Not many companies could get away with defending controversial data retention practices by saying that the data is needed to "learn from good guys, fight off bad guys, [and] invent the future." But that's how Google sees itself and its practices—not surprising from a company that would give itself an unofficial motto like "don't be evil."
Shows a representation of the goddess Ishtar (Inana/Inanna), winged and wearing a version of the horned cap of divinity. The pubic triangle and belly-button are heavily emphasized, while the breasts were crudely scratched in as an afterthought. FCC sources had suggested back in the wake of those two lower-court decisions, which overturned indecency findings, that the commission's hands were effectively tied. The sources further implied it was a safe bet that no indecency complaints would be followed up anytime soon.

Republican Commissioner Robert McDowell said during his renomination hearing last June that it was past time for the commission to start clearing out the backlog of what was then some 1.2 million indecency complaints. An aide to the commissioner, while saying there has been no group briefing on indecency issues in general, added that there was no comment on the apparent resumption of indecency letters.

Renewed call to action

But the Supreme Court's remand and/or reversal of both decisions, and a new FCC chairman vowing to clear out a backlog of complaints of all types, has once again inspired action on the indecency front. "They have a ton of those things, and I think they are just trying to push them out," said one of the communications attorneys.

He said that the complaint letter he was familiar with targeted a 2006 episode of [ ]Dr. Phil dealing with masturbation. He said that before this letter went out, it had been "approximately forever"-certainly more than a year-since he had seen a letter of inquiry on indecency out of the FCC.

The other attorney would not identify the subject of the complaint, but said it was a separate complaint and that he knew of at least one other, though he had not seen it.

Since the Dr. Phil complaint is not about nudity or profanity, it would appear to be a long shot for FCC action. But even though a letter does not mean the FCC will necessarily levy a fine, it still requires action on the broadcaster's part.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Die Inquisition in Portugall" - Original Miniature Copper Engraving from the book: "Description de L'Univers, Contenant les Différents Systèmes de Monde, Les Cartes Générales & Particulières de la Géographie Ancienne & Moderne."

SverhckovIn 1834, a Trotting Society was established in Moscow, and regular races began. Orlov trotters had already proved to be the best racing horses in Russia and soon they proved to be the best in Europe. In 1867, Orlov trotter Beduin made headlines when, at World's Fair in Paris, it covered 3500 feet in 1 minute 32 seconds – 4 seconds ahead the fastest Standardbred mare, Flora Temple. Since then many trotters have been sold abroad where they greatly contributed to the creation of local trotting breeds. Meanwhile, in the USA, Standardbreds were gradually improved until they were able to outrace Orlov trotters. In 1877, harness racing totalisator emerged in Russia and this led to crucial changes in breeding Orlovs. Many stud-farmers turned to raising racing horses who were not as large and hard-working or as beautiful and elegant as traditional Orlov trotters. The Orlov Trotter (also known as Orlov; Russian: орловский рысак) is a horse breed with a hereditary fast trot, noted for its outstanding speed and stamina. It is the most famous Russian horse. The breed was developed in Russia in the late 18th century by Count Alexei Orlov at his Khrenovskoy Stud farm near the town of Bobrov (Voronezh guberniya) . The Orlovs emerged as the result of crossing various European mares (primarily of English, Dutch, Mecklenburg, and Danish breeding) with Arabian stallions.

During the 19th century, Orlov trotters were used mainly for riding and harness racing by Russian nobility. They were valued for their beauty and elegance combined with the ability to work hard.
The Russian Heavy Draft is usually short and muscular, with thick manes and tails and legs that are lightly feathered. This breed is known for having excellent traction when pulling weight because of its short legs. The Russian Heavy Draft has a neck that is thick and well crested, and has a docile temperament. It is agile and energetic, and is good for rough terrain. It is an easy keeper that is tolerant of the cold, and has been known to be able to pull more weight (relative to its body mass) than any of the other breeds developed during the Soviet period. These horses reach physical maturity at an earlier date than most horses. Breeding stallions are usually 150 cm at the withers.

In Egyptian mythology, Apis or Hapis (alternatively spelt Hapi-ankh), was a bull-deity worshipped in the Memphis region.

According to Manetho, his worship was instituted by Kaiechos of the Second Dynasty. Hape (Apis) is named on very early monuments, but little is known of the divine animal before the New Kingdom. Ceremonial burials of bulls indicate that ritual sacrifice was part of the worship of the early cow deities and a bull might represent a king who became a deity after death. He was entitled "the renewal of the life" of the Memphite god Ptah: but after death he became Osorapis, i.e. the Osiris Apis, just as dead humans were assimilated to Osiris, the king of the underworld.
It was named Aser-hapi (i.e. Osiris-Apis), which became Serapis, and was said to be Osiris in full, rather than just his Ka (life force).Sacred bull Apis.
Eucharist analogies
Walter Burkert summarized modern revision of a too-facile and blurred identification of a god that was identical to his sacrificial victim, which had created suggestive analogies with the Christian Eucharist for an earlier generation of mythographers:

The concept of the theriomorphic god and especially of the bull god, however, may all too easily efface the very important distinctions between a god named, described, represented, and worshipped in animal form, a real animal worshipped as a god, animal symbols and animal maskes used in the cult, and finally the consecrated animal destined for sacrifice. Animal worship of the kind found in the Egyptian Apis cult is unknown in Greece. ("Greek Religion," 1985). In Hinduism, the cow is a symbol of wealth, strength, abundance, selfless giving and a full Earthly lifeTiangong_Kaiwu_Tripod_Casting.jpg‎ (400 × 309 pixels, file size: 159 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)
In Genesis, the first book of the Jewish and Christian Bibles, God creates Adam and Eve, the first man and woman, in his own image. God places them in the Garden of Eden and forbids them to eat fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil (often symbolized in European art and literature as an apple tree). The serpent persuades Eve to eat fruit from the forbidden tree. Eve shares the fruit with Adam and they immediately become ashamed of their nakedness.

To the Serpent, God said:

Because you have done this,
cursed are you among all animals and among all wild creatures;
upon your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat
all the days of your life.
I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your offspring and hers;
he will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.

Often such banishment is a punishment for disobeying or rebelling against God (see War in Heaven). The best-known fallen angel is Lucifer. Lucifer is a name frequently given to Satan in Christian belief. This usage stems from a particular interpretation, as a reference to a fallen angel, of a passage in the Bible (Isaiah 14:3-20) that speaks of someone who is given the name of "Day Star" or "Morning Star" (in Latin, Lucifer) as fallen from heaven. The Greek etymological synonym of Lucifer, Φωσφόρος (Phosphoros, "light-bearer").
Soon thereafter, a group of ten Congregationalist ministers led by James Pierpont, all of whom were alumni of Harvard, met in the study of Reverend Samuel Russell in Branford, Connecticut, to pool their books to form the
The art or process of "seeing" is known as "scrying," whereby images are seen in crystals, or other mediums such as water, and are interpreted as meaningful information. The "information" gleaned then is used to make important decisions in one's life (i.e. love, marriage, finances, travel, business, etc).

From Wikipedia ....
Reefer Madness is a 1936 propaganda film revolving around the tragic events that follow when high school students are lured by pushers to try "marihuana": a hit and run accident, manslaughter, suicide, rape, and descent into madness all ensue.

The film was directed by Louis J. Gasnier and starred a cast composed of mostly unknown bit actors. It was originally financed by a church group and made under the title Tell Your Children.

The film was intended to be shown to parents as a morality tale attempting to teach them about the dangers of cannabis use.[ ] However, soon after the film was shot, it was purchased by producer Dwain Esper, who recut the film for distribution on the exploitation film circuit.[1] The film never gained an audience until it was rediscovered in the 1970s and gained new life as a piece of unintentional comedy among cannabis smokers.[1][3] Today, it is in the public domain in the United States and is considered a cult film.
The media used are most commonly reflective, translucent, or luminescent substances such as crystals, stones, glass, mirrors, water, fire, or smoke. Scrying has been used in many cultures as a means of divining the past, present, or future. Depending on the culture and practice, the visions that come when one stares into the media are thought to come from God, spirits, the psychic mind, the devil, or the subconscious.[u]

Although scrying is most commonly done with a crystal ball, it may also be performed using any smooth surface, such as a bowl of liquid, a pond, or a crystal
Joseph Smith dictated the manuscript of the Book of Mormon while looking at his seer stone or "Urim and Thummim" in his hat.---^ David Whitmer, one of the Three Witnesses, described Smith's method of translation:"Joseph Smith would put the seer stone into a hat, and put his face in the hat, drawing it closely around his face to exclude the light; and in the darkness the spiritual light would shine. A piece of something resembling parchment would appear, and on that appeared the writing. One character at a time would appear, and under it was the interpretation in English. Brother Joseph would read off the English to Oliver Cowdery, who was his principal scribe, and when it was written down and repeated to Brother Joseph to see if it was correct, then it would disappear, and another character with the interpretation would appear. Thus the Book of Mormon was translated by the gift and power of God, and not by any power of man." David Whitmer, Address to All Believers in Christ Part 1 (1886)

When the brewery was taken over by Courage the beer was renamed Courage Imperial Russian Stout.[8] It has a high alcohol content - nine or ten percent abv is common. This higher alcoholic content was necessary to prevent the beer from freezing in transport, due to the colder temperatures in the BalticThe Top 10 Beer Universe SongsBeer is the world’s oldest and most widely consumer alcohol beverage. In December 2009, Schorschbrau set a new limit for their beer and brewed a 40% ABV beer. Want to try some? Get in line, the beer is only available from Schorschbrau directly. They had originally only created 55, 0.5 liter bottles but grew that to 250 bottles when demand started to soar. Each bottles bears the personal signature of the Brewmaster and is seals with wax.

Antoine Marie Joseph Artaud, better known as Antonin Artaud (September 4, 1896, in Marseille – March 4, 1948 in Paris) was a French playwright, poet, actor and theatre director. Antonin is a diminutive form of Antoine (little Anthony), and was among a long list of names which Artaud used throughout his life.Antonin Artaud ....global....labog...global{food~fight} Biographical information
Artaud's parents, Euphrasie Nalpas and Antoine-Roi Artaud, were of Greek origin (Smyrna), and he was much affected by this background.[1] Although his mother had nine children, only Antoine and two siblings survived infancy.

At the age of four, Artaud had a severe attack of meningitis. The virus gave Artaud a nervous, irritable temperament throughout adolescence. He also suffered from neuralgia, stammering and severe bouts of depression. As a teenager, he was allegedly stabbed in the back by a pimp for no apparent reason, similar to the experience of playwright Samuel Beckett.

Artaud's parents arranged a long series of sanatorium stays for their disruptive son, which were both prolonged and expensive. They lasted five years, with a break of two months, June and July 1916, when Artaud was conscripted into the army. He was allegedly discharged due to his self-induced habit of sleepwalking. During Artaud's "rest cures" at the sanatorium, he read Arthur Rimbaud, Charles Baudelaire, and Edgar Allan Poe. In May 1919, the director of the sanatorium prescribed laudanum for Artaud, precipitating a lifelong addiction to that and other opiates.

Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness characterized by persistent defects in the perception or expression of reality. A person experiencing untreated schizophrenia typically demonstrates grossly disorganized thinking, and may also experience delusions or auditory hallucinations. Although the illness primarily affects cognition, it can also contribute to chronic problems with behavior or emotions. Due to the many possible combinations of symptoms, it is difficult to say whether it is in fact a single psychiatric disorder; and Eugen Bleuler deliberately called the disease "the schizo ...

The statue was unveiled in September 2003, as a tribute to Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The sculptor was Alan B Herriot of Penicuik, Scotland.

Coleridge lived in the nearby village of Nether Stowey, about 10 miles from this statue. In 1797, while on a walking tour, Coleridge visited Watchet. On seeing the harbour, it is believed he was inspired to compose The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
Introduced into Rome (c. 200 BC) from the Greek culture of southern Italy or by way of Greek-influenced Etruria, the bacchanalia were held in secret and attended by women only, in the grove of Simila, near the Aventine Hill, on March 16 and 17. Subsequently, admission to the rites were extended to men and celebrations took place five times a month. The mystery-cult may have been seen as a threat to the political status quo.
It builds upon the principal theory of George C. Williams's first book Adaptation and Natural Selection. Dawkins coined the term "selfish gene" as a way of expressing the gene-centred view of evolution, which holds that evolution is best viewed as acting on genes and that selection at the level of organisms or populations almost never overrides selection based on genes.

An organism is expected to evolve to maximize its inclusive fitness—the number of copies of its genes passed on globally (rather than by a particular individual). As a result, populations will tend towards an evolutionarily stable strategy. The book also coins the term meme for a unit of human cultural evolution analogous to the gene, suggesting that such "selfish" replication may also model human culture, in a different sense. Memetics has become the subject of many studies since the publication of the book.
He undertook different ecclesiastical duties in Puebla and the region of the Volcanoes in the period 1540-1545.Primeros Memoriales.

In 1561 he moved his base to Tlatelolco where he gathered a similar group of highborn and aged Nahuas to serve as his informants. In the next eight years he completed the twelve books of the Historia general de las cosas de Nueva España, an unparalleled work in Náhuatl which was completed in 1569. Consisting of twelve books and a grammar and dictionary of Náhuatl, the Florentine Codex, as it is more commonly known, is one of the richest surviving sources of information on Aztec life before the conquest. In the period 1575-1577 the Nahuatl text was translated paraphrastically by Sahagún and afterwards in 1578-1580 worked into the format known today with a Spanish and Nahuatl columns side by side and rich illustrations. Around 1588 it reached Italy where it resides to day in the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana in Firenze, whence it takes its commonly used title Florentine Codex. (Nicholson 1997 pp3–14)

Sahagún has often been called "the father of modern ethnography", because his methods included using native informants to elicit information on Aztec culture from the Aztecs' point of view. He was interested not only in converting the natives but also in describing their way of life and particularly from a philological desire to document as fully as possible the Nahuatl language and compile a body of literature in Nahuatl to serve for those who wished to master the Nahuatl tongue, an objective in which he succeeded fully. Sahagún himself explained the purpose of his work:..............

@traveller23,

Going off-season to the Odessa opera when all the big Ukrainian opera beasts are off is like drinking too much tequila?

Aha! I do understand the feeling now! This microwave experiment produced some results, after all!

As for the babes of Nunavut, well I think you should go to more crowded places to make a fortune on the net. Where quantity counts, English counts. You wouldn't speak inuktitut to "all-american" people, would you? They simply wouldn't understand anything.

Billy Dee - Drinking Tequila (Fabor Records) from 1954~This song was later recorded in '55 by Jim Reeves, who had a huge hit with it. But in it's own right, it was the biggest seller on Fabor records up until that point in time, anyway. The worm
It is a common misconception that some tequilas contain a 'worm' in the bottle. Only certain mezcals, usually from the state of Oaxaca, are ever sold con gusano, and that only began as a marketing gimmick in the 1940s. The worm is actually the larval form of the moth Hypopta agavis that lives on the agave plant. Finding one in the plant during processing indicates an infestation and, correspondingly, a lower quality product. However this misconception continues, and even with all the effort and marketing to represent tequila as a premium—similar to the way cognac is viewed in relation to brandy
The Champs: Too Much Tequila**************************Eagles - Tequila Sunrise HDThere were no distilled beverages in Mexico before the Spanish Conquest. The Spaniards were introduced to native fermented drinks such as pulque, also made from the maguey plant. Soon the conquistadors began experimenting with the maguey plant to find a way to make a distillable fermented mash. The result is mezcalThe maguey was one of the most sacred plants in pre-Hispanic Mexico and had a privileged position in religious rituals, mythology and the economy. Cooking of the “piña” or heart of the maguey and fermenting its juice was known. The origin of this drink has a myth. It is said that a lightning bolt struck an agave plant cooking and opening it, releasing its juice. For this reason, the liquid is called the “elixir of the gods.”

Hmmm! That reminds me of the time I tried to make a fortune with the website "babesofnunavut.com"

Despite the relative dearth of source material, I did actually get about 5 unique hits per day. This was in the later 90's when people just obsessively typed in domain possibilities to see what they'd get.

Maybe I had a hot iron, no hammer. Bummer.

Ever check out the opera house in Odessa? Really one of the most magnificent in the world, in terms of design, but I was there in a slightly 'off' season and all the big Ukrainian talent was off in other major cities, so the performance itself was...well...imagine going to the Met or the Vienna Opera and paying full rates, for Modesto, California's own Grover Cleveland Middle School Singers.

Yeah. Or if the dear reader doesn't have much of an operatic ear, let's do a cross-sensory analogy...

It's kind of like drinking waaay too much horrid tequila at midnight House of Pain concert in Tijuana. It takes years and years before you'll ever trust tequila again, no matter what brand or quality grade it claims on the bottle.
