CrazyboyLA at Youtube posted a 5 minute vid of the event:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rG8v5T_OOU

I’m in it too! You can see my back in a Black Shirt at 1:27 if you don’t blink.

I think it’s about time the word [ululate] got some attention! Onomatopoeically outstanding!

  3. I’d like to request the word [kudos].

  4. lausiej says: 60

i would like to request the word [sophomore]

  5. I see my favorite widget is back.
And also George is a happy camper. :-)

Just got back from a short trip to LA.

I was strolling down Sunset about a block from the Viper Room and had the surprise of my life!

Big commotion in front of a BookStore – I got most of it on video.

I’ll post my POV on my YT Channel after I clear the camera and do some editing.

    How Fun!

Book signing was a BLAST! I have fun stories to tell as well!!!

Thank you all for coming out. I’ll make a post about it tomorrow.

I am puzzled by the things people do or don’t do. I would have expected people to comment on the ad for your game when it first showed up sporadically (it now shows up with much more frequency) — but no one did. There is a 5 min or so long video of this event that includes you talking to the visitors; I would have expected someone to link to that video here, but no one has, not even the author of the video!

I did comment on the ad when I first saw it a long time ago; I did not mention the video of the event since I wanted to see if anyone else would. Not even the author mentioned it here! So strange!

  8. Sorry I wasn’t able to make it to your book signing Marina.
I heard you had a Fire sale going on.
Looking forward to the video of this book signing.

    Hi Marina,
Congrats on your book signing! Sounds like you had a wonderful time! I have a origin request for [enfeoff].

    Semper Fi.

  10. AAArrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggg I’m stuck in Montana and can’t make it to the book signing.

  11. I’d love to help you pick up the books you dropped ;-) and have them signed but I had a doctor’s appointment and didn’t have the time to get to LA after it.

But I did want to ask for a word request since I had run into someone that had commented on your interview for Current TV and somehow couldn’t believe the kind of success you have been able to achieved from your videos on YouTube.

I tried explaining it to him several times but he was such a [Doubting Thomas] that he couldn’t accept it since he maintained “She is a dime a dozen I could find one just like her in 60 minutes on the street!”

I told him “I would put money on the improbability of finding someone on the street with 2 advanced degrees in philology and the ability to write, act in, edit and promote the kind of lessons that Marina does.”

He was so stubbornly insistent about not admitting to any of your accomplisments that I told him that [denial] was much more than just a river in Egypt and I suggested he get treatment for Irrational Disbelief Syndrome since he was blindly dismissing any facts I produced about it.

Maybe if you did a video dealing with [Doubting Thomas] that are in a state of [denial] it would help bring them out of the darkness of willful ignorance and into the light of reason.

Maybe Sunbathing on Mars was for those of us who couldn’t make the signing and had to stay home. Thank you.

  13. You’re amazing teacher! Some sunbathing on Mars and you still have time for a book signing in L.A.

One of Marina’s “favorited” videos: “Tonight’s going to be a good night!” http://bit.ly/Y3YFp says it all about being at the bookstore tonight! The spirit of happy love in the most highly and well-produced music videos I’ve ever seen (and I was a founding member of the LA Video Music Alliance in 1979. This video is wonderful!)

Hey Mo, I sent you a Youtube message about your great new lipstick and how-since August and the racetrack- you’ve inspired me to develop a “franchise” for my pitch meetings in January (especially for the second-out book, “Son of a Planet”(I got .com last week).

To think that you, a former young pioneer, are on Sunset Strip tonight and in Beijing today they were wearing miniskirts in formation…what a planet! Go Girl!

also recently learned the origin of the word [slave]. Those people of color with whom i’ve shared the origin were quite surprised to learn that the original ’slaves’ were from europe, and how much longer a period of time these people suffered from European ’slave raids’ than did the africans. perhaps you might want to look into this one.

  21. daddydoc says: 42

That poem was good. I don’t think he was talking about you though, just saying that the woman in the poem was as hot as you are.

hey, if you like poetry, why don’t you set up a section on your website specifically for people to post their stuff?

but also I have word and phrase requests.

    1. I would like to request the phrase [baited breath]
    2. I would like to request the word(s?) [lollygag]

YOu definately did create a market for your book with your silly suggestive videos. Someone once told me in a letter about writing short magazine articles on the end times to try to create a market for my little books. Maybe my two Mobipocket.com ebooks might be offered for sale through Borders, who knows. I am beyond caring.

    • beevee14 says: 40.1

Do you agree with the Mayans and Nostradamus that the end of time is 2012? :?:

      • tonyb says: 40.1.1

Jesis in the Bible said NO ONE KNOWS THE DAY OR HOUR ONLY HS FATHER IN HEAVEN. But with the beginning of the nuclear age wiht the atom bombing of Hiroshima in 1945 it looks like the e3nd approaches. Even Maxim magazine once had an article of the 15 most violent war hotspots in the world today. And of course, the Jews going back to Israel after WWII is like the “swallows returning to Capistrano” signalling that spring is near. World just gets crazier and crazier until we all destroy ourselves!!!

        • Yeah! Those pesky Israelis! Now they are bitching about Iran having the bomb. I mean, what have they got to worry about? The solid, unequivocal strength of our president will save them!!

BTW, Netanyahu’s speech to the UN was one of the best ever

          “Have you no shame?!”

IDEA  :!: Why don’t we just put Netanyahu and Ahmidinajad in the ring. I know that N was an IDF commando and head of Mossad which means that whatever A was is irrelevant. Bee thinks he would resemble an ink stain before we would have a chance to stop the whippin’! I can dream, can’t I?! ;-)

          • I do not have any Israeli flags hanging my home as some followers of a certain apocalyptic minister were shown to wave Isreali flags at a church rally. I do not secrelly own any Israeli war bonds (I head them advdrtised on WCBS AM 880 once before. Paul in
Romans did say it was his desire that all Israel would be saved. Yet the earliest persecutors of the christian church were the Jews.
When I began my background research into history pertaining to the end of the world, I bougth a copy of Bernard Grun’s TIMETABLES OF HISTORY and looked up wars and various disasters and jotted them down in a yellow notebook in 1989 which either disappeared or I threw out. My conclusiion was the title THE 1900′S; A CENTURY OF CRISIS. WORLD War I, World War II, the Cold War, the nuclear arms race as contrasted to the Pax Romana of the Roman Empire of the Caesar’s where there was peace. Like the birth pains of the Olivet Discourse the wars of our time and orher disasters justs getting worse and worse until Armageddon.

          • iran has no bomb.

  24. I was wondering where the phrase [Gitchy Gitchy Goo] came from. Its like what people say when they’re tickling someone, what have the words [Gitchy Gitchy Goo] got to do with tickling?

  31. If there was ANY way I could justify makng the trip I’d come, Dear Teach. I keep hoping you’ll swing through The Republic some day. I know you’ll be a hit at Book Soup, so have a blast, and continued success, Marina.

  32. poeslayer75 says: 31

Hey Marina, I was just wondering if you could explain the origin of the word [shortcut]. Thanks!

  33. Hs4Mm says: 30

I know your book covers “hot dog” as it refers to the food but [hot dog! not as it refers to the food but as an exclamation of surprise or awe]

When you look for word requests by searching for square brackets, do you get back the entire comment or just the part within the square brackets? I suppose it is more than just the stuff within the square bracket since you would need to know who made the request, but the information about the about the author can be provided without providing the entire comment. So what is it that the search returns?

Not being too terse am I? I don’t get much feedback on what I write, so when I end up being verbose. Personally, I like reading terse writing — in fact, I honed my reading skills while reading math books — those books are extremely terse; a well written math book is so terse that one must spend days on each page to properly understand it!

    • Hs4Mm says: 30.1

More on “hot dog” not as noun but as interjection:

“Hot diddly dog!”, supposedly in the closing song for some Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

“Oh, hot diggity, dog ziggity, boom what you do to me”, a Perry Como song that I do not like.

“Hot diggity dog”, somebody made this up on urban dictionary.

  34. yevster says: 29

Is it worth making a new channel for my new videos?

      • James says: 23.1.1

Mind you you are huge on youtube and hot4words only has about 1000 subs… I thought maybe a new channel will establish a new audience for me, but last time it didn’t go far… Thanks Marina, I will stay put… By the way, come to Quebec… That is about halfway from me :)

      • Hey M. I don’t know if it is just my two computers but the thumbnails you put up like the one at the top where you are dropping the books will not go to a large size when you click on the little green arrow. It will flash back and forth between small and large and revert back to small. I have noticed this with other pictures people have put up that have the same little green arrow to make them larger. Didn’t know if it was a glitch or something.

        • Hey Mike,
I have never had a problem with the shadow box. If you have several FireFox Add-Ons running, those may interfere with the shadow-box and image sizing since it uses JavaScript. For example, if you are running some kind of pop-up blocker, that could also interfere with the sizing of the image. You could disable one Add-On at a time to see which one is the cause, or if you are running a pop-up blocker or Ad blocker, you could try disabling those.

          • Hey Pal, I don’t use an add blocker as I click the adds for Marina. After I left the comment for Marina and came back the computer later on the shadow boxes started to work on both computers for me. I don’t know if M did something or not. I tried it in FF and in Explorer 8 and was having the same effect on both browsers. My laptop is getting older and the video card can’t keep up with the newer videos as I get the spinning wheel and the video freezes. This happens on YT and Marina’s site. Thanks for the help as I think I may check and see if my Java script may need upgrading.

        • By the way Mike, laptop hard drives are typically slower than desktops and if the drive is more than 7% fragmented, it will slow your system down. Yes, I would agree that your system as it get older and log files and the registry grows, your system will get slower. Getting the spinning wheel is one indication of a slow system and might be the reason you don’t see the resizing. I have a very barebones system, which is very fast.

Your JavaScript does not need upgrading as it is integral to your browser. Whenever you upgrade your browser you get the latest JavaScript. Performance of a PC is most critical in order to enjoy all of the new features flawlessly.

          • Hey Karl, I went back through my add ons and got rid of a few I didn’t use any more. Then I went to msconfig and unchecked some of the items that loads on start up that I really don’t need to load every time the computer starts. Last but not least I went into control panel and deleted out any programs that were useless and just taking up hard drive space. I’ll do a defrag tonight after I go to bed. My Windows Live One Care takes care of my Fire wall and virus protection but it’s not the best when it does a tune up at defragging the hard drive, it leaves items still fragged. So I’ll use xp pro’s defrag to tighten up the files. Thanks for the help.

        • Great Mike!
Regarding the tweaks you are doing.
Definitely remove as many programs as you can that load on startup as you said. That will free up memory. Before the defrag, you will want to remove the temp/tmp files and other large sized files that you no longer need. Lots of log files can be removed. If heavily fragmented, you may want to do another defrag.

At first, I thought I was housesitting for a friend that night, but then I discovered it was the following night I’d be housesitting. So I decided to go to Book Soup on Thursday night, and contacted my friends about coming along. But now I’m having trouble with a swollen tonsil and swollen glands, so it is doubtful I’ll be able to make it there unless I get much better in the next few days. : (

Whether I make it or not, I wish you the best, Marina, and am sure you’ll have a great night. Peace and love, Errin : )

          Leadville that’s in Collorado.
If I have to translate it, for Lead I get:

          :???:

Which on should I pick?

          • hi rijk,

the “lead” in leadville refers to the soft, malleable metal lead • wiki. so maybe it would correspond to one of your translations. but it most likely would be one of those names that don’t change with translation.

p.s. i know.. wiki is not the most reliable of sources.. Oo

          • lol! thanks for the pass on wiki, rijk. btw, is your nick like the english name, “rick”, or is it something else entirely?

          • “Lead” has so many meanings it’s plumb ridiculous!

[plumb] — how did it get the meaning “absolutely”?

          • @rijk

cool. that was really an in-depth description of how you got your nick. loved that. mine is taken from the herb, damiana, which is said to be an aphrodisiac. i’ve used it for so long that it feels more like my real name than the one my parents chose for me..

          • @rijk

you have chosen a really good gravatar to go with it.
But mine is not a nick, its, and I quote you the one my parents chose for me

lol! thanks. i like this gravatar, too.. it’s a hint at one of my fave things..

you’re fortunate that your parents chose your name well. my parents didn’t choose well for me, so i renamed myself. ~smirk~

          • I wonder if the dutch lead(lood) is where the English load came from?

            HotForWords must investigate!

Damn! I love the way she says that!

          • Pick van loodglazuur voorzien chief. I think it sounds mighty, ready to influence a pair of poor, weak and unprepared eustachian tubes. I like aanknopingspunt vooorzitten manegen too, but my first choice would definitely be van loodglazuur voozrien. Yes, van loodglazuur vorzien is definitely a winner. OK! I now need to van loodglazuur voorzien my way through my day! Bye bye for now voorzeetten managen de aanwiijzingz!

          • @rijk

lol.. yeah. but unfortunately i still have to go by the name my parents chose in RL unless i go through a legal name change. which isn’t totally outer limits.. why not?

            p.s. you’re a sweetheart..

        • i didn’t know that you have colorado roots, leonard. that’s cool. leadville isn’t that far from where i live.

          • Rijk says: 1.2.1.2.1

Yea thats in there thats Lood. But no village starts with Lood.
Maybe your right and he just says she was form Leadvill Collorado
although I could say its Leiden. That is a city.
Or I could just be losing it.

ps i forgive you on the wiki

          • I love history…my grandmother was born in Leadville and her father had worked the medical trade…

Lead(II) acetate (also known as sugar of lead) was used by the Roman Empire as a sweetener for wine, and some consider this to be the cause of the dementia that affected many of the Roman Emperors
 but the yellow lead chromate is still in use; for example, Holland Colours Holcolan Yellow. Old paint should not be stripped by sanding, as this produces inhalable dust.

Lead salts used in pottery glazes have on occasion caused poisoning, when acidic drinks, such as fruit juices, have leached lead ions out of the glaze.[42] It has been suggested that what was known as “Devon colic” arose from the use of lead-lined presses to extract apple juice in the manufacture of cider. Lead is considered to be particularly harmful for women’s ability to reproduce. For that reason, many universities do not hand out lead-containing samples to women for instructional laboratory
