You are probably paying for a 1.5 Mb/s connection and so the download speed that you are seeing would be consistent with what you are paying for. You may or may not know that the web based speed monitors will never be able to register your actual speed. Only a speed monitor located on your PC can do that. For example: (I'm located in S. Calif, LA area) I am paying for a 3 Mb/s DSL connection and using the link you provided, I get: Download: 2553 kbps Upload: 429 kbps I also use NetPerSec to monitor my downloads. It registers my download speed exactly at 3000 kbps, which is what I am paying for. NetPerSec is no longer free and you can find it on the web. Presuming that there is nothing wrong with your PC or other issues, then to increase your Internet downloads, you would need to get a faster connection like I have. I could even pay for a 6 Mb/s connection, but I don't need it as I am able to watch all HD videos without stuttering. John, regarding your statement: "... in the beginning it was good..." How good is good? Was your measured download speed higher then, than what it is now? How much difference? How long have you had your connection? What is it? DSL? Cable? Lots of things can affect speed. My local community is constantly growing and the telephone guy is constantly adding and moving cables at corner B-box. Sometimes they mess up where lines get crossed, get cut and diminish the performance. Also, if your are running Windows and over time the Registry gets bigger and your PC is losing performance, which you observe as a more sluggish Internet connection. This is a very common problem. I don't have that program and I don't know anyone that does. Do you or a family member or friend have that program? If so, then you would want to open those photos in "Image Suite 9". I believe that program can Save / Export the photos to JPG. If the program cannot export to JPG, you could view the photo in full screen, then grab the photo with screen capture and paste into another photo editing program. If no one has the program, you could buy a used version from Amazon for $16 (the original was around $129), but the risk is that like all Microsoft crap, your photos will be one version different than all the programs out there and that "Image Suite" might not work for you. What is the file extension of those photos? Maybe I have a program that can view them. How many photos do you have? A few or hundreds. If you have more than 50, you may not want to convert them manually. There are imaging conversion programs out there that will do batch conversion. Most of them you can download for free. If you could upload the file to some storage file storage server, then I could grab the file and see if I can convert it. If I can convert it, then I can tell you what program to use. There are many free file storage servers and for many of them you don't need an account. You upload, then you get a special link which essentially is the password to the file. You may have to lie about the extension before the file can be uploaded. For example, if the photo file looks something like this; photo1.xyz Then, in order to upload, I recommend that you add a known extension that the server will like. Change photo1.xyz to photo1.xyz.txt or alternatively to photo1_xyz.txt Or convert photo1.xyz to photo1.xyz.zip or alternatively to photo1_xyz.zip P.S. Che tweeted that he owns the program. Che, if you find out that you can't convert or save to JPG, find out what popular format you can save them to, such as BMP, TIFF, etc. Then, I can tell you what free program you can download to do a batch conversion from BMP to JPG for example. First, Marina follows up on the word <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApJLOVlkd0U">irony</a> which has some controversy in terms of its usage and how its meaning is changing over time. Then, Marina discusses the expression "Three sheets to the wind", which ironically is not about the sheets that you might be thinking about, but, refers to the ropes used to control the setting of a sail in relation to the direction of the wind. You never want to refer to ropes on a ship, but refer to them as lines, halyards, and sheets. Hmmm, I wonder if I used the word ironically correctly? If you were to constantly get 1611 kbps, you would be fine for watching videos in the Normal mode. Selecting HD, you would be bandwidth starved. I am watching that same HotForWords video right now as you displayed above. Using my NetPerSec graph, the download bandwidth in NORMAL (HD button is black) is 900 kbps. In HD (HD button is red) the bandwidth is 2,600 kbps. That means you are right on the edge of being able to receive the video and buffering is inevitable. If you were to randomly pick other YT videos, you would see some videos use much lower bandwidth, let's say around 500 kbps. You would receive those without buffering. Regarding PC performance Your CPU usage is slamming into the 100% area. I see you have 2 GB RAM. I only have 1 GB RAM and I am blazing. Let's compare my system that is blazing and yours which is CPU starved. Threads: You: 831 Me: 399 Processes: You: 70 Me: 36 Memory Paged: You: 103MB Me: 64MB Cached: You: 1224MB Me: 433MB Free Physical Memory: You: 7MB Me: 472MB Look at the number of processes you are running. Way too many. Look at the Free Physical memory. You only have 7 MB left. I have 472 MB and I have less RAM to begin with. On the surface one might argue and say that since you have more memory you can afford to load more programs. The problem is that those programs can also eat up CPU horsepower. So, when people argue that you need more RAM is wrong unless one has a specific reason, such as using certain programs that require it. You are probably using it mainly for the Internet, email and a few other tidbits none of which should be loaded unless you need them. My RAM usage is way under 50%. Yours is over 50%. Look at the number of Processes you are running. Most people run about 70 and that's why they can't watch videos without buffering. Get rid of your Processes you don't need and I can tell you you don't need 40 of them. If you bring your processes down to 40, your system will be blazing. I can tell you how to do that in the Registry. You will want to remove the items in the RUN folder in the Registry. If you have never done it before, be careful or your system may crash. I can give you instructions and you need to follow them precisely. Are you using an external video card as opposed to the one on your motherboard? If I remember correctly you added one last year? If you are using an external video card, then you should have no problems once you remove the processes that are starving your system. Or, do you mean: While I am logged out, I am viewing comment #2 at the bottom of page x and when I log in, I expect to be returned to comment #2 at the bottom of page x. In either scenario, how do you log in / out without leaving comment #2? Don't you have to scroll back up to the top of the page to log out/in? Can you give some more details? What does work, and I am wondering if this is what you might mean, is this: Regardless of the login state, if I am viewing comment #2 on page x, then when I navigate away from the page by clicking on Yahoo on my personal toolbar, then when I use the "Back" button in my browser, I am returned to the comment and page that I left. I don't recall the scenario that you describe, and if it did exist, I can only speculate by saying that perhaps the recent pagination of about 80 comments per page had an effect? Another type of scenario that I observed goes like this: 1. I am logged out and I am viewing the Home page. 2. When I log in from the Home page, I am taken to the Latest Video lesson page. 3. If I am logged out, and I am on any page other than the Home page, then, when I log in, I remain on the page that I was viewing prior to logging in. Given that scenario, perhaps I might speculate and say that defaulting to the top of the current lesson, is a way to give everyone the opportunity to be on the same page, as it where. There's this undefinable mesmerising charm about her look in the "Male vs Female" video. The GTA IV in russian was cool as well. Didn't have a clue what she was saying but she seemed so cool and natural speaking in her mother tongue. It 'd be cool to see her incorporate Russian a bit more. I really hate to say this, but today, even though the videos are still great, they are just too polished. The ironic thing is she looks a hundred times better when she's just herself. You are NOT appearing on the SEARCH timeline. This is a very common problem with Twitter. The same thing happened to darlingj. He submitted a ticket to Twitter and they fixed it, then it happened again, and then they fixed it again. Do this test. Using your browser, go to Twitter.com It does NOT matter if you are logged in or not. If you are NOT logged in, you will get a big Search box. If you are logged in, use the Search box on the right hand side. Now, enter into the search box: capman911 (exactly as shown, no quotes, no at sign) Now, do you see any of YOUR tweets? No. But, you do see tweets of people like Captain who is tweeting at you. When I go to your profile, I see you have tweeted many times, and I do see your tweets regarding the two words "please" and "thank you" but they are not showing up on the timeline. This is a common problem with Twitter. I recommend that you submit a ticket to Twitter to get it fixed. What they will do is clear the cache on their end. Since their cache is screwed up, your tweets are not being seen by those people that use the Twitter search as I do and as is the case with most people who would see your tweets via search. Summary: it was a virus. Here's more details. Since 1998, I have had two computers, one a Win 98 and another an XP Pro. I have had the XP Pro for about 5 years now. (I got a new XP Pro around July, and am still migrating to it; should finish the migration this month. I configured this laptop myself and believe it is close to the best one could buy in July.) I have had 2 virus attacks to each of those computers. All 4 of those attacks were successfully resolved using the same technique. Here are the steps: I google the symptoms. This leads me to one or two Forums dedicated to virus removal. These forums have experts in computer security from all over the world offering free step by step guidance to people with infected computers. Each topic in the forum is dedicated to one individual's issue. (The expert for my latest case lives in Finland!) Usually, the first thing the experts have you do is to download and run a program called "hijackthis.exe". This was created and developed by an individual (in the 90s), but is now owned by TrendMicro, and is still available for free use by anybody. Based on the log generated by hijackthis, they have you run some virus detection tool. In my latest case, I had run both Symantec and BitDefender on my own -- neither of them detected anything wrong with the computer! But, based on the symptoms and the report by hijackthis, the expert had me run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (mbam) product. Mbam found the Trojans. I googled the names of the files mbam found, and did not get many hits, and did not get any hits from the major security software sites such as Symantec. So it is some rare Trojan, and I am glad Malwarebytes knew about it. (There could be other viruses not known to Malwarebytes but known to Symantec or to Bitdefender! Moral: running only one security tool is not sufficient.) The expert would then have the user direct the detection tool to remove the bad things found. In my latest case, Malwarebytes was only partially successful in getting rid of the bad things! So then the expert had me run another tool called the "Brute Force Uninstaller" -- this one got rid of the remaining bits left un-removed by mbam. In this HFW Forum topic, I have mentioned a memory leak seen in Firefox. The Firefox "memory leak" issue still remains and people tell me it is common. And, since the clean-up of the PC, it is not affecting my user-experience.
