Hi guys.. I know this has been asked before.. but I'd like to update the list. What are your favorite video lessons of mine? Post links to the actual videos as well. I think I will feature the winning videos on the homepage.

My favorites are (some recent ones!):
    Shrink - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSOmbcv4f34
    Amnesia - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5N-GOPuAhf0
    Hangover - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_Lhtri21hg
    Poindexter - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KIYFRhkA54

    What are yours?

As you know Marina, choosing from 473 videos is tough when everyone of them is my favorite. So, by default, I pick all of them. OK, since you wanted some links, here are three of my favorites and why.

I picked the "GTA IV in Russian" lesson because it is done entirely in Russian. First, I loved your passion, seeing you speaking in your native tongue. I don't know Russian, but it seems I can almost understand it. I loved how you explained the complexity of pronouncing the "double-u" sound at the end to me. Your passion comes through loud and clear and I love how animated you are as if you are speaking to just me. There is no one else here. It's just you and me, right?

I picked the lesson on "Hot" as it is part of your namesake, and in this lesson you clearly announce why you are Hot For Words, because you are passionate about words. When you explained that, You passion just skyrocketed out of this universe.

I picked the "The Fifth Element" because I loved how you explained the meaning behind the word and how it applies to quintessential, the most important thing. I loved the phone call at the end where you confirm the pronunciation of the word. Very charming lesson just made for me.

Disclaimer: I have not actually seen all your posts. I started going over your posts chronologically, but stopped when paged comments were introduced.

I have some favorites among your videos, but the criteria is not based on content or presentation; rather the criteria is that of having some significance in my life. But there is a certain exception, which I will mention later.

    1) I think this is the very first video of yours that I saw: Abracadabra http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76yUtRgV2HA

    2) I like you, and so the very first video-set you made as HotForWords is of significance to me:

    2.a) Intro to Philology: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_s-u3ZN_YXs
    2.b) Depilation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTwwmBqZR6A

    3) I knew about the origin of vanilla from your Maxim Radio Show; yet, when I saw the video, I learnt something (a piece of knowledge unrelated to etymology!) that was very important for me to know: Vanilla http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HKVM1GWTH8

    4) I like hearing you sing Grandfather's clock! Grandfather Clock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5XR6DAuIOc

    5) Your interviews offer insight into you, so I like them all.

I started by saying that my criteria for labeling a video as a favorite was that of having some significance in my life; but that there was a certain exception. Here's the exception: If you asked me what is my favorite among all of the products you have created so far from the point of view of enjoying it as a product per se, my answer would be:

In terms of consuming a product you create my top-most favorite is reading your Top 10 Word Myths – Ask Men Article http://www.hotforwords.com/2008/10/26/ask-men-article/ and http://www.askmen.com/top_10/entertainment/top-10-word-myths.html I really mean this; to use YouTubeCommentSpeak, I actually get a boner as I read (yes, read, has nothing to do with the pictures) your answers!

PS: will all the links on this page to your videos on YouTube help with marketing HotForWords, perhaps by making your videos and the HotForWords Channel show up higher on various YouTube rankings?

With so many to choose from, it's very hard to pick just one. I like the music video James did. You know it's over 2.6 million views? It would be cool if the video was updated to HD, though you would see the lines on the effects that the lower quality hides.

@ PK I think she meant her videos on her YT site and not other videos from other people's sites. I can see where it could be construed to mean the four she has picked out at the top of the page.

Damn Karl - I was going to vote the Drew network 'PSA proposal' and 'original Hotforwords fan' because I relate to them so much! (and I DO!)

At GREAT RISK of appearing a total KISS ASS - my first choices are actually Marina's above because I see all four as masterpieces of Scripting, Performance, Message, and Editing - really well honed examples of craft, wit, production, etc.

To take it to a more personal level, I concur with Hs4mm on 'Grandfather's Clock' because the performance and singing is very cute and endearing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5XR6DAuIOc

I also loved http://www.hotforwords.com/2008/08/06/ukulele-the-next-big-thing/ for the clever scripting.

Another favorite is Pedigree because I found the origin most interesting and surprising. http://www.hotforwords.com/2008/04/13/pedigree/

I really think that the question is a little broad. My answer kind of depends on what you want to do with the results?

The body of work is so broad that there is really something to like in every one so it's almost like the Academy Awards where there are LOTS of winners for various categories.

I'm guessing you want to feature your 'Best' on the homepage in anticipation of all the new viewers who will be flooding in to HFW.com shortly - once they come here, they need to know where to start and get 'hooked'? That was sort of a problem for me as a 'N00b' as there is so much to choose from...

You have my and other's personal Fav's here - and of course you can't go wrong with listing your highest viewed also as they've been proven to be broad favorites.

Maybe do a 'Top Ten' or something mixing highest viewed with those you are most proud of and suggestions here? You could rotate them too...

OK - I have to go now and clean off my nose. ;=)

A POSTSCRIPT to the list I provided above:

Clarification: On my YouTube Hs4Mm page, I favorited the "GTWG XI Q and A", "Quarterback, Scrimmage and Referee" and "Hip Shaking"; however, I do not list ("list" meaning indicate it is a favorite and provide its link at YouTube) any of these here. The reasons for not listing them here is different for each of the videos:

"Hip Shaking" (was favorited because the thumbnail caught my eye): that reason is not that significant.

"GTWG XI Q/A" (favorited because I won it): I associate this video with all the work/struggle I went through to get the answer. I am proud of having been the first to get the right answer. Somehow I am not clear why I do not want to list this as a favorite in the context of this forum topic.

"Quarterback, Scrimmage and Referee" (favorited for a personal reason, for something in the video): At this time, I am not sure if the reason that made this a favorite for me was a valid reason or just me deluding myself. If it was a valid reason, this would be worthy of my listing it here; but it was a delusion, it would not be. And since I do not know which it is, I am not listing it here.

A perennial favorite is the HotForWords lesson on "Antidisestablishmentarianism". Even though many of us use or have used the word, the lesson gets to the heart of the matter where I hung on to every word that Marina spoke.

The "Peeping Tom" lesson, was a barrel of laughs with innuendos, sound effects and a very interesting story behind the origin of the phrase. Very funny and entertaining and educational.

The HotForWords video lesson on "Birds and the Bees" was Marina's debut singing video on July 20, 2008, before the Karaoke video and the Grandfather video, which is also a favorite of mine. I particularly liked this video because the way Marina handled the topic and revealing the most interesting origin of that phrase. Each one of these lessons is a great adventure and in this lesson, Marina seemed to be very maternal in her spirit which was very endearing. I also loved the singing in this video as Marina has a very nice singing voice.

The "Butterfly" video is a guess the word game and in this lesson game, I particularly liked the way she mentioned several concepts such as spoonerisms and with this lesson, Marina opened up the topic for discussion regarding the use of slang or profane words and if it was proper to use these words. It was determined that in the context of these lessons, all words are on the table and in the context of learning, there should be no restrictions.

    By the way, when Marina announced the names of the people making the requests, in one instance, instead of saying the letters out loud, Marina interpreted the letters with a straight face. For the name stfuBuddy, instead of saying;
"es, tee, eff, you, buddy", Marina says, "shut the fuck up buddy" - with a straight face. That made my whole week laughing so hard, and if that was planned, Marina is extremely brilliant. Gotta love that girl.

    A historical note.
About seven months ago, cufan71 started a topic:
    "Favorite HotForWords Lesson"
    http://www.hotforwords.com/forums/topic/favorite-hotforwords-lesson

There was also another similar topic with just two posts.

Marina's request above is very simple requiring no other information as she gave a perfect example.

Captain Jack's video is also a favorite of mine, but it does not answer the question because it is not a lesson and that video was not made by Marina.

Even though articles and interviews are great and I have my favorites, that is not what Marina asked for. Articles and interviews are not video lessons nor where they made by Marina.

Even though Marina did not ask for reasons why a favorite video is chosen, I personally added those comments as historical feedback, which is important to me and which Marina would enjoy knowing about.

I love the way this hotforwords video makes it seem like it was just a walk in the park to do. Smooth, and skillfully executed, and it has just about all of the elements which I find in most of the hotforwords vids that get me laughing. I would also include the hotforwords sandwich video as yet another example

The "AK-47" lesson is an interesting one as Marina uses a different camera angle and the subject matter is quiet different from the usual word origin. I loved the delivery and presentation of this lesson as I hung on to every word of that lesson. Towards the end of the lesson, Marina refers to a "lawn mower", and then she cracks herself up. That alone made my day. That was so funny. I also loved the ending, which you'll have to watch. This was one of those special endearing video lessons.

One of my favorite lessons has always been the one on palindromes
which came out on Dec 26, 2007. I loved Marina reading the words in Greek
and Latin outloud. Then, today, Aug 5, 2009, the lesson on aibohphobia
which is the fear of palindromes, is itself a palindrome. Both of these
    are an excellent lesson pair.

I like the comments with your video selections. It makes it interesting to see why people like certain videos. It gives more insight and dimension to what I might otherwise be missing.

Also, I don't know if you are aware, you can drop the items after the & in the URL including the &.

For example, using the URL above:
    youtube.com/watch?v=q4Ktg5VnenQ&feature=channel_page

    ---remove---> &feature=channel_page

    youtube.com/watch?v=q4Ktg5VnenQ

You can take the video ID, for example: q4Ktg5VnenQ and copy and paste into the YouTube search text box, and that video will be found. In most cases, that will also work in Google search. Past the ID into Google search and the video comes up. I think some rare video IDs starting with a minus sign may not show up.

Dang, you and I think way too much alike. Actually, I started a trivia file here at home and have not published it yet. I've got some doozies. Excellent suggestion. I'll get right on it. After all, I've only watched each video a couple a hundred times. Maybe if Marina would start cranking them out faster, like very hour, maybe I would only be watching them once.

I would gladly trim your URLs next Tuesday, for a hamburger today.
Also, if you know anyone that needs their bushes trimmed,
    I do those as well.
