YouTube Live!

Here is a bumper I shot for YouTube Live that will be happening tonight at 5pm PST.

And another one.

I will be roaming around back stage at the event tonight with a microphone commenting on what’s going on, interviewing people… and who knows what else I’ll be doing!

So be sure to tune in to YouTube Live tonight at 5pm PST (perhaps earlier, as I may be doing some of my stuff prior to the live show as well!)

    Ahem…

From living in the 2nd biggest gay bastion in Ca, and knowing our openly Gay Mayor, with 3 of our 5 City Council members being gay, and the estimated population of the City being 25% gay, and about that % of my business dealings being with people who are gay, and having a whole lot of friends who are gay – I must give this opinion:

What I saw of the Youtube event was just way TOO GAY! Really. Reality says that like 6% of the population is gay, and therefore about 6% of that show should have been gay (Bob may jump in with a Ben-Gay ref – I don’t know).

When this William Sledd is given the mike with his ‘Hello Bitches!’ tag line and put out over the entire world as a representative of YT and the city of San Francisco – with his honor of 99th Most Subscribed Channel (now) – you know the fix is in.

Marina, you handled yourself very well and professionally – it was the stacked deck of whoever was in charge of production that made the whole thing amatureish…but hey – that happens and they’ll maybe do better next time, and when you are standing next to a clown you only look that much better by comparison!

Marina, how about re-naming your website. Perhaps http://www.TooHotforWords
Actually, here is a more serious suggestion: how about starting a website where you teach Russian. (I took Russian in high school but I cannot recall very much.)

Man she is very beautiful. Only if we had people as smart and beautiful as her over here in Houston. Le sigh. =/

Hmm, my chief complaint about the “YouTube Live” was that there was just not enough of our lovely Marina in it!

What’s the meaning of “frog-march,” as in to frog-march someone out of the room? Does this have anything to do with the French army?

I expect that as it was only advertised for a couple of weeks beforehand, and quite experimental, there was probably a limit to the availability of many YouTube stars – as well as the logistical problems in getting them all to San Franciso for the night.

Perhaps for next year’s YT live, they might have several simultaneous events in different parts of the world. After all, they’ve shown it can work, and although it could technically be financed entirely through AdWords revenue, perhaps they could attract some sponsorship. And of course, next year they’ll be able to broadcast it in widescreen – and perhaps even buy sufficient bandwidth to do it in HD :)

  8. Hey i cant find the video of William Sledd touching Marina’s breasts. Someone plz post the link in ur reply thanks!

Well, having read the comments below and watched some of the “Highlights” ( :?: ), I’m really glad I didn’t lose any sleep staying up to watch the event.
Even the Mythbusters, who are usually interesting, just did a banal stunt.
At least we now have a new definition for a bra – “a tie-thing for comfort and joy”. That carol will never be the same again for Marina’s devotees, after that tasteless stunt.
What does it feel like to be used, Marina?

Jaaaaaaa… best part of the show, by far, Julia Nunes & the uke’ band, dissed, in the intro by whatsisname… oh & the visionary award to Queen Noor, good. Also watched the backstage stuff as much as possible & saw iJustine make Akon take her picture with her icam  Saw Marina only near the end with a ducky mic. I thought maybe Marina isn’t of the youtube political stripe or something, so they “sadly” neglected showing off her talent. Luckily I was doing the weekend paperwork so two hours in front of the computer was spent multitasking.
Love the pics you thow up on twitpics M’ just like, as Buzz says, getting a postcard.

youtube live seems kinda lame … and the blender guy didn’t blend something cool

Well I just finished watching all that I wanted to watch. Buck did a great job. He’s a fast thinker that can talk unscripted. I think he would make a good host… Good to see Marina there. I wish they would have featured her a bit more. I didn’t see PhillyD or Ponce. Maybe they where in the live show. I always enjoy the mythbuster guys.
All in all I think I would have enjoyed being there more than watching on YT live. Well now that is all over back to your regularly scheduled YT.

    • BillyB says: 26.1

Funny, Buck’s a fast thinker, not a deep thinker… ‘e got in a little s#*t for yelling “suck it fred” right after interviewing the little break dance kid. Yeah your right about not featuring Phil or Ponce, are they “staight” or something. I’m just blowing off steam, all in all it was food for thought as to what, possibly, the futures holds.

      • Yeah, Buck opens his mouth first and thinks second. Oh he got yelled at for saying “suck it Fred’? Sounds like censorship is live and well at YouTube Inc. YT is on shaky grounds for what might be 1st Amendment violation issues. TY is not broadcast TV but I think they might be trying to become the replacement for that.

So they didn’t feature them. Humm… Maybe they had so many good people they where left with just picking names out of a hat of who would be featured. Yea I think thats what might have happened. Maybe Miss M can clarify this for she was there. This is a first live show for TY and they might have known they are going to make many mistakes but one has to start somewhere and see what happens. Maybe in the future they will be better funded and do more live shows and then will have the chance to feature many more of the top YT producers.

  15. I wish we had class tonight :!: I would have been able to see more of my beautiful teacher and I would of learned something.

  16. Marina,

Your site here is like music to my ears… sane, simple, and fun.
The YT Live doodad was a bit was noisy, scattered and uneventful. Just a bunch of corybantic babble that reached no cartharsis.

I really hope you enjoyed it though…

  17. koalabear says: 23

Not quite sure what YT is trying to do here. It’s like the difference between going to a live concert and watching it on TV – it’s not the same.

It looked like a bit of a circus with MythBusters thrown in, but at least at the circus you might have a rogue elephant or hungry tiger to spice things up.

I still haven’t seen Miss M. on the video, where is it?

  18. CaptainJack says: 22

I just got back from a commercial fisherman trade show and jumped on YT live. I discover 256k/256 speeds just are not enough to keep the stream going. I was able to get 10 second clips every 15 seconds. From what Im reading here that I didn’t miss anything. That’s really sad to hear. I can say I’m not surprised. I seen the writing on the wall on how YT manages its business. It’s and infant company that has much to learn. Once they learn these important lessons they will become a very good company and should do well in the years to come.

    • koalabear says: 22.1

      Yep, it was pretty average.
They seem to be trying to be like MTV or something.
Quite strange, when you think that the popularity of YT is because it is different to TV.

      • Now that the show is over I was able to view bits and pieces of the show. I kind of like parts of it. Yeah it did have an MTV feel, but how would you have done a show to feature many different styles of youtubers in one show? This what YT first time doing something like this. From what I saw it was a valiant effort. Maybe they will listen to the input from the users and make next year much better.

  19. I watched all 2 hours of it and as corny as the show may have been, I didn’t have any expectations to compete with slickly produced TV shows such as SNL or other variety shows since YouTube is about home grown videos, it had that home grown charm. Also loved the backstage chaos.

I think this was as much a technological experiment, with the entertainment as a filler if you will, about YouTubers, for YouTubers, by You Tubers.

I loved the simultaneous four channel views. I was actually watching the show on two PCs at the same time. Watched the Main Stage one PC, and the other PC I switched back and forth between Backstage and Offstage.

Despite the short Marina coverage, I’m glad that you were there Marina.

  20. seesixcm6 says: 20

As a variety show, it was horrible. Most of the skits were lame. There were some good singers, but not all of them. Some bands were good, the ukelele act was a flop. Some dancers were great, others didn’t entertain. Overall, I thought it was25% good acts and 75% not so good, but maybe I’m being generous?
Marina got a few seconds and defined ne word. She should have used a Karate chop on the guy who touched her breast. Marina deserved some time on stage, not a few seconds from the audience seats! The producers made a big mistake.
I hope Marina gets to go to the after-show cast parties, and maybe she’ll record some videos with “talent” that were on the show. At least she’ll enjoy some of the producer’s free food and booze. Maybe she’ll be home by monday!

  21. Dezdkado says: 19

Well… I have to say that I liked the show. There were a lot of really talented folks performing. Many of the dancers were amazing, and there was a lot of good-natured humor.

But I’m still disappointed that Marina was just a side-note for the show. Some of the performers were up multiple times, so I think they should have made time for teacher.

  22. Is everyone happy and gay?
This class is definitely the wrong audience for these
fop pantywaist boys. Marina, key to effective speaking
is “know your audience”. I’m sorry to tell you this,
but this was a real bad call on your part – for a LOT
of us who watch your show. Can I get an AMEN?

  23. Dezdkado says: 17

I’m disappointed that Marina has nothing more than an honorable mention from a guy that pokes her breasts. Marina’s vids average 2-3 minutes and the live show couldn’t afford her any time? Boo! Hiss! Fie! Bad Form!

  24. animalntaz says: 16

Ah, you finally get a chance to talk more in the second bumper. I’ve been so use to Michael Buckley doing all the talking, that it is nice to see that he can give his mouth a break.

  25. Hi Marina,

May you have lots of fun and don’t get tooWASTED ON THE WAY!

  26. OMG! It lookth tho thuperduper!
All the colorth and noitheth!

Thank goodness Marina will be there.
Other than that… huh huh huh … no man.

  27. Dear Miss Orlova,

Have an awesome wicked good time!

I will be working but my thoughts will be on you tube!

Have a great time Marina! I’ll be watching!

  29. hmmm…i don’t get all too excited ’bout “cool” people – basically my philosophy is the everyone can be cool, given a chance. i’m not one to think grouping a bunch of celebrities together is an exciting event…

    but i know that’s just me…y’all have fun…

  30. Che Volay says: 9

You Tube must be shelling out some big bucks for this, thinking YT paid for the air travel of invited guest, the limos, the hall, the talent, food, hotel……..

Record as much as you can and put it on where it can be watched later as there is a football game to watch here at home(Texas Tech and Oklahoma) being national televised. Don’t know who to be for as I am a Ou fan and dad was a Texas Tech alumni so I have always been sort of  when this game was played every year. Have Fun Reindeer
