Sports are team games where you learn friendship, teamwork and hard work. Not to mention setting goals. Ken Dryden was an amazing goalie in the NHL and also got a degree in university. One must be sound in body and mind so why can’t you do both? I am sure that Marina stays physically active. Why is competition such a bad thing? Is that not what brings the best out of some people in sports AND academics? What are scholarships? And why would a scholarship be any different from a college draft?

I am not rooting for any team. It’s my sincere opinion that sports, with the possible exception of motorsports, is a silly waste of time and resources. The money, time and effort that’s wasted on grown men chasing balls around could have been used to find the cure for cancer and herpes and put a human on Mars. People spending millions on sports while children starve is an abomination.

As I was scribbling this piece I was struck with a mini epiphany … I have no freakin’ clue what “universe” is supposed to mean and/or encompass (all of space-time? all of the purported 12 or 13 1/2 dimensions of string theory and reality itself?). The term “putative” here was used in the sense of “so-called” while referring to a simplified “classic universe” abstraction in the closed-universe sense the various physicists/cosmologists have historically liked to kick around while confusing both themselves and everybody around them with wild butt-pull theories. I dug the “bizarro universe” in Superman and the machine simulated universe in “The Matrix” … if we’re gonna get creative let the real creative genius types (comic book writers and screenwriters) take over please. 
What about the M.I.B. version of the universe?
They compared us with rats living in a locker of some higher being’s reality.
I like that idea, because reality is only what you can perceive!
Take dogs for example, they don’t know that colors exists, because they only see in back and white.

Yeah, I also noticed there are not many sports nuts here. Personally I am a Giants fan, but only watch a couple games a year. I’ll watch the Super Bowl, mostly for the commercials – hehe. I don’t care who wins, but I do hope is an exciting game.

Hello Marina,
[This is an idea for a potential lesson concerning the birth (origin) not of a word but of a mind: water. I do not really know if a lesson can be created based on the following idea, but -- you are ingenious -- and so I would like to offer it for your consideration.]
The basis for the idea is a particular scene from the movie The Miracle Worker (1962 version). While a baby, Helen Keller (played Patty Duke) becomes deaf and is growing up to be unruly. Anne Sullivan (played by Anne Bancroft) is hired as a care taker. Anne does not want to merely care for Helen the way one would care for an animal — Anne actually wants to teach Helen to think. Helen learns to spell words through a sign language — but Helen treats words as a parrot would — just arbitrary sounds with no meaning/referents. Then one day, Helen finally understands that W-A-T-E-R means the liquid she feels flowing out of a hand-pump! There is a very dramatic scene in the movie that shows Helen grasping what W-A-T-E-R really means — that scene depicts the birth (origin) not of a word but of a mind.
Even if the scene cannot be used in a lesson, even if [water] is not a good word to explain on HFW, that movie is excellent to watch!

If you’re a die hard fan, there’s a 50/50 chance whether or not you’ll have it identify or ruin your life (see Buffalo Fans). If you’re a fan of competition, which I think you are, you can take it or leave it.

It would be nice if the Cardinals would win on Sunday, because they’ve never been to a Superbowl, before. To bad Patrick Tillman, a former player for the Cardinals, didn’t live to see the day the Cardinals were in the Superbowl. I actually think the Steelers will win on Sunday, but we can’t be certain. They actually have to play well to win the game.
