Birds and the Bees

The birds and the bees.. why the birds and the bees?

I got some dates wrong… Samuel Coleridge lived about 100 years earlier… but his poem didn’t use the actual phrase “birds and the bees”.. the 1939 date I was referring to was actually the first explicit use of the phrase “Birds and the Bees” which was in a Newspaper article at that time.
