Love your pictures that come up promoting videos at The HotForWords home site. Long live the Republic of Lexicon……..The Capital of Etymologia

    I love upgrades!
Please send my best regards to your coders… they made stuff work, and that rarely happens without a lot of work put in :D

After everything got sorted out (has it?), I like the changes. The gravatars in recent comments section is pretty cool. That section seems to be up to speed, now. Thst messed me up earlier on, especially when lots of people were posting quickly (somebody had trouble finding replies). Is the I like section new, or has somebody not been paying attention? Great job, M.

  5. Those broads look sorta devious, bet they’re fixing those cars so they go fast, working for whiskey runners and moonshiners.

  6. Such independent women even back then. We’d rather work on cars and handle cars manly all day and all night than be manhandled in cars.

  7. Oh, I know what they’re saying in that photo. Those looks aren’t smile and say cheese, oh no, They’re message is as clear as day: See here buster! This is the reason you have nothing to do on a Friday night

  8. Are daddys are strict and finally had it with us and so we got sold for $100 a piece to work in the car factory and now we do forced labor. Aren’t you glad you didn’t live in these troubling times?

  9. These broads are working on cars til they find themselves some real boyfriends. Yeah, they’ll be hitting the motorway after the midnight hour with their checkered flags and their tight short, shorts, they be an early day version of the fast & furious

  10. These mechanic chicks are wearing high heels for crying out loud!

  11. That photo just begs for captions.

  12. The most bigoted comment I could come up with is: you know what they say about women who can work on cars, don’t you? they spend less time in the kitchen and more time in bed than those women who can cook their men full course gourmet meals.

  13. That’s a cool photo. Those young women look like they want equal pay and workman’s comp and all that good stuff just like the fellows get. meh

  14. A grease monkey properly busts his/her knuckles when fully dressed up in a monkeysuit. I’ve gone loon, it’s the gamma rays, full moon. I’m spouting hair on the back of my hands and howling. Don’t worry, I will make it up to you one day and buy you a house.

  15. The greasing and lubrication of the suspension system, the drive train and other general parts of a vehicle. A total lube job should be performed professionally once or twice a year and can easily be done when a vehicle’s oil is changed.

  16. “The Mechanicstresses”

The young ladies need to go on a diet. Notice the right front tire!

The photo must have been taken in a cold climate or near one. Notice the snow chain hanging from the right rear of the car to the right.

BTW, the creeper the young lady is lying on is the very same one that was the inspiration for the 1938 song, Jeepers, Creepers. It’s true, I tell you.

    Awake now?

  18. the shaun says: 46

Well Lets see how the comment system is updated

  19. animalntaz says: 45

Wait, I’m hearing you can edit comments posted. Is that true, by fixing type-Os and stuff? And if so, how do you do that? :???:

    • For five minutes after submitting a post, you may use the Click to Edit button that appears above the text of the post. Graphic smilies are not available, but you can type the text equivalent, e.g. “” or “” if you leave a space on either side of it. At least for the time being, after “Saving…” appears, click your browser’s Back button to return to the blog. (This may change later.)

    Hi Marina,
Have you heard when someone says ‘flash in the pan’ or ‘fly by
night’. Do you know the origin of this?
Hope to hear from you soon. :!:

    • Flash in the pan is from the pre-flashbulb days of photography. Flash powder was spread along the length of a 1 or 2-ft.-long tray (the pan) that was held up by the photographer. Just after opening the lens, he would ignite the powder to get enough light to make a short exposure and then close the lens. Anything said to be a flash in the pan is possibly of great fame or success, but only lasts for a very short time. Poof!

 Since watching for over a year  I sighned up not only due to the newest lesson, BUT mainly due to the fact that Marina has gone through so much effort with the upgrade that I could no longer selfishly enjoy watching her videos & reading mostly great comments from the truly talented Ta’s & M lovers all   B.B. EDIT seems to work lol like I know what I am doin hahaha

  22. tricovictus says: 42

Will the iTunes feed start working again? :?: According to iTunes, it hasn’t been updated since 11/22, and before that is 8/23. :!:

  28. FYI

If I try to logout VIA the Logout >> link above the comment box next to my screenname, it takes me to a page that says “You are attempting to logout of HotForWords” “Please try again.”

But, if I logout through the top right of the site, it logs me out immediately.

  29. Dear Teach,

Ok so I went to log out and it would not let me, & a please try again later message came up. Does that mean I don’t have to go home tonight?

    Your Dear Student,

  30. I ate all of my Spaghetti and I’m going to smoke a cig, so, no problems here. All is running so smooth I don’t know what changed. Whatever it was, it must have been good.

  31. wyo550 says: 33

I logged in to make a comment and had to reload the page with my browser to get this window to show. Might be my browser.

HEY, FINALLY I GOT MY CALENDAR! It’s OK.
Your sister didn’t autograph it (I thought for sure I was one of the first 100 people that night you posted about the calendar being available. But that’s Ok too, as I’ll sign it for your sister with a magic marker. I think I’ll sign it, “Thank you for buying my calendar, Love Sparky!”

    Bye Bye Sparky! Arf Arf!

I am using Mozzila Firefox under GNU/Linux (kubuntu if it cares), and the screen does not match as it would be, maybe by the resolution that i am using. If you want, i can send you screenshots of my screen. And sorry for my english, i am not a native speaker :D

  33. The whole edit thing doesn’t seem to be working for me, It just says SAVING… and doesn’t continue.

Happy day after your birthday Marina!

  35. BillyB says: 28

LOL… the girl sitting on the engine, wearing heels… wonder if she’s wearing safety board approved footwear.
It looks like Marina under the car, tweaking the chassis… maybe she feels the website pulling to the right, after yet another brilliant, Billy O’ appearance… simple fix though. Over-looked some flatness in the right front tyre, not enough “Hot” air. (kinda’ bad sarcasm, i’ll work on it).
Tried a couple of old vids out & the faggot one stopped 1/2 way, but that may be my old work computer’s fault. (was showing a friend how the lessons used to look).
That “pic” is now my desktop pic, who gets the royalty cheque?

  36. yep everything is working fine!

  37. buzzword says: 26

    my nested replies don’t work.

  38. Do they work for Bill Gates???

  39. Ohhh!! I get it! They upgraded yer site for ya!! Workin so far!!

  40. LOVE the PIC!! Hehehehehehe, are these ladies “Geeks”, Nerds or mechanics??

  41. Capman911 says: 20

I went to edit that last comment and I had to cancel to move on to the next comment.

  42. Capman911 says: 19

Marina I cannot get past the edit save feature. When I edit my post the save button want let me go any further. It just hangs and ajax edit is visible at the top of the comment box.

    {test}

  43. fatbuffalo says: 18

recent comments thingy has been upgraded , with gravatars

  44. bsomebody says: 17

Che, I am leaving you in charge of this page. I will come back on Saturday to make sure you have been on top of things (if I can find my way back.) If you do not hear from me by Sunday, fire thirteen purple flairs at half hour intervals until I am able to track my way back in.

    It seems appropriate for today.

  46. Che Volay says: 15

Marina we can edit our comments, we just don’t go back directly to the page after we hit the save button.

I must refresh the page with edit box to get back into the HFW page.

  47. koalabear says: 14

Try editing again … the page seems to hang after pressing save.
    Does this work ?
    WP Ajax Edit Comments is displayed and when I hit [save}
the screen appears to hang with “Saving…” message at the bottom.

  48. Che Volay says: 13

Was this the change Obama was talking about :???:

  49. bsomebody says: 12

Wow, she is changing all sorts of stuff at once. M is much bolder than me. I do not like changing that many things at once. I git skeered sumpin’ might not go so good, ‘n I won’t know which wrench to turn.

  50. hmmm…now the comment links are showing up funny for me…this one showed up as “{snippet}” something or other…and my last post, to the O’Reilly vid post, says i posted to httvh: (leaving out the rest of the link)…

  51. Che Volay says: 10

    Well I’m back
I will check the edit button again…

    now checking edit button

I’m in another tab now, it still locks up
I don’t see anyone else but me and bsomebody with this problem nor to I see Marina addressing this problem
So I guess it’s a mute point to continue reporting this info.

  52. bsomebody says: 9

    ?
    now this
    I went to the Admin tab to Tools and d/l Gears. After I restarted my browser, I tried to edit. I hit save, and it still froze. Instead of f5ing, I hit cancel in the edit box, and the box went away. When I refreshed the page, my edit had stuck. I guess I just will not edit. I never liked it anyway. {wishing we had a raspberry smiley }

  53. runawayscott says: 8

That’s weird, I tried logging out and it doesn’t work. Not that i would ever want to log out and be away from Marina, just figured I’d try it to see whats going on.

  54. CaptainJack says: 7

Wow! What a change on the backend side of things. There are two menu plugins I can get rid of that where doing basically the same thing that the new update does.

  55. bsomebody says: 6

The picture reminds me of M. Greasy hands, dressed for work, still gotta have the heels.
    edit test
    nope-funky

  56. nathan19 says: 5

I mentioned this in a response to your announcement of the update on the “State of the Art” page, but when I log in, I’m taken to the WordPress profile options page instead of the homepage for hotforwords.

  57. dinovelvet says: 4

i don’t know if this has something to do with the update, but now i actually stay logged in, which is what i wanted, but before that, i had to log in every time i visited the site again…

  58. bsomebody says: 3

Maybe I should repost my fix-it ’structions:

Okay, M. Here is how to fix it.
    1) Slap your ‘puter.
    2) Reboot.
    3) Hard reboot.
    4) Delete history and clean out the cookie jar.
    5) Defrag and virus scan.
    6) Unplug ‘puter and read a book.
    This works for me, everytime.

Now, I will try to edit.

  59. Che Volay says: 2

    I’m here to find out

I’m in the edit now, will see if I get locked up here

and yes I did once again

  60. bsomebody says: 1

    Ha!
Is the edit any better over here?
