The Dutch have a holiday on the 5th of November (or december.. Forgot which) that’s called “SinterKlaas.”
Sinterklaas is a man who came from spain on the first of november to bring gifts. He traveled the Netherlands until the 5th of november, and then went back to spain. He has helpers called “Zwarte Pieten” litteraly “Black Petes” who are comparable to Santa’s elves. The black petes however follow sinterklaas around the netherlands to help him and to throw “Pepernoten” at the crowds of children. Pepernoten are small biscuits or cookies that taste similar to “Speculaas” which are in turn similar to Gingerbread. Sinterklaas also has a horse called “Amerigo” and carries a staff similar to that of a bishop.
I don’t know why I’m telling you all this, but I suppose it is cool to know albeit a bit late for christmas.
by the way: Webcorrupter – the channel is Fox news not faux news. Faux pronounced like “foe” is a french word meaning fake. The fur coats hotforwords mentioned are faux fur – fake fur.

The spelling was intentional because it is, in fact, fake news. By the way, it’s Webcorruptor not Webcorrupter. Saint Nicholas day is generally celebrated on December 5th or 6th depending which country it is. I think one is the day he was born and the other is when he died. It is supposed to be celebrated in Germanic countries for the most part. So, It would make sense for “SinterKlaas” to be based on him as Marina says in the video.
I think they cut a bit out of the show, or Marina’s time was limited’. We don’t have a holiday on dec. 5, But for the rest of it you are right.
Sinterklaas, is not the same person as Santa Claus. He was here first.
As the tail goes he comes from Spain and his helpers are called zwarte Pieten.
On the day before his birthday 5 December he gives presents to the children (pakjesavond).
In America he transformed (nice hint that X-man shot) into a new character. Kept the name, but changed the: outfit, date, place of origin, means of transportation and the helpers.

It’s good that you posted this. I wouldn’t have seen it otherwise since I have been boycotting Faux News for quite some time. It’s nice to know that there is finally something worth watching on that channel. By the way, I couldn’t think of one before, but now I know who I would give a “louche bag” award to: Bill O’Reilly. I hope you’ve seen the Youtube video where he throws a tantrum back when he was hosting “Inside Edition”. It’s hilarious. Also, if someone doesn’t like Faux News, they aren’t necessarily left wing. Faux News doesn’t speak for all conservatives just like all conservatives are not in favor of wiretapping, waterboarding, pre-emptive war, destroying the constitution, torture, police equiped with tazers, and huge deficits created by uncontrollable spending. If they’re supposed to be fair and balanced then, why do they always want to call everyone who disagrees with their Nazi, fascist beliefs left wing? The media should at least attempt to be impartial. While I believe it is true that most media is left wing, that doesn’t make it alright for Faux News to abuse their position by masquerading as News when they are really just a political tool of Neocons.

Yet Conservative news, Opinion, and Commentary never claims to be balanced. The whole point is to present a conservative viewpoint. The mainstream media, as you point out, is overwhelmingly liberal and leftarded, but they conceal and deny this fact while pretending, (a euphemism for ‘lying’) to be fair and balanced. The “fair and balanced” news coverage of Obama was the first time the mask was openly removed from the biased media.
I don’t care where Marina appears, I’m just glad to see her and learn the latest. We live in an Orwellian age in which ’stimulus package’ means ‘enormous debt for generations to come’ and ‘fairness doctrine’ means ’silence opposing views’.
In such a world as this we need our dear Hot For Words teacher, to keep us on track and accurate in our use of words.
And for the others here who object to her for her association with the Right, most of the foreign born people I know who came from Communist countries, such as Russia, Ukraine, Cuba, China, Viet Nam, etc., are conservative because they understand first-hand, (not liberal college social theory, but first-hand,) what it is truly like to live in a left-wing world. That’s why they come here!
That’s a good point about people from Communist countries being conservative. Until recently the conservative movement has been the place for people who want less government and more freedom. From what I understand the Cuban community in Florida is a big conservative voting block. Also, my favorite author, Ayn Rand, was from the USSR. It must really suck to leave a country like that only to have everyone in the new country expect you to agree with the morons running the place you left in the first place. I’ve heard stories about people from the USA going to England and having people want to argue with them over the war in Iraq and Bush’s policies when most of the country disagrees with both, and Bush had a record low approval rating. I don’t know if Marina has said anything to indicate what her politics are, and I don’t blame her. People take politics very personally. I don’t think it makes sense to assume that she is either conservative or liberal by appearing on the O’Reilly Factor. It’s television and she isn’t discussing anything political on it. So, it’s a good way to get publicity for her calendar, youtube channel, and website. It could easily be nothing more than that. In honor of Bill O’Reilly though, I am going to request the word “falafel” which is one of the first things I’m sure he thinks of when he sees Marina along with soap suds. Hopefully, that will help everyone to remember his sex harrassment scandal a while ago and remind them that he is disgusting.

Intelligently explaining word meanings is a gift to the English speaking world detached from any one ideology. So, once again, a person from the left, being devoid of substance, resorts to its premier Stalinist tactic of name calling. Anthonzi, in lock step with leftist elitism now calls Marina “ideologically irresponsible” and that old childish standby: “he’s stupid”. You’re like little children in a sandbox: “you’re stoopid, stoopid” Anyone who doesn’t think like leftist Anthonzi is stupid, dumb, a dunce, etc. That’s all they can do, call their opponents names, because their platform is nothing but feelings without form. Moreover, you make a claim about O’Reilly, regarding his understanding “the functions of the universe” that is unsubstantiated, except in your mind, and quite meaningless. I am sure that someone as bright as O’Reilly understands basic science regarding the “universe.”

Oh, Marina, Marina. You really need to work on that German pronunciation of yours.
“Drehen” (IPA: /ˈdʀeːən/).
The “h” is not pronounced but is an indication that the “e” preceding it is a long vowel, not short. Long “e” (IPA: eː) is like “air” (like the name of the letter “A” but without the “ee” sound at the end). Like English, “-en” and “-er” endings use the obscure vowel (”uh”).
Have you learnt how to read IPA, Marina?
Because then you can just look up the words on the German Wiktionary and read off the IPA for the word to perfect your pronunciation.
And, of course, the whole point of the IPA is that it defines vocal sounds in a language-neutral way, so it works for all languages (because, obviously, you can’t be expected to know how to speak every single possible language that exists – but the IPA at least lets you be able to pronounce the words fairly convincingly).

Speaking of Christmas (and Christians)…Question about the words associatred with the “mark of the beast”?
The general consensuses between some of the various denominations of Christianity as to some of the definitions of the Mark of the Beast are;
1. You will receive a “mark”.
2. You will receive the mark of the beast on your “right hand”
3. Accepting the mark of the beast shall “curse” you to eternal death.
4. You will receive the mark of the beast on your “head”
5. You will not be able to “buy or sell” without the mark of the beast
That being said; isn’t it interesting that when you sign your signature on an Admiralty Maritime document that also has your STRAWMAN name on it:
1. You don’t write your autograph, instead, you write your signature. The word “autograph” is a compound word: “auto” = “self” and “graph” = “symbol”. Your autograph is your sovereign symbol as a flesh-and-blood Sovereign Christian. The signature line on your check is not really a line; it is actually microprint repeating the words “authorized signature”.
2. The root-word of signature is “sign”. “Sign” is literally translated from Latin as “mark”.

Did your Mom have a “bad”, or should I say, “some” experience “In” the LDS church?
Just wondering, as the term “christian” is used & covers such a broad spectrum of people & beliefs that it holds virtually no defining ability on it’s own anymore.
She was raised Mormon and married my father who was also raised Mormon. When I was 6 they left the church and took me and my older brother and sister with them. They raised us Atheist. My mom saw and heard things in, around, and about the LDS Church that opened her eyes. Unfortunately she swung to the extreme, instead of looking for alternative ideas of God. She became a major support for the Tapestry Against Polygamy, which helps Women and their Children out of it. She also helped a London Film Direction on a Documentary, has written many articles, and has appeared on TV several times for her work on informing the public about these matters. She was also the Utah N.O.W. president for a few years. She lives in California now and is going to school to become a psychologist who helps people out of Cult and Brainwashery. It would be cool if she covered the “christian” topic. She’s a fan of the documentaries that state Jesus is only a Myth. We went to Religulous by Bill Mayer. I understand what you mean of the broad spectrum. I’m sort of Gnostic Christian myself.
Thanks for the quick reply. I was raised Christian, in a fairly strict environment, although my parents weren’t as gung ho on the religiousity aspect of things. I do not subscribe to the “Jesus as a myth” school of thinking. I do believe that cults that deviate into the brainwashing & control behaviours are dangerous. Christ received his greatest opposition from the Religious leaders at the time, but he did not call the “faith” (of the jews he lived amongst) wrong, but railed against the the leaders calling them a “Brood of Vipers” etc. for perverting the spirit of the God given faith.
All the things Jesus taught & lived brought freedom from the bondage of sin & the law, and he is probably the #1, most misunderstood, misquoted person in history. That being said, I’m not trying to prostelise here, just saying that the search for truth is a lifelong endeavour, enjoy it & let the search bring meaning & purpose to your life.

I don’t think I like that Oreilly guy. Something just bugs me about him. Seems a little conservative. Nothing wrong with a ‘little’ conservative but I dont really lean either way. I feel like we need to strike a balance as far as LEFT and RIGHT go.
He’s a little of both. Since he isn’t exclusively one side or the other side, both sides despise him, especially the fringes.

I have no problem with people expressing their religious beliefs. I just didn’t care for him bashing the Governor in Washington State, about the Atheist posting their display.
The Bill of Rights protects freedom of speech, freedom of religion, etc. This is what I meant about exercising our rights.
The Atheist weren’t just posting their display, they were attacking Christians. Bill O’Reilly never had a problem with them expressing their beliefs (or lack there of) he only had a problem with the Gov. when she allowed hate and attacks to be displayed.
What you don’t understand is the Gov was required by Washington State law to allow it to be displayed. Bill attacked her for following that law. That’s the point of my argument with Bill. Bill or his assistants failed to research that information. I guess it’s only egg on his face. That said it was Bill job to create controversory. He does this on many shows. It doesn’t matter what our opinion is whether it does or doesn’t. It’s about freedom for all religious beliefs. There is nothing in the constitution that says which religion has the right over another.
You are completely missing the point. Bill had no problem with them posting a symbol (like the christains and jews did), he only had a problem because they were posting HATE SPEECH. Not to sound insulting, but make sure you pay attention to the story before commenting on it.

Yes prospero, I have been following Marina since her first video, but didn’t become a subscriber until June this year.
I remember visiting this domain, but the link was forwarding to the YT HotForWords channel. I think Marina may be correct about developing the site early ‘08. It was interesting to watch all of the changes over time and how the number of subscribers and comments have grown.
Good for you. But really though just because some one just started watching her show now, and not 8 months ago (when I started) or longer, they shouldn’t be hated on. Maybe they just weren’t exposed to her show.

Marina, On the 6th of december we have saint nicholas. Its a thing that only some (not many) people (only brits?) have. It passed down. We only get about 4 small things but it’s still st nick on the 6th december. Strange huh?

It is pretty
to see our girl on TV, but I prefer the final product when M is in control. She does such a great job of balancing the content. My biggest complaint with most outside coverage is the focus on M’s sexuality. Sure, Teach is a very attractive women, but some of the coverage belittles her etymological expertise, friendliness, humor, compassion, techy geekiness, and professionalism. Nothing compares to M’s personal touch.
Well, Klaus did a pretty good job, too.
