I never even thought about the true meaning of touchdown.
It’s good to get back to the roots of the terminology, and stuff. That was one of the best Super Bowls of all time. Naturally, the team I was rooting for lost. Funny how the word,“root”, can have two such diverse and unrelated meanings.

I’m already up past my bedtime. I don’t remember what the homework was but just had to log in and vote for hs4mm.

That was the best video response that I’ve seen albeit I haven’t been around that long.

    Some seriously, wicked sh** :!:

    Pretty good Soupbowl too. Goodnight

It says “this video is no longer available” on your YT page.

Tell me Pepsi took it down and I’ll die.

    Hello Marina,

I uploaded a video response — both to pepsi (touchdown) and to you (steelers).

In the past, I have recorded videos about 10 times — all for my own private use — to help me improve my performance of magic; this is my first video for the general public.

I am a beginning magician, but I think I got the technique right.

(Used Logitech QuickCam Pro for Windows XP Pro laptop and captured directly/remotely using YouTube “Upload by Quick Capture” technique.)

i like to know what the word ju-juitsu means

    • stebakle says: 56.1

      Hi DJE
The JU part is a word for softness/gentleness. The JUITSU part is a variant of the word JITSU which means combative art. Thus Ju-Juitsu is a combative art of gentleness.
Like Judo and Aikido [do is a way of personal enlightenment], a Ju-Juitsu student attempts to use the opponent’s size, strength, and momentum against him. Here is a quote from THREE BUDO MASTERS by John Stevens,
“Several old texts…defined Judo as the ‘the path that follows the flow of things,’ which in Kodokan Judo [founder] Kano interpreted as the ‘most efficient use of energy.’”
This might be more than you wanted, and I’m sure you would [as would we all!] prefer to see Lady M explain this, but I just wanted to do my part [she's a busy person, after all]

In about 35 minutes I will be incommunicado…
I have no emotional investment in this game, but I do need the Steelers to win by 6.5 points to win the pool.
So I’m hoping for a good close game.

    { send your bets and picks via pay pal to Che…….}

  19. labbatt78 says: 50

Someone said: “Football: For a game it is too much. For a fight it is not enough”.

  23. Not the football theme, but amusing-
I just heard that our inept “leaders” in D.C. have included something in the spending package they are calling the Bad Asset Repository Fund. And, of course, the acronym for that is…(drum roll here, please)…B.A.R.F.

I will give as much love to my teacher as my teacher will allow me to give. Thanks for the history of the word Touchdown. I will attempt to dazzle everybody at Buffalo Wild Wings with my new found knowledge.

    GO Cardinals,
    GO Marina.

Thanks you Bill o’Reilly for bringing you to my attention

Question: In the dialog box one gets when one goes to log into the HFW site, what is the icon below the word “words”?

  27. hs4mm says: 42

    .

    Marina,

Sometimes a face mask like the one you are wearing — a face mask that has see through gaps — on a woman can communicate the protection of a valued, feminine vulnerability, but that is not the effect you are going for in this video.

  28. hs4mm says: 41

    Hello Marina,

For some time now, I have been thinking about the need for action in your videos, but hadn’t come up with anything to say. I do want to say something about your action in this video.

You do a serious throw — as though you are inviting football coaches to evaluate you for recruitment into their team. A very important point is that this style very good. A contrasting style would be to throw like a fool to make people laugh at you — that would be very bad. An example of this bad style is Shaycarl’s recent cheerleader video.

Shaycarl’s antics are not attractive — not because he is a fat slob, but because he is being ridiculous. One can watch your action repeatedly and be aroused by it each time — not just because you are attractive, but because you are serious in the execution.

Contrary to the popular view about it being good “to laugh at oneself”, I maintain, very seriously, that one must never demean oneself, never ever. (”Naughty-fied”, the first time, is not such an act — that is just you reviewing your video and making a note to yourself and apologizing to your audience, in a humorous way, about a minor, inadvertent slip in pronunciation. That is not an act of making fun of oneself — rather, it is an act of pride — an act of wanting to produce a good product.)

    –Hs4Mm
    .

    • hs4mm says: 41.1

PS: Not sure how clear I am in the above, but you are not parodying a throw, you are not parodying a football player, you are really doing a throw — you actually want to show (to act out) what a real throw looks like.

      • BillyB says: 41.1.1

What you’re trying to say is “she doesn’t throw like a girl”?
I didn’t want to overanalyze her style, since she wasn’t throwing a real ball, was a virtual ball, to be added later… but she does have “good form” I agree. The look on her face after the second throw was priceless.
My wife grew up on the beach and doesn’t “throw like a girl”, because of the hours upon hours spent throwing rocks at her brothers & other targets in the water. She has a smoother, more fluid style of throw than I.

        • hs4mm says: 41.1.1.1

          .

I am not saying anything about the quality of the throw — the quality of the throw is irrelevant here. What is important here is the intent. When a small boy throws a ball, he does not throw with the attitude “Hey people, look at my feeble attempts and laugh at me!” — the boy throws with the serious attitidue of “I want to throw like the big boys and I can!”

          –Hs4Mm
          .

          • What I was saying is, that Marina looks like she has some throwing experience. My wife’s & My style of throwing developed from repetition with intent, as you say, to hit the target, acheive the goal, fulfill the purpose, of the thow. If I try to throw lefthanded, for instance, I cannot make it look anything less than hilarious, and the likelyhood of acheiving the desired result will ultimately “Fail”.

        • James says: 41.1.1.2

She throws the brains of stupid people into her HD moat

        • hs4mm says: 41.1.1.3

BillyB, this is actually a response to your #comment-107702:

Thanks; your remarks point out a distinction I should have made in my #comment-107697. The little boy is not trying to be like the big boys in the sense of an actor imitating the big boys; the little boy wants to hit his target successfully just as the big boys do.

    • hs4mm says: 41.2

PPS: Cheerleading is a good thing; and one does not laugh at or make fun of good things.

  29. orion_ss1 says: 40

Good explanation but it leaves unanswered [ touchback ] and [ safety ], and though fairly apparent you may want to mention [ fieldgoal ].

  30. I was looking forward to a Cheer Leader’s uniform, but since the video has been made for two days I understand. You still look gorgeous in your Cardinal colored dress or close to the color of a Cardinal.

  31. HEY GUYS ATTENTION. Some one has gone to Marina’s YT site and thumbed down all of the good comments. I thumbed up as many as YT would let me for now as it has a number it will only let you do at a time. So go give the thumbs up hell folks so we can put them back on top.
    Wetsuit got hit 6 times.

  32. Great video M, did Gorby ever get to your flowers and eat them? He looked very hungry.
Why don’t you ad an add to your videos like PopTub does. I helps pay the bills and it doesn’t distract from the lesson. I wouldn’t feel it would make you look like your going commercial. You have to expand and make a decent living also.

  33. James says: 36

How will a new lesson be ever released. this has been up 2 days and has 600 views!

  34. James says: 35

Marina, take a look at the video we made for you on your birthday. It has a high quality option on the embedded video.

  35. Chemikal says: 34

Why is it called the Super Bowl anyway?
Why not the Super Blow, or the Soup Bowl, or something else?

  36. pagedoll says: 33

So are you telling us that you’re going to be in a Super Bowl ad during the game? Because if you are I now have a reason to watch!

  38. Game Zone Plan A

For every touchdown (or “non-touchdown”), I will have a Pepsi and a Hotdog… with fried onions and mustard. For every first down, I will have three smoked mussels on a cracker. For every fumble, I will scratch my nuts and go… “no way!” to the TV set.

To be honest I don’t know anything about the American Football but suddenly it becames a world-wide new… but its only played in US… :???: :???:

  40. bobsully says: 26

I know YouTube has been your springboard to fame, but I had forgotten about the rude, offensive and immature comments that are commonly left there. I accidentally viewed one of your updates from there rather than your website.

Anyway I am so excited that you’ve attracted a big name like Pepsi® My prediction is coming true…one day you will be a Mega star!!! Furthermore, the world will speak a little better, or at least a little wiser because of it.

Plus let’s face it, you not only HotForWords, you’re just plain Hot.

  41. Che Volay says: 25

Superbowl Sundays are so quiet in a small town. At kickoff time the main street through town is deserted except for a few women.

  42. James says: 24

I hate that. Why do americans call foot ball football when they dont play it with their feet!!!

    • buzzword says: 24.1

@james, i agree with you. i usually use the term “gridiron football” or “american football” to distinguish between the u.s. sport and what the rest of the world appropriately recognizes as football. i prefer the term gridiron because it also includes other variations such as the form played in canada as well. the name for u.s. football should have changed as soon as they started catching and throwing the ball with their hands.

    • I think Marina already did that lesson.

  43. hs4mm says: 23

    .

Did my homework — rated and actually wrote two (2) comments. Now let me congratulate you, Marina: Congratulations on the Pepsi deal! (You recommended buckhollywood to Pepsi?)

You actually released this video 2 days ago. Glad you turned Gorby into a stuffed animal when he started messing with the roses — (them I know those is grammatically correct …) them roses must be precious to you!

Dear совершенная Марина Орлова, Thank you for posting your video so early, and well before the Superbowl game! This way, I’ll plan on enjoying the game.
You are the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen wearing a football helmet, and I like your enthusiasm in throwing a football for a “touchdown!”
You were nice to your students because you didn’t have a homework question, so we can enjoy the game.
This game will be broadcast in many parts of the world by Armed Forces Television and Radio service, and last year, there were 148 million viewers in the US, alone. Some of the most expensive TV commercials will be broadcast, and the extra-long halftime show will have songs by Bruce Springsteen. I plan to enjoy the show! (Yes, I’d love to play “touch” football with you, someday!)

I suppose you have to be a computer programmer like you to REALLY appreciate it.

While I think of it — not to be a downer, but — did you hear that Microsoft just laid off 5000 of their employees? You’re probably looking at finding a specialized niche for your abilities in this job market — like writing Romanian-friendly software.

By the way, (since I live not too far from Microsoft), if your job hunt should bring you to this area, I could probably find a place for you to stay. Send me an email at my YouTube account (just click my name above) and I’ll send you my contact info.

      • Free housing, maybe? That would be too cool!
Can I bring my pet LION? We’re inseparable you know. :D
Thank you for the vote of confidence, and for the offer!
I still have two more years to complete my studies.

I don’t really agree with Microsoft’s business attitude, they are way too aggressive and they even broke the law, just to stay on top.
Did you know that Netscape was the first to create a web browser? It’s called the Netscape Navigator, and they were completely destroyed by Gates because they refused to sell themselves to him.

I won’t go into details now, the story is public. Why do you think that IE had such a wide reach? Because it was forced down the throats of all Windows users, even though it was poor and unstable. They made an embarrassing copy after Netscape and people just didn’t know any better.

Though I don’t know what I would say to a possible job at Microsoft, I mean if the money is right, it will be hard to say no, I guess. But I’m very interested to liking my workplace, otherwise I just wouldn’t have much productivity, would I? :)

        • Oops, I didn’t mean to imply free housing for an extended time, but possibly for a few days if you were doing interviews in this area. BTW, I have a nephew who works at Microsoft.

Yes, I remember Netscape, and the whole furor when Microsoft crowded them out of the market.

I’m really ticked off at Microsoft for rewriting Excel and Word, rearranging menus so that I have to hunt for common commands I used to execute almost instantly, by touch. Seems like they have this “one size fits all” attitude, and the size is XXXL. Wouldn’t it be great if their programs had several degrees of complexity (e.g. Excel 1,2,3,4,5) depending on the needs of their users — simple menus for those with simple computing needs?

          • You can stick to your old Office 2003 pack, and nothing would change. How did you end up having a new type of Office anyway?

Did you say that your nephew works for MS? That’s great, do you think I could get some feedback from him, on how things are being done there?

Or I shouldn’t try to be a bother, maybe I’ll find out more online. I want to know what the openings are, and all about the payment plans, for [noob] engineers, right off the faculty’s benches, such as myself. :)

I miss the old lessons, I’m not reticent towards rugby, I respect the fact that some people like it, but it just doesn’t amuse me much, not on the field, and not on HFW. :P

It makes for a very short lesson… and it just doesn’t give me the daily brain shake, that I got so used to having after watching a new lesson. :-)

That’s just my take, keep up the good work! ;)

  59. I even Twittered the video, but changed the default “Reading” to “Watching”. Dang, I almost said “Touching”. You can’t touch that.

  60. For those that didn’t see my previous post,
    Congratulations again Marina on
