Sources

People constantly ask me what sources I use for research, and since I use so many different sources, I will attempt to list all of them here.  Keep checking back as I am finding great new resources all the time!

My primary source is the Oxford English Dictionary, which is available online for about $25/mo.

Another great resource is the Online Etymology Dictionary. It is very accurate in that it uses the OED as a source as well as a few of the books I mention below.

Wordorigins.org is another great resource put together by the author of another book that I own Word Myths.

The Facts on File Encycolopedia or Word and Phrase Origins by Robert Hendrickson, a great, to the point book, though you need to double-check some of the origins, as some of them don’t agree with other sources.

Word Origins … and How We Know Them: Etymology for Everyone by Anatoly Liberman
