby McGee’ ).
And my personnal favorite: Freedom isn’t free.
Number of friends is a difficult question to answer; I think everyone has different levels of friendship with various people. Some you’d drop everything to help, and some you’d help if you could.
Freedom costs a buck o’ five
I feel so used. I requested that word. I even made the liber and gratis comment. Man, I gotta learn how to make a vid or something
