now it’s becoming unavoidably clear (as we all knew anyway) to even the most stupid politician, that Georgia was the aggressor and Russia was the defender in the Georgia-Ossetia skirmish…

    [The Russian Question : What's Obama's answer?]

The Georgian lobby’s carefully orchestrated media campaign to spin the Georgian invasion as a heroic act of self-defense is now coming completely unraveled. OSCE monitors, assigned to watch the volatile region, report that the Georgians fired first – and that the alleged “shelling” of Georgian villages that was supposed to have provoked the all-out Georgian assault on a civilian target did not in fact occur. Ryan Grist, the senior military officer in the OSCE group, testified:

“It was clear to me that the [Georgian] attack was completely indiscriminate and disproportionate to any, if indeed there had been any, provocation. The attack was clearly, in my mind, an indiscriminate attack on the town, as a town.”

[Documents linking Iran to nuclear weapons push may have been fabricated]

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has obtained evidence suggesting that documents which have been described as technical studies for a secret Iranian nuclear weapons-related research program may have been fabricated.

    yeh .. i agree ..

hopefully, the new admin will bring fresh air to situations like this ..

High Court May Consider Legality of Detention

“Marri was whisked to a Navy brig in Charleston, S.C., where he has spent more than five years. His case raises a question with vast implications for presidential power and civil liberties: Can the military indefinitely detain, without charge, a U.S. citizen or legal resident seized on U.S. soil?”

    • Dezdkado says: 98.1

It’s times like this that I’m glad that the US Constitution was amended with the Bill of Rights. History tells us that many in the Constitutional Convention believed these explicit rights (like the right to a speedy trial) to be “self evident” and that adding them to the Constitution was unnecessary. Others argued that without these explicit rights the state would oppress its people.

As I recall, the military cannot hold a citizen unless the alleged crime was committed on specific federal property (a base). Even then, the defendant has Constitutionally protected rights and is usually handed over to the Federal Police, such as a Federal Marshall. The only way to remove such rights is to remove citizenship. A legal resident, who is not a citizen, has no such guarantee.

      • mijj says: 98.1.1

along with documentation is needed the will to perceive the meaning and uphold make it real.

it doesn’t take much of a change in mindset for any document to be regarded as no more than a historical curiosity with no current relevance.

erm .. … along with documentation is needed the will to perceive the meaning and make it real.

        Bush and the Constitution
        http://www.counterpunch.org/leupp12142005.html

Doug Thompson, publisher of Capitol Hill Blue, says he’s talked to three people present last month when Republican Congressional leaders met with President Bush in the Oval Office to talk about renewing the Patriot Act. That act, passed by legislators who hadn’t read it, in the immediate aftermath of 9-11 (when most people were shell-shocked and lawmakers in particular disinclined to use their brains), has of course been criticized as containing unconstitutional elements. All three GOP politicians quote their president as saying: “Stop throwing the Constitution in my face! It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!”

  29. Obama plans to bring the Guantano detainees
to the US. I guess they’ll be freed to live here.
It’s ok with me – I am prepared. As for the rest
of you (infidels); best get ready for the jihad!
Here comes the change we were all promised

    • mijj says: 93.1

my bet is, it’s the step needed to get the detainees some kind of investigation and court that’s not politically directed towards getting particular results.

      • Yes. This is a particularly ugly situation. US military personnel that undergo a military tribunal are protected by the US Constitution as well as the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice). The Gitmo detainees are protected by nothing… even the Geneva Conventions seem to have been circumvented by defining the captives as non-military.

      • You’re all missing it. When they are tried
and convicted and sentenced to execution,
Obama will pardon and free them here in
the USA. Grant them asylum. My view is
that each state should pass laws now to
        prohibit participants in unlawful combat
against th US from living there. The only
place they should be allowed to live should
be limited to the Washington D.C. area
Better in his neighborhood than mine, or yours.

      • UCMJ and Geneva do not apply to these
guys. They are not eligible for protection
under any US law, as they are not citizens.
Any attempt to do so will result in mistrial,
and they will be immediately released on US
soil. Past detainees released from Gitmo
were killed later in combat, having returned
to the fight against US forces.
Dirka dirk! Jihad Jihad! Be prepared for
messy show trials. And who will pay all
        of Obama’s expensive attorney friends
for this? I guess the schools won’t be
getting any more money for awhile…
The mistake Bush made was capturing
        them alive. Oh well…now it’s Obama’s
turn to make even more! And he PLANS
to do it. I wonder what other plans he has?

    Dear Marina,
I have read a very interesting academic article about definition of “friend” by Anna Wierzbicka. (Do you know her? She is a very famous linguist)
The definition of “friend” is quite different from culture to culture. According to her, the definition of “friend” for Americans is so broad while that of Russian is so narrow. So if you think you have many friends in America, most of them are not really considered as friends in Russia. Funny huh?

    • Capman911 says: 46.1

That was what I was going to suggest was the drivers. Go to your printers web site and see if they have a newer driver for your printer they are free for download. My Windows Vista will loose the driver for my HP printer ever so often. I’ll delete the printer in the printer section and Windows will reload another HP driver for me. Could be your printer is just getting tired.

    • Driver issues? DriverMax4 is out. It’s free.
You can scan your system drivers and update
fairly quickly. It also is able to ferret out any
unidentified devices and provide drivers for them.
Works very well with XP and Vista

  74. Hi Marina,

really love your channel and a follow it really often. am a big fan.

I don’t know if this is too rude but I figured, most of your fan base being male, could you do a video on the word “penis”. Where does it come from? Also, why is it that in roman times all the statues were made with small penises and nowadays it’s all about bigger being better. Is there some history/reason behind it?

I wouldn’t know what to suggest for homework on this one. Well, that’s up to the teacher anyway…

Sorry I can’t do a video request but I don’t have a camera of any kind.

Hope you decide to do this word. It puzzles me a lot.

    Thanks,
    John Black

    • i agree, it would be an interesting lesson…

      but i don’t think most of Marina’s admirers are interested in penises (penii?)…except their own…(-;

    • James says: 39.2

Was there something about in the roman times it was good to have a small penis or something?

      • That’s the thing. If you look at all the naked statues they are not all that well endowed, in modern terms that is. I was wondering if there is any reason to it. Was the original meaning of “penis” something short? Am I completely on the wrong track?
really hope Marina helps me/us out on this one.

    • tryant says: 39.3

      I’ll give a guess or two,or three.

Ever look at the rest of an old statue? Very large and athletic regardless of penis size, the farther back in time You go the better it was to be big/strong,good for working/fighting.

Guess #2- If the statue is of anyone other than Royalty, then,it might have been *dangerous* to be depicted with a bigger penis than the Royalty possessed/displayed!!

Maybe the olden day sculptors and the folks that commissioned them were sending a message-”You can be a Hero no matter Your penis size,so keep working/fighting for the State!”

Since propaganda also existed then,it might be a combination of all the above.

Also to note, the average man isn’t built for LARGE WOMEN or SMALL CATTLE(yep, pussy size),so,when Ya get a chick in the sack, just make a go of it and decide later wether to keep Her(if she’s willing of course),or,turn Her back loose to the field! After all,She’s doing/thinking the same for You.

Homework: How many friends I have? I have no idea. I couldn’t count them all. I have many friends I have not met yet (online or in person). I have friends all over the world. Which makes this planet a very small world for me.
That reminds me of an old quote a made many years ago about friendship. Let me see if I can remember it. I had it posted on Yahoo but it has been deleted.

"Spend as much time as you can with your friends as if were your last. For in time all you will have left is just the memories." Jack Richards - 1998

I wrote this because over time I have lost contact with very close friends. I had wish I could have spent more time with them before we moved on. There is much I have to say to them like how much their influences and suggestions have affected my life. I also wonder the same. I want to tell them that “It worked as you said it would!”
Now I ask, Where are they now? Are their lives better now than before? Did the get the new _____ that they tried so hard to get? Do they miss me as much as I miss them too? So as you can see. Why I try to make time with friends and do things today with friends and not put it off for too long for it may never happen.
