Regarding the "Several" video: I waited over 1 hr 10 min just to give YouTube time to do what it needs to do.

I did not get any email notification.

Then, on the youtube-dot-com page: Subscriptions did show “Several” (also, “view all” showed “Several” in both “New Videos” and “hotforwords”).

However, message-inbox was empty; and friend activity was empty.

Watched the video starting from listing in the youtube-dot-com page’s Subscriptions area. (After watching, “Several” was removed from both youtube-dot-com page’s Subscriptions area and “view all”’s “New Videos” area; it remains in “view all”’s “hotforwords” area.)

    Hello Marina,
All is well on my YT account and has been.

You have been well represented at all times including the "Recommended for You" box. YT has shown me many recommendations from your older videos, including Antidisestablismentarianism, which by the way is #2 on Google search. Try it guys. I love that video. Marina does an awesome job on that video.

This is my YT account subscriptions box sorted by date. Notice your latest video is in the most recent #1 spot. BillyB's is #4 as his was uploaded one day ago.

Even if I were to only log into my account once a week, I would still see your video in the subscription box as at the moment, I see eight videos repesented there covering 5 days.

This is the friends activities box and Cufan71 has rated you and I see foxbow15 just favorited you. Dang, I better get on the stick. Be right back. Gotta rate, favorite it and subscribe. Oh, wait. I am already subscribed.

    Footnote: 10 minutes later

I watched the HFW "Several" video on the HFW site only (for now),
and was NOT logged into either YouTube nor HFW.

Then, when I logged into my YT account, the HFW "Several" video
is now not showing anymore, which indicates that the Google cookie
tracked that I watched the video outside the YT domain.

My situation is the same as for hs4mm, above.
BTW, I only ever get an email from YouTube at the end of a week as a weekly summary, and then not every week.

pedanticKarl, I can't tell what's going on at Google/Youtube. I cannot say that my original guess was wrong, because the 30 minutes or so that I've waited may not have been enough. Google/Youtube didn't manage to provide a preview pic for Marina's new video within 54 minutes to me, so how could I expect that Google/Youtube could be able to handle personal data collected from my http-requests within about half an hour.

    Marina,

When I signed into to YT today I checked and didn't see your latest video listed on subscription notification board and so I had to go to my profile page and click on your subscription icon and got in that way. A few days ago I had noticed your latest video was showing there, then today no show. What the heck? So I do think it's a shuffle thing and you're right- we really have to get on this and figure out what is going on, right? so now we're having to figure this shuffle thing out, geesh. Perhaps I should thank YT for a free tech support training, or not.

Hi everyone, here comes part 2 of my investigation on Youtube's user-tracking:

This morning, I went to Youtube, logged in, went to "My Subscriptions", and this is what I've got:
    http://i42.tinypic.com/259ixb4.jpg

I didn't log out on Youtube and went to Youtube's main page.

I opened http://www.hotforwords in another tab and watched Marina's Valentine's Day video. I waited a few minutes and returned to the Youtube browser tab. There, I went to My subscriptions, and this is what was shown to me:
    http://i39.tinypic.com/kstck.png

The Valentine's Day video that I've watched on http://www.hotforwords.com has dissapeared from the "New Videos" box under "My Subscriptions". So, Google is obviously keeping track of what Youtube-videos logged-in users watch on 3rd-party-sites.

The main reason why I've created a new Youtube account yesterday was that the old one was connected to my gmail-account. I don't want Google to be able to create a profile of me under my real name based on the content of the emails that I write and receive, the videos that I watch on Youtube, the keywords that I'm using when I'm using Google's search engine and other traces that I leave on Google-related websites. You may have noticed that yesterday Youtube suggested to me some videos which had the word "evil" in their title. These suggestions appeared after I've searched for Marina's "medieval - evil" video on Youtube using the keyword "evil". After that, Youtube rated me as the evil guy because that was the only keyword that I've used on Youtube. I don't want to be profiled that way.

I watched all my new subscriptions which cleared everything out. Now everything is working normally. Lesson learned is don't bet on YT for reliability. Who knows it might all collapse onto it's self.

Do you mean collapsing like the financial markets, Cap'n? OMG, are they run by computers (HAL), too?

"Well, I don't think there is any question about it. It can only be attributable to human error. This sort of thing has cropped up before and it has always been due to human error."
