Oh Highly-Hot Heatful One, I beg mercy for the lateness of my reply!
My favorite singer changes often. Most-recently it’s Natasha Bedingfield, but before it’s been George Jones, Phil Collins, Michael Jackson, Cledus T. Judd, “Weird” Al, Michael Crawford, Sting … and usually me (though I’m sure you could fit into that list too!)
Since watching the Grammys, I have a new favourite singer.
James Hetfield and Maynard James Keenan

[Valentine]
Hey, Sparky, Marina did a video on Valentines’ Day last year in which she said that the day is named from a Roman Saint named Valentine.
Well, you know what I mean …
However, what she didn’t do in that video is to say where the name Valentine came from or how many Saints had the name.
[Hotforwords must reveal more! ]
I watched the BAFTA awards, last night .

With admiration and envy,

Marina,
I think you should have received a Grammy for your Grandfather Clock Song… That should have been song of the year……..
All right this is funny, mature subject matter I Want to Bone the Little Mermaid
Funny stuff! Kinda makes you wonder who Disney’s target audience really is…
A Disney movie comes out and the kids go: “Aw, can we go see a movie about dogs in space, pleeeeeeezzzzzeeee!!!” & then parents have no say in the matter since they all wind up going to see the movie together
Marina, are you sleeping in this morning? Maybe your are still at a party, fill us in on last night haps, we want details.
Last night…Jo Stafford—You Belong To Me.…this song was co-wrote by a local guy and he had died(PeeWeeKing) a couple years ago. Did you have fun? HotForWords is a fun thing**:-)&**(-:**

So how does your house look like Marina ? I’m trying to find it in Google Earth
The street view thingy is awesome
Very funny.
not really , its like a spy satellite , only its not a live feed
Who has had the same gravatar for the longest amount of time here? I think it could be Marina, then me, then CaptnJ
I change mine every few weeks or so. I remember that you have changed yours occasionally, although for just a couple of days.
Busted!
I’ve had mine since last June… until I changed it a few days ago.
I thought you had a reindeer with a red nose.
{Wags an accusing finger at pagedoll.}
You got me!
Yep, and a few Santas and a really weird terminator smiley face at one point, but I can almost guarantee the next time you see Cinderella-ella-ella anywhere you’ll think of pagedoll and the HFW site. huh? huh?

I’m still using the official coroner’s report photo they shot when I was first “discovered.” You should see me now!
I didn’t know Katy Perry was Bisexual, so she really did Kiss a Girl & then some…..
Marina is she a friend of yours?
I think Katy Perry may also have originally been a blonde.
That would make her also bihairial.
Hello Marina, I was wondering if [Gorgeous] and [Gorge] came from the same word since the first part sound similar but seem to mean completely different things. Thank You:)
So is the full moon keeping you up?
Are you out doing crazy things?
Vampire ….
It’s hard to pick just one single favorite singer/vocalist, but off the top of my cranium — Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden.
[Orgasm] and [Masterbation] are good words i agree with u guys. I third those words and i hope Marina makes a video on them. It be awesome!!!!
[masturbation]
If you guys keep asking her for the same word over and over, it might rub her the wrong way.
Marina if can i call you that. Please do masterbation or orgasm they both are very good words. I give props to iloveprettyrussians5. Using one of those words will make great video. From your biggest fan vinnythewordman12321!!!
You give props for masturbation
I don’t see anyone giving you props, back! – LOL!
If he’s masturbating so much he’s probably a tripod by now, so he won’t need any props.

Good to hear from you, Amigo.
Just stopped in to say a quick hi. I’m still working on some other solutions that will solve my internet access issues.
You would think being in the land of Microsoft, internet would not be an issue.
Many internet providers have shut down wireless hotspots. Even the busses had hotspots that now have been taken offline. I will be going back to Clearwire service again but with some new enclosures that might solve some problems I have been expericing in the past
. I had hope that their new WiMax to go live this month but due to other factors that has been pushed back until 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2009. I had used CW in the past but the service was very slow. The promise of WiMax coming out of 3rd quarter (2008) is why I signed up. I hate being at the mercy of big businesses.
Anywho, Just wanted to say hi. I missed you all. Going through HotForWords withdrawls is quite painful. Hope with in the week I’ll be back online.

M favortie singer: Freddy Mercury, lead singer for Queen. Not just a singer but a great entertainer. That guy was cool. Ahh poor Freddy.
Here’s a little joke for you.
A man walks into a bar and sits down at the counter and asks for a beer. The bar keep sees that the man is sad so he asks him if he could help him. The man says that he got fired from his job so he came up north to see if he could find another job. The bar keep asked him what did he do before. The man said he was a dog catcher in a very small town in Georgia. The bar keep asked him if he messed up on the job or did the job just run out of money.
The man said no he was fired because he caught the dog.
THE dog
Funny!
Marina, have you got a greenscreen? Also, your arm fades into the wall slightly..
When I get my HD camera I might go the fabric shop.. buy a big green bit of fabric
Don’t tell your parents and just paint your wall green in your bedroom.
It’s being decorated soon.
The site is really flying for me now… 3 second load time, excellent!
At my great uncle’s cabin at Lake Tahoe, they had an acoustic wind-up record grammophone (without the big horn). There was only one record, which I played over and over each time we visited. This is as close to it as I can find on YT (not that I care much for the tremelo in his voice). You will have to imagine the lo-fi, tinny sound of the steel needle for yourself.
There was a Victrola player (like the one in the classic picture with the cute little dog looking curiously at the horn) in the upper attic of the old farmhouse I grew up in. It still worked. The sound I recall very tinny. Mind blow : in less than 100 years technology advances from Victrolas to CD/DVD/Blue Ray players. However, 100 years from now the chance of a CD/DVD/Etc. player from today still working = 0! The progress of technology….
Music tastes : eclectic, mutable with time/mood/temperature/phase of moon, no standout favorites. Liked the beat in Eminem, Lose Yourself. Like EJ and Levon, Rocket Man. McCartney smooth vocalist in almost everything : Live and Let Die. Tyler and Dream On. The cat who sang Dream Weaver. Stevie Nicks. Kenny Rogers. All great.
I believe I would get it from the attic, clean it up as it is probably worth quite a bit of money and place it somewhere in your house as a nice antique.
The attic exists no more as the whole house was renovated … torn down to foundation and built back up long ago. I am not sure what happened to the Victrola but I hope it survived in some way and is gracing someone’s living quarters as a quaint remembrance of times gone past (kind of eerie listing to it play music from back then on records from back then, like the music is time tripping into the future via the wonders of the magical Victrola time machine). Lot of cobwebs in the way of my picture memory from back then but I think it had the little-dog- looking-at-horn emblem on it, it was the “real mccoy”.
Beneath the logo it reads, “His master’s voice.”
That would be Radio Company of America (RCA) unless I miss my guess. Cool. I have a bunch of old 78 rpm platters but no Victrola on which to spin ‘em. My turntable only does 33&1/3 or 45 rpms. Dang!
BTW, Dream Weaver was sung by Gary Wright. A one-hit wonder if’n I ever did see one! Green-Eyed Lady by Sugarloaf is another classic one-hit wonder. Man, they were great!
Rocket Man is my favorite of all Sir Elton’s works.
It’s Radio Corporation of America.
The dog’s name was Nipper.
One of our horses had a colt which was named “Nipper” because it had a tendency to sneak up on you and chomp you one on your arm or shoulder or back if you were not looking. Nippy fiery tempered little thing she was!

Hey Marina i was wondering were the the phrase, “Hurts like the dickens.” I not shure if its a local phrase but im sure you could find out for me. Thanks again
The phrase is often used with many words, e.g. “funny as…, ” “smells like…,” “as hot as…” and so forth. Obviously it is associated with Charles Dickens, but maybe M can tell us how it came to be.
Any Idears ? Whats that all about. Got to love her. Marina you look Hot in that black dress .Did you when a grammy ?..You should have. also trying to find the origin of the word [saran dipity] can ya help me please.
Hi kjmty2 I think you mean Serendipity. Marina has already done a
leeson on that word! Chech it out! http://www.hotforwords.com/2007/06/25/serendipity-lucky-discovery/
I have many favorites… Anne Murray, Linda Ronstadt, Nancy Wilson. What I don’t like are the females with barely-audible, breathy voices that require amplification; a good singer should be able to cut steel with her voice like N.W.
Did you notice some defects in the defects? The record click and pop sounds superimposed over the audio were not consistant groove-to-groove. There would be one click per revolution, followed by two clicks and back to one click. Real scratches have the same number of clicks per rev, at least until you advance to a different part of the record. Also, in the Ukelele vid, there are white lines and black lines. The white lines are scratches made from the many playings of a positive (that which the viewer sees in a theather). Black lines would be scratches in the original negative, which, while theoretically possible, would not normally occur, because the original negative is not normally run through a machine repeatedly, and, even if it was, it would be in the dust-free environment of a photo lab where scratches would be unlikely. I guess the effects fakers didn’t stop to think.

I would like to know the origin of the [damsel in distress]. The phrase itself is, of course, straightforward–but it seems to be historically prominent in Western literature. Can you shed any light on how this archetype character came to be so common?

Proof that Intelligence is Sexy based on the history of sculpture:
At one time, the Greeks used to think that women were not fit for dealing with reality and so considered them unimportant — this view led them to depict women shabbily in sculptures (see Kore from the Acropolis, stone, h: 0.51 m, c. 480 B.C. (Acropolis Museum, Athens) . Then, some women started demonstrating their intellect in Greek day to day life. After the Greeks saw women as intellectual beings, they started depicting women in sculpture as exquisitely beautiful and valued beings on earth (see Aphrodite of Cyrene (Venus Anadyomene), copy of original 3rd – 2nd cent. B.C., marble, h: just under life-size, c. 1st cent. B.C. (Terme Museum, Rome)).

I will definitely be on the look out for you at the Grammys! It’s great you’re doing so many exciting things!
I’m a huge fan of female vocals, so choosing a favorite would be impossible. But if I must supply one of many, it would be Santessa.
Van Morrison
Susan Tedeschi are a couple of my TOP favorite singers.
Uh-oh, the Lady is doing some house keeping, again. I hope I can find my way back when I wake up this evening.

Thank you. Oh, we’ll (Mrs_Swede and I) be watching for you tonight!
My fav singer is Patty Loveless. Aretha Franklin comes in at a solid # 2. Bill Medley @ no. 3. Mary Travis has to be mentioned, even though I can’t hack folk music anymore, not since the ’60’s.
Pink has a great blues voice, and I wish she’d lean harder in that direction. Billy Holiday was great. Bob Marley had a great voice. I almost forgot Dusty Springfield.
What about the word [Lunch]? Seems like it shoved the term [dinner] ahead a few hours, and then [dinner] inched out [supper] for the name of the evening meal.
Nice dress
Nearly 400 vids!! And the zombie voice at the beginning makes me think it nust have been a full moon.
From the timbre, I think it was M’s voice frequency-shifted downwards.
Hmm, Marina, I don’t know much about this but shouldn’t the title be
Grammies?
it’s spelled the way Hollywood (or Recordville, in this case) has always spelled it…
Mariana
……I really have no favorite singer. All I listen too anymore is mostly classic rock and country and have never really paid much attention to whom the singing artist was. If I had too choose I suppose i would say Shania Twain. Whom is your fav singer?
anastacia…
along with Eros Ramazotti – and here’s why: my favorite song, hands-down, ever…
Fabulous; two voices that raise the hairs on the back of your neck.
Their voices complement each other very well. His voice reminds me of Bob Seger’s in Turn the Page.
One of the few songs that Bob Seger actually sings that I like, and I really like it.
Hi gorgeous!
What about the word [Hanky Panky]
ByeBye

Now that’s a word! Although I think it’s hyphenated. I second the nomination! [hanky-panky]

Hey Marina, I know it’s getting close to valentines day but here i am with a [BROKEN HEART], could really use some cheering up. can’t wait to see you on the grammies, lol.
Anna Netrebko, ex “floor washer” another Russian worldbeater… uh ha
If you get a chance Marina, go see “Marina Poplavskaya”, she is in LA in May & early June, in the production of La Traviata . I hated Opera when I was younger… until I saw a prodution of this opera, with Canadian soprano Teresa Stratas singing (acting) the part of “Violetta”… By the end I was sobbing and it did surprise the heck out of me for more than a couple of reasons.
If you’re scared to go alone… take “PK” along with you… and, umm… make him pay for the tickets. It’d be good for him as well… be a life changing experience for sure.
BTW looks like Teresa Stratas was in a couple of Grammy winners in the 80’s… & also went to Calcutta, worked with Mother Teresa, caring for the dying kids at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalighat_Home_for_the_Dying & later going to Romania to wash cots & again care for the sick & dying orpans… Oh wiki…
Well anyways looks like I’m not even going to come close to using up my alotted 1500 characters, although I could contin…
I’m getting Dean Martin love songs in the google ad bar LOL. Does google know how old I am… er… getting creepy now.

Evan, have you heard Pavorati and U2 Miss Sarajevo. It will almost make you cry; it is a beautiful arrangement.
Call me crazy, but Jackie Lee’s kids theme tune for ‘White Horses’ has a perculiar effect on me.
Can’t really pic a favourite singer, so: SuperTramp, Heart, Quarterflash, PinkFloyd, Goldfrapp, some Agnetha Faltskog, Bjork, Cocteau Twins, Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to heaven’ played forward or backwards
, The Sweet & Suzi Quatro (Glam rock is great at partys), Ute Lempur, Thomas Dolby (I scare myself)… this-that-and-the-other.
Jeorney, I do not call you crazy…Wake Up Little Suzi & 48 Crash…Glam rock and Suzi Quatro still parties!!!good morning
Each time I play Suzi or the Sweet, everyone hits the floor with a frenzied passion.
Hey, you should check out “chocotiger” on YouTube….he plays piano beautifully, especially Scott Joplin [ragtime] tunes…”The Entertainer” is great!
My daughter is learning that song and my husband and I wondered where the term [ragtime] came from to describe that popular music from the turn of the last century?
Hmm… I know this one. I don’t think the answer would fit into M’s categorie. If you want my take on it, let me know.
I WOULD like to know your theory on the origin of the term [rag time]…so do reply! No teasing with “wink, wink”!!
I have not yet seen “chocotiger’s” guitar playing, but the guy is talented.
The rythm was synchopated, meaning the emphasis was not the traditional 1 2 3 4, but had some accent on the 2 and 4 beats. Even further, much of the emphasis was between beats, giving the rythm a “ragged” sound. This type of rythm was later one of the defining features of rock n roll. Rock, typically has a more pronounced back-beat (2 and 4) with some synchopation, while ragtime was especially synchopated with some back-beat (but they did not use that term.)
I have had chocotiger as a YT subscription from the start. He plays the rags at just the right speed and is perfect. He has recently taken up guitar, but it’s not as near as good as his piano. Anyway, it is hard to deny his gifts.
Was that a Fred Figglehorn imitation at the start???
Loved the Monty Python kick!
Aaahhh, if only we could speed up all such award speeches…and IDEAR???? I haven’t heard that one since the hogs ate my baby brother!!!

Does anyone really like to hear ‘Christmas Musac’?
It’s one of my pet hates, especially when played in an elevator.
I think it is mostly people cashing in on Christmas for their own benefit, unless they are doing it to benefit some charity other than their Christmas booze cabinet.
If that’s a pet hate, then quit petting it and take the stairs.
What annoys me is how the stores want to cash in on Christmas so much, but avoid even using the word! And the songs they usually play have zero reference to the Babe of Bethlehem.
Stores (and those who work there or invest in them) have to make a living, too. You can’t blame them for competing with the competition. It is up to the government to limit the time frame (if that is constitutionally possible).
I think there should be no Christmas stuff until at least after Thanksgiving Day, preferably Dec. first. I wouldn’t object to advertising before then as long as there was no Christmas music or theme to it. Surely they are clever enough to do that.
Ha! I’ve implemented a better idea – I don’t even go into the stores any more.
You won’t believe this!
My wife has Thai TV on in the next room and they’re playing, “We wish you a Merry Christmas, We wish you a Merry Christmas, We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.” over and over again.
It’s doing me head in! Serves me right for complaining, I guess.
Capman here is some trivia I found in the Old Farmer’s Almanac:
Why did old-time fire trucks have dogs (usually dalmatians) on board? Were the dogs just mascots, or did they serve some purpose?
Answer:
Originally, dogs ran in front of horse-drawn steam engines, barking loudly to alert pedestrians and vehicles so the fire wagon could pass unhindered. Dalmatians were fit and loyal enough for this work, and they got along well with the horses. With the advent of gasoline-powered fire engines, the dalmatians weren’t really needed any longer, but they became a kid-friendly symbol of the honorable profession of fire fighting.
Dalmatians are amazing dogs.
And firefighters are amazing people, so I think it’s enough to notice the match, to know why they like sticking together.
“They” said that the siren’s do not bother Dalmation’s ears like they do other dogs’. I have no idea if there is any truth in this or not. Mebbe Capman has the 411.
Guessing in the days of horse drawn fire wagons sirens would not be in use, most likely the wagons were equipped with a bell.
http://www.littlehelpers.co.uk/files/thumbnails/t_72.jpg
I meant that was the reason why Dalmations are the dog of choice these days. I don’t know if the older rigs worked primarily with Dalmations or other dogs. I don’t know alot about this entire subject, but I ain’t toopid.
That reminds me of one of our family’s Kodak moments. When I was of kindergarten age, we lived temporarily in some barracks at Enid AFB, OK (until we could find off-base housing) and ate at the chow hall. On Thanksgiving Day, we and the other families were standing in front of the chow hall doors waiting for them to open up. My sister, two years younger, grew impatient and blurted out, “Open the door, toopid!” Everyone laughed, because that is what we all were thinking.
Were Dalmations the earliest form of vehicle theft alarm?
That ’splains alot.
Thank you, Ms. Marina, Your classes have made my sense of “ennui” leave the building…Life is good!….
Well, now. This is weird. The recent comments are updating quicker in “Grammys” than it is in “Adopt a word.” Odd.

So, Grammy comes from Gramaphone, and the Oscar is because Betty Davis said it looked like her ex husband, Oscar. So why is an Emmy called an Emmy?
And Marina… if you want to hear a really awsome Ukulele player, check out Lyle Ritz.

idk who my favorite singer is
My favourite singer is Whitney Houston. She was able to flawlessly hit those high notes in “I Will Always Love You” with the aid of a little modern audio mastering technology. Josh Groban’s a close second, though.

Hmm… My favorite singer. Again, I like to mix things up. My ipod has some Skynnard, Buckcherry, Janis Joplin, lots of U2. If I had to choose just one, it would have to be Neil Diamond. No, really.
honorable mention: Peter Gabriel, Chrissy Hinde (Pretenders), the Clash, Dire Straits (Mark Knopfler is my absolute favorite guitar player), Mr. Mojo Risin, Heart, the Who, all the bands that sent guys to the Travellin’ Wilburys, Ted Nugent, Stones, Pink Floyd, Newsboys, Offspring, Kinks, Melissa Etheridge, Garbage, Barlowgirl, and, of course, Hendrix.
Yeah, that’s a pretty good start.
I LOVE THAT song crazy bitch. I can’t remember who posted the link now

hello I wonder about the word (footjob)
Where does the phrase [whole nine yards] come from?
Bob, isn’t that the amount of cloth needed to make a Scotsman’s kilt? (There’s a lot of pleats in it!)
My initial reaction to that question was, “I haven’t a clew*
“, but on investigation I doubt it.
This site mentions that “an 8-yard kilt will accommodate up to a 46″ hip/seat measurement. If you’re over that, you’ll need more fabric.”, so to go the whole 9 yards would mean being overly generous indeed.
As The Phrase Finder points out, ‘no one is 100% sure of the origin’, and there are probably as many theories as there are people who have pondered the question.
However, the first documented use of the phrase seems to have happened after the early 1960s:-

I forgot my old time favorite Hank Williams Sr.!
Some of my musician friends are up for Grammys tomorrow night: Gerald Albright, Fourplay, Earl Klugh, and Spyro Gyra. I don’t know if I can stomach watching the awards, but I’ll go to Grammy.com and find out the results after the show.
Oh, yeah. Go Fourplay! Harvey Mason is as tasty a drummer as ever picked up a pair of sticks.
He is good. I interviewed two of the members individually when I was at WCWP: Bob James and Lee Ritenour, who was an original member. Larry Carlton took his place.
My last name is “Toper” and it means one who drinks a lot in english. Where does [Toper] come from?

I also like Kellie Pickler, Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, Toby Keith, Trace Adkins , and Brad Paisley!
Carrie Underwood is my #1 favorite!
I know you like Carrie Underwood, but I couldn’t resist this picture of Shania Twain WOWSY
Great video. I didn’t know Grammy came from gramophone. My favorite group is Lynard Skynard. My favorite singer is Steven Tyler from Aerosmith. I mostly like Southern Rock Bands. There is a band from Russia that I like a lot, they are Ария or Aria. Kipelov is their lead singer.

Decent. The drumming doesn’t have the monotonously repetative — almost systhesized — beat you hear in a lot of contemporary Russian music.
I just wish I could understand the words. I like the music, it has a more Van Halen sound to there works.
I think you should hand out The Gorby Awards, Marina. I have no idea who would receive them. All the singers are probably guilty of something in their professional writings and performances.
Also, could you let us know where you will be on Valentine’s Day? A certain lovely young lady needs the roses on her bed table to return. M-a-a-aybe someone she knows could take care of that for her?
Just a thought.
Homework: DIANA KRALL(aka Mrs. Elvis Costello, interestingly).
Sensual, smoky voice; incredible pianist. Amazing!
I think she kinda resembles Ali Larter from Heroes.
Yeah, good eye! I hadn’t made that connection.
There was a “Wheel Of Fortune” show back in the 90’s where the winner went to guess the word for the grand prize. The word was………”Ukulele”. If I remember, the winner chose the usual “R, S, T, L & E”. Well the word “_ _ _ lele” was shown. It may have been even just the two “E” vowels. Long time ago! Anyway, the woman guessed it correctly!!!!
this is probably my favourite song at the moment. I think missys songs are really awful but there is something about them that makes them brilliant. I also LOVE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiCMFd2XXT0 Infact I have always loved it… Its my Favourite song….
Excellent video lesson and love the Ukulele lesson and performance. Looking forward to seeing you on the show tomorrow.
Don’t have any favorites as I listen to a huge variety of music.
Let’s see if there are any new discoveries I can make tomorrow.

Reverse origin request — what modern words have their roots in the ancient word of …?:
Reverse origin request for the ancient Greek words of [aidos - meaning modesty or bashfulness (in the good sense of keeping a treasured value for a select few only -- away from indiscriminate or promiscuous display to everybody); also meaning reverence, experience of awe; it is the _opposite_ of aiskhyne meaning hiding out of shame or disgrace]. Also, reverse origin of the related word [aidoia meaning genitals (both male and female)]. At the time the Greeks used the words aidos and aidoia, they considered the genitals a value (unlike Christians who consider it a shameful organ of sin).
–Hs4Mm
.
Wait, since when is reproduction a sin?
Christianity (that includes me) considers sex a sin?
I have no reason to be ashamed of my genitalia. And that doesn’t mean that I use my “shameful” to commit a sin.
I researched it just in case, and found there’s no shame or sin in the body, created by God himself, according to Christians and the Bible.
So if that statement didn’t have any foundation in documents, it must have been a personal addition. And if that’s your view, then that would make you a serial sinner, or maybe a virgin. What do you think the Christians would consider worse?
(I ask only because you like so much speaking on their behalf)
Please note that I addressed this issue elegantly, and even kept my humor up. Unlike you, when you decided it was OK to belittle my intelligence, as well as my teacher’s. (and these are people with Doctorates we’re talking about)
I didn’t bring this up again to fight with you, but merely because I felt it needed to be addressed, in order to bury the hatchet between us (because yes, people make mistakes, now you know first hand), and eliminate the funky feeling that is so unnecessary to any of us, while interacting on this site. I hope that idea appeals to you, as much as it does to me.
Chem
Well done, Chem. I, too, have never been ashamed of my faith, my sexuality, or my privates.
Chemikal, my friend, I am going to argue one point with you. I, too, am Christian, so I feel an especiallly strong need to point out my alternative view. Please remeber that I would not argue this point with you unless I felt that you would take it as I mean it – an alternative view.
I completely understand your defense of Christianity. I actually agree with you on that point. My exception, though, is with your defense of Christians. I do know of many Christians who find shame (even disgust) with the human body. I do not agree with their argument, but I seldom take the time to disagree with most of them – for what benefit would that achieve? Many Christians have some beliefs that are very different from mine; to the point that, for a long time, I tried to call myself something other than Christian, for fear of being associated with these others’ beliefs. I changed my mind upon Jesus’ example: He had quite a few exceptions with the way Judaism was being practiced, but He still used the term Jew to apply to Himself.
When I model my behavior, I try to keep one thing in mind: I do not model my behavior after Christians; I try to model my behavior after Jesus. I am grateful of the name “Christian,” because of Christ, not because of (perhaps with exception to) others who also call themselves Christians.
Peace to you, my friend.
Hi Bob,
When you said “I do know of many Christians who find shame (even disgust) with the human body.”, that got me thinking… the only passage from the Bible, that I know of to suggest a hateful attitude towards one’s self would be:
Matt 5:28-29 (NIV) [Jesus:] “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.”
So if you said that those people hated their entire body, than think of what must be in their mind!
But when it comes down to it, every man chooses his Faith, and he can either follow one of the canonical religions, or he can interpret for himself the good things Jesus did on Earth a long time ago, and try to adapt His teachings to contemporary reality. I think that Faith does not consist in choosing a “right” religion, but rather it mirrors each man’s belief and will to pursue a Holy life.
Those are just my thoughts.
With peace in mind, and peace at heart, your friend,
Chemikal
I like them lesbian folk singers, we have some common interest.
Me and you both. I am a lesbian too hehehe
I am a lesbian trapped in a man’s body
Kinky!
Quick, before it’s too late, cut it open and get her out!

Homework: Dolores O´Riordan
But after seeing your video “Karaoke”,You´re my favorite singer.
Bye!
.
Not my favorite, but the best singer ever is Patsy Cline — she sings very sad songs. Her songs are so sad that I cannot enjoy them in any way other than for her artistry in singing them. (This is like saying Dostoevsky is an excellent story teller, but one would not want to live in the word he depicts; one can enjoy his artistry but not want to live in his world. I have read his Crime and Punishment.)
Best song and dance combination ever: Shakira in Hips Don’t Lie and in Whenever, Wherever.
.
Hi hs4mm,
I like Shakira – Ojos Asi
This version requires extra oxygen and heart medication.
Ojos Asi /w dance compilation.
I love that song!! I think I will have to click that link!
.
In Hips Don’t Lie and Whenever, Wherever, Shakira is expressing a woman’s love for her man. It is sad that her English (lyrics) is poor. The choreography — the music, what one can make out of the lyrics, and the movement of her body to the music and to the thoughts being expressed by the lyrics are eloquent.
Those two music-videos by Shakira are cohesive, meaningful objects of high grade art (but the dance compilation by libysin is just a meaningless hodge-podge — it is so boring that I could not see it fully.)
–Hs4Mm
.
A pretty face, a good voice and an excellent testimonial for glucosamine and chondroitin supplements!
Well, I can’t imagine why I didn’t think to mention Shakira as well.
I love her music which mixes exotic rhythms and instruments, giving it a unique sound.
Yes sir she can definitely shake her Shakira.
You raise a very interesting point here Capman. Aesthetically speaking, some shakiras shake so fine and are so well tuned that they pretty much don’t need any lyrics at all. Ça baigne dans l’huile so to speak. You throttle it a bit and that’s it, you’re on your way.
How would you like to be that tree.
What you don’t realise is … I was that tree … and I was lying down at the time. After all, the man kept singing, “Couchez”.
Lucky joker I found you out
Bob the treeman
I think that’s what the medical people call, “a condition.”
.
Just realized that there are multiple versions of Hips Don’t Lie and Whenever, Wherever. So here are the versions I am refering to: Hips Don’t Lie and Whenever, Wherever.
Also, I would like to qualify my remark made in 30.1.2 about “high grade art”: Both these videos show what is possible in a song-and-dance video — they do not fully achieve it. It is only parts of the videos that are good and demonstrate the potential. Hips Don’t Lie has a few good parts; Whenever, Wherever has more good parts.
(The primitive drum beat in Ojos Asi gives me a headache.)
–Hs4Mm
.
Those 2 songs are on the list of my YouTube favorites.
I don’t know if I have a favorite, since I listen to a variety of music. I mostly listen to rock, pop, (or Poprocks!
) some top 40, and a little country. I like some music and don’t care for others.
I’d like to request the word [fringe]
xoxo
Homework: Who is my favorite singer? Like favorite foods it usually depends on the mood! I adore Cecilia Bartoli and Natalie Merchant but most of the time my heart belongs to torch singers like Amy Winehouse, Billy Holiday, and Dusty Springfield. My all time fave is Peggy Lee (“Is that all there is my friend?)” Q
“Cecilia Bartoli” <3<3<3 I heard her sing a motzart piece once & it sent me down a road of discoveries that I wasn’t ready for. I’d give up my spleen, or something maybe a bit more vital to see her in a live performance. Just enjoyed about 3/4 of an hour of her singing thanks to you
Favorite singer would be Marina singing Womanizer to Gorby.
Man the internet has been running extremely slow these past few days.
HW: Olivia Newton John
Wow is that some dress Marina is wearing.
Oh, sorry, my mouth was hanging open and my eyeball are bugging out of my head.
Glad I’m not dating her, walk around all day looking all weird with stuff hanging open and pointing all over the place.
Congrats on the network debut.
Marina,Take pictures of the food at the ‘after parties’.
Bring some in her purse to share with the class
I must admit I like these peseteros.
I’m not much of a music listener any more. When my wife is at home there is always Thai pop music on, some of it quite pleasant but some is dire, so when I’m on my own I prefer silence if there is no birdsong.
However, of those singers I’ve seen or heard of Christina Aguilera has the most incredible voice and very versatile performances.
Of the men, I like Russell Watson or any of the other famous tenors.
Christina Aguilera never looks the same twice.
After watching the Candy Man video… I wouldn’t mind being “Her favorite Candyman!”
I was kinda thinkin’ you’d remain or become an [iconoclast]… and run away from events as cliche as these.
Favorite singers are … Crosby, Stills and Nash & Remy Shand
Except for the above word in [brackets]… never mind the rest of the sentence… enjoy the show.

Well, obviously, the thing to be learned here is don’t stop at red lights.
Homework:
Impossible to pick one-My favorite singer in terms of her instrument would have to be the inimitable LINDA EDER.
Ya’ll check her out. She’s amazing! And see her live-you won’t believe it.
Homework: tough choosing just one…

let me think about it.
Marina is getting a Grammy
Wow! Didn’t see that coming.
Was it for Grandfather’s Clock?
(the link to it is down, by the way)
Did Marina really win a Grammy? For real?
{CK turns black 8-ball over and waits for the answer to float into view in the window.}
UNLIKELY
Good response to my apparently too vague attempt at sarcastic humor.
It is not at all unexpected that a hot blonde of the female persuasion would get an invitation to attend such an event as a guest. I wonder who invited her. Could it be that she has snagged a job as a correspondant? Maybe after it’s all over, she will let us know how it happened.
These days I would not be surprised to see quite a few hot blondes of the male persuasion in attendance.
How on earth does one persuade someone to be male or female?
Aren’t people actually talking about males or females of the blonde persuasion?
CK said it first, blame him. I was just the second sheep, following blindly over the cliff.
Hey! I’m not pointing any fingers – just pondering.
Anyway,
Q. How do you change a blonde’s mind?
A. Blow in her ear.
Hello Cha Cha, what’s the haps

Hi, I have not spoken to you for ages..
Now, about this most popular thing
Marina, your GTW game i on page 3 at the moment.
Most popular are videos usually by partners that youtube chooses that have lots and lots of honours. Now, also most popular shows what is going on in the news or on tv. Right now its WWF and some home and away clips (home and away is always on there) but bet your boots, when it comes to the grammies that all the clips will be most popular. Same with anything like current news. Most popular seems to be YT’s way of promoting the press that makes them money and throwing in a few extra videos to put you off the trail. I think most popular is a way to make youtube money. If it’s a “secret” algorithm then that means that they are not telling is something. Something dirty is probably going on.
Greed rules.
At YT.
Congratulations on winning your Grammy! (How sentimental it is for me to have known you before you appeared om national television!)

I hope you have a great time at the awards show. I’ll look for you on the red carpet interviews and during the show. The music will be great.
I hope I have a date as beautiful as you are if I ever get an invitation to the Oscars.
My favorite singer was Pat Benatar.
So funny..Marina sounds like a Chipmunk (Grease)
..on CBS*
*I’m in the audience

My favorite singer is Jon Anderson of Yes. (Don’t hit!) Marina won the Grammy because Jethro Tull did not put out an album last year
LOL on the Monty Python foot!
Where are your seats? Will you be in the front row with some heavy metal guitarist?
Hi Marina!
I’ll look for you on the tube! Have fun!

Hi, favorite singer let me think about it.
Marina, that photo at the end, of you in a long black gown, is the hottest I’ve ever seen. Sensational!
[Chorus], yea, that’s it
WOW!
Hello Bob,
That picture looked like it was taken at the Grammy show, right?
Marina is going to the Grammy show, right?
So, what the heck?
Are pictures taken before the show(days before) and then at the show?
I never pay attention to these types of shows or those “reality shows”.
Except now that I know Marina will be there I will be recording it on my cable box.
Maybe she went last year too.
Not her current hairstyle, notice.
I was hoping to see her in that dress.
I know most people watch her show hoping that she’ll bring out the “Flesh Crayon” but I prefer her elegant look.
Me too. Maybe we’ll get it on our Birthday or Valentine cards.
Hint. Hint.

Hello Bob,
I can’t wait for the show-
