Request a Word

comment_bubble

If you have a word request first check this list to see if I have already done the word.

If I haven’t, then go ahead and post a word request as a comment in the latest lesson here on this website. Click the link at the bottom for the latest lesson.

Be sure to put the word or phrase within these brackets [ ] like this:

I would like to request the word [dog] or

the phrase [bigger than a bread box].

That is where I will look for new word requests. You only need to make a word request once as I will search through ALL comments, no matter how far they go back in time!

If you’d like to make a VIDEO request.. make that on YouTube and post it as a response to one of my videos. When I see it I will approve it and grab it :-)

Thank you so much!

I think [Avatar] the movie is being released in December.
Should Marina jump on the “commercial bandwagon” and do a vid on the word? Hell, why not?

how a. phrase [peace of cake]? where did it come?

    …from Russia with love :-)

  3. I’m going to the Cup race in Fort Worth this weekend. First row, center, back straight. Look for me – I’ll be the lone rowdy redneck there(yeah, right.) Hope none of the cars try to join me like the spring Talladega race.

Everybody have a great weekend. Give Cody a squeeze for me, Marina.

  4. Isn’t funny we call computers that run Windows, PCs? PC is short for Personal Computer. I use a Mac. We don’t call them PCs. Though right now macs have lots in common with PCs. They even run very similar chip sets. i.e. Intel dual cores. The only major difference is the operation system. Strange hu.

How about this one. Boyfriend and Girlfriend. The meaning of the words describes your friend with a particular sex. Though the meaning has changed over time. Women can say they are going out with their girlfriend and it doesn’t necessarily mean they are in a homosexual relationship. But if men (at the risk of sounding gay) say they are going out with their boyfriend then there is no doubt that they are homosexual relationship.

So I try to think why this meaning has come about. I think men might have evolved this slang definition to where it is today. Men see two women together and enjoy it. Even when they touch each other. They see them as heterosexuals.
But when men see two men together they think they just might be gay. Anything other than a handshake, pat on the upper back, or a soft punch would seem gay to them.

Something else I have notice for awhile. When did women include themselves as Guys? Whatever happen to Gals?

Well this has confused me so much that all I want to do now is smoke some fags.

Some words roll off the tongue awkwardly, or sound bad, and gal does both. It sounds like someone beginning to vomit. But maybe there’s some sort of antiquated association with the word, gal . To me, gal harkens up a picture of the Andrew Sisters at a dude ranch. When was the last time you heard someone use the word auto ? “Where’d you park your car ?” compared to “Where’d you park your auto ?”

    • Hs4Mm says: 133.2

Historically, when some personal computers were called “PC”s, “PC” was short for “IBM PC” which in turn was short for “IBM Compatible Personal Computer”.

Background: IBM used to make main-frame computers using proprietary technology. They created a special group and gave them the goal of creating a cheap personal computer and getting it to market fast. This group decided to use non-proprietary, “third-part”/”commercial off the shelf” parts in their design. They came up with a set of specifications such parts from any manufacturer who adhered to that specification could be interchanged with each other. Computers built using only those parts that strictly adhered to those specifications were allowed to be labeled as “IBM Compatible Personal Computer” or “IBM PC”. So if someone purchased an “IBM PC” and if a part broke down or if he wanted to expand it, he could do so by using parts from any manufacturer who adhered to the IBM specifications.

In sharp contrast, Apple computers are proprietary. Lots of manufacturers make IBM Compatible Personal Computers (not just IBM!) but only Apple makes Apple computers.

 The [world] is is my word request and this my reason…from Wiki———-
    The word [algorithm]
comes from the name of the 9th century Persian mathematician Muhammad ibn Mūsā al-Khwārizmī whose works introduced Indian numerals and algebraic concepts. He worked in Baghdad at the time when it was the centre of scientific studies and trade. The word algorism originally referred only to the rules of performing arithmetic using Arabic numerals but evolved via European Latin translation of al-Khwarizmi’s name into algorithm by the 18th century. The word evolved to include all definite procedures for solving problems or performing tasks.

  8. I’m showing up on some twitter lists. I’m not really clear, or sold on whether I’ll do this. Most of ya’ll are certainly more active there than I, so maybe that’s part of it. You think it’s all that beneficial? Help a dumbass out.

    • Hi Rick,
As you might know, some people are just obsessed about keeping lists about everything in life. I guess I qualify for that job.
Some people will count or collect stuff that appeals to them. Some people collect autographs and some people count how many times they went to the store this week or whatever.

With respect to Twitter, I guess these lists are similar.
When you go to my twitter profile page, you can click on the Lists and see which ones I have created. I have created 4 Lists for different reasons.

My hotforwords-community List shows the people that are active on this site and also Tweet at or about HotForWords, so you are on that list. For some people that Tweet of or about HotForWords, but have a different username on this site, I can’t count since I don’t know who they are. For example, Leonard on this site is known by another name on Twitter. I count him since I know both of his names.

My hottestpersoninuniverse List only has one name in it AND always will have one name in it. There can ONLY be ONE HotForWords.

The hotforwords-tweeters List contains any tweeter that has tweeted at or about HotForWords. This is just experimental and don’t know where it will go.

The hotforwords-com List is any tweeter that has never tweeted of or about HotForWords. Actually, I don’t know that for a fact, but I presume it might be true. These are people that tweet interesting things that might be related to this HotForWords site such interesting things about words .

Are the lists beneficial? These lists are new and who knows what they might unleash. Maybe, they might be beneficial. I’ve had two people make comments about my lists, so it got someone’s attention.

      • Thanks for your thoughts, PK. I tell you, when I first started tweeting I was much more active. Pretty much all summer I’ve had less recreational computer time for several reasons. Been periods where I wasn’t here as much, too. I think when I am able to spend more time with it it’ll make more sense. Looking at my followers and the folks I follow it’s clear that creating “lists” as such could be hilarious if nothing else. Of course, I AM somewhat warped.

Totally in agreement with your single-person list. Love this lady!

I know the comment number over to the right says 126, but there are 300 comments on this page. The Twitoaster injected comments introduce a different numbering scheme.

  12. Congratulations to PageDoll for being selected as the new T.A.

Click on the link and send Mike some good wishes.

  13. Hey, I’d like to request the word [bangs]. As in the hair along your forehead only when it is short enough. I mean, BANGS? it just seems an odd name to call it and it’d be very interesting to find out why.

  14. flymypg says: 123

I’m worried about the word [to]. While it is one of the smallest English words, it may have more meanings than any other word! Here’s a rather contrived, convoluted, partial example:

To get to the point, I did say to you that I’m going to the store to spend 30 to 40 dollars, but since you are going to hit me, I’ll leave after I come to.”

There are more meanings, but that’s all I could fit in a single clumsy sentence.

How did this tiny word get so many meanings?
How can it serve as so many different parts of speech?
Is it actually a bunch of different words that happen to sound the same and are spelled the same?
Do other languages have massively overloaded words?

Are you the right person to ask, or should I ask my sweet old grammarian?

    Thanks!

    -BobC

OK, ya’ll have sucked me in. (Forgive me, Dear Marina, for I’m about to sin.)

This country, this miracle, was founded by courageous men and women based on Judaeo-Christian beliefs and principles.
          …. [Judeo–Christian] (sometimes written as Judaeo–Christian)

 The term “Judeo-Christian” has been criticized by some theologians[3] for suggesting more commonality than may actually exist.[4]

Historians interested in the foundations of American democracy have written extensively on the importance of the Hebrew Bible as interpreted by the Protestant founding generations. Alexis de Toqueville in his classic 1831 work, Democracy in America, devoted the entire second chapter to this subject.

The immigrants, or, as they deservedly styled themselves, the Pilgrims, belonged to that English sect the austerity of whose principles had acquired for them the name of Puritans. Puritanism was not merely a religious doctrine, but corresponded in many points with the most absolute democratic and republican theories
and so, thus… A [Judaeo-Christian-Muslim] concept thus refers to the three main monotheistic religions, commonly known as the Abrahamic Religions. Formal exchanges between the three religions, modeled on the decades-old Jewish-Christian interfaith dialogue groups, became common in American cities following the 1993 Israeli-Palestinian Oslo accords.…just pushing peace  ;-)

          • leonard, my man, forgive my cranial density, but I really don’t understand the point of your post. I’m familiar with everything you said. Either we’re splitting hairs and you would have preferred my using “Christian” in place of “Judaeo-Christian”, or did you think I was somehow slamming Islam? If so, it was unintentional.

@Beevee14 below (why the heck this didn’t appear in your string I don’t know)

The United States is a melting pot nation with many religious people with different religions. There is no official religion of the U.S., as opposed to Saudi Arabia or Great Britain. Our founding fathers had the wisdom to create a secular government which tolerated all religions, whether Christian, Muslim, Jewish, or any of the rest of them.

    • BigBhd95 says: 101.1

way to go Muggins  thats tellin it like it IS :!: B.B.

    • beevee14 says: 101.2

I agree. You took one paragraph the lady wrote and made your inferrences. Religion has nothing to do with the fact that our president doesn’t have the balls to make a decision about anything.

Last time I looked at a dollar, it said:

      In God We Trust

      right across the top

      • There were many topics in that long letter, and there’s not enough space or attention span to cover all those topics in one comment.

On U.S. currency, It doesn’t say “In Christ we trust”. It says, “…God…”, the God of Abraham I would presume (monotheist), and there are at least three religions, two of them non-Christian who worship one God. The founding fathers did not put that phrase on U.S. currency, nor was there any reference to God on cash until the Civil War. It was in 1956 that the bill was passed that “In God We Trust” would be included on all U.S. currencies. There are enough people in the U.S., who understand that when a government supports one religion over another, it is a form of tyranny, and one has only to look to other nations in the world to see the downsides to liberty that’s caused by mixing politics and religions.

        • Yeah, and they didn’t put ‘under God’ in the Pledge of Allegiance until around that time either,(Those God-less Communists ;-) ) and for that reason kids can’t say the Pledge at school. I am a strong proponent of church/state seperation.

          • OK, ya’ll have sucked me in. (Forgive me, Dear Marina, for I’m about to sin.)

This country, this miracle, was founded by courageous men and women based on Judaeo-Christian beliefs and principles. There is no GENERAL “separation of church and state.” The founders made it explicity clear, however, that no American government would establish a sanctioned church. If you want to learn where the expression “separation of church and state” originated see Thomas Jefferson’s letters.

Look at the buildings, memorials, and monuments in D.C. Get a copy of The Declaration of Independence, or The Bill of Rights. Read-no, study The Constitution. Check out Newt and Callista Gingrich’s “Rediscovering God in America.” I grow so weary of hearing “progressives”, “secularists”, “progressive secularists”, and especially misguided liberal courts attempting to rewrite our history.

I am not a Republican. Not particularly conservative. I’m skeptical of every word that comes out of any politician’s mouth. I just want the truth, that I can verify for myself. And I’m tired of the spin surrounding this issue.

I’m ready for detention now, Marina. Please be gentle.

          • @ originalistrick

I like Newt. He is very intelligent and gives insightful lectures. But, like any other politician I’ve ever heard, when he starts to talk religion, the horse manure gets a little deep. If one does look at the U.S. Constitution, as printed online, you can do a ctrl f word search and enter “god”, and there is no mention of the word. God is mentioned only once in the Declaration of Independence, and it does look like they’re talking about a montheistic God, but they express it oddly as “…Nature’s God…”. There certainly is no mention of Jesus or Christ. The main philosophy driving the creation of the U.S. was the Age of Reason rather than some particular religion.

    April 27, 2009
    The White House
    1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
    Washington, DC 20500

    President Obama:

I have had it with you and your administration, sir . Your conduct on your recent trip overseas has convinced me that you are not an adequate representative of the United States or of me personally.

You are so obsessed with appeasing the Europeans and the Muslim world that you have abdicated the responsibilities of the President of the United States of America . You are responsible to the citizens of the United States

You are not responsible to the peoples of any other country on earth. I personally resent that you go around the world apologizing for the United States telling Europeans that we are arrogant and do not care about their status in the world. Sir , what do you think the First World War and the Second World War were all about if not the consideration of the peoples of Europe? Are you brain dead? What do you think the Marshall Plan was all about?

Do you not understand or know the history of the 20th century? Where do you get off telling a Muslim country that the United States does not consider itself a Christian country? Have you not read the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution of the United States? This country was founded on Judeo-Christian ethics and the principles governing this country, at least until you came along, come directly from this heritage. Do you not under stand this?

Your bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia is an affront to all Americans. Our President does not bow down to anyone, let alone the king of Saudi Arabia . You don’t show Great Britain , our best and one of our oldest allies, the respect they deserve yet you bow down to the king of Saudi Arabia . How dare you, sir ! How dare you!

You can’t find the time to visit the graves of our greatest generation because you don’t want to offend the Germans but make time to visit a mosque in Turkey . You offended our dead and every veteran when you give the Germans more respect than the people who saved the German people from themselves. What’s the matter with you?

I am convinced that you and the members of your administration have the historical and intellectual depth of a mud puddle and should be ashamed of yourselves, all of you. You are so self- righteously offended by the big bankers and the American automobile manufacturers yet do nothing about the real thieves in this situation, M r . Dodd, M r . Frank, Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelic, the Fannie Mae bonuses, and the Freddie Mac bonuses. What do you intend to do about them? Anything? I seriously doubt it.

What about the U.S. House members passing out $9.1 million in bonuses to their staff members — on top of the $2.5 million in automatic pay raises that lawmakers gave themselves? I understand the average House aide got a 17% bonus. I took a 5% cut in my pay to save jobs with my employer .

You haven’t said anything about that. Who authorized that? I surely didn’t! Executives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will be receiving $210 million in bonuses over an eighteen-month period, that’s $45 million more than the AIG bonuses. In fact, Fannie and Freddie executives have already been awarded $51 million; not a bad take. Who authorized that and why haven’t you expressed your outrage at this group who are largely r esponsible for the economic mess we have right now.

I resent that you take me and my fellow citizens as brain-dead and not caring about what you idiots do. We are watching what you are doing and we are getting increasingly fed up with all of you. I also want you to know that I personally find just about everything you do and say to be offensive to every one of my sensibilities. I promise you that I will work tirelessly to see that you do not get a chance to spend two terms dest r oying my beautiful country.

    Sincerely,

    Every Real American

actually this rather infamous email has been exposed as a hoax for some time. the supposed author ms. kathleen lyday has stated she did not write the email. although i am very sure that the opinions conveyed in the email are commonplace and that there are many authentic letters stating as much being sent routinely to the white house. i have read many eloquently stated critiques of the obama administration that are authentic. many of these open letters have been written by some very respected statesmen and political authorities. I think selecting a correspondence from a reputable source would have provided stronger support for your political position.

      • Like they say: if i is to good to be true, it probably is. How could I have fact-checked it, though? Should have called those phone numbers… ;-)

      • It seems from the article scientists have been using dubious means promoting research for hundreds of years.

Does the end justify the means?

As far as the story above, I think it is apples/oranges. No Jews or Gypsies were tortured and killed for Ms. Lidays(or whoever ;-) ) article. At least, I hope not…

    • buzzword says: 100.4

the bit of history i referenced was in response to the quote you provided alone “if it is true what does it matter where it came from?” and not the fictitious email in your original post. my recollection of the ethical dilemma caused by the notorious anatomy book had no bearing upon your initial post. i thought your quote was rather interesting. indeed, you would be correct. comparing the two subjects is like comparing apples and oranges.

i apologize if i have ignored the emphasis you had originally placed upon the email you provided. the political opinions and facts conveyed in the letter didn’t interest me. i did note that you opened with, “the bright light of truth…” and thought i should provide additional factual context to the origin of the email in respect to your prompt by noting its questionable origins. further the email ends with, “sincerely, every real american” i found this final remark slightly unprincipled and rather insulting since the unknown author falsely attributed the words to another unsuspecting individual.

regarding politics in general, i abstain from discussing politics here on hfw for various reasons. mainly because such dialogues quickly digress into an uncivil discourse punctuated by inflammatory trolling, juvenile mockery, exaggerations, half truths and ranting tantrums. none of which respects the civility and eloquence of the democratic tradition of political debate that produces the consensus and progress that a functioning politic requires. for such worthy deliberations i go to political forums that are much more appropriate than the hfw site is.

The Second Book of Enoch (usually abbreviated 2 Enoch, and otherwise variously known as[ Slavonic Enoch or The Secrets of Enoch) is a pseudepigraphic] (a text whose claimed authorship is unfounded) of the Old Testament. It is usually considered to be part of the Apocalyptic literature. Late 1st century CE is the dating often preferred. The text has been preserved in full only in Slavonic, but in 2009 it was announced that Coptic fragments of the book had been identified. Greek is indicated as the language behind the Slavonic version[1]. It is not regarded as scripture by Jews or any Christian group. It was rediscovered and published at the end of 19th century.   The first heaven is found to be the place where the angels control atmospheric phenomena. In the second heaven he finds the prison for the rebel angels. In the third heaven he finds both paradise (as in 2 Cor 12:2) and hell for the men.

  14th-century Novgorodian children were literate enough to send each other letters written on birch barkAlthough Church Slavonic hampered vernacular literatures, it fostered Slavonic literary activity and abetted linguistic independence from external influences. Only the Croatian vernacular literary tradition nearly matches Church Slavonic in age. It began with the Vinodol Codex and continued through the Renaissance until the codifications of Croatian in 1830, though much of the literature between 1300 and 1500 was written in much the same mixture of the vernacular and Church Slavonic as prevailed in Russia and elsewhere. The most important early monument of Croatian literacy is the Baška tablet from the late 11th century. It is a large stone tablet found in the small church of St. Lucy on the Croatian island of Krk, containing text written mostly in Čakavian dialect of in angular Croatian Glagolitic script.

I still say Marina should have her own TV show on a Major network.

    • I agree completely, EXCEPT I fear the network dumbasses would manipulate things, tell her what to do & how to do it (as if they would know better than she), and generally make it a bad experience for her all the way around. If Marina had free rein to do her thing the way we all know she can…that’s different. Imagine if the latter scenario came about – what a blast it could be.

      • Yeah, Rick, I heard about that. No govt entitlement program has cost what they originally said. Like the HC Bill. They could care less about HC. They want control. Another thing, we get taxed now, but Obamacare doesn’t even go into effect until 2013. That is 10 years payment for 7 years of shitty service. What about the 10 years after that? Hopefully, the Blue Dogs will take note of Tuesdays elections and realize they want to keep there jobs!

        Where is the H1N1 vaccine?

How far away from Ft. Hood are you? Terrible.

        • Austin. Just down the road. If only one or more of the “good guys” had been armed. The cowardly bastards always choose a setting in which they’re least likely to face armed resistance. I’m glad the scumbag survived.

          • Yeah, so am I. It appears he had been making noise for awhile about ‘Muslims rising up’. Are we so PC now that we can’t even protect ourselves? I think it is high time people realized(and I think people are) that The Constitution is not a suicide pact. I like what Dennis Miller said one time about the Statue Of Liberty: “It says, ‘Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,…’ and on the reverse side it should say, ‘Unless you want to blow up this statue. Then stay where you are!’ ” I like ol’ Dennis. He tells it like it is.

Still no decision on A-stan, Mr President? Thats alright. You go and get you another 18 holes in. The only decision he seems to be able to make is which golf course to play that day. Do you realize that a shift leader at a fast-food restaurant has more managerial experience than The President of the United States of America? I never, in my wildest dreams, thought that I would be looking back at the Carter years with longing, but this guy is doing it.

New unemployment numbers just came out:

            10.2%

:| Good thing the recession is over :|

      • What took you so long, Texas? ;-)

        • Now behave. I try to stay out of that stuff when I’m here.

          • ;-) I know, I know ;-) . There is the way things are and the way people want things to be and very rarely do the two meet.

I heard that the gunman at Ft. Hood was shouting Allahu Akhbar(God is Great in Arabic-a standard line for suicide bombers) while pulling the trigger. So, 290 days into Mr obamas term, we have our first terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11

White cop doing his job in Massachusets-”acted stupidly”

I ‘almost’ had a similar experience after attending a book signing in LA last month. :???:  (only half a joke)

Thankfully, only my car interior, trunk, under hood, and pockets were searched – no body cavities – and I was released to return home with my books, calendar, and photos after ridiculous interrogation!

You may think I’m kidding – but I was talking on the phone before and after – so I have a remote ‘witness’. You know him.

    Oh! …there was a word lesson here…

I liked it! (the word lesson)

    • In fact, I heard part of the conversation when the officer approached you. That was a really weird and I’m glad that everything worked out.

      • To be honest – I was flagrantly violating the law by talking on a cell phone, although on speaker, which isn’t a violation of the law…

…but it apparently made me look suspicious to them so they circled the block to the parking lot I had pulled into, and noticed my registration tags were expired…which I then learned warranted a near strip search and 10 minutes locked in the back of a squad car! :???:

I know many people in the world would consider this a minor inconvenience – but this is AMERICA dammit! :o

Guess I should feel lucky I didn’t get a Black Eye like Marina in the vid. :???: :?:

LA has changed since I lived there – or maybe I just ran into some goofy, full-of-themselves, young cops? Don’t know…

…but really happy they didn’t take my signed copies of Hot For Words!

    ***Save the Languages!***

Awhile back, these pages ran a link to savethewords.org, a group dedicated to saving “endangered” words by getting people to adopt them into their vocabulary.

Let’s go one better: There are 6,000 languages on earth, half of which may disappear in this century. Is this a problem? In the words of Howard Huws: “…not words alone vanish, but the whole history and experience of a people, their genius and way of seeing the world.”

How about making a hobby of adopting an endangered language? Learn enough to see what makes it unique…then go online, find a native speaker, and practice chatting — and find your own mind opening up to a different way of seeing the world! And keep alive part of our human linguistic heritage!

    • Evan Owen says: 36.1

HFW member KlaxonCow had this to say about the endangered Welsh language:

“Welsh was the British equivalent to the Americans using Navajo during WWII for important communications – because it made the encryption on the messages that much harder to break for the Germans…So don’t mock: because some people spoke Welsh back then, that’s why you’re not currently speaking German!”

leonard recently introduced us to Sami, another endangered language and culture, from the far north of Scandinavia.

In Western Washington, bits and pieces of Chinook jargon still give us place names like Tillicum and Pilchuck and local slang like “right skookum” and “high-ass muckymuck.”

Choose your own endangered language, and become a guardian!

      • leonard says: 36.1.1

I would like to think that languages should be explained: for the reasons of culture and people getting along-([communication]}- as a society it is important….

I have got much to say. Just got a phone call!!…my friend Evan, law is language and do not let the past dictate to pick a bone

…the mystery is not controlling; but let vocation make paths for what is not hidden——-latter  :o  hot words on a straw roof

    • leonard says: 36.2

The temples are stacked…The Æsti, mentioned by Tacitus in his Germania, may have been a people who spoke Old Prussian. Tacitus describes them as being just like the Suebi (a group of Germanic peoples) but with a more Britannic-like (Celtic) language.….I don’t like how Our Great Nation…the USA, has no national lanuage…The regional dialect of Low German spoken in Prussia (or East Prussia), Low Prussian, preserved a number of Baltic Prussian words, such as kurp, from the Old Prussian kurpi, for shoe (in contrast to the standard German Schuh).

The language is called “Old Prussian” to avoid confusion with the German dialects Low Prussian and High Prussian, and the adjective “Prussian”, which also relates to the later German state. The Old Prussian name for the nation, not being Latinized, was Prūsa. This too may be used to delineate the language and the Baltic state from the later German state.

Old Prussian began to be written down in the Latin alphabet in about the 13th century. A small amount of literature in the language survives.

The extinct Old Prussian has living relatives in Lithuanian and Latvian. (Estonian belongs in a different language family, related to Finnish.)

Interesting parallel: the name “Prussia” was adopted by that country’s Germanic conquerors, just as the Celtic name “Britain” was adopted by the English conquerors of the island. (Some claim that “Britain” pre-dates the Celts.)

        • Kaliningrad Oblast
During World War II the Soviet Red Army entered the eastern-most tip of East Prussia on August 29, 1944 near Goldap and Nemmersdorf. Evidence of the massacre committed by the Soviet troops in the East Prussian village of Nemmersdorf spread panic in the province and urged a mass flight westward. However, in spite of this, the Nazis kept East Prussia’s civil population firmly at home by threat of a death-penalty for ‘cowardly deserting’. As evacuation was only allowed at the very last moment, many were unable to escape — overrun by Soviet units or caught at home. They were killed by the Soviet army…[crazy]…good sharing with you Evan

I think both styles (short, hot, commercial and long form) have their place in extending the ability of Marina to expand the infotainment of HFW into various markets of people, companies and schools. For example, you may soon hear from World Class Driving about meeting them in Malibu and doing something on the origin of auto-related words (another level above them is the Spanish Tramontanagroup.com, with whom I may do a series of articles and possible videos). Those would be hot and short attention-span audiences (you know how guys are :-) .

On the level of your “three sheets” video (which I watched again last night) that level of production is suitable for school programs. I met Discovery Channel president John Hendricks and know how passionate he was about “Discovery in the Schools.” That format would meet the interests of the core audience you started with here online and also appeal to someone like Oprah and her educational emphasis on empowering girls and women (ie another book, just for girls around the world in various languages, printed on digital presses like the one in Denver I’m about to work with).

As long as you don’t rob another bank (and get caught) I think you’ll appeal to ‘O’’s audience with BOTH format examples on-air! Aw heck, people will even love you if you’re robbing banks…politely… with Gorby under your arm wearing a raccoon mask! You know how he is around cameras!

Hope you’re happy with the first days in the new place. Those coffee tables you pointed to on Twitter last night were HOT. Ethanol powered tables! Perfect for the post-Apocalypse cocktail party! I’m going to stop by KMart today and see if they have a wire rack for shoes that I can UPS you.
Gotta run. ………big newspaper day today

      • Why did they tell you to shorten them? Or was it just a suggestion? Maybe they think Youtubers videos are crap and wanted to use you as an example to tell Youtubers to shorten their videos? Im confused of their logic.

      • Just another thank you for the older style. ;-)

  103. Hi there. I’m a sort of long-time fan … and my friend was telling me about how someone in his class asked why a unicorn isn’t called a “unihorn.”

So I would like to request the word [unicorn]. Why isn’t it called a “unihorn”? Thanks and love you!

Waht would you get arrested for Dr. Sexy, soliciting a prostitute? The disco rock group Blondie in the 80’s made a song called SEX OFFENDER mocking getting picked up by the cops for soliciting a prostitute. With my luck, if I ever tried to ask q whore for sex, she would end up being an undcover cop!

    • Decades ago, I was waiting for a bus at the station in Boise, Idaho. It was one of those giant, gorgeous buildings from the hey days of the passenger train. While I was sitting there among dozens of other persons, this almost-middle-aged lady cop comes up to me, leans over and quitely mumbles something, trying to solicit me. Since then I have thought of many nifty comebacks:

      1. You know, with that pistola and handcuffs in the bottom of your bag, I’ll bet the guys at the station call you OLD IRON BOTTOM!

      2. If you want to be a success in retail, you should always have FRESH MERCHANDISE!

      3. Hey, lady, YOU’RE NOT WORTH TWENTY BUCKS!

      No guts, no glory.

Homo praesumitur bonus donec probetur malus. It means much more than it says.

Besides every truth stands a lie. And for every lie, there is a truth. In our world, good things happen to bad people, and bad things to good people. All the time. Every day, day after day.

Innocents have been proven guilty by the laws in the past. Have been tortured, deprived of their freedom, beaten, executed. And criminals have been set free by the same laws. It happens right now. And it will happen again tomorrow, and again after tomorrow. If true justice exists, then it has not been discovered yet.

  112. I have to agree. I have seen abused women too many times and it pains me. This should never be faked for any reason.
Such things tend to set off something in me and I become brutal and unforgiving.

Granted at times some women and men do need a swift kick in the ass but there is a difference between a swift kick in the ass and a beating.
