O’Reilly Factor Show – My Beef!
Here is my 6th appearance on the O’Reilly Factor Show.
This one was a departure from the norm for me. I discuss something that I had a “beef” with.
The origin of “beef”, to mean something you have a problem with, actually comes from the practice of “beefing” cattle, or slaughtering them to sell their meat as beef. That part got cut of the the interview.

I felt like I needed to leave this comment as sort of a milestone.
This O’Reilly appearance is the one that prompted me to look up the HotforWords website and actually find out what Marina was all about – after seeing her 5 previous times on the show.
Since April 9, when the show originally aired, I have had the pleasure to view every one of her 486 vids, plus every one of the vids from others on this site, plus every news article posted, plus every interview. And I’ve had the chance to read a large number of posts from people all over the world that make the HotforWords phenomenon a truly global community.
PedanticKarl has been very gracious in taking me under his wing in this study, and pointing me to places and details I know I would have passed by or never seen without his help. He is a huge resource to and for Marina in many ways that most don’t know about I’m sure.
Seeing this appearance again today after taking the full trip [around the horn], I realized why this particular O’Reilly appearance got me to take notice and look her up, finally.
It was one of those personal things you realize at certain points in your life that make a journey worthwhile – and it’s nothing to bore you with.
I will say this though – after seeing EVERYTHING there is available to see – I’m actually MORE amazed and excited than I was when I began – and that’s saying something!
Excellent appearance, Marina. I thought you came across as a very intelligent young lady with a great attitude. I think O’Reilly agrees.

I saw your sixth appearance with Bill when it actually aired and then once again on-line. I missed seeing you with Bill, so I had to see your sixth appearance again. I can’t wait to see your seventh appearance. You are always so entertaining. You and Bill make a great tv team. Also, you make a great teacher. Keep up the great education.
I find it ironic that you are on O’reilly factor complaining about rude people when O’reilly epitomizes rude behavior.

Great word origins. I enjoyed this presentation. Your fans and well-wishers would shield you from all of the stupidity and nastiness in the world if we could. But, as you noted, you have developed a “thick skin” and have determined to look at (and respond to) only the positive in people. These sound like great life lessons to have acquired through all of this unfairness and pain.
Good one. Your observations and conclusions are accurate. As to why people act how they do on the net. Not being face to face is a true reason i think.
Maybe Etiquette would be a good word for you to do.
I enjoy your appearances on the O’Reilly Factor. In regard to people being rude in their comments; just ignore them. A person like that has a small brain. So small that it could be placed in the rear end of a bumble bee. You could then shake the bumble bee and their brain would rattle around like a pellet in a box car!

I love your appearances on O’Reilly. What you do is educational and your appearances are a nice, fun relief to all the stressful political and world issues we’re exposed to. Too bad about all the rude (now I know the origin of the word) comments but you seem to handle them well. Keep up the good work.
All these O’Reilly appearances are dull as a doorknob compared to Marina’s usual lessons. Like this one… I prefer when Marina is defining, not whining. When she does her own thing, she comes off from a position of strength. When she does O’Reilly’s show, she comes off from a position of weakness. And spending time complaining about one’s ‘beef’ makes them look even weaker. Intelligence is indeed sexy, but weakness is a turnoff.

Now it pleases me to see that you’ve become not merely successful, but done so without compromising your intellect, or your sense of humor. You remind me somewhat of my Russian tutor. When I began learning, she asked me why I wanted to learn Russian. I was a bit flip in my reply, and said that I wanted to read Pushkin in the original. Hello Kirby, that’s a great story and loved the part about “…understand none of the words, but your heart understands the music.” How interesting, the connection between words and the heart. Yes, I too have followed HotForWords since her first video and she is a wonderful soul for words.
By the way, I noticed that you chose a non-existent website “none” for your username. When people click on that, depending on their browser, that website name without a top level domain like .com will actually default to that. So, that website comes up as none.com I presume you did not intend for us to go there.
I normally add a non existent top level domain such as “.xyz” which will result in web site not found. Of course, you could always put HotForWords.com as your link or leave it blank.

You must know you are doing very well. The cowards who attack you on the InterNet only want any kind of attention so any response seems like a reward. Are these the same people who do not know the difference between words like [there, their, they're], [your, yore, you're], [to, two, too] and that “who” refers to a person but “that” refers to a thing. For example, “the salesman that sold me a car,” is a wrong usage. “The salesman who sold me that car,” is more appropriate.

that is so outragious for people to make fun of you and call you names i didn’t know you were 28 i often wondered i once said the oldest possible is 31 but were pretty sure you were not i am 29 30 in I post on other messageboards and sometimes use my real name. Obnoxious posters are a fact of life. You can be upset by them, but unless you have a plan to deal with them you’re spinning your emotional wheels and getting nowhere – and the best plan is to simply ignore them.
btw, I’m not ignoring the fact that the annoyance quotient kicks up immeasurably when you’re a public personality who interacts with the hoi polloi. You’re basically one big wacko magnet.
That, as usual, was a very good interview. I’ve seen some of the rude comments, figuring the commentary to show the ugliness and nastiness of the person. I wondered how you dealt with it.

I could see from the last minutes of the interview that you are deeply troubled by this trend of abuse. I have also noticed that you are not as upbeat as you are usually are. You seem depressed.
These people who are verbally abusive on the internet live dreary little lives of under achievement. They resent people who have taken steps to capitalize on their abilities and make something out of themselves. They believe that you do not deserve the success and attention that you have earned. So they try to inject a little of their sorrow into your world through abuse, in hopes of bringing you down a little.
Apparently it is working, and this makes them happy. Don’t give that to them.
You have worked hard (by earning your degrees, and then finding a way to apply them in a positive way) for what you have achieved, and your real fans know this. We admire you for your achievements and value your lessons.
I think that one of the things that make you unique is the fact that even though you are very beautiful, you don’t seem to let that go to your head. You project the image of a normal girl (who just happens to be very beautiful and smart) that anyone could joke around with and have a good time. You don’t seem stuck on yourself, and you keep it real. This personality makes you unique among celebrities, and you shouldn’t let a few bad apples ruin it for you. Keep your head up kid!!

Where I come from, when people are rude we just say: “Your words are unimportant and I do not hear them.” So please — keep on doing what you do in your own unique way. All the nice people love and admire you!
Many times in my pathetic lifetime people have told me that I’m rude. It’s baffled me. I suppose being stupid goes a long with being rude and uneducated2. For years it didn’t bother me because I wasn’t comprehending that anyone was actually insulting me when they told me I was rude. Sometimes these people would yell it right in my face- “YOU’RE RUDE!” and I just stood there stupified and wanting my mommy. Once I even urinated in my pants because I thought the person was so angered by my rudeness that she was going to slaughter me. Then I got educated. How? you may ask. Well, I started watching HotForWords videos on YouTube and things began to click. I have another confession to make first however. When I started to watch HotForWords videos on her YT channel I was, well, I was somewhat rude to her.
Yes, it’s true. I feel ashamed for having to make this admission here now but in my defense I was just plain stupid and stupid is as stupid does, I didn’t really understand my behaviour, the comments I left on her vlogs, pure obnoxious “who luvs ya baby?” talk. I have to just come out with it now so I can resolve this and APOLOGIZE to Marina- “I APOLOGIZE!” because I played the fool, I know I was immature and an embarassingly pathetic creature online, drooling with ooh’s and ah’s, so humiliating for me to see it all in clear perspective after shedding my lame-o shell and getting humble. It wasn’t easy! I have Marina to thank though because through her lessons I started to understand that when you use words to try and convey your feelings to another it is important that you understand what is behind those words, their meanings and how it is percieved by others, and how words are almost written in stone once you go and use them in public and private, in forums and areas of business, etc. I still have a lot of work to do before I can use words properly and I still have a lot of apologizing to do to Marina and lots of other folks too. I hope I didn’t hurt anyone along the way, I truly apologize for my ignorance and will do my best to make corrections.

The story of The Emporer’s New Clothes, comes to mind after reading your comment. Though it has many interpretations, the lesson is basically the same.
A person is castigated for stating that the Emporer is naked; an obvious truth, in reality. The sheeple in the story are so obsessed with conforming with their peers, that their judgement is obscured and skewed. The person with the ability to cast aside this ignorance, are told they are being rude – for seeing things with clarity.
And it is still a lesson being learned today.
Many of the folks who were all impressed with Obama, and giving me shit about my opinions, saying I was rude and ignorant – are all strangely quiet, now. Some still cling to their belief that nothing would be different if Mc Cain had won, but I disagree. Although Congress continues to be controlled by [slacker] Democrats, Mc Cain would have been able to at least veto the irrational spending bills; instead of being nothing more than the impotent voice of reason he now portrays as a Senator.
The choice of Mc Cain was simply that of the lesser of two evils; with one exception. Obama doesn’t have anyone to back him up in making good policy – his VP hasn’t got the experience, either. Sarah Palin has experience running a city and a state, as a mayor and a governor, with far more time in grade at those posts than Obama has had as a Senator. She would have been able to advise Mc Cain toward the best doctrine when his Helsinki’s syndrome left him wringing his hands in indecision.
Never apologize for being right. Better to be considered rude in peoples minds, than to be really stupid.

Marina, I know how you feel about the words people use to insult you. I myself try to blow it off, but after a little while it starts to bother me. Forsooth, garlic smells like garlic. You may either like or dislike the smell of it, though. I would assume that someone who doesn’t like the smell of it won’t eat it. But this is a pure inductive inference. Sometimes, people can be very strange, you know? I wouldn’t be too surprised to encounter, one day, some weirdoes that eat garlic even if they don’t like the smell of it, for the pure gustative experience of it.

I used to breed hand raised cockatiels, parakeets and love birds. With 18 stock birds, it was quite a [menagerie].
They could do tricks, talk and sing. After I trained sets of each breed, they would teach each other. I was fortunate as an avian afficianado in that I only lost two birds, an amazing record. I taught ‘em to say stuff like “Here kitty kitty”, “pretty bird”, “bark bark bark” (like a dog) and “Birds can’t talk”. I would tell ‘em to “tame the lion”, and they would put their heads inside my mouth.
I taught them songs like “Whistle while you work”, “Dixie” and the theme from At the Movies (with Siskel and Ebert).

I like your idea of the ‘tame the lion’ game. When I worked at the pet store I would tell people the birds earn their keep here by offering a teeth cleaning service in lieu of staying at the shop until they were adopted.
I once seen a large Macaw pick a Master lock brand lock.
She was able to pick at the tumblers and break out of her cage. The other employees didn’t believe me so I showed them and they all gasped when the bird did it again. (I wish I had video of that!) We had to buy a new master lock that she could not get her beak into it. So yea bird can do some amazing things.

Pranks are fun. If I just want a pack of chewing gum and I find myself waiting in line because a cashier is poking around it gets to be annoying so when I get to the register I hand the cashier monopoly board money and wait and see how they react.
That’s very gutsy telling everyone how old you are. A lot of the things that are written as comments like that are meant to hurt you and not to make sense. I’ve noticed that too. I think you make a very good point and are totally justified in being annoyed by the rudeness. When you’re trying to do your best work it isn’t easy to deal with that level of ignorance. However, I think the point is somewhat lost by being on the factor. I can’t think of any television personality that makes a living off of that kind of ignorance as Bill O’Reilly. What’s his little scam? Oh yeah, he says, “just let me finish what I have to say and I’ll let you talk”, and then goes on to interrupt and shout over that person once they start trying to talk after waiting for him to finish. I think they even teach them to do that on Faux News because when someone fills in for him, they do the same thing. Also, I would caution against the idea of editing out criticism. Making your site a totally “bummer free zone” can also make you out of touch with reality much like Bill himself is. Bill has it coming. If you live by the sword you die by the sword, and frequent ridicule, false and misleading information, and insults are his tools of choice. It’s only fitting that they be used against him in return. However, in your case, Marina, it is totally unjustified for people to direct that behavior at you.
When I first saw your videos I noticed how many ignorant things people put in their comments. I thought you didn’t care, but then I also realized that youtube is more of an open community and anyone can comment on your videos. So, even if it does upset someone they don’t have many options for dealing with it because there are so many people doing that on youtube. Truthfully, I admire how you deal with it. Without the two videos I can think of addressing it, I wouldn’t even know it bothered you. I think that’s a good thing. I think we could all do better to follow your example and be better at pressing on and just generally doing our own thing in the face of those that would ridicule and pointlessly debase us for no reason. I think you have it right. When a person resorts to name calling or insults it turns off the people you want to have as an audience and only encourages those who like to act out in that way. Ignorant people don’t know any other way to go about things and their lives are full of insults and discouraging words. So, having you speak to them even if it is only to insult them is better than what they would ordinarily have, insults and discouraging words without a hot girl. I don’t do things like that very often, but I can remember a time when I was in high school and I was required to write a journal. I didn’t want to put things about my personal life in it because I was already doing all I could to solve the situation, and I didn’t see the point in constantly talking about it. Also, I had lost the journal I had been writing in at a pep rally. So, it was a really frustrating time for me. I didn’t like writing. It was for an english class. I didn’t like english classes, and I had to start on an new journal and make up for months of work that I had done in it. The teacher took a long time to grade the journals normally, but still expected the journals to be turned in on time. Other students had mentioned this to her, and her response was that she had a lot of classes and she gave them all a lot of journals. So, she couldn’t finish them that quickly. Of course, as a student, my opinion was that she shouldn’t have given so much homework in that case. Anyway, I was really steamed about the situations I had to deal with at school and home and had to make up for months worth of work I didn’t want to do and didn’t think was really going to be read anyway. Until that point I had always gotten along with that teacher, but when I wrote in the journal I wasn’t anywhere near as polite as I should have been. So, when she finally did read it, she made sure to let me know what she thought about it, and say that she was sorry sarcastically for being one of “the dumbest people on earth”. I didn’t remember writing that, and I wasn’t just angry about her. She was actually a small part of it, and because I was so frustrated about what was going on with the rest of my life it was reflected in what I wrote.
So, in my opinion, Marina, it may be a cliche, but it isn’t always about you. Sometimes it’s them. I think in almost all these cases you deal with, that’s the case. You’re a beautiful woman and some people, especially men have bad experiences with them. Mostly the bad experience comes from not being with one, and they might lash out for that reason in a crude way. If your girlfriend is acting like a total rag and you tell her, she only acts worse. If they write something crude to you, there aren’t many consequences. Maybe, they got their heart broken by a hot girl. Like you said, if it isn’t face to face it is safer for them to do that. Maybe, they want to impress their ignorant friends. Some women, I’m sure, are jealous of what you look like because they don’t think they are pretty enough or they think they have a big butt. Some people just don’t like to see other people happy. It is very difficult to separate the pointless criticism from ways you could actually improve. Personally, I think you’re doing a great job. I also think your videos are some of the best, funniest, hottest, and entertaining on youtube. Don’t change a thing. I think you’ve got exactly the right idea about these people, and while it may be frustrating, ignoring them is better than wasting your time focusing on them and giving them the attention they crave. Don’t play their game. It’s better to focus on things that are important not people who aren’t. It’s better to let them continue to torture themselves.
The more I see your vids Marina, the more I want to encourage you. People who post cruel comments on your website and Youtube are truly showing their inability to think for themselves, and allow others to enjoy. I have never seen a cruel comment that has ever contributed constructively to a conversation. It is unfortunate that by putting a comment section on your website, you invite the people with a lack of maturity or cruel streak to post hateful things. I have also read some very funny comments though, and for those I am grateful.
I think there is a common thing in recent humor seen in stand up comedy and television comedies to try to get a laugh with a cruel, mean-spirited line. But there is a time and a place for such humor, and it really doesnt work very well on a website.
For me, and for thousands of others, negative posted comments only reflect on the people who post them, and not you. You are a smart woman to come up with this Hot For Words concept, and you deserve all the good fame and fortune that comes with it. Ignore the idiots who don’t get it.

By the way, I would have guessed that “beefing up cattle” means to “increasing the quantity of meat in the cattle” (rather than “slaughtering cattle”) — as per the expression “to beef something up” (meaning “to shore up”, “to brace”, “to prop”).
Or is the connection that beef is what cattle is slaughtered for; so when one has a beef with someone, one “slaughters” him for that “beef”?

So many people here seem to lack a sense of humor and have a huge chip on their shoulder. Lighten up, people! This place is about words! Laugh a little!
Watch a few commentary shows, and you’ll see that this is a pattern. It’s not always because the host is rude, though. These people are professionals…TV professionals. They are intimately familiar with the time constraints of their segments and sometimes need to cut guests off so that conversations do not drag on.
Now, in fairness to your comment here, this was a recorded segment, so interrupting was probably not as important since the entire interview would be…and was…later edited to meet the time requirements.

Hell, even I’ve been starting to notice it. It’s easy let loose and act like an ass at times, out of fun, that is has become more like a trend. But I don’t think it’s just an internet thing, I see people act like this in public as well. Sometimes we can become bitterly irritable when things don’t go our way.
But I don’t know what level of rudeness you’re talking about. Whether it’s just the unnecessary insults or something more than that. Some people have to be the way they are in order to survive, because other people happen to be intolerable.
I’m having some interesting thoughts about Bill’s show. Ok he get a lot of hate mail and yet his show gets high ratings. I see society is contradicting. They hate shows like this and yet so many of them watch shows like this. I wonder why this is?

For example, a leading political party in my country’s government won the elections by quite a high margin. Yet, you NEVER see anyone saying good things about them. Everyone just complains and laughs at them. In internet pools they are way behind in competition.
Maybe some people don’t say the truth? Maybe the haters group is just more vocal? Or maybe people just feel that it is “cool” to bash everything that is on top…

I know for a fact that in many elections there is much corruption in how voter ballets are handled. Even in my state there was much evidence of this. We are undergoing an election reform to eliminate false voter ballets.

I don’t get any hate emails, but I do read many on Marina’s YouTube page. They spread like a virus. There is really nothing one can do on YT for they don’t make any useful tools to make management of negative comment easier. You notice there is very little hate comments on this site? That’s because there is a very effective system in place to manage comments.

I’ve seen a few troll posts and they were not removed but simply ignored, so I always assumed that it’s mostly the registration that keeps the trolls away. I think some people are really attracted to things like this. I think I even find myself doing the same. I would venture to guess more men watch his show than women. Before I ever watched O’Reilly, I heard that he was basically the incarnation of Satan. Since catching his show the first time, however, I have found him to be very even-handed and entertaining. I love that he’ll bring a variety of personalities on his show and give them fair treatment, whether he agrees or disagrees with their points of view.

That is lame that people are jerks online… Um, yeah just ignore them and know that more people love you than hate you… although how anyone could hate you I will never understand…. And while yes people are more rude online being online also helps create confidence. I guess they say you’re old because they are kids themselves and they expect a girl (like, >18?) and not a woman. They probably don’t know that people always look differently on pictures and videos than they do in person. There’s also a makeup, different haircuts, outfits, etc. All this can make you look younger or older. I’m 25 and to me you are the hottest woman on the planet.
