Can someone help me understand something..
If (for example)
£1 was worth $1 today but last week £1 was 89 cents … does that mean that the the price has gone up in America?
If yesterday, 1 Pound = 1 Dollar
and last week, 1 Pound = 89 cents,
then the dollar has increased in value compared to the Pound. Does this mean “the price has gone up”? Well, it means I can import more Coleman’s mustard from the UK than I could last week. So UK items are cheaper for me. In the UK, they must pay more to import French’s Mustard from the US, so from the UK point of view, the price has gone up.
(BTW, Coleman’s is much better mustard.)

When you visit the Sexy Geek of the Year top rated page, at first blush you might think Marina is only about 3000 or so behind. When you account for the down arrow votes, Marina is actually 10,000 votes behind, but slowy gaining. She is now only 9,987 votes behind Phil.
I am tracking the voting progress in Excel for right now. If I have time will automate the process on a web site and maybe Captain can insert a graphic up above so we can track the action live.

As far as I know, in the context of finding those ever elusive word origins, all word requests are on the table, so you don’t need to feel like a ‘perv’. The more interesting the history or origin of a word, the more likely will the word be done.

Look at Marina’s down arrows. I think, (but, not sure) that the up and down arrows combined are used as the metric for determining the lead. If that is true, then the SxePhil people have most likely done that.
I agree, I don’t down vote anyone else, but since we need to beat SxePhil, and if the combined up-down numbers count, then at minimum, we also need to down vote SxePhil, besides up voting Marina.
I’ll try to get clarification on the combined up-down metrics, unless someone knows for sure and can fill us in.
According to what I read on the site above the areas where you start voting that since there are numerous entries for certain people like Marina that all of the votes on different entries will count toward her at the end of the contest. I vote thumbs down for all of the rest as it should count against them.

I don’t recall a 40 K entry on that Geek contest site.
The picture of Marina in the pink top was around 4 K
and Phil’s was around 14-18 K.
By having those multiple entries, Marina’s votes skyrocketed. The votes are periodically consolidated and rolled up into one number. It seems that the entry where Marina is wearing the pink top is the rolled up count.

I didn’t pay that much attention at the time or really think about it much but now it seems that all the top votes had more. I also remember it being further back in time more like several weeks ago now …..
o well …..
It kind of stinks that there are so many separate nominations for Marina in that list. I understand that they will consolidate them, but it would be nice to see a more accurate placing for our teacher.
BTW: I voted and gave a neg to that dude – hehe.

Thank you for downvoting Phil. As you can see there are many down votes for Marina’s entry and I’m sure that the Phil camp is determined on winning. Continue to down vote anyone ahead of Marina, when voting for Marina.

Why not vote for ALL of the Marina entries? That must be allowed since they are separate entries and they all get aggregated into one so it’s a good way to vote for Marina multiple times.

It will not let me edit. Hmm… Anyhooz, I think M should sign the 50 new calendars. To ensure they actually get to HFWers, I have a plan.
The Plan:Che will pick me up in his pickup truck (loaded with burritos for the trip.) We will stop by the printers and pick up 50 new calendars and deliver them to M. We will wait patiently while M and Gorby sign the calendars based off the HFW website comments. (PK will provide an algorithm used to weight the quality of each comment, multiplied by number of comments, to the factor of number of days contributing.) M will make a fine dinner for us, and nice fluffy pillows for us to crash on the floor before the long trek. Che and I will then set out in the truck to hand deliver all the calendars. Each recipient must provide a meal and a couch for the night. Sounds like a great plan!
Oh yeah, M, we need to make sure that hitoshi, chemikail, Bob, James, and MissCC get one, just to make the trip worth it. (I hope Che's truck has those big ol' superinflatable tires.
) And mijj will need a calendar, too; I've always wanted to see Liverpool.
