Yeah, I haven't tried exporting it to the mac yet. I think I did years ago but the software hissed at me. I'm expecting it to default to 1280x720 or somewheres there. Once it's uploaded to YT they will adjust it in software.

I think I'll go up to 5 megs on the bit rate. I don't want to push it to far and end up on HD. They have a ways to go before HD can be a viable product on our crappy internet. Also the current version of FLV (flash) has many issues. There is a chance that will be dropped for another competing product that will do a better job and with not needing to pay any royalties.

Im not going to do a test video. My bandwidth sucks and I really don't have time to mess with it. It just has to work the first time. I know Im not the first person on the planet to do this. <img src="http://www.hotforwords.com/forums/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":-)" class="bb_smilies" />

Thanks for you help PK. I wanted to upload it right now for many people are sleeping and the bandwidth is optimal. I don't think I'll get that on Monday morning. If I get drop in the upload, I'll have to re-upload again. Grrrr!

@Captain Jack
Besides bitrate, you want to make sure you select the best resolution.
Your camera might have some or all of these selections; 720x, 640x, 480x, 320x
or it might use slightly different numbers due to the 16:9 format.

YouTube steers away from recommending bitrates due to various types of codecs, for example MPG1, MPG2, WMV, etc.
http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=132460

Using my experience as a reference point, I render WMV files using 640x and adjust the horizontal to 360x to give a 16:9 format and render at these rates:
• 1Mb/s - 2Mb/s and lower is considered low quality. (used for testing)
• 3Mb/s - 4Mb/s is average
• 4Mb/s - 6Mb/s is ideal for best HighQuality on YouTube.

I recommend that you create a 10 second test video, render and upload to check it out. It's possible that you could run into all kinds of other issues such as the video not fitting properly in the player. The YT Help site indicates all kinds of problems that you could encounter.

I've been shooting my videos in 16:9 format in [SD]. (That's not a typo, It shoots SD in a 16:9 format.) I need to know what bit rate I need to render the video for Youtube. I need to know before December 1st, 2009 as I will be set for sail pretty soon.

GP: Actually, I think she uses a bluescreen for chromakey - quite often I've noticed a slight blue tinge around the edges of her hair.

As for how she does it, as long as the screen's a matt colour, many "professional" video editing suites can cope with it. I've seen Pinnacle in use, and all you have to do is point to an area of the screen, tweak a slider to define the range of colours it replaces (there will, after all, be some variation in the exact shade of blue picked up by the camera), then tell it what you want to replace the blue with. I'd assume FC Pro works in a similar way.

is that cam user friendly? Cause it looks big, It looks like a News cam, I would think you would use a small and easy cam. Like a Mini HD Cam. what is the difference between a Big HD Sony Cam, and a everyday small HD sony cam?

The rule that you get what you pay for is not always true. In my 22 years I've seen products that where a complete rip off and yet products of less cost out preform others. Some product are just over engineered for most users. The big difference I see in comparable products is MTBF. Mean time between failures. Commercial product are usually have a large MTBF rating. Consumer products may have the same features yet are built with cheaper materials and manufacturing procedures. Sometimes what I will do to save money for a company is purchase 5 units of a product that is 10 times cheaper than the pro version. The idea is in time we would save half of our expenses. Also with they speed that technology is changing buy the time we pay off a piece of equipment there is a better, faster, cheaper product coming out. That said I don't use this decisions for every item I choose. Sometime if you have a piece of equipment that is critical like in life saving you don't skip on price but search for ultimate quality.

Tony Reale has an awesome Canon HV-30 set up. It's a bit more than what they YT user needs but I find the HV-30 for it's price point can preform as well or in some case even better than the $5,000 Pro equipment. I've been doing some reasearch on this prosumer camera and from what Im hearing and what I read it's a nice machine.

Check out one of Tony's videos: http://www.vimeo.com/919639

@NerdWithNoLife, Really! Wow the price dropped! I have been keeping my eye on that cam. I have an old Canon ZR10 that I want to replace. I spent over $1,300 for it. ZR10 does wide screen (cropped) not HD. I never used that feature because nobody was using it. What attracted me to the HV30 is that I can keep the compact size and still shoot HD. I hate carrying around the professional broadcast quality cams. They just make me not want to film anything. They are just way to bulky and HEAVY! Lenses are not the greatest on the HV30 but for what I'm going to use it for no one will notice. If I ever want to sup it up I can. See this guys set up. That's a bit much but the cam can be supped up. Another big thing for me is that it still uses tapes. Yea they suck but what people forget is that when your out on job you need to have something to drop all that data on. I wanted some removable storage. Tapes are dirt cheap! You can put a few dozen in your camera bag. Many manufactures are dumping the tapes but I think that is a mistake right now. Also I never erase my tapes. I just keep them for later use.

Thanks for the tip...

Agreed kaibanator, the software that comes on every mac is good enough to produce practically anything.

I think the 192 AAC is finally working properly on YouTube.. I will stick with that until I get another skip. The Apple Lossless failed to process when I uploaded.

May I just say that using a Mac and Final Cut Pro is a great choice for video editing. <img src="http://www.hotforwords.com/forums/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_mrgreen.gif" title="" class="bb_smilies" />

Now I wish I had a Mac, other than my cat, who has the same name <img src="http://www.hotforwords.com/forums/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_lol.gif" title="" class="bb_smilies" />

For those worried about breaking the bank on an HD camera, Canon's HV30 is on sale for Christmas to around $600. That was the magic price for me. Six years ago, I never would have thought great looking HD would be in my price range - let alone HD on the internet!

I hope you can see the link in my above post - the dark green doesn't show up as well as the blue on the HFW site.
