COP15
Hey guys… in December, Copenhagen, Denmark will be hosting the COP15 or Climate Change Conference. Global warming is a topic of intense debate from all sides. So speak up and express your thoughts about Global warming and have your voice be heard by world leaders who will be attending this conference. You can submit your video at COP15 on YouTube.

Update from Copenhagen…
tensions are flaring
Wow, a natural science debate on your website. I love you, Marina! You may have restored my faith in humanity. The geek shall inherit the earth and inherit it in good condition
We can go back to the horse and buggy. I had had some odd dreams in the early 90’s that my honetown had gone back to the 1800’s-even to the point of people carrying flintlock rifles. And some man’s portrait studio had become an old fashioned tin=type photo studio of the 1800’s. And the Marshall rode on a horse and carried a saddle rifle!
You should come to Copenhagen.
I promise I will turn off the light!
That it is warming may be fact.
But I don’t think it’s man caused or man solvable.
Polution is a different story.

Hey Marina,
is there a maximum amount of comments that can be added to a thread? , cause my super-girl got spammed,… again : (
Hello Rijk,
I don’t think you meant, “… my super-girl got spammed…”
I think you meant to say that a comment posting by my super-girl was flagged as spam?
I don’t think the number of comments per thread would cause a comment to be flagged.
There are a few things that I am aware of that can cause a comment to be flagged as spam. Some of them are:
1. Repeated editing when trying to apply an illegal HTML code.
For example, lets say that I want to add some HTML code and it didn’t turn out right. Then, I edit the comment again and tweak the code to try to get it right. After a certain number of attempts, that will cause a comment to be flagged.
2. Adding too many links can cause a comment to be flagged as spam.
I’m sure there are others, and I don’t know all of the violations that can cause a comment to be spammed. Another factor could be the domain that she is logged in from. Sometimes the spam filter can falsely flag a user as a spammer due to association with other known spammers in that domain. (ref black lists for example)
All of the above have happened to me on this site and also on my own blog.
thanks pk
hope my super-girl can use it, last one worked ok : )
Also Rijk,
I’m not sure about this, but posting several posts in succession might also flag someone as a potential spammer. For example, I know over in the Forum, it is slightly different, but the posts here may have a similar rule.
When I submit a post in the Forum, and then submit another post within a minute or so, then there is a pop-up with a reminder that says something to the effect, “Slow Down….” So, maybe that might apply here also.
hey pk,
has happened to me as well, but as you say you get a message and after a minute you are able to sent another one.
not showing has happened to me as well.
no clue why it happened, not big, no links…
Hey PK,
could you ask Marina, if possible to do the same to my supergirl’s last flagged comment as this one
i am curious what it says ; )
thanks.
I was just going to tell Marina about your flagging issue but I seen she just fixed it. Sorry I took so long to respond. I was not notified of the issue.
thanks CJ,
next time i’ll jump her the moment it happens ~smirk~ ; )
could it be an idea if i post a copy of one the flagged ones.
if this one goes without a hick-up we’ll know its not the length ore the links, only question which one was unflaged by Marina?
In 1988 when I was going through the EPA mandated employee orientation at OH Materials in Findlay, Ohio before a bunch of queers harassed me verbally and I quit; They said there was an environmental problem with underground toxic chemical storage tanks and they leaked toxic waste into the soil and ground water, poisoning people who lived by them. They mentiuoned Silicon Valley as well as the neighborhood gas station. They have underground chemical storage tanks. that is what the EPASuperfund is all about.
Whether you accept that the climate is warming or not, and it certainly is in some areas like the Arctic (thinning and less extensive ice cover, US Navy preparing for operations in an ice-free Arctic), and whether you accept that warming is caused by human activity or not, the fact remains that continuing to pollute our planet and continuing with our [profligate] use of natural resources cannot continue indefinitely and requires concerted and coordinated action by all nations.
This article contains an excellent summary of this point of view.

[pentacle]
Are they synonyms? Do they both come from the Greek for “five”?
Hi Bob,
Here’s a piece of “irony” for you (though Marina says I’m misusing the term):
The US military will not allow the use of the pentacle on the gravestones of Wiccan soldiers — but they put the symbol all over our military equipment!
Oh by the way — the Pentacle song is in 5/4 time!
I mean Pentangle song!
Bros’ and sis’, worry not, says I to you. In verity, 16 trillion space-based plastic freesbee deflectors (made in China), at the affordable unit cost of $7.99 US dollars, each two feet in diameter and sent in orbit between the earth and the sun, are the way to go and will do the job just fine. Thousands of new factories will be built to produce these space-based freesbee, and millions of new jobs will be created at all social levels, from black to white collars and back from white to black collars, and all the logistic of this will be orchestrated by our great and trusty global leaders. All our problems are solved, eh, DO NOT WORRY, I REPEAT, DO NOT WORRY YOU. YES YOU. AND YOU TOO. Be happy, smooth and easy.
P.S.: The mini-rockets to launch the space freesbees is not included in the pricing above. These ones will be made in the USA of course, in a nuclear or atomic facility near you. Science and nuclear trust. It will save ya I tell ya, while creating millions of local high-paying jobs.
And a sky-rocketting economy… Speaking of which, how à propos.
Bloody hell folks, we might even need a few billion more humans on earth to facilitate the production and launching of the 16 trillion industrial space freesbees, so get to it NOW! Let’s double earth’s population one more time to play it on the safe side! END THE REIGN OF LAZINESS!!! Imagine all the collateral impacts on mass-produced stuff where quantity is important, like youtube, amazon.com, Kraft peanuts’n butters, and McDonalds! Jobs! Capital! Economy! To the revisionists who think global warming is a scam and has nothing to do with human made pollution, you’ll also have to find an alibi for the destruction of the ozone layer by chemicals in the atmosphere, the nastiest of them being the CFCs who were invented by Thomas Midgley between 1920 and 1930. This man alone had more impact on the atmosphere than any other living organism in Earth’s history. You’ll have to explain why the US (which contains less than 4.5% of world’s population, quite generously grants itself the right to emit more than 36% of the greenhouse gases). Once you find your alibis, blog them everywhere on the internet, and have the guts to show what you wrote and explain why you did so to your kids and grand kids, friends and family years away from now. See if they can still have an ounce of true respect for the old man or woman you will have become by then and his or her ways of living and thinking.
Funny thing. I think my voice may actually be heard here more than anything I would post at COP15.

Paragraph 3 of 4 reminisces Thoreau. Methinks he would be proud.
Among his famous aphorisms is his advice to “Live at home like a traveler.”
After John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry, many prominent voices in the abolitionist movement distanced themselves from Brown, or damned him with faint praise. Thoreau was disgusted by this, and he composed a speech – A Plea for Captain John Brown – which was uncompromising in its defense of Brown and his actions. Thoreau’s speech proved persuasive: first the abolitionist movement began to accept Brown as a martyr, and by the time of the American Civil War entire armies of the North were literally singing Brown’s praises.
Thoreau” is pronounced like the word “thorough”, whose standard American pronunciation rhymes with “furrow”.

Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you have to love this! Major General Peter Cosgrove’s reply to a lady who interviewed him concerning guns and children. This is one of the best comeback lines of all time.
The real question is not how everyone feels about gun laws. The real question is: Are gun laws right or wrong?
Well, there are guns out there so maybe the real question should be: Are gun laws effective?

Hey Marina, yes, global warming is a topic of intense debate from all sides. I’m looking forward to your upcoming lesson on the origins of the words mentioned in this video.

Documentary on YT: Scientific Debate on Climate Change.
As far as the Copenhagen Treaty or COP15 in Copenhagen, Denmark, I have this feeling that maybe there’s an ulterior motive besides the topic of Climate Change.
UNFCCC (COP15) Overview Schedule
The one for the Fifth Session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP5) [ Please tell me that isn't a meeting about a meeting!]
Looking at the schedule, the only items on the agenda that appear to be set are the two-hour lunch breaks. You’d think that for such an important conference the fullschedule would have been agreed on months ago. Could it be that they’ve got no idea what to do? Surely not.
When you look at this stuff it is no wonder so many people are skeptical about climate change. I mean seriously, climate change is so important that after so many meetings the dopes at the United Nations and in government have achieved not one single identifiable outcome. Not one. Name me one thing it’s done of any use.
The same thing is likely to happen in Copenhagen. Lots of talking (Hope they have a lot of interpreters there), plenty of photo opps, serious faces rested on hands and lots of windmill impressions. Hasn’t anyone learned that the longer that governments remain in control of climate change, nothing will be achieved.
I’m probably ignorant on the science of climate change, which I can honestly say puts me in the majority. Even the greenies who support climate change policies have almost no real knowledge on the subject. When they’re pushed to come up with the facts, the best they can offer is “something’s just got to be done, it’s obvious right?”
No, it’s not obvious actually. Call me cynical if you like, but I’m pretty certain there will be one of two outcomes at the Copenhagen Conference. Either they will resolve to have another meeting on the subject, (for now) I think that’s the most likely scenario given their past record. Or, citizens of the world will be slugged with a massive tax bill that will achieve almost nothing from a climate change perspective except increase the amount of money governments will rip from their taxpayers.
Look, you may think I’m being flip about this. And maybe I am, but the facts speak for themselves. Whenever government is involved in anything, it lengthens the process of getting something done. You only have to look at a local level to see that. For example, how long does it take a local council to approve a building permit? Without council interference and corruption the work could start almost immediately. How often do you hear State governments saying they are going to ‘fasttrack’ something? They only have to do that because it was their impossible red tape that held things up in the first place. And how many Senate enquiries or House of Representative enquiries, does it take to change a lightbulb? Anyway, I hope I’m making a point. If governments really were serious about doing something on climate change all they would need to do is get out of the way. It’s quite simple. But it’ll never happen. Politicians have the need to be in the way. Being in the way of things means they have power and control.
Wiil they listen to the common people, is this a move to a one world government? NWO according to consiracy theorists which I must say you can’t dismiss all of their theories.

Damn! my link for scientific debate on climate change didn’t work right, there were supposed to be a plalist with 4 other parts, but instead it linked to just the first video in the series. Well if anybody actually clicks on it and they find it interesting to view, go to the user’s YT homepage and they’ll be there in order. On the page where my link goes too the other videos are all scrambled around in the related column with a lot of others.

Hey, this live-type update is a very cool format though, I just don’t like the topic.
In 1986 I have read in Chemical and Engineering News of the discovery of the Ozone hole over the South Pole and that it was getting bigger. I have read in this same journal that Arsenic ande Lead poisoning in the Great Lakes was due exhaust from cars. then I read in Environmental Science and Technology of a study where they said that the burning of sulfur coal in america caused acid rain in Canada. But I had read that years ago and I do not have a photographic memory

I hope I spelled that correctly as
I have auto correct off.
I think it is an interesting word,

be interesting.
Hi Karl
I don’t rely on spell check, auto correct, etc..
but Wikipedia goes with the spelling Bureaucracy
Thanks GP,
I was rushed in the car and didn’t have time to look it up and should have waited until I got home. I knew I would mess up. Looks like I spelled it “bow-rac-cracy”. LOL
Hey Karl,
I can see one misspelling bureaucracy. Maybe on the spelling you were relating it to a word like “beauty” which has a similar pronunciation on the first syllable.

Word origin request: [bureaucracy]
It is an interesting word as some of the definitions or roots of the word seem to not satisfy my curiosity. For example the suffix referring to the Greek kratia / kratos meaning [power] or [rule] in of itself would need further investigation into its origins.
As to the opposite of bureaucracy, maybe anarchy comes close, but it still does not seem to satisfy my curiosity. Perhaps it is the difference between a pure literal definition versus practiced reality. I guess even anarchists could be bureaucrats in some sense.

I think its great that world leaders are getting together to talk about global climate change. The weather is completely messed up, its ridiculous !
“Global Warming” was a bad Science Fiction plot cooked up by Paul Ehrlich in the 1970’s. Ehrlich was a crap writer, so the concept was sold as Science rather than SF. Hippies who had smoked so much dope they couldn’t tell the difference between Science and bad SF bought the idea and one of the worst of them, professional liar, Al Gore, made a career out of it. For more information on this subject, consult the old stories, “Chicken Little,” and “The Walrus and the Carpenter.” In “Chicken Little,” the deluded barnyard fowl are all eaten by the fox (Al Gore). The Walrus and the Carpenter are Satan and Jesus; at the end of the poem, the oysters have all been eaten. The way to escape from government lies is to develop healthy skepticism and avoid giving credence to “end of the world” schemes, which have always been used to enslave minds. The only way to effectively deal with the possibility of the end of the world is to live an honorable, meaningful life, since the end of your personal world is a certainty.
I can hike into the Cascades and see the empty valleys where the glaciers have retreated. I would have to be blind or deny the evidence of my senses to say climate change isn’t real.
Of course climate change is real. That’s what climate does, it changes. It has always changed. The fraud is the idea that we must give up our liberty and become the slaves of liars and thieves like Al Gore in order to “save the world.”
Bird migrations are occurring earlier in the spring and later in the fall. In my area, they aren’t going as far south for the winter as they used to.
How do I know? Many types of birds which used to pass through my area on their way south are now spending the whole winter here in my area. I’m making this observation over the course of twenty years.
Here’s another interesting fact: it’s early November and we are seeing jonquil shoots popping up through the soil already, as if it were late February. This is weird.
But don’t take my word for it.
Ask anyone living in the island nation of Tuvalu whether sea levels are rising. Their homeland is practically dissolving into the Pacific while we sit and argue about partisan political stances and how best to “spin” this documented and proven scientific data.
Then prove that our rising global mean annual temperature has nothing to do with either manmade industrial pollution (especially coal) and internal combustion engine emissions or with the heightened CO2 output resulting from these combined factors.
if you can do both of those things and still say global warming is a myth, I’ll reconsider the conclusions I’ve drawn from my personal observations. Either way, the facts speak for themselves. I can’t change the observations on which I have based my views. They remain as true as ever.
“The facts speak for themselves?” Hardly.
http://www.global-dumbing.com/
Hi Rocky! Okay, I’ll put it this way: my observations are only my observations. I’m not seeking any confirmation on what I have observed, nor am I looking to further anyone else’s goal, mission, message, etc. I’m just talking about stuff I have personally noticed. There’s no political agenda to it.
I definitely don’t buy into everything anyone has ever said about the subject. I just look for myself, hence they’re my observations. But since I’m the one making them, I’ll be pretty strongly inclined to believe them until someone wakes me and proves I’m dreaming instead.
Birds don’t know about science. They just do what they do based on their instincts. I’m pretty sure I didn’t hallucinate all the changes I’m seeing in their wintering patterns over 20 years. But I could be wrong. After all, as Einstein once said, “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.”
The writer of the link you posted seems to have a lot of personal baggage invested in mistrusting “University-types.” But he seems to be able to read and write, at least to some extent. Who taught him that? Some university-type, no doubt. Oh well. I’m mildly curious why this person prefers to view the education process as a “dumbing” process instead. Maybe some jealousy there, who knows… but I’m not a psychologist.
I guess some school is good, but too much school is bad. Interesting.
Well, if attending a university is the mark of someone who’s been brainwashed (as opposed to having been taught to think critically and decide something for themselves based on their personal observations, as I’ve tried to demonstrate here) then I guess I’ve gone over to the dark side.
But I’m interested in hearing your views, not reading about why some unknown person of unstated qualifications (he says he read a lot about it, lol) doesn’t trust educated people. While I appreciate the fact that you took the time to read my post and respond, I must admit that in my opinion, the link you posted isn’t contributing much to the discussion, just using someone else’s views to take the easy way out. There’s no mention of bird migration patterns, for example. So my question to you is: HOW do the facts I’ve presented fail to speak for themselves?
You seem like a wise person and you’ve been around long enough to really have a good idea if any change in our climate is actually taking place. What are your personal observations about the weather where you live over the last 20 or 40 years?
Thanks again for responding. It’s good to hear from you.
-Kent
Well, first of all, the link I supplied is to a website, not a single article. I sponsor that website and I picked the articles there. To address some of your questions, I, personally, was not taught to read or write by anybody, certainly not by anybody from a University. My mother had to leave school at age 14 to work to support herself and she was the person who taught me the sounds the letters make. I took that information and began reading at age 3. By age 5, I was reading “The Count of Monte Cristo” and “The three Musketeers.” I read “Les Miserables” at age 7 and started reading History and Economics around age 10.
I very highly recommend that you read “The Underground History of American Education,” by John Gatto. There no longer is any American education, since it has been replaced and supplanted by indoctination. Education is showing a person how to learn; indoctrination is telling a person what to think.
Practically the definition of Climate is “change.” It has always changed. The new buzz-idea is that human activity will cause the end of all life on Earth in the near future unless we voluntarily become the slaves of the psychopaths and socialists who run the national government. Are you aware that the US Military establishment is exempt from all of the “environmental” rules the rest of us are forced to follow? You can be subject to a horrible fine if you vent your car A/C system to the air, but the military is the world’s largest user of chlorofluorocarbons and they vent their systems to the air as a regular practice. The government doesn’t care about CFCs or the ozone layer; they care about power and the use of force. Speaking of bird patterns, do you have any idea why birds flock to wires near traffic intersections? Neither do I, but I think it’s important. I have also noticed the seasonal migrations have changed. I have also noticed that entire bird groups have disappeared. We never used to have armadillos in Oklahoma but now the roads are littered with their carcasses. We are starting to see chachalacka birds around Tulsa, where they were never seen before. That’s a bird that’s native to the Mexican border. Let me address something from your message. If I read something with no supporting references, I can still recognize whether it’s BS or worth consideration. I have been reading an average of three books per week since I was 3 years old and I’m 72 now. I learned to think outside the box by reading SF and I learned background by reading History, Sociology, Economics and Science. A person probably doesn’t really understand economics unless they are familiar with Ludwig Von Mises. I doubt a person really can understand the American Civil War unless they are familiar with DiLorenzo. On the other hand, a really good mechanic probably knows more real-world physics than any Phd. Psychopaths seek power over others. Power over others also creates psychopaths. Non-psychopaths tend to follow and obey psychopaths. Those three principles explain everything you need to know about government. Let me know if I have missed anything here.
Cool. So you are also noticing that migration patterns are changing and that some species (armadillos and chachalackas, in your area) are shifting their habitats farther north (in our hemisphere, that is) due to climatic fluctuations of their comfort range. Maybe I wasn’t hallucinating after all.
Yes, I knew that the US military has carte blanche to break almost any environmental regulation right over their knee if they feel like it. It’s good to be reminded of these little inconsistencies, since we’re all responsible for what happens in the long run. But one of the most important things I mentioned hasn’t been addressed.
If you haven’t read it yet, there’s very well rounded ethnography on some people living on the island of Nanumea (a part of the Republic of Tuvalu which is located in Polynesia) who are losing their battle with the Pacific as the waters rise around them. According to the recent video I saw, every upcoming storm renews their fears of drowning. Their entire island is less than 12 feet above sea level at its highest point. It’s a coral atoll.
The book is called “Unity of Heart” by Keith and Anne Chambers. The Nanumean culture has survived the onslaught of the white explorers and the greed of the imperialist kings and queens who sent them, but is now dissolving into the waters of the ocean. Too bad; the girls there are quite beautiful, and their music is amazing.
I’m guessing you never had to attend public school. Man, are you ever lucky. I’ll look for Gatto’s book. The title reminds me of Howard Zinn’s excellent “People’s History of the United States” in which various episodes of our national development are seen through the eyes of its less famous participants instead of just the big-name indoctrinators. But you probably read it long ago.
Thanks for responding, Rocky.
pennsyltucky9, I did have to go to public school, but it was back during WW II and there were no “special ed” classes for “gifted” students, so I managed to get through it at least partly intact. They didn’t drug the kids back then, although I think they would have if they had thought they could get away with it. I suspect that Nanumea may be losing ground to something more complicated than simple ocean levels. I want to know more about this. The Earth is a dangerous place to live, but part of that danger is the influence of psychopaths, who will lie and deceive in order to gain power over others. My opinion is that global climate change has very little to do with the environment and a lot to do with the power struggles of liars and thieves, like Gore, Pelosi and Reid. Whatever the duopoly of the Demopublicrats does, it’s not going to be good for American liberty, children or small fuzzy animals.
Word up! Wisely spoken by drawing a conclusion on the basis of your own personal observations! It makes sense, and I have decided to agree with you for now!! The powers that be seem to agree with you too, since they are holding a conference about it next month.

The earth warms and cools naturally without the help of pollution. Whether or not the computer models are sufficient to predict the future can be debated. Pollution might affect the weather, but I fall short of believing that it is a controlling factor. Yet, despite my agnosticism, I’ve always been against pollution. So, I’m cool with reducing pollution. The cap ‘n’ trade tactic is a loser, unfortunately. It won’t work because China and India and the rest of the 3rd world aren’t on the program. If it won’t work, do something else (That’s my politics in a nutshell: Pragmatism). The reason why polluting technology is used is because it’s the cheapest. Cap ‘n’ trade comes with a price, and maybe that money would be better invested in R & D, to develop technology that is non-polluting and cheaper than present technology.
Nice job, Marina!! This is an important topic and you are doing a great job promoting it. Thanks!

Hey when you get my age, she’s doable.
She just looks that way because she straining her forehead to be in that position. Many women who lift weights at the gym have hot bodies.
@Capman,
And when you get to MY age, she’s adorable!
I think the climate of this discussion page is changing!
As Pandion said the worlds climate is always changing whether we help it or not. I believe that we are adding to the climate change by all of the gaseous by products that our factories and automobiles are contributing to the atmosphere. Some scientist believe that the Earth goes through a drastic change that occurs every 26 to 34 million years. Where are we now in years in that equation? Are we close to the 26 to 34 million year point? Who really knows, these are just scientific theories by different scientists and geological observers.
Home Work: Our state has mandated a recycle program for our trash, oil, batteries and any other items that would normally go to the land fill. So it’s a start on our part. Even if it had to be enacted in to law. Makes my trash can a lot lighter.
The REAL environmental problem is not man-made climate change, but the poisoning of the sea. Over time, chemicals concentrate in the sea, since everything washes down into it and there’s no way to flush it out. That’s why the sea gets continually more salty over time. Salt isn’t the only thing that concentrates. Now we have added all kinds of arcane chemicals to our lives and they keep washing into the sea. We get 80% of our breathable oxygen from plankton in the sea. When the plankton dies, so do we. Who is concerned with all the drugs and fertilizers and other chemicals and what they are doing to the plankton? This a far more dangerous situation than the popular environmentalist scares.
Certainly ozone depletion, green house gasses and global warming are bad things. Not to mention Acid Rain.
Man made global climate change is all a big scam. The Earth’s climate changes it always has.
Easy. Fact gathering is an important part of any diplomatic or business adventure. So man made global climate change would be a big scam then? Well, you probably know that some people say it’s not a big scam. We have two contradictory affirmations here, and there can be only one truth, pandion. Only one truth, and all the rest is a bunch of lies or at best half truths or white lies.
Can you prove that man made global climate change is a big scam and that industrialization has nothing to do with global warming?
Even if there were some real science behind the lies, the entire subject is being used to further enslave us to government and special interest groups. Government is far more dangerous than climate change, second-hand smoke or poor health care. Governments murdered at least 200 million humans in the last century. Any time you further empower governments, you increase the evil in the world.
Well, I don’t know if all governments are murderers or not, but all of them are extremely powerful spenders and extremely weak investors. Have you ever seen a government turn a profit, even if they print money by the truckload every year? How much do you think it costs the taxpayer to ship a politician to COP15?
It costs maybe a lot more than money.
I totally agree with you.You hit the nail on the head as far as I’am concerned !
On which basis do you agree with him? Dude. Unless you’re an expert on the matter and you can enlighten our ignorance with your last Ph.D. thesis or IEEE article, it is not very wise to take a stand on something you don’t know shit about.
The proper job of political leaders is to protect their nations from foreign invaders, to clearly define what constitutes a criminal action and what the penalties are for committing one, and to actually prosecute and to actually punish those who commit crimes. Also, the government should get involved only after a crime has been committed — it has no business “regulating” anything.
The political leaders have no business trying to do “good” for their citizens: no business providing health care, running mail service, running transportation, regulating industries, printing money etc.
The only thing one really knows about climate change is that it has been happening all the time, irrespective of how industrialized or primitive man was.
The so called “theories” about the nature of the changes in the climate, its causes, and proposed solutions are mere rationalizations by people, such as the leaders of greenpeace, who hate living on earth: what these people actually want is the eradication of all of mankind (themselves included).
It is proper for man to live by transforming nature (and there is no other way for him to live).
Are you saying that the political leaders love living on earth, and want the prolification and multiplication of mankind, while the greenpeace leaders hate living on earth and want to destroy it, and there’s no other way than this?
Interesting premise. Can you prove it?
How many more millions or billions of humans (mostly consumers-producers-workers I guess) inside each nation of earth would be appropriate for achieving a satisfactory level of comfortable and efficient living as per you?
In the comment, I mention the proper role for political leaders; their functions would be limited by a written constitution. Today’s actual leaders are evil.
It is improper for a person to think in terms such as “the prolification {proliferation} and and multiplication of mankind.”
It is up to each individual to define and pursue his own happiness, while not initiating force or committing fraud against others. It is not anybody’s job to guarantee that any individual will be successful in his pursuit. It is evil to be a Robin Hood who steals from some to give to others.
Dude, Robin Hood was stealing the rich to feed the poor if I remember the story well. Why do you think this is wrong?
Why do you say that today’s actual leaders are evil? All of them? Or some of them? Which percentage of them do you think is evil stuff? And why do you say it’s improper for someone to think in terms such as “the proliferation and multiplication of mankind” (sorry for the mispelling by the way). What would be proper thinking as per you? Comfort of mankind? Happiness of mankind? What would be proper behaviour? Run with the flow and work for the welfare of the powers that be?
Huh? Robbing from anyone, rich or poor, is wrong.
Proper to think in terms of individuals. A person is born, he exists, it is his life that he has to live. On his own, by trading with those who care to trade with him. He cannot expect others to live for him, nor must he live for others (must not seek “hand-outs/government-care/robbing” nor be “be his brother’s keeper”).
@Hs4Mm,
You seem to put individual trading above everything else. I think that’s a good definition of mercantilism (dominant school in Europe from the 16th to the 18th century). Since then, things have changed a bit, through revolutions, piracy, wars of conquests, prohibition and swashbuckling eras. Slaves working for free have been replaced by local foreign sweatshop workers at 5 bucks a day led by global CEOs at 50 millions bucks a year. Heck. You can’t stop progress, can you?
I can’t change the world, I can only change myself. Our leaders have their motives but it seems historically that never changes. I’m grateful to the people who are trying to make a difference professionally. I recycle, drive less, no aerosols, etc. Does it make a difference? If nothing else it passes the time between birth and death. Sorry so bleak, but the situation feels like that sometimes.
Really I think there is nothing that can be done about climate change. The planet gets a little closer to the sun, and then goes back again… The climate is always changing.. There is nothing we can do to stop the earth moving back and forth.

Good to see you talking about science !
It’s what scientists like to call the ‘real world’. lol Whatever that is !
And me, i’m some kind of scientist 2, tho what kind I’m not sure, maybe only a half-scientist. haha, which led to the word/term, [half-assed]. Where does that come from ? Voltaire’s ‘Candid’ perhaps, in that one character had one buttock romoved when they were all starving to death, and they picked lots and ate one buttock to survive. Tho I don’t recall that character as being ‘incompetent’ in the story, so that may strike it as a reference.
The other word origin that interests me is [pocketbook], a little book kept in the pocket to make notes on one’s spending? that later held coins?
Is global warming real ? Or is it being used as a pretext to usher in a ‘global one-world tyrrany’ in the form of a New World Order Government ?
In my experience, present CO2 levels are the highest in Greenland and Antarctic ice core history, BUT, the Sun has far more influence on Earth’s climate than anything else. The present extended solar sunspot minimum is a very real harbinger of a longterm cooling trend in present progress that could last 50 years or longer, if the 18th century Monder Minimum is any forerunner. That’s why those big houses built in the late 1700’s all had 9 fireplaces, it was a mini ice age then !
Hmm.. Aren’t leaders supposed to lead? And followers supposed to follow? Should we allow ourselves to be led by the richest? By the most numerous? By the most powerful? By the bullies?
Kyoto is already forgotten. Talk is cheap, and memory is short. Is there any reason why we should we expect COP15 to last longer or to be respected by rogue states in the future? Why do the rich grant themselves (and quite generously to be honest) the right to consume and pollute more than the poor?
“Reason and arguments are incapable of combatting certain words and formulas. They are uttered with solemnity in the presence of crowds, and as soon as they have been pronounced an expression of respect is visible on every countenance, and all heads are bowed.”

Marina, thank you for posting about the COP15 event and especially doing the origin of the words that you mentioned in the video.
Have you noticed that there is one particular word that seems to have dropped off of the climate change landscape?
Peak Oil? What ever happened to that?
At least I don’t hear much about Peak Oil anymore.
Do you remember talking to Kris about that last year?

I make my living in the Renewable Energy Business – mainly Solar Facilities.
All I want to say is that the information presented by our leaders is quite distorted and driven by Political Agenda far more than fact!
In college the solar tech classes where my favorite. I got real good at and thought that was the field I would enter.
Since I lived on the coast solar was not a big deal.
And therein lies the rub. Without the politicians nothing would move forward.
Will anything move forward WITH the politicians?
On a completely different topic, CJ, have you heard the phrase [Jesus Christ Made Seattle Under Protest]? Do you know what it refers to?
(Hint for anyone else who wants to have a go: it’s a [mnemonic] used by Seattle bus drivers.)
I heard of that before but have no clue on what it means.
Jefferson, James
Cherry, Columbia
Marion, Madison
Spring, Seneca
University, Union
Pike, Pine
Jesus
Christ
Made
Seattle
Under
Protest
I know those are street names but Im still clueless on what that all means.
“Jesus Christ Made Seattle Under Protest” is used to remember the order of downtown streets from south to north.
Harmless, double no fun, why bother?
Yo!
Just get people to stop calling ‘wind turbines’ wind mills.
One grinds grain and the other generates electricity.
Wind pumps, pumps water they also are not wind mills.
Notice that people are getting better at this.
Oy
Oy? Wot’s that mean, you doing a reverse imagine of my “Yo’
you’re such a cutie pie.
If I’m lucky you may reappear in my dreams tonight lol
You still have those BCDs?

Building a bridge at the Bella Center for COP15
…you GO girl!!!
Vice President Joe Biden is on The Daily Show with John Stewart and he just said,….the US is investing in wind mills.”
Drats, just when I thought people where getting better at distinguishing the difference. Thinking it’s a generational thing.
(Anyhow watch out Netherlands where going into the wind mill business.)
Good Point Che! The terms ARE used sloppily.
Oh…
Guilty. Sorry, I dint know.
Now I can go to bed knowing that I learned something worthwhile. All this Imperialism and Social Darwinism I have been reading is making my brain soggy. Thx for some really useful info…
All that sarcasm was directed back at me. Don’t want you thinkin’ I’m being an ass or anything like that…

@hotforwords Will you be consuming much Tryptophan Thursday of next week?
@hotforwords I have a selfish request. What are you doing for Thanksgiving? I’m planning to make a Cajun style feast, but would like a date
@hotforwords
@hotforwords I think you have a YouTube video for “Google” – are ya going to do one for “Bing”? What does “Bing” mean?
@hotforwords In reality, there is no such thing as “global warming.” It is merely a catch phrase coined by Al Gore to get him some pub!
